By far the best campground I have ever been. Everyone is so nice and welcoming. When I say everyone that isn't just the staff. The seasonals and guests all say hi and wave. Not the typical LGBTQ judging here. Everyone just is about having a good time. The sites are great. They provided an escort to the site upon arrival which I have never had a campground do. We have a travel trailer and the site was perfect. The tent sites are probably the best I have ever seen around especially the ones out in the wooded areas. So much shade. They have rv sites with electric and water, some with full hook up, tent sites, bunk house, and cabins. Something for every camper. We stayed over the 4th of July weekend. The campground had plenty of entertainment and activities. The pool is nice. It does get packed. The camp store has a lot of items including beer. They even deliver wood to your site. Plenty of bathrooms with private and gang showers. The food truck has good food but it does take some time for them to get the food done. This is definitely an opportunity for improvement. We waited an hour once and about 40 minutes another time. We absolutely will go back to Campit. They have such a welcoming and relaxing environment. read more

This place has become a hell hole haunted by the ancient, freak show drag queen. We've been to campit many times over the years but we are all done with their crap. People are friendly, the place isn't bad, but EVERY activity, EVERYWHERE you go is this "Sunny LA" screaming into a microphone. Everyone is at the pool chatting and enjoying the music and this a$$hole just walks around with a mic narrating what she sees and having half a conversation on mic. Even at your campsite you can't escape her yelling into her mic but not saying ANYTHING and certainly is not witty/funny and is a shit performer who's aged out of whatever talent he had. It's been tragic to watch this place go to shit. Who the hell goes camping to see drag, but especially such wretched, busted, haggard, talentless, bush league, pathetic, desperate for attention crap? read more

I have no personal opinions, instead only my experience of being a seasonal at Campit Outdoor Resort for 2 1/2 years. During that time I witnessed the following: 1. I was charged at and yelled at by employees twice. 2. Found discarded hypodermic needles on the trail and by the road. 3. Experienced police, searching my site for a gun owned by a seasonal tenter. 4. Police and ambulances and EMT officers showing up too often. 6. Witnessed increased deferred maintenance of the grounds and improvements. 7. Added seasonal sites with sewer lift stations made out of pickle buckets, that I witnessed overflowing 3 times with raw sewage last season. read more

Well, it's the end of another season for me at Campit, and I thought it was only appropriate that I drop another review for 2018. Campit it pretty awesome. I found myself up here 6 times this past year, and now I'm thinking about becoming a seasonal. Everyone is friendly... the staff, the "regular/seasonal" campers, the weekenders, etc. Weekends are by far busier than the weekdays. I like to come up on Thursday evenings after work and have a chance to get everything setup and relax a bit before everyone gets there on Friday afternoons. A lot of people are from the area, but I also talk to a lot of people who come from Detroit, Chicago and Indianapolis (all about a 2.5-3 hr drive) from Campit. It seemed like Friday nights were the busiest around camp for 2018. Many times I've been up well past my bedtime hanging out by a fire, going for a walk along the nature trail with a new friend, or taking a moonlight swim in the heated pool. Themed weekends also bring in different types of people. The Mardi Gras Celebration is one for the books and a weekend you certainly do not want to miss. I've stayed in one of the Sleeper Cabins every time I've been up there this year. The cabins are cute.. equipped with a mini fridge/freezer, ceiling fan, air conditioner and a bed (bring your own linens or rent from them), the sleeper cabins also have a porch so you can hang out and relax outside if it's raining. read more

