There's the main room in the middle that's the most beautiful one and 2 more on either side of it that are nice, but not as impressive. That being the case, the main room is packed and the only open seating we found was in one of the less pretty rooms off to the side. It's nice that you don't have to go through the entire V&A museum to get access to the cafe, although we did go through a small part of the Buddhist section. I liked that, though, because we still got a taste of the museum. We came around 1 hour to closing, 4pm, so there weren't long lines to get our food. It's cafeteria style and the 2 stalls I saw facing each other were selling the same thing. We got to try scones for the first time which I liked better than the mango & raspberry cake I also ordered which was too sweet. The prices are reasonable. For 2 desserts and 2 drinks between 2 people it came to around $22 total, so around $11 each. Even the bathroom was nice, but I noticed they made the majority of the stalls and sinks available to the public be the more modern ones while the really pretty old fashioned one only had a few stalls. Afterwards, we wandered into the central courtyard and admired the architecture. Overall, it was a good experience. Just don't expect to sit in the really pretty main room, which is why I went there in the first place and I'm sure many other people do, too.

But that does get, uh, old to me soon. Good news is they have lots of other things as well through other artistic styles and eras. There is a restaurant and a cafe, I think. We didn't eat there (went to a Greek restaurant down the street instead - called The Real Greek, if you are interested). They have a couple lovely gift shops with lots of art books and activity books, and a lot of art supplies including some gorgeous rough rag-paper sketchbooks that I am pining for right now, though I do probably have enough other sketchbooks to last the rest of my life, unless I start to draw much faster. I am such a sucker for a good museum gift shop. I did prefer the one on the second floor.

Every room has benches so you can sit down, relax, and actually enjoy the art instead of rushing through. The best part? It's completely FREE to get in. You just walk in and suddenly you're face‑to‑face with pieces by Van Gogh, Monet, Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and a ton of others. You could easily spend hours here and still not see everything. There's just so much to take in -- colors, details, history, all of it. It's the kind of place where you keep saying "okay, just one more room" and then an hour goes by. If you're in London, this is a must‑visit. Beautiful art, relaxed atmosphere, and again... it's FREE. Absolutely worth your time.

I love London's free museums, which make this sort of perfunctory drop-in both easy and practical. Our kids didn't like the Musée d'Orsay, so we didn't have high hopes for the Tate, especially after a long walk from the London Eye. We'd barely gotten them up the escalators and into one of the exhibit halls when they started saying they wanted to leave. We admired what we could of the heavy-hitting collection. We also talked to our children about some of the art, and maybe a trickle of it got through. There was a still life I loved, that turned out to be a Picasso, and a Mondrian painting I'm pretty sure I learned about in first or second grade. Our six-year-old volunteered that he liked a still life of a beer mug by Fernand Léger, and both kids were drawn, just a little, to Warhol's Marilyn Diptych. I hope the boys remember this quick visit, but if not, I certainly will. Maybe I'll bring them back when they're older, and we can give the Tate the time it deserves.

Not a heavy dish but mature and refreshingly different. I decided to have english breakfast tea afterwards and enjoyed it as well. It was good tea but nothing different from the breakfast tea I drink at home in the states. My sister attempted to order milk or cream for coffee and the waitress just didn't understand what she was asking for and said "no we don't have any". It was an interesting confusion after asking for it a few times in disbelief. Lol. My time spent here at breakfast was relaxing.
