I read several negative reviews on this location and they all rang true. The people there only want titles and paychecks with no responsibilities. I have been preaching this message for over the last 15 years. It should not come as a shock to see so many companies closing their doors. No company is escaping this shifting in the marketplace. The simple ability of employees to connect and communicate is a lost art. People scheme and figure out ways to do less and make more. I met such a person named Mike Mckay Service Manager at this location over a month ago. I'm the Corporate Wellness Coach for a fortune 100 brand that relies heavily on repair technicians to give 100% confirmation on logistical time frames for repairs. I took the companies motor coach in for a non complex oil change on one generator and a full PM service on the 2nd backup generator and also diagnose why it was shutting off after a few minutes of running. The motor coach was returned with no work done on the 2nd generator and I can't even confirm the first generator was even touched. The 2nd one clearly has the same hoses and belt that is supposed to be changed on a full PM job. I was charged almost $400 for work that was not done. We have been only able to use the one working generator. The coach has over $100,000 in equipment and was left unlocked and unsecured. Believe only 10% of what he says he can do 0% of what he will actually do. We have requested a refund over 3 weeks ago, which he has kindly ignored. I will be taking this up with American Express, filling with the better business bureau, and having our legal team look into this huge oversight. Every customer should be treated like they are a fortune 100 company bringing our money to get the service we pay for. It's because of paying customers they have paychecks. We couldn't find anywhere to dump on our route between Rochester and here. We called ahead and asked if they had an open dump station and propane. They welcomed us. We needed to fill up but the outside water was frozen ( of course, winter in NY) so they allowed us to pull around to their shop bay to fill up. We had been without water for 2 days. Our gray water tank was completely full and our black water tank was almost full. The staff was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. We were very appreciative. Super nice people! read more

They lied, weaseled, and extremely mislead me. we agreed on a contract and then a monthly payment and amount of years. Then they sold me on an extended warranty!!!! ONLY 10 DOLLARS MORE A MONTH..... I AGREED. only to read my revised contract a week later to find out they added 9 years to the contract. That's how the got it for only 10 dollars more a month. I have had to fight with them over damage they did to my camper (floor and slide out). took a month to repair the damage the caused while in there shop. only after my first camping trip. the repaired floor is bubbling ever where. they said there work is only warranted for a year. the damaged they caused I am now responsible for. Their customer service and stand by stops when you sign the contract and walk out the door. on a side note. I traded my camper in on this new one. A man from West Monroe contacted me. he bought my trade in. They lied to him and He was pissed about water damage on my camper I traded in. I told him i told them about it. they said i didn't. but camping world left my contract in the camper he had all my info. thats how he got my name price they paid me for it, my address. he texted me it! We do love the camper we purchased from this location, however, their customer service and management were so awful once they had those papers signed, we'll never go back or refer anyone to them. Let's start with out trade in; it was in pristine condition. They tried to give us $2,500 less on trade in than every other place we'd shopped. They only met that trade in value when we told them as much and we're walking out the door. The sales manager kept urging us to use their banks for financing, though we wanted to use our own local credit union--adamant we'd never find a better rate and we'd be getting ripped off if we didn't do it his way. Our bank offered us a rate 9% lower than he could get. Imagine that. We chalked these things up to salesmen and their attempts to hit extra incentives and came to an agreement on the purchase. We delivered the check, signed the contracts, and planned for pick up. That's when things went shady. At the pickup, they decided that our trade in that had been previously inspected by other dealers had all sorts of fabricated damages, and suddenly they wanted another $2000 cash from us on the spot to complete the deal. When they heard we could only part with $500 on the spot, suddenly $500 was all they needed. If there were legitimately $2k in damages, $500 wouldn't suffice. Not to mention the contracts had been signed, I have serious questions about where that $500 went to, because I doubt you'd see in in any of the paper trail of our account. Honestly, had I been present at pick up I'd have walked away, this deal only went through because my other half couldn't reach me right then to give my opinion. So he gets the camper home to realize they didn't actually put the keys in the folder, just empty key rings. He calls immediately to request they be mailed. Nearly 2 weeks and numerous unanswered calls to our sales person, sales manager, and business manager later, we eventually called their corporate office for assistance. Turns out they'd lost the keys, corporate was now aware of this and the trade in scam they'd pulled, and still no one had the sack to call us back from the location. Shout out to their corporate office for overnighting us new handles and locks at least, and indicating they'd be investigating the additional trade in money taken at pick up. Shame on the actual branch though, scamming people out of extra money however possible, and not being responsible enough to admit when a mistake has been made and simply making it right. We won't be back, and we won't send anyone their way in the future. read more

