We got here on Sunday and had three cars with stuff knowing we could only have two at the campsite. They made it a big deal to have third car drop off items so my daughter had to give them her phone as a deposit to make sure she came backed and parked her car in the visors lot. Then the pool had the deep end blocked off saying it was to green and you can't see the bottom however the shallow end which is the same pool was okay. They just didn't have a second lifeguard and instead thought it better to lie. The lake that everyone goes to had been shut down do to how amazingly gross it was with e-coli. So no pool and no lake in 90 plus weather. Mon-Wed the pool was open but still no lake and then the wildfire smoke came in and they shut everything down on Thursday which is s somewhat understandable but I don't have health issues and I once had nothing to do. Now we are on Friday and air is fine and sunny and once nothing is open so no pool, no lake,no putt putt and no paddle boats due to not having staff. Absolutely unacceptable when they the are charging us $800 for the week to just stay at our tents or go spend a butt load of money on food and other things to do in the local towns. My girlfriends family has been coming here for decades and they may have just lost us forever coming back. read more

This was not the experience I was hoping to have. Bathrooms and showers were filthy and moldy. When I arrived at the rustic cabin, there was a group of people partying there and had made a mess. No one cleaned it up. The cabin was okay. However, the wasps were horrible. The shed fridge and stove were horrible and didn't work more than 50%. Firewood and ice were insanely overpriced. We tried to get the primitive camping for 2 nights. The sites were so so small to where you can't even park your car on the peninsula you camp on. There were campers on both sides of us and it looked like they were in our site. My tent is a 10 person tent and I couldn't even fit that in the spot we were given. Not only that but your right by water so I was excited to fish but there is a sidewalk RIGHT THERE next to your site where people can walk up and start fishing. Absolutely no privacy We asked for a refund and they told us to go to the main office so we just left because we only had a few hrs of daylight left to find a campsite. 2024 update. The grounds have a higher rate seemingly every year but that seems to be the trend most places. If you visit for the day ($10.00) and plan to come two more times, just buy the annual pass ($30). The canteen is fun for the kids but draws the younger crowd, the line dancing is automated play and the songs never change. The canteens food and ice cream is great though, always fresh, the staff is always nice. The small beach and large beach are both enjoyable, the pool was closed for a couple of days while we camped here. The putt putt is a disaster. I dont think they have any intentions on putting a dollar into it and I would highly recommend you skip it. People are quiet for the most part during the weekend but Friday night was loud, up till 1am. People cutting through your camp sites all day and night, shinning their flash lights on you, headlights used for light with no consideration. Glass bottles on the beach in the morning. Feces smeared all over the toilet seats. The mens restrooms need updating, immediately. most doors dont lock, they should change the powder coated steel to black core phenolic, it would hold up better to the abuse. Overall, kids have a blast here, plenty to keep them busy but as an adult, I merely tolerate it for them. Perhaps a free or discounted outing at Mystic Creek would make it more of an enjoyable experience but all in all, its okay. read more

Camp Dearborn is awful. I rented a picnic site this past weekend and it was disgusting. The grass hadnt been cut in weeks, the playground looked like it hasnt had any attention this summer and the site itself was filthy including a hornets nest which sent some of my party to the ER. AND management is a joke. The "supervisor" I talked with would not give me his last name. AND the City of Dearborn ignored my email. Camp Dearborn used to be a pretty cool place. If I could rate this I give it has zero First of all we pay top price for a cabin with air conditioning and a fan. It was next to a trash dumpster that stunk of garbage and the water that came out of the faucet and shower reeked of rotten eggs. We found out waiting all week do use a zip line that it was broken and after I put a deposit down I found out the pool wasn't open either. This was an over priced disaster for us we tried to be good sports even bought expensive air mattresses since they don't provide mattresses and we were worn that the ones they sell are insufficient. The lady running the crafts lots bored and tired. Don't go here save your money state park would be great like Cass Lake or better yet go out to Oakland County wave pool and water park if you want the kids to have fun and save a lot of money. read more

Never again! Rude park supervisor, threatened to take my camper when I thought I was booked for an additional day. I was incorrect, but they didn't even talk to me. Later saw I received one call with no message from an unknown caller. giess that was my notice?! We stayed here early in the summer before the area schools got out. I thought this would be nice with the slower campground but it was...meh. The staff was really friendly and helpful in my calls and once face to face. We got there after the office closed and they had a plan for that. I was frustrated we were still charged the summer rate although we were told they were still ramping up and not at full staff. The biggest complaint would be the water. Bring your own!! It is soooo very stinky it took two showers after we left to get the sulfur smell from my hair. read more

