Won't be bringing our beloved dog Bailey to Camp Canine anymore. We have been a regular customer for quite sometime but things have changed. This past weekend my dog was acting very agitated and anxious when I picked him up. Complete 180 degree difference from 9a when he was dropped off to 4pm pickup. His tail was down and he was pacing and didn't seem to be walking properly either. I thought I was going to have to bring him to the Emergency vet. He weighs 10 lbs and was in the large dog side. When I asked why they said he was "acting too hyper today." I said excuse me, that's why I bring him here -- to play! He's 5 years old. No one saw anything or wanted to say anything because either someone who works there hurt him in some way or a dog there did. He was very depressed for 2 days but since recovered back to himself. There is also a bigger pool in the big dog side and they never cleared it with me if he could swim in there. The worker said "bailey's been in the big dog side before." I didn't have any knowledge of this prior to this past weekend. Also-- there is NO overnight care person there. So if you board your dog on a Friday -- there is no one who would know if anything wrong with the dogs from 7pm to 9am on Saturday. This is NOT appropriate and they won't tell you proactively there is no one onsite watching the dogs either. They just said to me "well nothing has ever happened overnight so..." Its careless to leave dogs for that long alone. I wouldn't even do that in my own house. The time before this incident I picked my dog up from day care at 3:30pm to find him and 20 other small dogs in the closed Camp Run-a-Muk room while the worker cleaned the splash area. It was 80 degrees and all the dogs were in this hot room. Why don't they clean at 5 or 6p when it's cooler out? I walked in and was like " uhhhh-- where's all the dogs?" It feels unsafe there now. The workers don't seem to have safety in the front of their minds when it comes to the dogs. I don't feel the staff get it. These are our furbabies and our little loves. They deserve better care. My other friends dog had a gaping wound they found the day after being there for 2 days. They didn't say anything. They won't admit to it or just simply have no knowledge because the care-taking is not happening properly. Adios Camp Canine. It's Dioji now for us. I get photos and email updates on my dog at Dioji. My little doggie has been going to Camp Canine since July about 4 times a week and she LOVES IT!!! The Staff / Team members are so exceedingly kind and my doggies butt wiggles all the time in excitement when she sees all team members always. All staff members are very attentive and professional. It's nerve breaking to leave your pet at other people care, but Camp Canine eases my mind whenever I have Lotus boarded overnight there. The facility itself so far is the best in town. It's doggie hotel, spa, and resort. I have only taken my dog there for boarding and day care, I haven't used their training program yet. The Lake Splashmore, which is a play ground for bigger dogs, is spacey, outdoor, full sun with a nice size pool for doggie to go swimming. The staff is so nice to put sun screen on my dog, which is essential for her white coat. When it's night time, they put on sweater or cozy blanket for my dog's goodnight sleep. They handle the situation right when it comes to dog's brawls and fights. The owner is there often, making sure things are going right, which makes me feel a lot better. The staff are super friendly. I call in often to check on my pet situation, they always informatively answer my questions. Camp Canine really helps me with my busy working schedule and I feel a lot better leaving Lotus with them whenever I have to be out of town. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Camp Canine. We were in town and wanted to kennel our dogs for the day. Even though there was a miscommunication and some issues with the vaccination history of one of our dogs, they nevertheless accommodated us allowing us to enjoy our day. Unfortunately due to the vaccination issue our dogs could not be around the other dogs and needed to be kept separate. They dealt with us in a very kind manner even though we were more than a little stressed out. They could have just as easily not been kind. I got a kinda fancy puppy. She is a Lagotto Romagnolo. She looks a lot like a doodle. She needs to be groomed. I was informed that she requires careful grooming. Indeed, I saw one that had been improperly groomed. Not a good look plus he didn't have enough fur to protect him from the sun. I did research online and found information on the various grooming styles. I contacted Canine Camp and spoke to the owner, Mary. She followed the recommended grooming method and the style I wanted. She even checked with me while she was grooming my dog and sent me pictures. No groomer had ever done that before. When I went to pick her, she looked perfect and was very happy. The price is very fair. I already have an appointment for her next grooming. I highly recommend Camp Canine. They do a great job and they are very nice. read more

