We reserved the Muir trailer for 7/6-7/8. The trailer needed some repairs. The beach toys are trashed. There was a corn hole set that was in good shape. We left in the morning of our second day. We left a voicemail and sent a email requesting a refund for the second day. The owner contacted us and explained the repair issues and compensated us for our reservation. Had a blast Vintage Glamping! Great concept. Happy this partnership between State Parks and private business collaborated to bring together such a unique and delightful camping experience. I read about The Holiday's on Trip Advisr and was pleased to find mid-week openings the next week. I paid for one night in advance, but after the fun my granddaughter had that first day, I paid for another night and am glad to have done so. The turquoise and white trailer, "The Drifter" is adorable, as are all four units. Andy, the owner/ manager is friendly, easy to reach by phone, and stops by each day to provide for the needs of his current renters, and to prep for the next to arrive. With an included fridge, freezer, 3 burner stove, plates, cups, mugs, utensils, bbq utensils, sink with running water, heat, ample sleeping for 4, bath towels, beach towels, USB ports, board games, cards, and a bluetooth sound system, the trailer offers plenty of convenience for its diminuative size. For a small extra charge a generator provides AC, microwave and electricity. Each trailer gas picnic table, charcoal bbq, and a firepit... though we joined other campers at the communal firepit and enjoyed making new friends. The Holiday's Community has a shared storage shed filled with complimentary games (Jenga, Cornhole, Horseshoes, oversized Checkers, Bocce Ball, etc.) beach supplies (umbrellas, boogie boards, noodles). The beach is gorgeous... there are two paths to access the beach, one is quite steep and the hike back up is tough. The other path nearest to the Visitor Center is less steep. All in all, big props to The Holiday's! I will definitely be returning. read more

Too close to each other and our tent was right in front of a group site tent which was occupied by a church camp. There were only 2 working bathrooms at the time with all those people in the campsite. Spent about 200$/night which I should have just booked a hotel room. Was disappointed in this place we left a day earlier than planned. I don't recommend this place at all. Don't waste your money. read more

I've gone tent camping in San Clemente a few years ago and had an amazing experience. I was excited to try the vintage trailers to enjoy a bit of "glamping" before the end of summer. I was about disappointed in the state of the camper. The awning was in disrepair and required constant adjustment so we wouldn't rip it further. The interior was decent, everything you could need was provided: pots, dishes, soap, blankets, towels. The common area provided flush toilets and showers (coins need to be purchased via cc at the kiosk). But maintenance on the facilities would be greatly appreciated. The spot comes with 2 parking spaces and proximity to the beach isn't too bad. The center of the campsite has a shared pit and lawn games. Each site gets its own fire pit and gazebo/picnic table. There's enough room to add an additional tent for more guests. For the price, I would just go tent camping, but for those who don't feel like packing and setting up, this is a good alternative. The staff were a bit less friendly then last time as well. We were not allowed to set up a hammock like we have in the past. read more

This place could be an amazing experience BUT it is very rustic and amenities are not what you expect. The bathrooms reek of urine, the shower only accepts tokens so take dollar bills not quarters. The showers only have hot water so our grandkids had a difficult time taking a shower which was needed due to beach trip. Access to the beach is not an easy walk for older people like me. Our grandkids had a blast playing at the beach so we just tried to make the best of our time together. Please fix the screens, You can see the concept is very inviting but not the place for the people who have any sort of health issues. read more

I organized a long-awaited Girl Scout reunion for 11 of us--5 moms and 6 girls--and we were thrilled to book two 20' bell tents at The Holidays on the San Mateo campground. We paid $490 upfront for one night of glamping, knowing it was steep but worth it for the convenience. With busy schedules across five families, one night was all we could coordinate. When we arrived at the Ranger station, I was told we weren't on the list for Saturday night. Instead, my name was marked as a no-show for the previous night. I showed my reservation confirmation, but the Ranger explained the tents were run by a third party and gave me the owner's number. My calls went to voicemail. Hipcamp's customer service didn't respond. Eventually, Andy--the owner--called back. Turns out, Andy had double-booked our tents and claimed the other guests were already settled in--even though we arrived before check-in. He had no backup accommodations to offer. I was stunned. We had packed cars with food, clothes, firewood, and supplies. This trip had been planned for six months. I had to call two other moms mid-drive and tell them to turn around. We scrambled to find two hotel rooms so the girls could still have a mini reunion, but it was more expensive and nowhere near the experience we'd envisioned. To top it off, Andy asked me, "Haven't you ever made a mistake?" That's not how you handle a business error that disrupts five families' plans. This wasn't a simple mistake--it was a complete failure in communication, accountability, and customer service. Think twice before booking with The Holidays. read more

