    Sweet condolence card

This is a veterinarian that truly cares. I took my cat to Campus Vet vet Clinic in distress. My current vet advised me to put my cat down at an emergency pet hospital after reviewing a video. I thought I'd give it one chance with the new vet. I'm so glad that I did!l We got six additional weeks of life with my feline and I had peace of mind that I had truly tried everything I could for him. Dr. Bess and her team are so compassionate towards the pet and the owner. They always made time to get us in for an appointment, didn't shame us when we declined an expensive alternative and never rushed a conversation. I highly recommend them.

Thank you from Banker, Nadine, and Badan.

*A long overdue review Dr. Pierson was the vet of my three dogs, Badan, Banker, and Nadine, from 2013 to 2022. He's absolutely a compassionate and skillful vet that I truly trust. 1. Knowledge and expertise. I've brought my pups in for a variety of conditions, ranging from minor ailments (e.g., bleeding toe, foxtail) to common issues (e.g. flea/ticks, ear infection, diarrhea), to major conditions (e.g., pancreatitis, heart murmur, maintenance of a neurological condition). Dr. Pierson always provided effective treatment, proper referrals, and patiently answered my questions. I remember how my pup's toe wouldn't heal for a month until he suggested a foot soak with iodine. 2. Care and compassion. Campus Vet and Dr. Pierson were graciously accommodating when my pups needed emergency care. Several times, they went above and beyond to fit us in to see my pup. My pup had a car accident near Campus Vet Clinic. Dr. Pierson saw him right away. They also gave me space and time to say goodbye to my beloved pup. Although nothing could save him at that time, I'm forever grateful for the care and compassion from Dr. Pierson and his team. 3. About fees. I just checked the invoices from my past visits. Their exam fee is $69 and hasn't gone up during the pandemic. (And what else hasn't?!) Radiology (X-ray) with consultation in total is about $150 cheaper than the price I'm paying in a vet hospital (for non-emergency, non-specialist care) in the south bay. Campus Vet gives a 10% discount for seniors and students on Wednesdays. Compared to several vet hospitals I've tried in Berkeley and in the south bay, this is very reasonable considering the quality of care. I also tried a closer (and cheaper) vet clinic in the south bay when I moved here initially, and I truly regret. Trust me: No one would want to save a small amount of money at the cost of their pups' health and their sanity. What I also deeply appreciate about Dr. Pierson and his staff is their authentic love to my pups. Once (or twice) we bumped into Dr. Pierson and his family outside a restaurant in downtown Berkeley, he recognized my pup Banker, looking pleasantly surprised, and patted him. Two technicians at Campus Vet also gave my pups lots of loving pat whenever we ran into them. Thank you so so much, Dr. Pierson. My pups are very lucky to receive care from you.

Penny at Campus Vet. Can't be trusted.

It was such a distressing and unethical experience that no one else should have to go through it. On October 10, 2025, my mom and I brought our 7-year-old Shih Tzu-Yorkie mix, Milo, for a simple fox-tail check because his paw was red and irritated. We were seen by Dr. Kassidy Leon, who immediately insisted on doing a "blind exploratory surgery", cutting his paw open without first recommending an ultrasound or any non-invasive test. Had we known an ultrasound was an option, we never would have agreed to surgery. After the procedure, Dr. Leon said she didn't find anything but sent Milo home bloody, swollen, and in pain, with no antibiotics, no pain meds, and barely any after-care instructions. Within hours, his paw was oozing pus and he was crying from pain. I had to rush him back the next day just to get ointment, and even then, no one took responsibility. A few days later, on October 14, we saw Dr. Tong for an ultrasound, the very test that should have been done first. Dr. Tong found the fox-tail that Dr. Leon had missed during her surgery. This confirmed what I feared: the surgery was completely unnecessary and caused Milo's infection and suffering. To make matters worse, one of the technicians (Jen) yelled at me in front of the entire lobby that same day, calling me "aggressive". Her tone was hostile and unprofessional, I was honestly scared to leave my dog there after that. By this point, Milo's paw was worse than before we came in. He was limping, bleeding, and terrified. We spent over thousands of dollars at this hospital, and it feels like all they cared about was charging for procedures, not helping our dog heal. I have since filed a formal complaint with the California Veterinary Medical Board and am sharing this review so other pet parents don't go through what we did. Please, if your vet here recommends surgery without offering other options first, get a second opinion. You and your pet deserve transparency, compassion, and ethical care. Our dogs can't speak for themselves, but we can.

Even though we completed intake over the phone, we were asked to fill out the same information again on paper, and we weren't seen until ~15 minutes after our scheduled time. We also spent a long time waiting due to a lepto test. We were initially told results could take up to 30 minutes and that the assistant would check with Dr. Holliday to see if we could leave and come back. About 20 minutes later, we were told we only needed to wait 10-15 minutes total--by then, we had already waited most of that time unnecessarily. Follow-up was the most frustrating part. The front desk was responsive through the online portal, but not helpful--they repeatedly said they would "leave a note for the doctor" or were "waiting for the doctor to finalize their notes." We later found out test results were available on Tuesday but weren't released to us until Thursday. For an urgent care visit, this delay felt unacceptable. We requested SOAP notes and lab results on Monday for insurance purposes and had to follow up multiple times to get documentation that should have been readily available. The medical care itself seemed thorough, but the administrative side was lacking. Given the cost (urgent care exam alone was $147), I expected a more efficient and timely process. Overall: kind staff, but poor follow-through and delayed communication. For urgent care, I expected a much greater sense of urgency.

We brought him to PETS Referral Center after our regular veterinary clinic referred him over. They gave us some medication to reduce the chance of his heart developing more blood clots and minimizing further issues. The staff was great with us, even when we forgot to bring the CC we wanted to pay with. Hubby left me in the lobby as "collateral" while Thomas was in the back being taken care of. He had 4 shots due, so I had 2 only of them done (due to cost) and asked if I could come back for the other 2 shots in a couple of months. I was told that was fine. Fast forward 3 months later and I make my appointment, for a vet tech appt. only, to administer the shots. They say fine but call back and ask if I'd like to see the doctor. They said they are in training and mistakingly set me up with a vet tech. I declined needing a doctor's exam and said a vet tech would be fine. They say ok, see you next week. When I show up for my appt, 10 minutes early as requested, I was addressed after 10 minutes and told they were setting things up. 20 minutes later they said they were working on the estimate. 30 minutes later I asked what was going on, politely, and they said, they were almost ready. 45 minutes later I'm told "actually we can't administer the shots without a doctor." This was a totally unacceptable and entirely preventable experience. Even if it's policy (albeit rooted in upselling) to require a doc there for a vaccine, that was not the agreement/what I was told and my time was utterly wasted. I don't blame the personnel there.
