The staff is amazing, always friendly, ready to accommodate, and honestly, you don't have to take it from any humans, take it from our doggy friends: as soon as I park next to Camp Canine, I cease to exist for my two little monsters. They are so excited to go. Even when I just drive by, they get excited, and then get sad when I don't stop. I recommended them to many other dog owners, and they had the same results, and now are regularly dropping their dogs. If you want your best friend to be well looked after, this is THE place. I don't know if my tiny dog was stressed out about her first time at doggy daycare, but I sure was! The staff here made it really easy drop her off and enjoy my no-dogs-allowed outing I had planned. Dogs staying here MUST have a bordatella vaccine. Mine did not, but they helped me take care of that on the spot. When I picked Squeaky up that afternoon she was in the lap of one of the handlers being doted on. Everyone had a great day! read more

I am extremely disgusted by the lack of concern, care and effort put in by the staff of camp canine. I am sad to say after years of boarding my dogs here I will NEVER be returning. My smaller dog, a basenji, we have picked up with huge cuts on his front and back legs. Recently we've picked up our older lab, with gashes on her face and nose, and most recently we took her in for a skunk bath and picked her up gushing blood from her back paw. She continued bleeding for hours, and camp canines response to our concerned calls was indifference and quite frankly, rudeness. Upon touring the facilities, you will see lots of dogs running rampant. It looks fun upon first glance, until you take a closer look and realize there is a blatant lack of supervision by the staff. The number of dogs per employee is absurd, and makes it impossible for them to properly for your loved animals. If you value your dogs well being, health, and safety, do not take your pet here!!!!!!!!! I would give zero stars if I could. I've he UPDATE: I am nearly speechless at the response I have received from staff at camp canine due to my negative yelp review. We received no responses or apologies when we called sharing how upset we were that our dog was hurt under their care, although once I publicly voiced my opinions the staff reached out numerous times via texts and calls. Had the staff been considerate of our original calls, I would have never turned to yelp. I am hopeful that the staffs words were true, and they do genuinely care about the care of people's beloved pets. Although, I am quite disappointed with the situation and staffs reactions. I am thankful for an apology, but I wish it wasn't under negative, questionable, self serving intentions. read more

Thank you, Camp Canine! Camp Canine was able to watch my two mini poodles (Oscar & Felix) last minute during the Ventura Thomas Fire. The day before I was scheduled​ to leave town I learned our regular daycare in Ventura was being evacuated, so I had to find a new overnight daycare ASAP. Camp Canine came through for me, even though my dogs had never been there before. I even had to call/email to arrange for someone other than myself to pick my dogs up, and Camp Canine was very accommodating. My dogs seem tired and happy which is a sign they had a great time. These guys are the best! They rescued my dog several years ago and he lived there for a few months before I took him home (he was even adopted out once and brought back to them). Now we go back for daycare and he gets SO excited when we turn on Milpas and he realizes where he's going. I think it's such a testament to them that he lived there before he had a forever home and still loves going back so much. Plus he's always exhausted when he comes home. I dropped my dog off for a simple grooming and HE NEARLY DIED from a medication overdose. The medication was meant for a dog more than twice the size of my dog left unattended on a counter. The dogs were not properly supervised, my dog ate the medication, and I was not notified of what happened until SEVERAL hours later. It has been several days and my dog is barely now walking normally again, his sight is mostly restored, but he is suffering from chronic diarrhea as a result of an infection contracted on the same day. Only take your dog to Camp Canine if you hate your dog or love vet bills. read more

When I travel, this is the only place I take my dog Arnie. They are so good with him and he seriously loves it here! He always comes back so well behaved and they give him the best haircuts too! They are so personable as well, and make me feel so comfortable knowing he is in amazing care with the camp counselors! I am very sorry to say I will no longer bring my dogs here. We have been taking our dogs to Camp Canine for 20 plus years, but on our 2 recent visits I have picked up my older lab with injuries. The time before last she came home with a big gash on her snout, for which I was not given any explanation. Today - I picked her up from being groomed, and she was bleeding from her back paw. I was told they had cut her nail too short. Her paw has continued to bleed for 10 hours. I am really not sure how taking her for a bath to be deskunked led to this. I never even asked for her nails to be trimmed today! My husband and I called to complain and were told this is just what happens on both issues! This is an unacceptable response! I have been a huge fan of Camp Canine, but I am done after today! As the steward of my dogs, it is too hard to witness them in unnecessary pain - that I am paying for! It seems irresponsible and uncaring to me. The problem seems to be too many dogs, and not enough staff. The only recourse I have is to help others make informed decisions about whom to entrust to care for their dogs! We are lucky to have other options for dog care in our community! read more