We booked three of the vintage trailers for a family reunion. The trailers, themselves, were clean, but the dishes & pots/pans had to be washed before use. The featured games/toys were in very bad shape: the boogie boards were unusable, the game boards were mixed together with missing pieces, and there were no bolas for the ladder ball game - a huge disappointment to the kids. The owner promised to bring us bolas, but did not. When I complained about the boogie boards, he said they were never used (and he wondered why?), and had 10 new ones at his house but never brought them to the campground. He promised to follow-up with us after that weekend, but never called. Hence, this review. read more

$450 down the drain. I had reservations for a trailer for Friday and Saturday (10/24-10/25) My daughter has had a fever since Thursday so we obviously can't go. Have tried calling every number listed since Thursday to cancel, get credit or to at least modify reservations so someone else in my family can go enjoy my $450 stay. Called reserve California, number on the holidays website and San Clemente state beach and phone number and email listed on reservation email sent to us. Left 4 messages total. Cannot get a hold of anyone that can actually help us. Reserve California said nothing could be done for us and that the trailers were serviced by a third party. This is RIDICULOUS!!! I mean, this pretty much was a vintage dream come true. The trailers are so adorable. It's a community of four trailers. They book up really fast, so if you're interested, I'd start looking now. They come with almost everything you'll need for camping, save for food, clothes and booze. So close to the beach, which is secluded and hardly any foot traffic. The views are unbeatable. The trailer is solar and gas powered. Although you can rent a generator to run the microwave, but I mean.. you're camping. There's a communal fire pit and games (our favorite was corn hole) and a private fire pit and grill for every trailer. Our first night there were people in two other trailers, but the last night, it was just us and another couple and they were super friendly and we ended up hanging out most of the night around the fire pit together. The bathrooms are coin operated outside of the trailer, but still super close. I mean, this pretty much is glamping. Treat yo' self, you and your family will not be disappointed. read more

Campground, Pretty Awesome Pl., Ocean view, etc. all that's good. The state park quiet time BS is stupid. It was about 10:45 PM. Three of us were sitting around the campfire the tiny radio barely on around four and we were talking quietly because we rented five old-school trailers. We rented the whole area and we had people that were asleep so we were being quiet. And some a hole from a campsite around us called the park rangers to come tell us that 10 o'clock is quiet time, I've been at another state park where they said that too and we had four little kids who were sleeping and my wife and I were quietly whispering to each other and somebody had called and said that we were fighting and three park rangers with guns drawn out, separated us to make sure she was OK and she got mad at them. I got mad at them. I don't understand the whole 10 o'clock OK you're five years old now it's quiet time quiet time doesn't mean go to bed or don't talk. It means don't be screaming yelling, playing music, loud, etc., but you're sitting around a campfire, toasting marshmallows and just relaxing, that's not being loud that is. I absolutely cannot wait to come back! I knew it would be a fun time but wow it exceeded my expectations in the best way possible. The camp site was amazing. They had games that were both child and adult fun. The camper itself was adorable, very clean, and as strange as it sounds I loved the appliances...I was not expecting such an updated stove and fridge. Everything we needed was there from cookware to beach towels, even laminated directions for everything possible (thank goodness), and some fun activity sheets for the kids. The bathrooms were cleaner than I anticipated and the token shower had nice piping hot water. The other guests were very friendly which was great fun, especially for the bonfire at night. But the best part was the beach itself, not only was it beautiful and empty but the water was warm and the color was so rich and deep. And finally the owners were such lovely people! They were helpful with everything and very easy to get ahold of. We are already planning our next trip...leaving was the hardest part! read more

The one we stayed in had a refrigerator and blue tooth system that all work off solar power. The beach is a bit of a walk down a steep paved road. But definitely worth it once your down there. Despite the rain, we enjoyed the beach (doesn't get much closer), bbq, making s'mores, biking, playing the various provided games, the sunset, etc. - just a perfect location. Andy, Liz + staff are warm, welcoming, eager to share the camp lifestyle and very helpful. The trailers do have everything you need - just bring your food + clothes (wood too, I believe - my brother in law handled that). Bathrooms/showers conveniently close by as well. We stayed here recently and had a great time. I referred to it as "glamping", simply because the vintage-like trailers have everything you need, all you have to do is bring your clothes and food. The "community", as they call it, is great for groups, families and friends. If you can rent all 3 (4 if you need an ADA trailer) then you can have your own "glamping" party. The beach is just a 5 minute walk down the hill. Bathrooms/showers are across the way in both directions. This was a fantastic experience. Liz and Andy were so accommodating and met us to show us the ropes of the trailer. Book now, they will fill up fast. read more