My dog has stayed at MANY daycares and kennels throughout CA and other states as well, and this is by far the BEST place he has ever stayed. I wish we lived in Santa Barbara so that this could be his regular "home" daycare! The spot is so adorable from the second you pull up. It looks like a real camp and they have cute signs everywhere enhancing that feel. Inside is a great shop with the cutest of pet accessories, great food and treats, etc. It does not at all smell or look like a typical pet store. The personnel are friendly and knowledgeable. There is a little deck where you can watch your pet from across the way. It's a super cute indoor/outdoor area where they are free to roam about and play. At night they can sleep in the living room (together) or in a kennel (private). It's a great environment and they are well supervised. I felt great leaving my little Yorkie there! I knew he was having a lot of fun. We boarded him there for 2 nights and it was slightly pricier than places we usually board him (it was $65/night and we usually pay about $50-55/night) but it was definitely worth it for the great environment and care. They even provided his food! When we picked him up 2 days later, our little guy was super happy! We saw him from the deck before the camp counselor announcement for his departure came on the loudspeaker, and his little tail was up and wagging. He can sometimes seem a little frazzled when we pick him up after boarding him, and that was not the case here -- he wanted to stay! Literally when we were leaving the camp, he was pulling on his leash to go back in. He had a blast! I can't recommend this place highly enough. I can't wait to come back to this area because we love to spend time in Santa Barbara and now we've found a great place where our pooch loves to spend time too. read more

Doggie stayed for 5 nights over New Year's week. We were renting a no-dog house, so we checked her in for nights and checked her out during the days for some play time/beach time/hike time. We quickly realized that staying at sleep-away camp means you're basically playing all the time - so when we picked her up, we still took her to the beach and the trails etc. - but then let her sleep on a blanket LOL. The first couple of days they just weren't too familiar with her...but by day 3 they definitely had learned her personality and were able to tell me things ("she's definitely got a little separation anxiety when you leave"..."she's so great with all the dogs and loves to play"..."she likes to take her time to eat her food so we stand there with her while she eats so she's comfortable"....and finally "she's so cute - you're so lucky she's a great dog." And these comments were all from different caretakers...I do feel like they're really really busy and it takes a little while for them to get to know your pup...but after hearing their comments I knew that they had learned her because they were accurate to what we know about her. It is expensive...but food is included and it's the same type we use so that was good. The location was perfect for our wanderings around SB. There are rocks to run around and up and down and a "lake" etc. - all really great things for our dog. I like that there's outdoor space and indoor space and it's all extremely protected. I wouldn't hesitate to bring her here again. read more

Our dog is a house dog and seems to think she is human so I was leary of putting her in any dog daycare but we really wanted to go to the zoo and go to other places that weren't pet friendly. They totally accommodated us. She was there half day and it was very reasonable. They took care of her like we would and even gave me a report card when we picked her up. I took my corgi, Blossom to Camp Canine for the first time today, as its Memorial Day weekend, and my boyfriend and I wanted to spend the day out of town at the beach. Blossom has never stayed at a doggie day care before, and she seemed a little nervous at first going in. The staff is very friendly, welcoming, and the place is super clean and inviting (its set up like an actual camp!). A trainer took her out to meet the other dogs outside, and within no time, Blossom was running around and having fun. When we came to pick her up, she was having so much fun, she didn't want to leave! On top of that we went to pay for her stay, and they let us go FREE OF CHARGE for just trying them out! We boarded our dog here for a solid week. The positives: 1. I think this place is fine for day care and we had an OK experience with that service, 2. Their online reservation system is good and convenient, 3. The space and set up they have is great when there aren't too many dogs crammed in. What we didn't like and why we won't be back: 1. The team working there seemed overwhelmed every time we came in and/or called. It feels like there are far too many dogs relative to the number of people and we are worried that the issues we experienced are a result of that. 2. We picked up our dog at just before 10am on her last day to find that she was covered in her feces because she apparently had an accident in her crate. This has NEVER happened at home and we had to wonder why she was still in her crate at almost 10am? And why didn't anyone notice that she needed to get out? They did their best to clean her and our crate up, but we still ended up at home with a lot of clean up to do and concerns about her care. 3. Its tough to get much of an update on your dog unless you are very proactive and persistent about checking in. And you have to be ok with looking past the overwhelmed feeling from the team working there. 4. Our dog came home with a big bleeding scab on her nose, again something we've never seen before- and made us worry about how she got it. In closing, this place seems like it could be awesome if the person to dog ratio was more reasonable. I'd go back if I knew they capped the ratio to ensure they aren't overwhelmed and dogs are crammed into the play area (or locked in their crates during the day with no check in at all). read more