This place is really cool...a place for water dogs to swim (supervised and only open part of the day); interesting landscape so they can run, jump and play. Small dogs in one section, larger dogs in another. Right in town, it is surprising that this is an outdoor facility, which is so nice for the dogs. They can lay in the sun when they choose. The negative is trying to reach the office by phone or website email. They do not respond right away...must wait up to 1-2 days. We were desperate for a place to take our two dogs for doggie daycare and took a chance, stopping by with them. The staff was friendly and happy to evaluate our dogs and let them stay without notice. We are in town only for a week but we have found a fun place to take our dogs while we visit Santa Barbara. No discount for two dogs for daycare. read more

I brought my dog Cotton here last week while on vacation and have only positive things to say! The staff is so warm and welcoming and I immediately felt comfortable leaving my dog there. My dog is very anxious and was nervous coming into a new facility but the staff did a wonderful job making him feel at home. I got to observe him playing and having fun with other pups and he left exhausted each day. In addition, for a small price they offer a bath after a day of play and they went above and beyond! I wish there was a Camp Canine where we live but I look forward to bringing my pup back during upcoming vacations!! read more

If only there there was a zero rating... we have been very loyal Camp Canine customers for 15 years for both boarding and training-until now. While on our way to the airport to my husband's mom's funeral, Echo called to tell me that I had to pick up one of our dogs immediately because her kennel cough was too severe even I told them about her cough when we dropped her off and I gave them her antibiotics and cough suppressant meds. I completely respect and understand the need to keep all other dogs healthy, but when I told them she had actually contracted it at their facility the week before and that our female had previously contracted kennel cough there on at least three occasions and that we had even complained about it before, they more or less called me a liar. I asked what I was supposed to do as I was about to board a plane to the east coast. Though this could not possibly be the first time they have encountered a dog with kennel cough in 20+ years, they refused to even offer to help us find another facility that might be able to take our dog, and demanded we immediately pick her up. We called several friends, five pet hospitals, two animal shelters, three dog walkers and four boarding facilities and finally AVS agreed to take her. Another vet office actually told us they would never recommend Camp Canine due to the number of dogs they see for kennel cough after staying there. The final straw? They dumped our second dog at AVS too claiming he was coughing--he had not coughed once before we left him and both dogs have had all their vaccinations. They did not even have the respect to tell us directly but had AVS notify us instead. Wow! Does not get much worse. read more

We left our dog there and paid for her to play outside and play in the pool ( wired enough you have to pay extra for that ). When we left our dog climbed up ext to the waterfall and I expressed my concern because I watched her and the lady who was in the yard with the dogs did not call her back or paid any attention - the roof of the house is next to the waterfall so she could have easily jumped over there! We told them that she prob was just nervous and they promised to keep a closer eye on her. The next day when we came back they told us that she was sitting in a small kennel the whole time - after we left they put her right in and just let her out to go pee!!! We let them know that we were upset about it since we wanted her to have a good time and they did not really care and just said that once they put a dog in the kennel they usually stay in there!!! On top of all they still charged us the higher rate - where she would have been outside!! It was also quite worry some because our dog is a boston terrier and they tend to overheat - so it is important for them to get out and cool off.. When we got her back she also drank an unusual amount of water what makes me think she didn't even have a water bowl in her kennel and her food we gave them was untouched - so no dinner either!!! I was very disappointed on how they treat dogs and there service!!!! read more

I have to say, my relationship with my dog has completely changed after he started doggy day care at camp canine. I bought my pup on a totally irresponsible whim in Milan where I fell in love at first sight. And then, for the first time, I became a dog owner with no previous training and certainly not a puppy owner appropriate life style. So, for the last several months, even though I love him to death, sometimes it's a little frustrating to - find my chewed up panties everywhere, not be able to take that spontaneous trip to wherever, getting a breakout because after I fell asleep my puppy decided to sleep on top of my head.. Well, doggy day care at camp canine rocks because it takes the part about having a puppy that can be tough out. Here are the reasons why camp canine rocks: 1. my dog loves to go there and loves to play with the other dogs (any my dog has major separation anxiety, so its great to see him excited to spend time somewhere that I'm not at) 2. I don't have to worry about him being at home all day - barking, scratching, being anxious - while I am at work 3. sometimes when I come in to get him he is snuggled into one of the laps of a person who works there which makes me feel he is getting lotsa love 4. They have a 'concierge' who sits outside, and while he is not always there when I drive up, when he is, he now knows my car and goes directly to get my dog and bring him to me - puppy delivered to car! I don't even have to get out. 5. if requested they will bathe the pup before I come so he is all fresh and clean for me (at extra charge of course). 6. if I am stuck working late and can't pick him up before closing, they will deliver the pup to my abode. 7.after playing with the other dogs all day my dog is exhausted when we get home and consequently just snuggles with me which is how I like him most! 8. I don't have to worry about taking him out all the time because I know he's gotten plenty of exercise all day my only gripes - I wish they were open later than 6 during the work week, it's really damn expensive, sometimes my pup is a little dirty and wet when I pick him up.. BUT all in all, I love this place, and it has made my life with my dog 100 times better! If you work a lot,, have a pup and have the money to spend, I highly recommend camp canine! read more

