I recently put down my dog so I'm here to write about my experience. The cost was $587 with a visit cost, cremation and urn included. Cheapest around this area. The establishment was clean and welcoming. The receptionist was professional. The exam was quick. They make you leave the room to pay the invoice while they prep the pet. They dont have laminated paper to show you the urns available....they make you go behind the desk and look at their screen and chose while there are people with their pets waiting.... awkward. Then, instead of taking you to a different area away from people and thier pets... they make you sit with them. My emotions seeing pets and owners leave together made me so sad and holding on to tears was so hard. They let you have as much alone time with your pet before they put them down. The process was fast but the vet was kind and nice with his words. They offered for me to stay for a while after. We've been coming to Evergreen ever since we adopted our dog back in 2017, when Dr.Hung was still there. We never really had to come in as much back then, but now that our dog is older, we've been taking him in frequently. We've been taking him in for the past 3 months, due to his skin condition and extreme itching. We've always had a good experience with Dr.Rao and Jonathon. Jonathon has been attending to us the majority of the time that we've brought our dog in. He is very professional, clear in explaining things to us, and makes sure our dog is comfortable. 1. Communication!! 2 . Up charging people for misdiagnosing! Is not a honest way to do business. No accountability there. Reaction was rude and unprofessional. I took my pup there for a well check and to check for an ear infection and "paid" with no problem! Over $100 dollars. The lady Vet ( so she claimed) looked in her ear with tools and said she had no infection, I went home feeling positive. 1 week later called back to express that she was still shaking her head, I was told it's normal. Took my pup to her groomer and a red flag was pointed out about the ears looking infected. I made an urgent appt the next day! My poor pup had an inflamed ear drum in one ear and infection in both I was upset Asked for a comp visit because I had already paid the 1st time. I had to go back and forth only for $5 dollars to be credited. I still paid for another cleaning and the medication! When I made a follow up visit to make sure her ear infection was gone it was a man that came in. That was very rude with his hands crossed, and the first thing he was saying was did you check her for fleas? My dog doesn't have fleas! This was a recheck! For her ears! That turned in to this supposed Vet insulting my intelligence! Oh! Did I mention they attempted to keep my dog's blanket, that I realized later they kept ! And had to go back to collect! Prices might be cheap, so is the service and you get what you pay for! Don't take your dog, cat, rat, or flea to this low budget facility ! The whole process was clear, concise, and streamlined. From the first phone call with Matea and CC to the discharge with Jonathon. And of course in the middle with Dr. Ral (exam and surgery). They have got very professional and patient front staff and nurses. It was Luna's first visit to the vet as we noticed her breathe getting really bad. We got the estimate after the exam (very reasonable for the area) and it was quite the sticker shock. They offered a small discount for dental work and it worked out to be very fair for the amount of time and skill needed for the procedure (18 extractions!) I can tell the entire staff is unbiased for every animal that comes in and treats each of them with the utmost care and respect. I'm glad to have such a great first experience with such a great team and company. Print this and post it because you guys deserve the much needed praise. This place is amazing!! I cannot say that enough! I have been struggling to afford my dogs teeth cleaning, because he needed extractions and to go under. They gave me as much discounts as they could, and my dog loved them! He does not like anyone other than myself holding him, but they were very considerate and careful with him he genuinely trusted them. He even had an accident after the surgery and they washed my blanket for me. I have gone to A LOT of vets and have Mostly had a bad experience with all of them, but the dr definitely cares about his furr patients and so does everyone in the front desk. Took several cats here over the years, reasonable spay and neuter rates. Way too quick to recommend putting a few free roaming cats down, one could have lived easily after a amputation, and even that diagnosis was questionable, another could have been cured of serious skin issues simply by administering ivermectin in it's food for a week or so, but I did not know that then, and they either did not know this of just did not want to tell me. I would go elsewhere. If you live in Richmond I would recommend the more modern practice in Berkeley that is very transparent and professional called modern animal, I have been to every vet in the Richmond, El cerrito area since 1991 and MA has been the best so far. Definitely avoid this vet unless you have no other option. read more