Picked up my dog. Camp canine said nothing but upon going home we noticed a big scratch and redness all under his belly. It's apparent no one was supervising them. Never going back. Would not recommend to leave your loved pet at this place. Also questionably sanitary and pretty shotty looking. I understand these things happen but at lease be forthcoming and upright and let us know what happened so that we can treat wound and not find out about it later. Never again. read more

Camp Canine was great! We used their doggie daycare services while traveling through Santa Barbara with our aussie. He is intact and it is always tough to find daycare places that can accommodate intact dogs. They have several different sections - one for smaller dogs another for larger dogs and some more private areas for more shy or apprehensive dogs. The online booking was very convenient and the staff were very friendly and professional. We would definitely use them when we find ourselves in the area again. read more

Unfortunately will never bring my dog there again. I traveled 300 miles and arrived 20 min before closing. Asked if they could feed my dog as she hadn't had food as we left home very early and mentioned that she eats around 8 am so please feed her in the next morning. All I know is that upon checking her backpack, all the food I packed for her was still in there!! I phoned Jill who by the way is very warm and sweet, and she insisted Zoey was fed 1/2 can of food and since she was being picked up at 1 pm they decided not to feed her! If she did eat, it wasn't the food I brought, which is prescription due to food allergies or my instructions on how to feed her. I spend $155 for one night (including tip) to receive my dog hungry oh and she's so hoarse she can't even bark!!! read more

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Camp Canine. I had called previously to ensure exactly what to expect. However, I dropped off my toy poodle for grooming and was assured that I would be called ASAP After the grooming had been completed. They did not call and when I called 4hrs later and asked how he was they reassured me that he was happy and playing all day. When I asked was the grooming completed they stayed "which one was your dog?". Picked up my poodle and he was terrified, shaking uncontrollably and they did an awful job grooming. The grooming was uneven and didn't even bother to groom the ears or feet at all. On top of that, they attempted to charge me $25 more than the cost I was quoted. I won't be returning. read more

We left our girl at Camp Canine for a weekend while we were in town for a wedding. It was her first time being boarded, so we were a bit nervous about leaving her. Camp Canine is clean, nice and seemed like a safe place for our pup. We didn't receive the "doggy report card" that many reviewers have written about, which would have been really nice and was actually something I had looked forward to. You spend the weekend away, wondering if she played or just whined- it would be nice to have some feedback after the fact. Also- I don't think anyone introduced themselves at all, and took our dog back really quickly without announcing that was happening. I know this is what they do all day, every day, but especially for a first timer, it would be really nice to have a little more explanation of what goes on- I wonder if she swam? Or how much time they spent outside? Did she get along with other dogs? Overall, it really does seem like a wonderful spot and I felt like my pup was well taken care of. It just would've been great to have a little more info, both before leaving to put our minds at ease and at pick-up to know how it went. Just picked up my puppy. This was his first time at a dog daycare and I got him back with a big gash on his nose. Voiced my concern and they tried to say it's looks scabbed like he had it before he got there. NO. I look at his face every hour of the day and HE DID NOT HAVE A BIG GASH ON HIS NOSE. "Oh hold on let me call the manager... He was playing with other dogs too aggressively and next time we'll have to put him in with the big dogs." Oh really? We have another dog, they play all the time and don't go for blood! Isn't there someone in there watching the dogs? At what point do they break it up?? VERY INSENSITIVE staff, just pointed me to the contract and "yeah it happens." WHY DOES HIS REPORT SAY EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND DANDY?? Because these people are liars. Never coming here again! The only reason we brought him here is because it's my sons birthday and he wanted to go the museum (we came in from out of town), dogs aren't allowed so I put my trust in this place. My wife and I were on glamping vacation in Santa Barbara and had our 5 year old Rottie with us, Lola. We were going to the SB Zoo for the day and needed a place for Lola to hang out while we look at other animals. Lola has never been to anything like this and we are very particular when it comes to our girl so we started our search and found Camp Canine on Yelp. The reviews were amazing compared to the rest of them so we headed out. When we arrived we were greeted by a wonderful young lady who wanted to pet Lola and paid plenty of attention to her. Right off the bat we were feeling good about this place. They took Lola to the big dog area and we watched her from the tower. At first she only paid attention to us and she was very nervous. The guy in pen told us that their is always someone in the pen at all times which made us feel even that more comfortable. We left, spent our day the the pool and around 6 headed back to Camp Canine. We were greeted by another women who gave us a report card with Lola's picture of her playing in the water, she loves the water. She had also made a few friends that she played with the entire day. This place is unbelievable and I would recommend it to anyone! I had to say something about this persons review. See Below... Her dog was more than likely scared and or trying to escape and they did the right thing by putting it in a crate or what ever it was. Were were on a short get-away to Santa Barbara with our 1 year old Golden Retriever. After spending a day doing dog stuff (Tucker's Grove dog park, Hendry's Beach, etc.) we needed a dog-free day to enjoy some wine tasting and shopping around town so we dropped our pup off at Camp Canine. This place was great! We loved the camp theme. Everything seemed clean and the staff was very friendly. At pick up we got a report card and picture of our dog - a great touch! They also have an excellent store if you need to pick up some quality food/treats/toys/whatever and grooming is available. Prices seemed on par with what we're used to paying throughout Southern California for this level of quality. At the end of the day we had a happy, healthy, and tired pup. We would come here all the time if we lived in the area. read more

