Overall, our experience was very good. From the prompt and personal response to our email request for a reservation, to having the paperwork in order when we arrived. The only downside was the location, a bit of a drive for us, and it also seemed a little chaotic. But, in all fairness, we were picking up on a holiday weekend, so some chaos is expected. I should note that I chose Windy Ridge based on a glowing recommendation from a regular customer with the same breed of dog. They've been very happy there for years and based on my experience, I also consider them to be a good option. I found their rates to be reasonable in relation to other kennels in the area: Rent 1 run for 1 dog: $28/day Rent 1 run for 2 dogs: $45/day Rent 1 run for 3 small dogs: $56/day These daily rates are charged just like a hotel. You pay for the day when you bring your pet in, and checkout time is 12:00 noon the following day. Any checkout after 12:00 noon will be charged an extra day. There were also a couple things far superior to the kennel we used for years with our other dog. They are open seven days a week, so we could pick up our pup on Sunday, which is great emotionally and financially. They will also give your dog medication (orally, not shots), two times a day at no additional charge and a free bath after seven days. It used to frustrate me to no end to pay a per pill charge every day at our former kennel. We ended up finding another kennel closer to home, that was on a smaller scale and just feels a bit more comfortable for our "baby." However, I wouldn't hesitate to board her at Windy Ridge again if my first choice was already full.

Dogs are kept in empty kennels with no toys or beds. They get one thin blanket for the night. Tried to give them more but was told not to "waste" resources. One dog was whimpering and barking from boredom and loneliness, and I was trained to scream at him and spray him with water to silence him. That's the solution for any barking and whimpering, just angrily scream and spray. The "small dog park" they advertise has nothing in it whatsoever; dogs that can't play in the main park just get shunted between empty kennels to a slightly bigger empty space, are ignored except for yelling, and then put back into the kennels after fifteen minutes. They sleep overnight in those kennels, left by themselves. Terrible place.

More on the first person I met: They were pleasant and seemed to take on my dog's behavior as trainable opportunities. She could teach the other two who work there a thing or two on soft skills. When asked several times why, they stated it was new policy and all clients were being charged a deposit for appointment visits. I asked each time I brought our pets in and had to prepay for the office visit before I could make each appointment and every time they said "New policy, everyone pays a deposit for office visits" I called several times under the guise of being a new client and asked about fees and terms of service, needless to say, they don't charge deposits for every client. They were dishonest every time I asked in person! It turned out that over the many many years we've been clients, we missed a total of 3 appointments. They never told us about charges, which we would have paid for the missed appointments but they never said anything, their web site doesn't say anything other than payment due at time of servic. Paying a deposit is not paying at time of service. I love the Drs and techs and will continue to go but I'm not happy about the failure to disclose and lying to me about it.

We have taken them on average 6x per year for stays that range from 2-3 days to longer stays of approx 10 days. We could not be happier with Tanner and his staff. First, let me say that when you drive up you see an old house but when you walk in the front door you notice the house is all for the dogs. The living room off to the right is filled with sofa's that are covered with easy to wash sheets and the dogs are allowed anytime to lounge on them. They have both a covered and uncovered outdoor area for the dogs to roam, get fresh air and do their business outside. Buckets of fresh water are everywhere and honestly, i've never seen dog poop where the dogs are all wandering around. Our dogs come home happy & exhausted from playing with the other dogs. 4 Paws staff have made vacationing less stressful knowing that they are so great with our dogs and our dogs love them as well.