I have been coming to camp Dearborn with my family since age 6 (almost 20 years now). I look forward to our week at camp all year, which has a lot to do with fond memories, spending time with family and taking a week off of work. Could they update their facilities, absolutely. Their bathrooms and showers are outdated and don't have great water pressure. That being said though you don't go to camp Dearborn to have luxury you go to have a good time, after all it is called "camp" for a reason so expect some camp like features. They did recently add a zip line but from what I understand it is an upcharge to use. Their canteen could defiantly use some updating, as it's looked the same for as long as I've been going but does still serve it's purpose. I think with some overall updating this could be a wonderful campground and would attract more people if it looked a little nicer. Some things I love about going: Chicken fat every weekday morning, the availability of paddleboats, nightly campfires, spending days at the available beaches. Things I believe they could improve: updating the bathrooms (both close and far from the camp grounds-- bathroom near canteen and in field between cabins and canteen), better planning of events and communication of events taking place, more events for adults to take part in too and overall updating of facilities (canteen, bathrooms, playgrounds, etc.) read more

Not impressed. Our site had not been mowed in what seemed weeks. Grass was almost a foot high. Dumpsters were overflowing. Other campers used their fire ring as a trash can and left trash littered all over the site. Police cars cruising the campground which made me nervous that there was a reason for police presence. Some areas leading into the campground were attractive, but once you get into the camping areas, it's not good at all. Management just doesn't seem to care. NEVER! We booked a full-hookup site for the weekend early on the week. We asked about the cancellation policy because there was a chance that we would have to cancel. They said as long as we cancel by Thursday we would not be charged. As luck would have it, we had to cancel, so we call Wednesday - a day before the money back deadline - and Camp Dearborn said that they will not only charge us for one full day, but that the remainder of our money would not be returned for 4-6 weeks! This is crap. Add this experience to the other Yelp reviews of this place being a glorified trash infested trailer-park, and consider yourself warned. read more

WOW, was this a disappointment! We stopped here for a 2-night stay on the way home from a week on Higgins Lake. We heard good things about CD but we were not impressed! There was no water available anywhere near our site, the nearest "comfort station" was a port-a-potty! The guests next to us were smoking weed constantly. The sites were VERY close together with poor placement of the electrical boxes and fire pits. It looked like this place used to be nice but it needs some serious attention. We packed up an left after 1-night and will NOT be back. The clientele was VERY interesting. Police cars drove past our site every 30 minutes. read more

3 stars is the perfect number for this place. The good: There is lots to do - golf, pools, playgrounds, they have it all. It is close by so you don't have to drive for 1000 hours to feel like you "got away". The sites are fairly close to the potties. The potties are clean. The bad: They cut down most of the trees in the RV section. The playground "rats" (aka terribly behaved children) are not monitored by parents - and they bully. The pool appears very green in the springtime...maybe it turns blue later in the season after kids kill the algae with pee (?). It is a bit pricey. There is no camp store with necessities like longer hoses because the "amenities" are far from the camper concrete pad. They get pissy if you have a tent on the same site as a camper. read more

The water is clean, a lot of people from the community go up there on the weekends and BBQ. There are tents with a separate kitchen area. Grills all over the place, even though most people take their own bbq grills. The water is clean to swim in, no harsh rocks or seaweed. The canteen has the best ice cream, the baby scoops are huge..$2.50 each. There is also put put golf, regular golf course, paddle boats which are great for working out after all that food! I just wish the bathrooms were cleaner. read more

We above enjoyed coming to camp Dearborn for over 20 years! I came as a kid and now I bring my boys here. We like the community feel of all the campers. In order to have a successful camping trip in the green tents you need to be prepared. Broom, extra garbage bags, extra blankets or foam to put in the cots to sleep on, 2-3 fans, table cloths, hand sanitizer, hand washing area, lots of drinks and snacks! The staff at Camp D are mostly young kids so my best advice is please don't be rude, this is most likely their first job or only their 2nd summer working there. I only gave camp D 4 stars because the bathrooms are filthy. I mean bad,toilet paper on the ground, never any paper towel, bugs and the sinks are gross. It's hard to keep them clean because they are in constant use. If you can get over the bathrooms this is great place to make memories with your kids! The canteen is fun at night to dance and eat ice cream! Ok canteen DJ you really need to learn tradition of the canteen. Fast music up until the time warp then slow songs. You will see a pic of the reviews of a empty dance floor, that's because you are playing slow songs at 9pm!!! No traditional music has been played! read more