Been there yesterday, as I was in town for some fun in Santa Barbara. I decided to leave my four pound chi , somewhere it would be safe and did my little research. Once we walked into the camp, we were nicely welcomed by the caretakers, who quickly fixed any paperwork needed and took my little baby with the rest of the doggies. They were all so kind and he was able to freely roam and play with other dogs instead of being in a cage. Also they were nice to allow me to be 15 minutes late, after closing time which I really appreciate! thank you for everything! he will definitely love to come back again :) read more

Update: I was really impressed with the service and care i received after i let the office know that my puppy (six month old large breed) came home one night after the pool and a couple days of daycare, lethargic, diarrhea, tenderness in her stomach and just overall blech! They paid for all the vet bills which uncovered some parasites which were promptly eradicated. Pup is doing great and would just caution owners of younger dogs that there systems are not fully immune so giardia and other parasites that most adult dogs are immune to just isnt the same for pups. I was also told that they CC pride themselves on cleanliness and that all areas had been clean to the highest standards. Well done Camp Canine! read more

My fiance and I recently took our rescue dog, Slinky, to the Camp Canine Training Center. We adopted Slinky in mid-March from the local County Animal Shelter, and we knew that we wanted him to live peacefully with our two cats, learn basic commands, and feel comfortable meeting new people and dogs. Enter the Camp Canine Training Center, which is affiliated with Camp Canine and housed in the cottage next door. MaryAnn LaScalla is the point person for their 'Doggy Day School' or 'Puppy Magic Training' program. Her brother, Anthony Sorosky, works alongside her. He runs the 'Coffee Shop Dog' training, and calls himself the 'Montecito Dog Trainer'. I believe their brother John Sorosky and his wife Mary opened the original Camp Canine doggie daycare and boarding facility. Confused yet? ;) We signed up for the 7 day, full-day (8am-5pm) Doggy Day School program at the cost of $595. The classes are spread over 3 weeks- 3 days the first week (Tues-Thurs), 2 days the next week, then 2 days the following week. Our first goal was to work on Slinky's confidence and socialization until he felt comfortable in new situations, then to work on impulse control and learning new behaviors. They favor positive reinforcement, however Anthony did sometimes use negative reinforcement (ie. pinching the thin part of skin at the top of our dogs rear legs to get him to stop a behavior) in front of me. Our largest issue was lack of communication. I am not sure if we were an anomaly or not, however we did not get much info when we went to pick him up in the evenings, or in the days between training. During the first week, he learned to 'leave it', then during the second week, they taught him to balance on a ball. After I heard about this, I made multiple efforts to get in touch and find out what the heck was going on there. I also wanted to know if they could work on the 'off' command since Slinky likes to jump up on us when he's excited. I did hear back from MaryAnn, and she explained that our dog did not have issues with lack of confidence- rather, they learned that he was cautious due to his prior history of being a street dog. So working on balancing on a ball was a way to give him a new task and see that it's okay for him to do new things for people. I suppose that make sense when she explained it, however I still found it unusual. I was then told that for the 'off' command, they wanted us to hire Anthony to come out to our home for additional training at $175/hour. I was disappointed to hear that, as I had considered this a basic command that he would learn here. Another issue was timeliness with Anthony, and miscommunication with the main office at Camp Canine. We were told that we could drop our dog off as early as 7-8am. However, we were not told that our dog would be placed in a crate during that time. When the main office at Camp Canine mistakenly told us to put our dog in the crate outside the Training Center early one morning- and Slinky refused to get in the crate- we agreed to pay up to $30/hour for him to go to the daycare with Camp Canine until MaryAnn showed up. As it turns out, the main office is supposed to take our dog around back then place him in the crate for the early drop-off's. We wish that we had known he would go into a crate when he is dropped off early. Also, one day I showed up just before 5PM to pick up Slinky. However, Anthony had a group of dogs out on a trip to a nearby park. I had to wait until 5:30PM for him to return so I could get my dog back. During this pick-up, I also saw Anthony lightly bite Slinky's ear. I ask what biting my dogs ear was about, as it was unusual and weird to me. I think he said it's a way that dogs communicate being playful or buddies. Anyways, on our last week of training- after I had communicated my concerns about what he was spending his first two weeks on- I found out during drop-off one morning that he was learning some basic commands such as sit and come. Ay ay ay. Overall, I would not recommend the training program to a friend or family member. There were too many hiccups for us, and I think that they can be a bit unconventional/weird at times. However, I am giving them 3 stars since there were some positive things we got out of the program: 1) Knowing that he can successfully socialize with other dogs, 2) Learning from MaryAnn that his issue was not lack of confidence, but being cautious due to his past living on the street, and 3) Seeing Slinky become more comfortable in new situations now. read more