I'm sure the business is going to come on and be like "but but but you weren't nice to us!!" Like okay, you're not wrong. But let me explain the quality of care we received here. When we were waiting before ever even being seen a woman was asking about how to bathe her dog with fleas, after she left the tech told another tech "I hate when they ask me questions, I don't know". Then say "I don't know, let me ask the vet" instead she gave an answer which may or may not have been right but she didn't even know. Vet walks into the room and just immediately goes into to questions (same questions tech just asked so clearly you didn't talk to them, great start), no hello, no asking our names, nothing. Never checks my dogs heart and lungs, barely looks at the issue on his eye (one of the main reasons we came in), doesn't tell me what it might be, man handles him while trying to get a urine sample (I always ask for all testing to be done in the room that can be done, because if this is how they handled him while I was there what would they being doing when I'm not), the tech (who was nice) tries three times unsuccessfully to get blood from his neck (used 3 needles, dug around, my dog yelped), vet walks out of the room while talking to the vet techs without saying anything to me (telling them to ask me what I decide about further testing, doesn't ask ME while I'm in the room), writes me a 6 month prescription with no notice or explanation (usually it's enough refills for a year) and then THEY ARE ANNOYED WITH ME FOR NOT BEING HAPPY! I never received the information I was told I was getting about what to do about his eye, the front desk was annoyed I asked for a printed receipt before paying (ALWAYS ask for receipt from any vet). They never called me with the test results, I called them, they didn't have all of them. The day after I went here, I went to another clinic, they were lovely and went over all the results, told me what they meant, and spent an hour with us. Two days after coming to Evergreen I called to get my dogs 1 year prescription from evergreen (dr here said if his results came back fine he would write a year and since I already paid to have them write it out I was coming to get it. Might have lost only $5 but at this point it's the principle of the matter). When I called the first time, she hung up on me. When I called back pissed off the one male receptionist said "you don't need to use that tone". Like oh you're right, you guys are so bad at your jobs I should be nice to you because clearly that would make a fucking difference! My bad. So sorry about my TONE. I would hate my life if that was my job too, but that's why I don't fucking work there. All of y'all are so bad at your jobs I will be celebrating the day this clinic goes out of business. For reference, I once had a vet who told me that vets just aren't as good as they used to be, they aren't as dedicated anymore, explained he meant women vets aren't good because they want to be home and not working. And even with that, THIS is the worst vet I've ever been too. So come I guess if you want terrible service and a horribly rude vet and want them yo pretend like YOUR the problem. Great clinic, nice staff, fair prices. They took great care of my little dog! I adopted my dog from one of the local shelters in the area back in September 2023 and was concerned that she was coughing a lot for such a young dog, so I took her in. They did an X-ray of her chest and saw she had a diaphragmatic hernia. All her digestive organs had been sitting in her chest for who knows how long! She's only 4 years old but has been in the shelter for almost all of those years, so she had been living this way for a long time. We told them that the shelter told us she may have been hit by a car in the past since she has a little limp on her hind legs, and they said it's possible that if she got hit by a car at a young age, the trauma from the hit could have pushed her organs into her chest cavity. Doctor there said that we could do surgery to help correct it, but it was going to be a really risky one since they would have to open up the chest cavity, but my family wanted to give her the best quality of life so we went ahead. Recovery was pretty scary for a while, but she pulled through, and now she's doing 100x better. She still coughs sometimes, but that's because one of her lungs is smaller than the other cause her organs had been in her chest cavity for so long. She even started gaining weight! She used to be incredibly skinny, and the shelter said that she would constantly be eating but never gain weight, and they had all assumed she had a fast metabolism. Now we know it's because she couldn't get nutrients with her organs stuffed up next to her lungs :( I'm really glad we brought her in, thanks Evergreen! read more

Evergreen Pet Clinic in San Pablo Towne Square is a clean facility that looks brand new, which it probably is since they just changed their location. It is owned by the vet, Dr. Rao, not by a corporation. I brought in my dog Jasper because he is overweight. Dr. Rao did a good examination, and recommended a Hills kibble that addresses weight issues. I had a blood test done including a CBC. It was normal. Dr. Rao called me himself when the results came in and told me it was good. I also received the results by email. Dr. Rao is very professional and courteous, and obviously cared very much about my dog. The receptionist was also very friendly. Dr. Rao is Indian (I think), and he was a little hard to understand, but I just asked him to repeat what I didn't understand and it was no problem. Evergreen is less expensive than elsewhere (VCA, owned by a corporation, wanted twice as much for the same bloodwork). I recommend it, and will be back. My dog Bella'Lynn, is a 3lbs yorkie that fractured two bones in her right leg November 2021- and her cast was off in February 2022. The prices are understandable for the job to be done correctly. It was a pleasure taking my dog here because Dr. Rao explained x-rays and what he is expecting for her recovery. The clinic took great care of our princess, example, when I dropped her off they asked if she ate and how she was doing, and if I had any concerns I was able to connect with the doctor before departing. Each time I arrived staff at the front desk new who we were "Bella'Lynn has arrived!" which made me feel like we were welcomed. The aftercare was explained and easy for us to follow at home, since she was given medication I wanted a follow up appointment for her leg to see about the recovering process. I enjoyed the text message reminder, that was helpful. Suggestion **I'm a calendar person, to help plan out my day. Maybe sending a calendar invites for appointments once scheduled would be highly helpful if available. I see new talent in the office and my mother has token all of our dogs here and I haven't had an issue to make us not stay here. I see things changing in a better direction, and see staff if