Wish I had seen a post regarding the mattresses before we went this past weekend. I would have canceled My daughter, her husband and two kids 4 and 2 arrived to the resort cabin after a drive from Ohio to find they would be sleeping on plywood. A dirty cabin with a concrete floor and nothing to sleep on. Needless to say they went to a hotel. When talking to the staff they played a great game of pass the buck and we have still not received a call from Scott which was supposedly who the buck stopped with. They were rude and insinuated we were lying about the cleanliness but there was no way to lie about nothing to sleep on. An employee showed us where they had marked it on a brochure but there was no mention about the mattresses being removed on the paperwork I signed. I didn't realize it was necessary to look at every page of the website. They took the time to say no pets on the contract. You'd think they'd let you know there was no place to sleep. I will be posting a poor review everywhere I can find a place to put it and disputing the charges for the misrepresented unused cabin on my credit card. read more

I've brought my children here for the last 5 years. Staff has always been friendly, lots of fun activities for the kids (crafts, sports, tie dye etc), several playgrounds, paddle boats, fishing and the area is always clean. Canteen has delicious ice cream and a fun dance each night. Both beaches are clean and enjoyable. The 1st 2 years we stayed in tent village. It was ok but more of a party zone. I am all about party camping but not with my small kids. Even though they slept through the noise, I couldn't and was up with them at 7am so we switched to the resort cabins. Resort cabins: Nice, personal bathroom, quiet area, close to many activities however I would recommend putting better bed rails with smaller kids, mine could easier slip through the built in ones. Also, for the price we are paying I feel like a full size fridge would be fitting. The bad: The pool is freezing even in 90 degree weather! Invest in a solar cover please! If the pool doesn't open until 10 or 11am that would give the solar cover enough time to at least take the chill off. If you sit on the edge of the pool it can destroy your suit with old rough paint, needs to be updated. Why can't kids wear a life jacket? Maybe neglectful parents just left their small kids unattended in life jackets or something but seems like a crazy rule. Also, for the last few years there has been a wasp problem by the pool. They need to be spraying the nests every Sunday in between check out and check in to get this problem taken care. This year 2 men were stung in the pool so it really isn't even usable. Overall we love it here, I will continue to bring my kids for as long as they ask me to. read more

I'll give this place a good rating only because of the memories. About 1 in 10 people that stay here isn't an asshole. You will find the occasional diamond in the rough but most of the time, it is rough. The outhouse was tore down a couple years ago and we sure are glad they tore it down because it smelled like aged A1 sauce. This place has a lot of activities and is great for family gatherings. Golf, mini golf, paddle/pedal boats, several nice playgrounds by the pool area, clear swimming lake (a little seaweed on beaches but they were working to clean up),large pool. We stayed in the tents which were functional they could definitely use an update with new screens and some type of weather stripping on the doors to keep out bugs if you leave the tent flaps open. We adjusted for this and kept the light off and the flaps closed to reduce bugs inside. We enjoyed a campfire (wood sold at entrance $5) and played board games at the outdoor table which was a nice touch. The bunks are not comfortable but they keep you off the ground/floor and they provide a broom so you can sweep out the tent as they were dusty. We liked the little cabana with the fridge and cook stove just pack some disinfectant wipes and Lysol. The fun we had with family far outweighed the primitive sleeping conditions. Overall I would say it's a good place to go and enjoy family time with kids of all ages. read more

When we discuss camping so many people refer to Camp Dearborn as a great place to go. We disagree. It's large, the sites themselves were decent sized and the playgrounds are nice. Despite the fact that we paid "in-season" prices we were told after arrival that it was off season and the pool wasn't open. It was 90 degrees but no pool. When it finally opened Saturday, it was green. You can not wear a life jacket in the pool which makes zero sense. We had coast guard approved puddle jumpers for our toddlers and they could not wear them. Pretty impossible to enjoy swimming with toddlers clung to you. The quiet hours don't start until 11 so we had screaming kids running everywhere until then. The beach is hard clay with a small layer of sand on top. The water does look clean and once during our stay they raked the sand. They gave us an activity list for the kids but it didn't start until the day we were departing. Apparently there were activities for the day we were there but we were given the wrong list. It's close to family making it nice for us to have visitors but I don't think we'll be back. read more

My experience at this camp was tremendous. I loved the different activities that I could attend. But I am only giving this a 4 star rating because after I had ordered my ice cream and sat down, one employee got in the line that extended to where I was sitting and dropped some major ass right in my face without hesitation knowing that I was there. That truly traumatized me. Wherever I go I have to look over my shoulder to make sure someone won't shit right in my face. I even have to carry febreeze around because of how bad it smelt. read more