Bought an RV at Camping world in Syracuse. Without boring you with the details of that sale and there were many... The COSTUMER SERVICE IS AWFUL. They gouge you with prices and nickle and dime you with service charges. And the waiting time is lengthy. I moved to California. While there I had problems. The Camping World store in San Marcos was just as bad. Incompetence was the issue there and it's alway expensive to fix things (frankly items that should have been working from the get go). Now back in Syracuse. BTW the cab (engine) is fine, the cabin, not so fine. Recently I had some repairs done (took over a month). I also had them check out a few things (just to look). There was nothing wrong with either item but they charged over 50 dollars each JUST TO LOOK!) Not to be unfair. My TV broke down. They did replace it (warranty). But of course was charged labor. Warranties don't cover labor. There are lots of other RV stores in the WORLD. Avoid Camping WORLD. read more

I purchased a gently used Coachmen Class A motorhome. I negotiated for a day before deciding to buy the motorhome, and finally I came to the decision to make the purchase. After all of that negotiation, I was told that, oh by the way, this unit has been in a fender bender and the damage is not been repaired. I asked for photos, and they were very helpful in providing photos of every speck of damage on the unit. That is to their credit. But then I sent a note to the salesman to tell him, in light of the damage, the absolute best price I could do was $3000 less than what we had discussed before, and I needed them to install a washer and dryer as well. He talked it over with his manager, called back, and said that they could do that deal. I told him I would make my travel arrangements. Since it was the day before, my plane ticket cost a fortune, and I had to put up my wife and family in a hotel in Baltimore, since I would not be able to meet them. After we went through everything to get the deal finalized, they sent over the purchase agreement with the price $3000 higher. They knew that I had paid for the expensive plane ticket and the hotel, and they exploited it to their advantage at the last possible second. I should've walked away right then, but it would be hard to throw away all of that money on travel arrangements. So, the next day I flew up to get the motorhome. My salesman was a very nice guy, but he is working for a manager who lacks scruples entirely. My salesman worked hard to get the unit ready for me and make sure I was satisfied. That is to his credit. Nonetheless, my purchase agreement stated that I would have a full propane tank, a tire inspection, and that I needed to pay $695 for them to get the unit road ready. I paid it, because of course I want the "experts" to make sure everything is right and safe on the vehicle. When I did the walk-through inspection, I noticed that the propane tank was empty, the black and gray tanks were full, the freshwater tank was empty, and a sensor needed to be replaced so that the retractable steps could go down. The service department agreed to remedy each of those punchlist items right away. When I left the dealer, the first stop I made, I realized that the steps would not come down. They had just put the steps in the locked position when I got into it, so I wouldn't notice that they had not changed the sensor. Okay, not a big deal, sensors are not expensive. But it was snowing pretty hard and cold, so I went to turn on the heater. The propane tank was empty. That was frustrating, so I immediately had to go pay for a propane fill up, even though I had already paid to have the tank filled at camping world. Okay back on the road again. I went to use the bathroom and realized a very foul odor. Wouldn't you know it, they didn't pump the tanks. So, I had to pull over at a dumping station so that I could dump someone else's sewage. I also filled the freshwater, because of course that had not been done either. I was a bit miffed at that point, but I didn't even call to complain, because with a little frustration and money, each of those problems could be fixed. So I picked up my wife and kids in Baltimore, and we got on the road the next day. Driving on the highway, the newest tire on the whole motorhome blew out. Fortunately, it was one of the back tires, so we did not lose control. I called out a technician, and he said it was really surprising to see that such a new tire would just blow out for no reason. But then he checked the tire pressure on the tire next to it. Rather than the recommended 110 psi, it was at 35 psi. He said, without any doubt, that was the reason my tire blew out. Even though my purchase agreement stated that they would inspect the tires and I paid the $695 for the full road ready inspection, nobody even checked the tire pressure before I got on the road. So, $1100 later and a whole lot of inconvenience, I had a new tire and we were back on the road again. I also shelled out a couple hundred dollars of cash to the tire technician to dismount the other tires and check them, since camping world had obviously not done it themselves. At that point, it was enough. I let camping world know of all that it happened, and I told them that, even though they had not done their jobs, all I was asking was that they pay for the tire replacement. I sent them the receipt, which had the technician's report to indicate the reason the tire blew out, as well as the cost. Given the horrible job they did on delivering a safe vehicle and the swindling they had done on the price, it seems that I was being much more than fair. No response. I contacted them again. And again. And again. After more than a week of no response, I called my salesman's cell phone. He checked in with the manager, and the manager still refused to speak to me. They are reckless and they are liars. Don't put your family at risk. read more

