Hubby chose this Michelin recommendations for mothers day lunch. We had overall a pleasant experience. The menu is precise and presentation of food is pretty good. On the menu you have 3 starters : we ordered Guac and chips( 15$) came with 2 homemade authentic chips( not store bought) guac and a matcha salsa( delicious), we asked for chips refills and they did it on the house. The chips are outstanding! Mains: they serve tacos! Period! And they have done a decent job for vegans they have and vegetarians - 2 , and a decent variety of non vegetarian tacos. This little Michelin taco spot totally lives up to the hype! It's small, cute, and I loved the atmosphere. Tacos run about $11-$12 each, a bit on the pricier side, but they're filling and full of flavor (two or three would be enough to fill you up). The mezcal passion fruit cocktail was delicious! I tried Campechano for the first time this past holiday season for a cousin gathering. The restaurant is on the smaller and cozy size but fit our group of about 15 all in the back area nicely. It was a nice casual restaurant where our large group felt comfortable to chat freely and mingle. I heard that this restaurant is michelin recommended so I was excited to try it for the first time. The menu is quite large for a taco restaurant and had lots of options for any tastes. I had 3 tacos - the Pescado, Carne Con Queso and the campechano. The price is typical downtown pricing but each taco was packed with ingredients. I could have gotten away with eating 2 tacos and be full. We also ordered guac and chips for starters and they provided unlimited chips (which were fresh!). To end the dinner we had the tres leche. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients which we all enjoyed thoroughly. Finally, the service was top notch. Super attentive and very friendly staff. The food was also served one at a time so you could thoroughly enjoy your taco hot before diving into the next one. I can see why they received the Michelin star! read more

One of my favorite meals in Toronto. A host of various taco options. Each better than the last. Ended up going with the Tinga de Res. Delectable. Found this place on the Michelin guide and it definitely lives up to its hype. $10 for one taco seems pretty pricey but it's actually quite large and surprisingly filling. Between two people we shared 3 tacos and chips with guac/salsa and we were quite full. I'd also highly recommend getting a drink with your meal! Campechano is still probably the best taco spot in Toronto - the carne con queso, which is braised beef with cheese and a crispy tortilla is one of the best I've ever had. You can't go wrong with any of their tacos, especially the steak which is a classic. BUT, the prices have gotten insane - at $13 for a taco, that's nearly double most other places. Honestly one of the best taco spots in the city! We were blown away with how flavourful each and every taco we had was. Our top favourites were the chorizo con papa and the carne con queso. One order is a single taco so it is slightly on the more expensive side but it is so justified and worth it! The portion size is hefty for a single taco, but at the same time the ingredients are not spilling over the sides. You can taste the individual layers of the ingredients in the tacos which was amazing and all the flavours combined together was truly divine. Slightly disappointed that some items we wanted to try were sold out but by no means did that take away from the experience! My dad and I came here on a last minute decision, and I'm so happy we did. The chips and guacamole were super fresh and tasty, not just some store bought stuff. We got four tacos: the mushroom one, the Carnita, the chicken one, and another pork one I believe. All of them were super flavorful with well thought out combinations. The mushroom one is a must have and I would also recommend the carnitas one as well. It's a very intimate venue with a cozy feel. The servers are friendly but not overly attentive. It's been a few years since I've last had Campechano tacos (being in the GTA and with COVID and all), so I've had massive cravings after trying some pretty bad tacos in Mississauga. My friend and I went downtown today to grab some of these amazing tacos for lunch - and it sure didn't disappoint! Although the website says that it opens at 12PM, we were told to wait for half an hour more (they were just getting the patio seats set up). So, we walked a few blocks before returning. Despite the vaccine passport being in effect, we weren't asked for our proof of vaccination - unsurprisingly, as the staff were quite busy trying to get everyone seated and served. It may also have been because we were doing outdoor dining (vs. indoor), and I believe the proof of Vx only applies to indoor dining. I knew I wanted to try the Pescado (top-notch fish taco!) and debated between the Campechano vs. Barbacoa - ultimately settling for the lamb barbacoa after the waitress' recommendation. I've tried both before so I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. The Pescado was everything I wanted - the fish was fried perfectly and the pickled slaw was the perfect, tangy touch. The Barbacoa was a little heavier - the creamy, spicy sauce kept dripping down my plate (leaving a bright red mess!) but the lamb was deliciously gamey and delicious. My friend got the Pescado, Campechano (skirt steak + chorizo), and Hongos (mushroom) - and preferred them in that order. Overall, a delicious meal and I'm definitely going to miss this until the next time I return! read more