You know, I used to come here every year for as long as I can remember with my family. It's been at least 3 years, maybe 5 since I vacationed here with family. It came to my attention my current boyfriend also uses this campground. We decided why not, lets spend an extended weekend. Well, I am severely disappointed. The atmosphere is not what it used to be. I stayed in the usual cabins, while other friends/family stayed in the newer more upgraded cabins. Apparently, our friends who resided in the more expensive cabins had neighbors who scoffed at my boyfriends 91 v6 4 speed w/overdrive manual trans Ford F150. These people, who had TWELVE children in THEIR cabin had the audacity to say that my boyfriends truck was not "up to standards" and decided to call on us to have our vehicle moved. The only reason we were there was to share our firewood in the back of his truck. I'm aware of the 2 vehicle per site rule, but other sites had plenty of vehicles and it wasnt an issue. Oh and they fail as parents because their children tried to take OUR food and go into OUR cabin. If you want to take children on vacation, you should watch them. I dont bring kids, because I dont have kids. Therefore I am NOT responsible for telling YOUR kids not to go on other sites. I also dont appreciate the constant harassment from Oakland County Police. Everytime we drove to the canteen or the golf course, we were being followed. After we parked, the same cop could circle literally every 5 minutes. Why is the truck so "not up to standards" that you have to constantly see if we are doing anything wrong? That is profiling discrimination I dont appreciate! Oh and the canteen likes to take an hour and a half to make a burger. Are you slaughtering the cow? Jesus Christ! Oh and your paddle boats only have stickers for 2013 and 2014 you may want to obey the law instead of being a joke! I may never come back, since I dont exactly feel welcome there anymore. read more

We have been fulltime traveling in our RV for 8 months and have traveled coast to coast and back, this was by far the worst place we have stayed. It is full of trashy, disgusting people partying all night. There are dozens of permanent residents, many of whom live in tents (i.e. homeless). This is the only place I have stayed where I have made sure to lock up my truck at night. This is not a "camp", like they would want you to believe. We did not camp here but our relatives did & we visited them 3 times while we were there. They had no complaints about it. The bathrooms that we used were very clean & well stocked. The smaller beach near the tents we nice & clean. The larger beach near the picnic area was great. My kids loved the playground & the snack bar was good. Not being from the Michigan area, and our daughter having her wedding there, wedding party accommodations were a must. Camp Dearborn had wonderful cabins on the lake which we were able to rent eight in a row for the bridal party. What an amazing view. They could not have been any more accommodating. Especially since we had school buses picking up and dropping off individuals at the cabins before and after the wedding and reception. Dearborn provided a detailed map for the bus service as to how to navigate through the property. The cabins were everything we hoped for or needed. This is a great place for young folk to stay while the rest of us older ones stay at a hotel. read more

This is the 2nd year I have gone to Camp Dearborn. My kids love it and there are many different activities for the kids to do if they wish. We stay in the tents on the cement pads which is very nice price wise and camping wise (not a tent on the ground but not the nicer cabins). My biggest complaint this year and last year is the time in which the pool opens daily. There is an adult swim from 11 a.m.- 12 a.m. and then it opens for the children at 12 noon. Kids are up WAY BEFORE noon and then we stand outside the gates of the pool watching VERY FEW adults swim. I would think the adults could swim earlier. The bathrooms could be a little cleaner. I also want to comment on the camp counselors, Ryan and Chris are AWESOME with the kids and they make every event a fun one. Thanks Ryan and Chris from your Canadian friends. read more

Beware of this campground if you are a motorcycle rider! When we called to make reservation I asked if they had paved roads or gravel since our bike didn't do very well on gravel. We were told they were paved with no mention that they didn't allow motorcycles at your campsite. We are baby-boomers, have travel the United States on our bike and never been treated like this. We needed the bike to blow our mattress up and carting our trailer with all our supplies to the site. We were told the bike couldn't go to the site and had to stay in the parking lot. Our bike is quieter than all the trucks and very large trailers going in and out most of the day and night. We should have been told about this rule when we made the reservation not when you arrive at the park at 6:00pm. We are over 60, go to bed before 9 and up at 8. There is far more noise coming from large camping groups than our motorcycle. We understand when you are in crowded condition you have to be tolerate of others. This no motorcycle at site rule needs to change or at the very least tell you when you make the reservation and have it on their website. We will never go back to this campground in our travels across this wonderful country. Beware!! read more