This camping world is no different than any other camping world, service sucks, once there is a sale they don't know you, they lie to you at the time of purchase, if you need to get a warranty repair done, plan on leaving your rv there for most of the season, ask them to check our AC out 1 week after we purchased or rv said nothing wrong, we just hired a mobile repair person and guess what full of papers, wood shaving and Camping world said they vacuumed out the duct work, another lie, never purchase from them unless you do not plan on any warranty work and never have any questions read more

very disappointed in in this place !!! just bought a used 27 foot travel trailer set a time to pick it up when arrived the trailer was still outside in the snow waited over an hour to have them bring it inside it was covered in road grime and salt spray ,2 inches of snow on roof so i could not check the condition they couldn't even have the thought fullness to wash it off !!! also was supposed to have 2 new full propane tanks when i removed the cover and checked on site they were empty and not the correct 30 Pound tanks they put little 20 pound tanks these are not correct for a camper that size even the manufacture states 2-30 pound tanks, also it was inspected and passed when i got home i noticed the 2 rear tires are wore out on the inside from a bent axle or over load was also told the wheel bearings were repacked this was. Not true as I disassembled all 4 hubs had old baked on grease in the hubs and old seal's still waiting for a return call from the manager as of 1-26-19 will update just be-careful when you buy from this place read more

I always take people's comments with a grain of salt one way or the other and any business is going to have good days and bad days. I ended up leaving my trailer at CW for nearly two months because of work, but no issues they fixed everything that needed fixing and the one thing they missed they ended up giving to me for free. All I can say is, buyer beware. They are "car dealers" so don't expect them to do what they promise. They promise the world when dealing, but have every excuse for why they couldn't do what they said they would when it comes time to pick up. They also did some requested work, but butchered the job, and replaced the gray water valve to a place where you had to crawl 3ft under the unit to operate it. Who wants to crawl on the ground at a dump station. We did purchase the unit because it was exactly what we wanted, and in good condition to start with. I since have made a cable mechanism to operate the valve from the dump compartment where it belongs. read more

They still have it. We were told it was done, went to pick it up last week and only part of items were fixed so we left it there. My husband and purchased a 2015 Cougar fifth wheel in July 2019 from camping world in Syracuse NY on consignment. We had looked at several RV's across the state and decided on this one. We were scheduled to pick up and have the fifth wheel hitch installed, we paid $200 in the price to have the RV gone over with us to teach us about it. This day took over 6 hours...of waiting. The tour of our RV lasted 15 minutes. The guy had no idea about the RV. When the hitch was done and the brake did not work on our truck the service guy was MAD and rude toward us because he was ready to go home. So we left after the brake was fixed with a temporary registration that was to be fixed in 45 days, I just called to get it yesterday! So we went camping for the first time the last week of August and had no idea where the hot water tank was, found on our own, there was a propane leak that was wrapped with Teflon tape around the gas line. I used my kitchen sink for the first time and it flooded the floor. Come to find out the "gally" tank was full. I never knew this existed and the "gally" lever is broken. Upon checking the levels of the tanks I find the "black" tank is full as well. Now how long has that been, I am carting around other peoples "dirty" water. GROSS!! Needless to say we will not return to do any business with this company. read more