We left our dog here for two nights and almost a whole third day. When I picked him up I asked how he did and got a "um, I think he did fine"-- no updates or report card like they do at other places, even though he stayed almost three days. I don't need a report card but I would like a personalized update. They also had to call an off duty staff worker to see if he had been fed dinner (at 6:30 the answer was no)-- plus they never gave him his dental treats I sent along with him. He seemed really out of it for the first hour and a half we had him- I am sure he was tired but not in the way he has been at other places. He didn't really interact with us at first. It was also really expensive. I am not one to leave negative reviews but I don't think we'd go back. read more

Our 8 month old Golden Retriever had an overnight stay at Canine Camp. We know he had a great time because he was exhausted when he came home! He loved playing in the pool! My only concern is about their food policy. Being a puppy, he's never eaten anything other than his puppy kibble. When he got home he had a terrible case of "The Runs". He even had to get up in the middle of the night. I wish they would give you the option to bring your own food. read more

We took our 3 dogs to Camp Canine for 14 days of training and boarding. We had never done that before and didn't really know what to expect, but hoping for the best! Well Maryanne, the Manager and John, the trainer are fantastic! They took such good care of our puppies and they came back WAY better on the leash than ever before, such a relief to go for a walk with 3 obedient dogs rather than hoping we didn't see any dogs, trucks, skateboards...you get the idea! We got a video of our dogs and reports on how they were doing. They had a BLAST and we are thrilled they had so much fun, and learned a lot too. Worth every penny we spent! The place is a paradise for dogs and looks just like a real camp -- but for dogs! Have no fear, bring your dogs here! You won't be disappointed! read more

The place has high turnover of staff, but you've got to expect that... watching dogs isn't exactly a career. That probably leads to some inconsistency, but we've brought our dog there 50-100 times over the last five years. There have been times our dog had small spots she'd picked at on her legs, self-inflicted injuries we knew did not happen on Camp Canine's watch, but at least once -- I think twice -- staffers pointed out the injury at the end of the day to make sure we were aware. Do not take other reviews here as gospel about the supposed negligence or lack of care. Most employees I've seen at Camp Canine love dogs and try very hard to make sure they are healthy and happy. read more

going to camp once a week has changed my rescue rottie completely. Shes perfectly behaved on the beach off leash with any people or dogs, never a problem. Because shes a rescue from a very rough past she is very scared and apprehensive. Going to camp has given her a safe environment to learn to play & that the world is ok. She has sever separation anxiety but when I pull up to camp canine she wiggles all over and runs to the door. It is the only time she will leave my side willingly, its just a warm fuzzy place and I'm so grateful for what they've done for my girl. read more

I recently just started taking my 3 dogs to Camp Canine. I don't know who likes it more, the dogs or me! They have done an incredible job at turning the facilities into a "Frontierland" (yes, as in Disneyland), like feeling. With giant rocks for the dogs to jump off, waterfalls and pools to cool down in; my dogs love this place! The staff is also VERY friendly and accomodating. Unlike other dog camps I've taken my dogs to, they always have had space and never turned us away; due to their large facitily. My dogs always come back tired and happy! We dropped our dog here today for his first ever time at a doggie daycare while we're visiting Santa Barbara. The process was so easy - I called to check about about availability this morning because we didn't want to leave him alone at our hotel all day and less than an hour later we were dropping him off for a day of fun! Not only that but they offered a free trial daycare to be sure he did ok there. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. We knew he was in good hands here. When I dropped our dog off there it seemed like a cute place for him to go to camp. It is VERY themed and really cute. But when we picked him up he was kinda sad. At the other place we take him he is usually very upbeat when we pick him up. And we only take him there 1-2 times a year. We thought he was just tired. 5 days later he came down with Kennel cough even though he is fully vaccinated. He has been pretty sad and lethargic for a week. For being such a pricey place I would expect it to go better. He did get a cute report card. But his other place is half the price, and he comes home happy and healthy. read more

A real pleasant surprise in downtown SB. Cool vibe, clearly lovers of all pets, reasonably priced and good services.