We have friends that have a camper at this place and this is their go to getaway on weekends. About three years ago they invited me and Dr. M to join them. I was very reluctant as 1) I hate road trips, 2) I hate being in direct contact with Nature and 3) I am an indoor kitty. But because I love these two guys, I said yes. Three years later, we are back. Is this my ideal vacation spot? No, but even Campit has something to make this indoor kitty's stay very nice. There are various set ups at Campit for staying: tents, campers, really big RVs, small cabins and the deluxe cabin in the woods (me). There are facilities for using the bathroom and showering if you are pulling a he/she man weekend in the woods. There is also a heated pool which I have never been in...too many hairy men and I have a thing about other people's hair on me. But there are deck chairs and you can bring adult beverages and perhaps catch an impromptu water ballet by Bears :-) Overall I would say the environment is very friendly and everyone is very nice. I imagine at times that Dr. M and I are the only straight couple in the joint, but there has never been an indication that it was a problem. We roam around from area to area, sitting by fires and drinking. There is even a super RV call Club 31, I believe. It is a bar and it is lovely. The woman that has taken care of us (Carol) is great and very helpful in helping us set up our reservation, which you do need if you are going to hang out here. And a membership...but no worries, they let everyone in :-) If you are going, you need to plan early as some of the weekends are off the chain crazy and packed (Mardi Gras, 4th July, Wine Dinner). There are small one bedroom cabins with a frig. They look small but are actually comfortable. But of late we have been doing the one bed room cabin with a full kitchen, enclosed porch, living area and bathroom. There are plenty of outlets and a TV entertainment center. The TV doesn't really get any channels, but there is a DVD player if you want to watch movies. For the indoor kitty in me, I have room for bottles of champagne, cheese/pate, can cook if I want, eat next to woods but not worry about bugs...you know, roughing it urban dweller style. There are only two cabins like this and a reservation requires a three night stay, which comes to about $700. For us, it is worth it. Oh I have a golf cart to drive around in while drinking bubbles. This is a nice get away for a weekend and as an official city dweller and indoor kitty, I recommend it. read more

We LOVED Campit! Our first time camping- we rented a cabin with a bathroom, heat, ac and mini fridge. An hour in we were asking about renting a space and buying a camper! Peaceful, welcoming environment. Was chilly when we were there but somehow the pool area was still warm enough. Already booked our 2nd visit for next month. Staff were very friendly especially Mike who I saw cleaning toilets on Sunday morning after Mardi Gras. Grounds had great landscaping. However tented sites were not numbered and were overcrowded. If you like nonstop partying till 330-530am then you Will like this place. I am a swimmer all my life but my eyes stung in the pool. Since the pool has no deep water, everyone can just stand in it and talk. It was like an overcrowded bath with everyone standing in and out of the pool. This is not camping. Having visited several times in the past our recent visit visit didn't quite measure up. Seems like the campsites were dirty. And the junk! Everywhere you look there's a pile of something or another. A wrecked camper, piles of lawn debris, leftover equipment, the dishwashing facility in Westwood felt like somebody's basement, lots of crap. I get it, it's hard for me to throw stuff away too, but out of sight out of mind is a great Axiom. They did keep the restroom facilities clean. While pricey, the campground offers a lot of value for your money compared to other options, if you take advantage of the opportunity. The underlying arrogance of the seasonals hoping to be 'A Listers' in a trailer park is slightly off putting, but Live and Let Live, Babs. read more

9 of us came to get out of the city for a nice weekend at a gay campground! Went the weekend after Memorial Day weekend and it was dead! It was nice though, since we were able to really mingle with everyone and meet new people. Drag show contest with an old drag queen favorite from Detroit, made me smile! Best friends weekend and we won the contest! Amazing! We paid close to 500 for all of us to go tenting. I thought that was a little extreme and high, but we had a great time. The "trail" was an interesting sight to see but it was all fun! All in all, it was a great time. My suggestion would be to maybe charge per person for campsites, but when it comes to tenting... just charge one lot fee, not per person. I will be back sometime, but maybe not with the group since it was a little expensive. Maybe we will rent a cabin on Rodeo drive.... read more

My partner and I was at Campit Resort on cleanup weekend and bought a new 42ft RV. We had a great time, even enjoyed helping cleanup the campground getting ready to close for the season. The staff is always nice and helpful. It was great meeting new people and seeing people that we know. The campground is very clean and has many great things to do. We enjoy the food as well. John and l plan on spending our vacation there and retire in about a year and living in Florida at Thousand Palms Resort in the winter. Michael is the owner of both campgrounds. I spent a pleasant weekend in mid July, 2017. The theme was the Wild West that weekend. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful . The steak dinner was very good and so was the Sunday brunch. They even honored a special diet request for me. The staff was careful with food prep. They all wore gloves and some even masks. The food was left out a certain amount of time and that was it. A queer campground? Hell yea! Came here last weekend to get away from the city. The resort compound is very expansive and the prices are reasonable. We camped, as in with a tent, and just loved being able to hear the wind in the trees. It's so much nicer than the traffic we have to listen to at our place in the city. This place also has a small pool that is quite nice when it's hot out. The people who go here tend to be very nice, approachable, and all around fun. It's also just 10-15 minutes from downtown Saugatuck, so it's really nice to be able to run down there and walk around and then head back from some seclusion. Queer-positive people would be welcome, I'm sure. This is just a fun place to go where you can be as nice or as naughty as you would like - no pressure. There's also a store that seems to sell... everything... you could ever need for outdoor camping - including beer. Just be sure you find out what time they close that evening. The weekend we were there was kind of slow, so they closed the store 2 hours early. Oh well.. read more