When we looked at the camper, molding was falling off, the rv was dirty from the factory work and a window had a crack in it. Still I was willing to crunch numbers. After speaking with my wife about the price and monthly payments, it was felt the price should have been lowered with the issues. I took my Southwind to Camping World Syracuse to get an estimate on purchasing 2 tires. I also was having an intermittent coach 12 power problem. Was charged $27.00 to be told that 2 tires would cost me Around $500.00 plus installation. I cannot believe a charge for receiving a price on tires. After I complained it was removed but really, charging me a fee for the tire price unbelievable. I was also charged a diagnosis fee for my 12 volt problem only to be told the problem could not be found as everything was working correctly. When I went to my coach I had no coach power. I went back in and spoke with the service advisers who finally sent out a mechanic. The mechanic told me the batteries were discharged (how could the problem be diagnosed if the batteries were not charged?). How could the determination be made that everything was fine? He also said a connection to the batteries was bad (this fact was not included in the original diagnosis)and one or two other problems were discussed. About $50.00 more down the drain as I feel no real diagnosis could have been done on the 12 volt system if it had no 12 volts. REALLY DISAPPOINTED and feel cheated by the charges for the service I received..(or didn't). read more

Customer service in service sept is very lacking. I dropped rv and car off Wednesday - rv check over and oil change and car tow package. I heard Nothing from them until Thursday when got message that a part was needed. Called back and left message to order part. I had to call and leave another message on Friday and finally about 4:00 talked to someone about. was finally ordered but now going to be 3-5 days to get it in. Car i drive car? Would let me know but never heard anything. Status of camper? Got email at 5:50 with cost of shipping part and rv should be ready Monday or Tuesday? This was supposed to be a two day job. It's not been 4 days and no return call today after two voice messages as well as a message left with a person. I'm now standing here asking can I drive the car? Left standing here like they're looking for it? And I haven't even been able to ask about the rv and of course inbred to get clothes as I only took enough for a couple days and had to buy some already. Plus I'm crashing on someone's couch or I'd have to rent a hotel. I am beyond upset. Now just get info that rv is ready - apparently no one told the service desk? But car can't be driven as to brake lights. Maybe can out together so I can have it Monday until part comes in? We will see read more

Bought a Retreat with a loft at the end of May. The salesman was great. After you're done with the sale you might as well forget about good service. Erin was not helpful at all. Doesn't return phone calls in a timely matter if returned at all. Orders wrong parts. Sets up appointments and then doesn't have someone come and the list goes on. We've had so many issues I can't even begin to tell you. The biggest is having the gray tank fall on the axle almost ripping completely off. What a disaster. The air conditioners both not working correctly. Windows that can't be opened...........Erin promised that our awning and stadium seating would we taken care of this week 10/26/16. Never a phone call and a no show. Why? Because she "FORGOT " was her excuse. I am tired of all the nonsense. Customer service does not exist is this store. It's really pretty sad! read more