3.5/4- the chips and salsa were great! I also really enjoyed the fish taco. I found the pollo al pastor too salty for my liking, I drank a lot of water after taking a bite. The other issue was that everything ran out very quickly, we went at 6 pm on a Saturday- the chips ran out and the other tacos I wanted to try ran out as well. I've had better tacos elsewhere but the patio was cute and the classic mojito was tasty. Will be back to hopefully try other tacos. read more

Located just one road away from the kings street prime spot, this location is an interesting spot. As expected there is no parking allocated for this place due to its location but there are few parking spots near the area. THE AMBIANCE on the inside looked a bit messy. This spot is a TACO specialist place so the food orders get served almost in no time. This place have both indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered for a spicy margarita and the classic one. Also we ordered for the Polo Al Pastor Taco To start of with the Margarita was very well done but not all Taco's were great. The staffs were very good and very clear at explaining their menu. Long story short: Delicious and fresh tacos in a warm welcoming atmosphere! Long story long: Great place to go for tacos! There is limited seating, often in tables of 2, so I can see it filling up very quickly. It may be more difficult to get in without reservations. The decor is vibrant and eclectic. Our waiter was kind, attentive and helpful when we had questions. We tried the guacamole and salsa to start, followed by the pascado and tinga de pollo tacos. Fair warning that it is a bit on the expensive side and it is only 1 taco per order. They are fresh, a big more stuffed and well made, so I think it's worth it! The pascado taco was delicious and less spicy. On one hand, it's great that the menu is small, so it's easier to choose and stick to it, but I was hoping there were more options that were not as spicy (my tolerance is shamefully low). Each taco had a bit of a kick. The tinga de pollo was great too, with plenty for 1 portion, just a bit too much on the spicy side for me! Seeing me struggle, the waitress offered to get me a different one, which was lovely hospitality, but I declined because I'm not a coward. That dessert menu was tempting. Campechano... oh boy! We got there with no reservation and super excited since hearing about their mention on the Bib Gourmand Michelin Star guide. We got seated very quickly and with no problem. Patio vibes were nice, but nothing overly impressive. Our server came with menus after a little while and had to take us through there lack of menu options. So for starters there were no appetizers, because they had no tortilla chips (excuse me?! Is this a Mexican restaurant) so right off the bat it gave me a weird feeling. Then they went on explaining they didn't have a few of the tacos on the menu and ended up the conversation by saying there is only 2 beers available out of the 10ish beers advertised in the menu. I was super disappointed in this. Greg ended up ordering a Negra Modelo and I got a White wine by the glass. My white wine was served on the same glass wear as the water, mildly chilled and just not even 5oz of wine in that glass for $9?! For food Greg went with the Tocihongos (bacon and mushrooms) and Chorizo con Papas. And I went for the Pescado and I thought I tried their Campechano (it has the name of the restaurant, so must be good right?!) No surprise here, we were so disappointed with all of our options. Tocihongos was a fine taco, a little too greasy. The Pescado was just a simple very plain fish taco. The Campechano let's me just say was oil and chunks of what seemed like ground beef with way to much sauce on it. For all the tacos the tortillas felt steamed?! Not pan fried as a taco usually is, which made the tacos that much harder to eat. Overall super disappointed, I don't think this place is worth the hype (sorry Michelin Guide... This is the first time you've disappointed me) and to be fully transparent each of those tacos were $10, not worth the price either. read more