I go every year. I have gone to CampIt every year for the last 7 years at least once during the season. It is so wonderful. Each year I find something else new and wonderful to love about this place. I was the first of my group of friends to go and each year more people have joined. This year it looks like there will be around 10 to 12 of us. read more

Just got back from our second weekend stay; had a great time at Volunteer Weekend mulching paths, prepping food and making friends. The sleeper cabins are clean, snug and solid, cozy in 45F overnight temperatures with the little space heater on; ours also had an A/C unit, ceiling light/fan, minifridge, full-length mirror and queen-sized bed. Staff and fellow campers were friendly and everyone seemed to be having fun. See you next year! read more

3rd trip to CampIt and each time gets better. Each time my partner and I have gone we have stayed in a different type of lodging. The first we stayed in Westwood in a tent It was quiet, serene and a true camping experience (with the convenience of modern restrooms about 1/4 mile away) Beautiful! The second time we stayed in the vintage air stream and for my partner it was a blast from the past to childhood vacations. I had never stayed in a camper to that was really fun! This most recent time 7/28/17 we stayed in a cabin (actually the one photographed here). It was clean, comfy bed, convenient to bathrooms, the shop, the pool... everything. The cabins look so tiny but they are the exact right size and the porch is fantastic. One night I spent just seated at the campfire with the dogs and met a dozen people just walking by. What a nice chill environment! We are going to try and get back before the summer is over, even then maybe a trip in the fall to see the fall colors! read more

went here this past weekend with my friend & we couldn't believe how friendly EVERYBODY was!! as soon as we drove into the campground they were so welcoming. our sleeper cabin didn't have a bathroom with it but the bathroom was pretty close by so it wasn't too bad. there's a mini fridge, an AC, a heater, 2 little tables and a queen size bed in the cabin. the pool area is nice too & there's a pretty big deck. there were a lot more guys this past weekend than girl but we still enjoyed ourselves. its always great to be somewhere were you feel comfortable and be yourself. thanks campit!! read more

This campsite is awful. It is horrible for tenting. And I would not try their cabins as well. The management doesn't ensure that campers are satisfied with their paid reserved campsites. I paid $158.00 for a 7 day tent site location on July 4th week and left after 3 days. The grounds are not well maintained or spaced out comfortably. The electric is shared with other camp members and are not convenient to the camp site. My first site had an electric pole in a bush. After requesting a move. My second tent site location electric pole was surrounded by poison ivy. The sites are not marked well. You are left to "figure it out". As stated by the owner. The shower house runs on well water that smells. The pool had so much chlorine in it that it burned my eyes and i smelled like bleach after a dip. The loyal following of campers are cliquey and unfriendly. I said hello to several people who would not return a hello back. I would rather go to a regular family campground than deal with this messy gay unfriendly "campground". I had a better time at the Dunes Resort nearby. I do not recommend at all. read more

We had planned and paid for a 3 night stay. When we first entered our cabin the refrigerator was not working. The outlet it was plugged into did not work. We purchased ice to keep lunch meat and food cold until the mini fridge cooled. No apology from management. We noticed as we used the hot water a horrible sewage like smell. We inquired about possibly getting moved to another cabin several times. Jim repeatedly said he would "check on that" or "talk to someone about it" After our 2nd night we asked to check out a day early because the smell became worse especially from showering. They actually said they don't do refunds but they will give us 1 free night. We paid for 3! And I would think in a cabin with such a smell and no permit issued they would make an exception. Would not recommend. Save your money. Nice hotels by the water in town. A refund would be appropriate since the cabin should not have been rented without an occupancy permit and no steps were taken to remedy the situation during our stay. read more
