Flush toilets and free showers available (both are generally clean with adequate hot water to shower with, and you'll see the "off duty" host clean them every day, but their condition will be highly dependent on your neighbors). There are a few hiking trail options during your stay: from inside the campground, if you follow the trail by the entrance/the hosts' RVs, to the right, a quick scurry across the highway, there's a mile long hike up to Jenks Lake. If you go left, you'll go through a few other campsites, then an amphitheater, and then an overlook area with a picnic table. There are a few loops in the trees behind the campgrounds, but I'm not sure where they lead as I just turned around eventually. The east loop (1-22) feels more spread out and private although there aren't really too many decent places to hang a hammock in most spots. The west loop (23+) feels a little closer together (but also not bad) with a lot more trees for shade and to hang hammocks. The west loop also tends to have more RVs and generator users for whatever reason though. I've mostly stayed on the east loop and would suggest bringing a canopy for shade. Even though the temperature may not seem that high, the sun is HOT, and is a little unbearable around 1 PM - 3 PM. Surprisingly, bugs are mostly a non issue even in the summer. Bundles of firewood for sale if conditions allow. $10 a bundle as of 07/2025 cash only. Expect each bundle to last about an hour. The host will go around selling however many fits on their cart or you can just drive your car up to the active host and fill your trunk. Big Bear is also a 30 minute drive away.

The issues I had were people tying things to the trees leaving huge grooves in the bark, wood gathering, and too many cars and people in campsites. We had a group of about twelve next to us they did have two sites but all stayed at one site with 6 vehicles. Also no campground etiquette... please don't journey through my site. Teach your kids better... I will return as I did like the campground!

Parking is available for only two spots in each lot you end up purchasing, it was super easy to park, our lot was 46, so it was a bit of a drive. It was a very friendly area, there was a fire place, a table, and even a stoned cabinet (to store food, etc). The place itself is very close to all the popular lakes and spots. The only downside was that you might not get a lot of sleep, there are many kids there who were keeping people up even at 5am... maybe it's the family itself! But definitely be aware there might be noises and loudness since it's very family friendly! Overall, i'd definitely come back, it was about $120 for two nights!

I belong to an organization that puts on a couple of events each year, typically with 150 plus people, Camp Morning Star outshone the other venues by a long shot. Amazing lodge that really is the heart of Camp, the cabins are clean and spacious, the grounds are beautiful. Best of all Pat is an amazing woman that takes pride in her camp...its her home and it shows in how the place is kept up and how she treats her guests. Highly recommended.

When our party arrived at the campsite, the host gave us the option of choosing a different campsite as they said our original site (#11) wasn't great. We camped at spot #74 and it was very spacious with plenty of shade in the afternoon (the mornings were quite hot). There were two dumpster sites a short walk away, and a parking space large enough for our 2 cars (crossover/ hatchback). The potable water pump was also closely accessible across the road. There are no flush toilets at Heart Bar, only vault toilets. However, staff kept the toilet area pretty clean and stocked with toilet paper. Each site has a firepit, picnic table, and bear box. The hosts sell firewood as well. This campground is also dog friendly, and our dogs had a great time. Compared to other campgrounds I've been to, Heart Bar is a lot bigger and feels more secluded and peaceful as there is plenty of space between campsites. I loved it here! Already thinking about when I can make my next trip back.

I want to say I missed it the first time because I was hoping to see a bigger sign. Otherwise the campgrounds volunteers were very kind and helpful. Lots of pine trees with so much to explore. I fell in love with this camp site and I highly recommend to take your own trash back home. I found many of the dumpsters the next day full. I do not think it is to much to ask. It was a perfect weekend with a full-moon and it does get a bit chilly at night with thin air. It was really refreshing to get out of the city and relax under so many trees. Our experience was our neighbors were peaceful and kind. if you forget firewood they do sell some on site. extra small car parking fee per night $7.

My biggest complaint was the sleeping arrangements. The bunk beds were packed extremely close together--only about 1-2 feet apart--which made it very difficult to climb into and out of the top bunk. There was barely any room to move around, and it felt cramped. Aside from that, I had a great experience. They offer both hot and cold showers, mirrors, a café, a pool, and plenty of activities throughout the day. The food was delicious, and breakfast had lots of options, including coffee, tea, sodas, and cappuccinos. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, which made the stay even more enjoyable. There was also cell service, and I loved that they had fresh spring water available to refill water bottles. Overall, it was a wonderful place to stay, and I'd definitely recommend it despite the crowded bunk bed setup.

This review is to warn anyone…read morethat drives a sedan and not SUV/truck as i dropped off my kid and you have to drive thru two rivers. The one in picture in a past post is the easier one closer to camp. The first river tho is a danger, it is all loose big rocks and hidden dips. Water was not so deep but no flat grounding. I had a sedan and rock punctured my transmission pan. Now my car is stuck in big bear for few days at a auto garage to replace pan. Unless u have at least 8" clearance i wouldnt drive to this camp, wish i knew as its a costly repair and car stuck on mountain. I can give feedback from the girls as there was alot of complaints but really just wanna warn others in sedans.

Options are available for one week, two or even eight weeks. My kids, who are 6,8,9, loved it. They got to bike ride in nature while observing bugs and insects, lizard hunting, fencing, climbing, archery, ziplining, watersliding and horseback riding. Pretty much everything that they won't be able to do with me. O.O I was surprised that my 6 yrs old loved it and none of my kids were excited of me picking them up. Lol. The owner, "Crazzy" Craig, was very pleasant and responsive to phone call. He would give me update for the first three days by phone if we called him. There were lots of paperwork in the beginning and we need to send $500 deposit for each kid, with remaining balance due on the day of. They only accept check or cash. All the counselors were friendly and sweet. The kids got option to prefer top or bottom of the bunk bed and they would be placed together with other kids that was about the same age as them.