Last year I purchased a 2009 Coachman RV from Camping world in Syracuse, NY. This has turned out to be very disappointing to say the least. In fact, as it stands now we cannot even safely drive it because of a possible oil pressure issue. There are five other problems but most cannot be worked on without taking the unit somewhere to be looked at. Not easy to do if you have been told not to drive it! My impression at this point is that Camping World just does not have personnel skilled enough to handle serious issues. Because to fairly detail each problem and the responsible source ( Coachman, Camping World, or the Good Sam Platinum extended warrantee) would be a very long post I will make several post's, one per problem. The first issue involves the key for the unit and the trustability of Camping World sales personnel. When I first started the unit I looked at the key and I asked " Is this some kind of special key, If I wanted a spare could I just get one made anywhere"? Oh, it's not special I was told by the salesperson. Hours later, after looking at the unit, being shown all its features, I asked if there was an extra key. I like extra keys for anything I drive. I was told " I am sure there is an extra in the manager's office, we will get that when you pick up the unit". Fastforward to the day we pick up the unit. I ask " where is the extra key". I am told we will ship that to you, it must be out in the shop because we changed the oil" ( per my request ). They however, did not change the oil because when I got home I pulled the dipstick and it was not clean oil. A few weeks later my wife calls Camping World to ask when the extra key is coming because we are planning our first trip. Several seconds of silence followed by "We said we would ship it to you? Let me check on that. " Several days later my wife calls again and was told " We don't have a key for that unit, sorry". So off I go to a local key place to get a spare made. They take one look at it and tell me this is a 'special' key. Only the factory can make these, they have computers in them and have to be programmed with special equipment. Now I am getting worried. My wife calls Camping World for help. Surely someone has needed to replace a lost key and they would at least know the process. She is told " We don't know, try 'Sprinter' or truck places, sorry". She ask's for the original owners name and number so we could call and ask if they have the second key for the unit. They say they cannot give us that information (fair enough) but will contact them for us. After no response for a week she calls back and they say they cannot be reached, sorry. Bottom line, after 3 months of calling various places she finally finds a place in Syracuse that will order, make and program a key. Total cost to us, including driving the unit 150 miles so it can be 'flashed'?? , will be around $385. Camping world tells me they are "sorry". Just to add a bit more insult, while the unit/key was being flashed the technician told my wife the unit was way over-due for inspection. We paid Camping World to inspect the unit when we bought it, along with the promised oil change. Future posts will cover the leak ( will be kind of funny) , the battery problem, the oil pressure issue, the wiring that even a person who wires aircraft for a living is having problems understanding, the extended warranty, and the TV. I will include responses, if any, from Coachman, Camping World and Good Sam. Fortunately I am retiring soon and will have extra time. I have a new computer, (DOS was just not cutting it anymore), my daughter showed me how to 'cut and paste', blogs, and ton's of ways to get questions and responses from other campers who have had problems. I am told by other campers that "sorry" seems to be a popular word with Camping world. read more

My wife and I purchased a camper from this establishment back in May of this year. The sales staff was very nice and eager to help to make the sale. The service on the other hand is horrible, we picked up our camper and moved it to our seasonal site and we noticed the counter top was broke. We are now in the end of September and it still hasn't been fixed, not to mention we noticed other things that needed attention. The line of communication between their service department and their customers is horrible, our camper has been there three weeks now and I have not had one status update on my repairs. I would strongly discourage anyone from buying their due to the fact that their service is horrible. I would encourage you to buy from a local dealer if you have one.I will no longer be dealing with camping world unless it is an absolute necessity and I would strongly encourage anyone else to find another dealership as well. read more

If I could give a negative star rating I would. We went to this location after we had a tire blow out on the thruway. We asked to have two new tires mounted and the valve stem replaced on our spare. We were told it would be 30 minutes to get the tires (they don't stick them) and another 30 to mount them. We were encouraged to renew our good Sam membership as it would save us at least $40. The tires took about 45 minutes to arrive and the associate wouldn't do the paperwork until they were physically there. It took another 20 min or so for TWO associates to get the paperwork all done. They took our camper right it once the paperwork was done and then we waited. And we waited some more. About an hour and a half after they took it in I inquired as to what the delay was. The associate was rather short with me. I was told whoever suggested it would be an hour was wrong, as we were there when the whole place goes to lunch. The whole place? There isn't a rotating schedule? What about me and my family? All our food was in our camper and we had been told it wouldn't be long. She went out and checked on it and came back to assure us it was "almost done." So we waited - another hour. At this point I went back up to the desk and asked another associate what the deal was. He was apologetic, said he would check on it and be right back. He sent the other associate out who was extremely rude this time. She raised her voice to us and yelled at us. At which point I went and got the general manager. He had the audacity to get a stack of work orders and thumb through them in my face, "Do you see these? These are all the work orders from today. We had to move all of these around to fit you in." I was appalled. He then said our camper would be done in 15 minutes. He offered no apology, no compensation, nothing. Our camper was done within the 15 minutes. They charged us $360 dollars. And that good Sam membership renewal - yeah, that cost us $25 and ended up only saving us less than $7! Never again!! I'll pay for roadside service and buy my camper and camping supplies elsewhere!! read more

