I've camped here a few times and it's always a good experience. Not too far from LA and Highway 38…read moreis a much easier drive than Highway 18 going to Big Bear in my opinion. Flush toilets and free showers available (both are generally clean with adequate hot water to shower with, and you'll see the "off duty" host clean them every day, but their condition will be highly dependent on your neighbors). There are a few hiking trail options during your stay: from inside the campground, if you follow the trail by the entrance/the hosts' RVs, to the right, a quick scurry across the highway, there's a mile long hike up to Jenks Lake. If you go left, you'll go through a few other campsites, then an amphitheater, and then an overlook area with a picnic table. There are a few loops in the trees behind the campgrounds, but I'm not sure where they lead as I just turned around eventually. The east loop (1-22) feels more spread out and private although there aren't really too many decent places to hang a hammock in most spots. The west loop (23+) feels a little closer together (but also not bad) with a lot more trees for shade and to hang hammocks. The west loop also tends to have more RVs and generator users for whatever reason though. I've mostly stayed on the east loop and would suggest bringing a canopy for shade. Even though the temperature may not seem that high, the sun is HOT, and is a little unbearable around 1 PM - 3 PM. Surprisingly, bugs are mostly a non issue even in the summer. Bundles of firewood for sale if conditions allow. $10 a bundle as of 07/2025 cash only. Expect each bundle to last about an hour. The host will go around selling however many fits on their cart or you can just drive your car up to the active host and fill your trunk. Big Bear is also a 30 minute drive away.

Peaceful, Clean, and Convenient Getaway My husband and I…read moredecided to try this campsite since it always seemed to have availability and was just a quick 2-hour drive away. We were pleasantly surprised! The toilets were very clean, and the free hot showers were such a nice bonus--especially after a day of hiking and relaxing outdoors. Each campsite had a picnic table and a fire pit, which made it easy to cook and enjoy meals comfortably. The campground is surrounded by tall, full-grown trees that provide plenty of shade and a relaxing atmosphere. It was quiet and serene throughout our stay--perfect for unwinding. We especially loved hearing the blue jays singing during the day. There's also a trail that leads straight to Jenks Lake if you're in the mood for a peaceful hike or some fishing. To top it all off, the camp hosts were great--very nice, helpful, and approachable. Overall, this spot exceeded our expectations. It's peaceful, well-maintained, and a perfect weekend escape. We'll definitely be back!

Spent 2 nights/ 3 days here on a weekend (Friday-Sunday) in early July with a party of 4. We were…read moresurprised to be able to book a site online less than a week before. When our party arrived at the campsite, the host gave us the option of choosing a different campsite as they said our original site (#11) wasn't great. We camped at spot #74 and it was very spacious with plenty of shade in the afternoon (the mornings were quite hot). There were two dumpster sites a short walk away, and a parking space large enough for our 2 cars (crossover/ hatchback). The potable water pump was also closely accessible across the road. There are no flush toilets at Heart Bar, only vault toilets. However, staff kept the toilet area pretty clean and stocked with toilet paper. Each site has a firepit, picnic table, and bear box. The hosts sell firewood as well. This campground is also dog friendly, and our dogs had a great time. Compared to other campgrounds I've been to, Heart Bar is a lot bigger and feels more secluded and peaceful as there is plenty of space between campsites. I loved it here! Already thinking about when I can make my next trip back.

The camp grounds have a lot of room in between parties so you do not feel so close to each other. The only drawback I found first is the entrance sign is really small and in no time you can miss it. I want to say I missed it the first time because I was hoping to see a bigger sign. Otherwise the campgrounds volunteers were very kind and helpful. Lots of pine trees with so much to explore. I fell in love with this camp site and I highly recommend to take your own trash back home. I found many of the dumpsters the next day full. I do not think it is to much to ask. It was a perfect weekend with a full-moon and it does get a bit chilly at night with thin air. It was really refreshing to get out of the city and relax under so many trees. Our experience was our neighbors were peaceful and kind. if you forget firewood they do sell some on site. extra small car parking fee per night $7.

My husband and were there for my 2nd nephew's wedding at the camp…read more Too rustic for us to stay on the grounds, we stayed in Airbnb cabin in Big Bear much better for us. The bathrooms are not that clean either, and their food was so so even for 150 guests, but my 2nd nephew Michael and his bride Norma, wanted to have this Camp for the wedding venue. Plus the very gravel road to drive with our small rent a car was hard and bad weather that came in the 2nd week of August, but My nephew and niece did this wedding their way . And the family friend that did the wedding was very unsual wedding ceremony but they are happy with their choice for this too. But not for me to stay there.

I spent 3/4 summers of my undergraduate career up at this campsite and I absolutely LOVED it here…read more Home of UCLA Unicamp, this is an amazing, large, and open campsite that is filled with open aired cabins- each of which can fit a dozen or so different people. There is a lodge area suited for food service with lodge tables. Everywhere is woodchipped and paths are well marked with rocks lining walkways. The roads leading up to the campsite can be difficult to find as markers are a little hidden but once you get used to the drive, it is very easy to navigate. Big Bear lake is about 40 minutes away from this site. Grab pie on your way up to the site and enjoy a weekend up here- oh but be aware of beard and rattle snakes!