We stayed here with our two small children and it was so fun! The trailers were fully equipped, all we needed was our clothes and food! Our almost 3 year old rode his bike all around the campsite and it kept him occupied and happy. We stayed in the ADA trailer, it has a beautiful ocean view from the table and plenty of room! The Wrangler had all we needed for a peaceful stay- fridge, stove, running water, USB ports for charging phones etc, nearby bathrooms were lit up for night-time and electricity if you need. Definitely a quintessential California camping experience with perfect weather, sunsets and great beach. Perfect for kids and families, lots of kids riding bikes. Nice walk to the Pier, close drive to town to get supplies, but you really don't want to leave once you're there. read more

This was our first time camping in a trailer and we will definitely be back. If you're looking for quality time with your family among a beautiful and peaceful outdoor environment, you can find it here. There are four cute and clean vintage trailers in The Holidays trailer community. We rented "the Muir" which is the red one with a striped canopy. Inside, the trailer is equipped with a sink with running water, lights powered by solar, refrigerator, linens, pillows, and towels, pots/pans, silverware, water kettle, board games, and other convenient items. We did not rent a generator but there is a microwave. There are plenty of seating areas and it was fun transforming these areas into beds at night. We slept five people, but some of the taller among us felt it a tighter squeeze. Four adults comfortably for sure. Outside, there is a shaded picnic table, BBQ grill, fire pit, and wooden chairs to relax and stoops to sit near fire pit. There is also a larger shared firepit ring in the center of the four trailers common area, outdoor games, and a shed with more games. The set-up of the four trailers allows for privacy with just your group or community with people among the four trailers, whichever you choose. At all hours, everyone in the four trailers and also larger surrounding campground was very courteous and respectful. The location has great access to both the nearby restrooms and a paved walkway directly to the beach below. The paved walkway to the beach is beautiful and fenced, but steep (not dangerous as it is a wide walkway, just a high incline). Should only take a few minutes to go down, a few more minutes up. We felt lucky that The Holidays campsite was so close to the walkway entrance, noting that other sites in the larger campground had a much further walk. There is also a nearby water spigot for rinsing off near the campsite and walkway entrance. There is a pier and seafood restaurant about 1.3 mile walk down the beach. We didn't try the restaurant (cooked on the firepit grill), but it's an option. There is also a walking/running trail that runs for a few miles along the beach. Lots of people walking dogs on the trail, although dogs are not allowed on the beach itself. Beach seems to be more of a surfers beach. Some people wading, none swimming that we saw. Saw a few boogie boarders and lots of surfers. Sand in water has rocks and larger stones and waves were strong. Aside from powerful currents, back at the campsite be watchful for a lingering skunk who seemed to like the company of campers by the fire at night. No one got sprayed, but there was some anxiety considering how close the skunk got a few times. Overall, I feel that The Holidays trailer rental price is very reasonable for the location, experience, and everything that is provided ($189 per night). Note that second car is charged $15 at the check-in area, and for convenience firewood is available for $7 there as well if you forgot yours. All in all, this was a very comfortable, positive, and memorable family experience and one that we hope to enjoy again soon. Don't forget to bring: clothes, food, firewood, cash for coin machines for showers, toiletries, sunblock, umbrella for shade at beach, drinking water. read more

We stayed for five nights in August. Actually we booked five nights and stayed four. The trailers are a unique experience. We went in the summer so ants were a major problem in the campsite. It was nice to have the huge tubs provided to store our food. The fridge in the trailer is tiny. It holds about a day of food for a family of four. It also takes about 16-18 hours to get properly chilled so keep that in mind. The trailer we stayed in was cute but showed lots of sign of wear, as does most of the site. Broken toys, broken supplies, nothing organized or put away just left out all the time. The many reviews of the hospitality from the host is what we relied on when weighing the $1400 for our stay. However we didn't receive it - at all. When we stayed five families came and went in that time. So the host only needs to make a favorable impression on one out of six families to get a good review. A little disingenuous. We texted that we were leaving a night early, you'd imagine most host would reach out to you at that point. This host did not. read more

We had the best time at the holidays! This is the BEST way to camp...our family of four will definitely be back. After many years of tent camping, we decided to give this adorable little vintage trailer a try... It's SO CUTE!! Everything from the kid bunk to the little magazine rack to the little stove I loved cooking on... Plus the location within the campground is awesome- close to the beach trail, bathrooms, etc. the big communal fire pit in the middle is so awesome for s'mores gatherings. This place has really got all the stuff you need for family fun- the chairs, games, beach towels, yummy coffee, a bed big enough for a couple (my husband is 6'3" and we slept great), even a tiny adorable air plant hanging in the window!! Went down to visit friends who were staying the night! Wow!!! San Clemente State Park has always been a favorite camping spot. You can hear the seals out on seal rock at night, this is the coolest way to camp. Campers are brand new, but look like they're from the old days. With 4 campers with a group fire pit and each campsite has a BBQ, you could pitch a few tents and have an epic weekend. Will differently have to plan a campout here soon. read more