As a campground owner, I have heard everything negative about Camping World in general. As a result we did not buy our first brand new RV from Camping World. Our RV left a dealership in another state and had some serious issues, one being the automatic leveling jacks, within 24 hours of driving it off the lot en route to the Women's NCAA Final Four in Ohio. One of the jacks was dropping as we traveled down the road & required someone to sit at the control panel to keep forcing an emergency retraction. Eventually that stopped working and a service error code was displayed. We stopped at a rest area and began calling dealerships in Syracuse as we were quickly approaching. Our first contact was April Carter who assessed our issue. It was about 2:00 on the Thursday before Easter and a day before our game. Along with Brian and the wonderful technicians, they brainstormed a way to disable the jack to get us safely on the road without affecting the other jacks. In the end, they removed a jack from one of their identical new units and installed it on ours so we didn't have to wait for a day or two for the part. They worked for almost an hour beyond their closing time and got us safely on our way. The level of service we experienced was above and beyond any thing we expected (we did not buy our RV from this dealership or any Camping World) or have experienced from any business in any industry! My opinion has definitely changed and I will share my experience with all the campers I encounter (and as a campground owner, it's many). I was forced to select at least 1 star... otherwise, I would not have been so generous. I have had two experiences with this store/location and let's just say that I hope you never need to rely on Camping World's service and/or employees in your lifetime. This most recent time, I was in a bind and really needed some help, so I called Camping World and tried to get in touch with the parts and service departments. I left multiple messages and called back trying to get in touch with anyone that could help. I explained my urgency and my forever gratitude if they could help me out. Two weeks later, not only do I not have an answer, I never so much as received a phone call returned. I WILL NEVER give this place a penny of my $$ again. Ever. read more

Last year my wife thought she bought a 2010 Trail-lite R-virsion,from Camping world in Syracuse, NY. After she registired it this year I look at the reg. and it says its a 2009, I checked the paperwork and the sticker ( still on it ) says its a 2010 model, so I called Camping world several times and NO responce ( the usual ) finally I recieved a call back and let the general manager know what was going on and he had a meeting to go to but said he would get back with me, I am still waiting for his call? read more

Tried to purchase a 2016 camper negotiated a price and gave them a deposit only to get a call saying the camper had been sold to someone else. Offered to make it right by selling a year newer camper for an additional $6000.00 . These guys are a bunch of scam artists. read more

I took my 2014 Thor Four Winds which we purchased there back to camping world in Syracuse after using it in Flordia all winter. I was having trouble with the hydraulic jacks and the coach battery wasn't charging going down the road. After having it about 3 weeks I received a call telling me it was done. So my wife and I drove 52 miles to get it. When we got there we went to the camper to try thing out and they didn't work so the tech got in the driver set and tryed it and the jacks would go down. So I told he to wiggle the joy stick and they would start working and he did and they did, he tryed them up and down about 6 times and said there you go. Ofcoarse I was MAD and said NO it not there you go, they didn't work when you set down until you wiggle the joy stick. Then I was told that I may have to wiggle the stick to get it going and I knew that was not true so camping world called Thor and I think they figured it out. The coach battery I was told it would charged going home and it would if thing were working right and they weren't .The battery has a breaker that tripped after calling Thor myself they told me where it was located and I reset it. Also the motorhome need to be NYS inspection in may and it was 4/29 so I told them if it was after may 1st to inspect it and again when I got home it has a new inspection sticker for april. I purchased a 2016 Hideout over the winter. I think we got a fair deal it could always be better, but people have to make money. The warranty started as soon as the first payment and signatures were done. On my first camping trip the roof leaked through the tv antenna. It took two weeks to get someone to deal with this warranty issue. I have my unit on a permanent site and that a problem to start with. They came out about 3 weeks after the original leak and caulked everything up good and no more leak. ( how much damage it caused will not be known for years). About two weeks after that fix, I noticed the toilet was pooling water from under the base of the toilet. I would really like to send it back as a lemon at this point because water damage is the worst thing for a camper. Again it took me 3 weeks before someone would actually get the balls to tell me they would not come and fix it at my site. They did recommend another person to fix, but warranty LOL and good luck. During my numerous calls to them to get help I was transferred to another customer looking to buy. I told him to go someplace else. read more