Camp Canine is like a second family to us. We adopted/rescued our girl a couple of years ago, and with her being an older bigger bully breed, we knew we wanted to get her additional training. We have used their day school training classes and their group classes. The training is great and practical, and the all of the staff/trainers are knowledgeable and wonderful with the dogs. Living downtown, we take her everywhere and love to travel with her too, always knowing she will be an ambassador for her breed. And if we have to travel without her, we board her with Camp Canine as well. Our dog has been an absolutely perfect addition to our life, and Camp Canine has played a big part in that. read more

Made an appointment or at least that's what Maryland had me believe for a Saturday morning. As long as I could have the vaccine records faxed from the Vet, she assured me they would groom my German Shepherd no problem. Showed up ... the place was crawling with dogs but no appointment. Apparently one has to fill out paperwork, have vaccine records before you can schedule a grooming. Name change to Camp Shite Show might be appropriate. It's more Pet Boarding than grooming hence the vaccine records which aren't normally required at pet groomers. So many other groomers in town...STAY AWAY from CAMP BEDLAM!! read more

This place is wonderful. We were in town for some R&R with our pup. We wanted to golf and didn't want to leave our pup in the hotel. They greeted her with open arms and gave us a free trial. When we returned from golf she was excited to see us and exhausted from all the fun with the other dogs. She received a certificate with photo and we will be back! read more

I take my cocker spaniel here to be groomed. When she comes out, she is always happy, healthy, and ready to play. She is persnickety about groomers. She even growls and snaps at them. She likes everyone at the spa. That's good enough for me. They do a great job. Can't recommend them enough. read more

The play yard for the bigger dogs (where my dogs play) is fantastically made up with rocks to climb and sun on, as well as has astroturf for the pups to run and play on. My dogs favorite aspect of Camp is the two swimming areas - there is a pond with a waterfall, as well as a swimming pool - my dogs go crazy for all the fun activities that are provided to them! Not only do my dogs always come home happy and exhausted from Camp, but they come home smelling and looking great after their pampering in the Spa is completed. I LOVE IT! Camp Canine cared for our boys Eddie and Frankie when they were just pups! We brought Ed and Frank in for Puppy School and quickly learned that WE were also being trained! As owners, we love our dogs just as we do our human family but learned that we needed to communicate with them differently in order to get the behaviors we wanted. Camp Canine taught us useful tricks and tools useable in every stage of dog-hood, in an easy to understand and FUN manner. We greatly looked forward to our classes because it was a great time. We saw couples, families, individuals, young and old alike, all communicated better with their dogs after just one session. We learned how to communicate with our dogs effectively and now, nearly 4 years later, are still using the tools we learned in Puppy School to help our dogs behave well and thrive in all environments. We have a very unsocial boxer and have had trouble boarding her before but not with camp canine. They've helped us train her with basic commands and they've been great with boarding her. They take the proper precautions to make sure she and the other dogs are all safe AND make sure she gets out and it's stuck in a crate all day and loved on. I'm very appreciative for them! read more
