We always love camping here because it's the closest camping state park that is close to home and…read morethe beach. It is camping in a parking lot but you get electricity and water hook ups. You must be a self contained camper to stay here. PCH can get noisy with all the cars driving by but after a long day at the beach, you just knock out. The restrooms nearby are cleaned every morning and trash cans are emptied pretty often. So much to do, we always come back whenever we could get a reservation. That can be a challenge because booking is always full in the summer.

They explained how to get to the campground, but omitted some important information. Such as meeting with Camp Host who wasn't as friendly or welcoming because I made a stop, but I was looking out for little kids and pedestrians and not to be talking to anyone. He was pretty angry for not looking up for him. He gave us the bad news that the dump was out of order, and as the main gate fellows, forgot to mention that the showers use tokens and they are sold back at the entrance. Then, being so new at this, I was hesitant and doubtful about parking, but a nice young man helped me. The campground lost stars because of the dump being out of order and PCH traffic noise through the night. We have a small, basic trailer, so is not sound proof. Bring earplugs and close all your windows and vents. Hope you can sleep. The hook up is accesible and easy to use.

This park is a birder's paradise. Warblers, hawks, eagles, shorebirds, etc. I love nature, and coming here brings me peace and joy. I also love how many cute doggies I see walking and playing around. This is definitely where peeps go to Hide away. 4/5 Beach Only reason I put 4 instead of 5 is there is no walkway along the sand as the neighboring beaches. We really enjoyed the beach. Parked and walked right onto the sand. 3.5/5 Bathroom If you have to go you have to go (Jurassic Park). Bathroom located right next to the parking lot. Older bathroom, could use a power wash or at least an air freshener. Shower right on the outside to wash off the sand. 5/5 Parking No paid parking by the beach, unheard of. If you can find a spot it's a hop skip and a jump from the sand. 5/5 Likelihood to Return Yes we've gone twice in the last month. This may be our new go to quick beach trip. Weather was perfect... not too hot or cold. We weren't able to stay for too long as we had another event to attend to that day. We were able to stroll through the area and enjoy the scenic drive. Lots of small shops and restaurants on the main road. It didn't seem too crowded at the time, but then again, it was early morning. I'm sure as the day goes by, there would be more people. Parking was hard to find or perhaps I wasn't looking at the right place. I would love to return here one day to see the sunset from this beach. It is named Sunset Beach so I can imagine how beautiful the sunset would be. Can't wait to find out!

I had a reservation in the overnight campground, but we went a day early and being a holiday…read moreweekend no fire pits available so I brought our solo stove out from the motorhome and we had a beautiful fire to watch the sunset... but didn't think ahead. The stove is going to be blistering hot with no way to move it when they close up so I said I'll come out first thing in the morning. It'll still be there! The pit was gone but big big appreciation to the state parks rep because the first one I talked to said "oh that looked really nice and I wanted to save it for whoever was gonna come back" and he presented it to me with with the ashes already dumped I wish I could remember his name to post it here but hats off to you, sir!!!

Recently came to this beach to celebrate a friend's birthday. Given it was a Sunday, I thought it…read morewas going to be super packed, but to my surprise, parking was a breeze and it was pretty easy to find each other. The beach itself is I guess one of the better beaches in SoCal for bonfires, but idk...I can't find myself to fall in love with the beaches here. The beach I found was still pretty dirty in comparison to others I've been to (outside of SoCal, I know it's an unfair judgment). Overall, this is a decent place for those looking for a bonfire by the beach.

Our home for 30 days! We're halfway through that point now. This park is really beautiful and…read moreexpensive! $72 per night! You pick your space on arrival. Many pull through spaces. There is free Wi-Fi; however, streaming might have issues when the park is full. Free laundry room! Well kept and modern located with the park restrooms. Our Verizon wireless router seems to have issues between 6 and 8 PM but works fairly good otherwise. Great T-Mobile 5G coverage! There's a small NEX within walking distance. No Restaurant on base however they do offer lunch at the gym/sailor Center during the work week. The gym is a very short walk from the park and is open 24/7! They offer a variety of fitness programs if you would like to participate. Very modern facility and equipment! There are several wonderful restaurants in the area! There's even a great little dive bar called Dave's Other Place where many Sailors stop on their way to Main Street when in port.

Kids as young as 5 or 6, zooming around with no helmets, riding through empty spaces, going the wrong way, in and out off the sidewalk. Even after dark, no lights. If you stay here BE VERY CAREFUL because you could get hit while walking or your vehicle could get hit when a bike comes at you out of nowhere.