Absolutely loved the mushroom and bacon taco, it is definitely a must try! The ceviche was good but not extraordinary for the price. I'm taking off one star just for the price. Tacos were good for the most part, drinks were decent, nice patio for the summer so if that's what you're looking for, it's perfect but you can get the same quality tacos or better for much cheaper at Kensington and other places in the city (Itacate St Clair). The Carnitas taco I had (I think that was the one, it was pork but maybe misremembering the name) was a bit greasy and messy which was a struggle to eat as the tacos are delicate and fall apart so just be aware. If you get a saucy taco, don't wear anything you like too much or put a bib on and tie your hair back. Fish tacos were great and easier to eat without being messy. My God I am in love with this place ever since being introduced to it. Yes prices are a little higher but the quality and flavour is just amazing not to mention they really fill these babies! I definitely recommend getting the ceviche, AAA ribeye taco its my favourite along with the fish taco and the braised lamb and why not finish off your meal with their $4 tres leches topped with fresh strawberries and a drizzle of strawberry coulis. I would be good with sharing the ceviche app and having two tacos for myself. The decor is small and cozy, reservations ahead of time is highly recommended but they do leave a bit of space for walk ins. They also own Good Hombres on Bathurst and Dundas and have even opened a 3rd location somewhere on College st. I just keep coming back to this location since its walking distance to me but will definitely be checking out the other places soon. Campechano is a great place for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Their menu contains options for both and items are sold by piece, so everyone can order whatever they want. Most tables start with the guacamole ($8) where it arrives with two cups brimming with thin crispy chips, which they refill if you finish the tortilla before the dips. The salsa roja is great, with just a bit of spice and plenty of zest. It leaves the guacamole feeling fairly neutral, jazzed up with pomegranate - an interesting twist, though personally I do enjoy my dip without fruit. If you're feeling hungry than order a sencillo sopes ($6) for yourself; otherwise, it's hearty enough to share. The tortilla is thicker and soft, almost like naan but not oily. A layer of refried beans is spread on top with lettuce, cheese, and two types of sauce covering the pillowy tortilla. A different alternative to Campechano's tacos, but not nearly as exciting. If you can handle spice, the hongo ahumado ($6) has a healthy kick of fiery sauce drizzled on top. This heat was unexpected as the taco's description made it sound earthy tasting, from the smoked mushroom base, with a hearty finish, thanks to the white bean puree. In reality, aside from the spice, it's rather fresh with plenty of herbs sprinkled over top and very tasty, despite all the water you'll have afterwards. On the other hand, the healthy sprinkling of cotija cheese on the rajas ($5) makes the roasted poblano peppers taco richer than you'd expect. Additionally, the peppers aren't spicy at all, instead having a deep earthiness. With little bits of corn added for bite, this was another tasty taco. Campechano's dining room is small and cozy, so try to make a reservation. Regardless, there seems to be plenty of walk-ins and on our weekday dinner visit, the wait wasn't long... their service is friendly and efficient so most tables turn over quickly. read more

We were going to be in the area meeting friends on a Friday night, but we had some time to kill before the get-together so I scoped out the area on one of those reservations apps and there was Campechano. I'd been wanting to check the joint out for literally years, so when I saw that there was a spot open for 8:00, I grabbed it immediately. We arrived right on time and were shown to a very tight table right near the front of the restaurant. Normally I'm pretty annoyed when restaurants cram tables together, but I didn't have a problem with it here. The loud atmosphere and dim lighting was exactly what I was in the mood for. We decided to start with the Guacamole & Salsa ("Served with house-made chips"), and they were fantastic. The chips tasted super fresh, while the guac was creamy and addictive and the salsa was flavorful and spicy. A great start, to be sure. But the star of the show are the tacos, and I wound up ordering three: Campechano ("Grilled sirloin steak, chorizo, salsa morita"), Pescado ("Beer-battered haddock, red cabbage, chipotle mayo"), and Pollo Al Pastor ("Marinated chicken thigh, pineapple, salsa macha"). I was a little concerned that the $9 price point was a little unreasonable, but any such concerns were rendered moot as the tacos began to arrive. These are enormous concoctions that are more like small burritos than traditional tacos. And the flavors in all three were outstanding. I enjoyed both the Pescado and the Pollo Al Pastor, but the winner for me was the Campechano, which, after I ate it, I proclaimed one of the best tacos I'd ever eaten. It's ridiculously good. I wanted to finally order the Tres Leches, but they were sadly sold out. This didn't diminish what was otherwise a delicious, enjoyable experience, and I can't wait to return. read more

One of my favourite taco places! They're doing walk ins only with outdoor patio dining only right now. I grabbed a seat pretty easily at 6 pm on a Wednesday. They have QR code's for the menu and contact tracing form. I got the fried fish (pescado) taco and the mushroom (hongos) taco. Both were so delicious and very flavourful. I also got a margarita which was yummy and also strong We started with guacamole and chips which was average, nothing too special. Campechano and Seven Lions are the only two "authentic" tacos I've had in Toronto, as compared to tacos you can get in the US, particularly as you get close to the Mexican border. At $6-$8 each, they're not cheap, and you'll need between 2-4 to fill you up. Avoid the sangria - one of the worst I've had in Toronto. read more

Cute little taco restaurant that's serving up some delicious Mexican food. Their speciality based on our experience and previous reviews is their tacos lol! The service was excellent and the ambiance is beautiful with plenty of patio space. Please note, the place is also 'dog friendly'. Out of all soft tacos we tried, their chorizo and fish tacos were favorite. Average price per taco is approximately $8-10.