very understandable. Example, We had a little hiccup with the casting being too big for her leg, where she wasn't able to walk or anything and it even came off but they fixed it when I gave a call the next day with no problem. In addition to that, I wasn't aware of the fee and couldn't spend the amount and had the opportunity to come back the next day to complete the payment. I do highly recommend coming here because they care for pets and with everything in the United States it will be expensive for good care but please be understanding that the staff here is caring for our loved ones. I know it takes me a moment to FULLY understand things, and I appreciate doctor taking his time out to explain things and answer my question I have regarding the care of our family member. Two stars for Dr. Raj's efficiency and listing the "optional" prices on the estimate & explaining why they're optional for my cat. 0 stars for wrong scheduling, twice! My dog would be up here for only one day for a funeral & I would be dog sitting - so a very small window of availability. After confirming the day & had to be first thing in the morning, I received a text message reminder for the wrong day. I called and spoke to the same woman who originally scheduled the appointment (she happened to be the vet assistant who took the initial vitals for my cat) and she repeated the date & time. Again, the text message reminder was now for the wrong time and when I arrived, it was pushed back to another hour. If not for having to receive her updated shots, I would've cancelled and went somewhere else. Dr. Raj is nice, but he will lose customers because of the front office staff inefficiency. The front desk is your first impression and it was definitely friendlier & more efficient when the previous owner Dr. Hung was there, the staff even calling one week later to check that my dog was doing well post-op. I thought Dr. Connie was memorably kind and caring. Dr. Connie said that my cat was there, "by the grace of God." I went to evergreen when I first got my dog. at first everything started out fine until they miscommunicated something that they were supposed to tell me over the phone .. then blamed me for the lack of information that was given to me from , their employees. I've been trying to get my dogs vaccination records for about a year now and they seem to never give them to me every time I ask ever green to to send me my dogs vaccinations records have an issue, . The first time I called asking for my dogs records was 10/17/23 someone over the phone said that it would be sent to my email in the next hour , so I waited for about an hour and received nothing , I called evergreen pet clinic back to ask them if anyone was going to send over my documents that I asked for and they said someone was , I waited and waited and still no one sent my documents. I finally called back for the 3rd time and that's when the employee Jonathan responded to me and said someone would be sending my records he just didn't know when , I continue to be patient and I still receive nothing from them On 1-17-24 I called them asking if they could give me my records Since I still hadn't received the ones I asked for in 2023 they said they would Still never received them , Jonathan that works in the front desk is very rude and constantly hangs up in my face when I call , and so ironic that I always get transferred to him when I call . The ladies working there are also extremely disrespectful as well over the phone they all hang up in my face I wish there was a supervisor on site to help customers with situations like this ! They are unorganized and it's sad I have to constantly go through this when all I want is my dogs vaccination records so that I don't have to ask them for anything else I hope a manager can see this and some how just help me get my records thank you read more

I have been coming here for years now and continue to receive excellent service. I brought my cat Ash to this clinic after getting into a nasty cat fight in the beginning of the year. Dr. Rao and his friendly staff took my son in and was doing a lot bette afterwards. Ash did, however, got into his sutures and ripped some of them out. She had her teeth cleaned and an extraction. He ended up putting in her records that her dental issues were pre-existing and now I can't get her dental covered by any pet insurance company. What a piece of work!!! When I went to pick her up she was so upset that we couldn't get her out of the cage. That is not like my cat. They did something to her. I don't know how to start of writing this, my dog Chico is a chihuahua mix weighing around 6lbs. One day, it wasn't until early morning that I noticed he was acting strange. Chico did not want to be held and yelped every time someone would try grabbing him, or even touch him. Next day I set up an appointment with VCA vet hospital, I would like to add that Chico is reactive towards strangers. The vet at VCA couldn't really get a good hold of Chico since he was moving a lot and went off from the information I provided. I was given the medicine Metacam and was told to give 5-10 days and see if he gets better. Unfortunately, I noticed that he did improve for 2-3 days until he went back to the yelping and not really even being himself. I decided to take him to another vet which is why I came to Evergreen clinic. I was able to get an appointment the same day I called in which was great. Once we arrived, Chico again, didn't want to be held, but the thing is I liked how Dr. Rao still tried to be gentle with Chico so he can examine him. Dr. Rao asked many questions about how Chico while I was there. He then advised an X-ray and some blood work done, I knew it'd be pricey but I'm willing to give anything for my dog. Everything came out to $600 including anesthesia, x-ray, blood, work, both medications, and the wellness exam! At VCA I almost paid $200 for only a medication and exam. I was then told I can pick up Chico in the afternoon and they'd give me a call. Once arrived, Dr. Rao went over all his blood work results and x-rays, he told me everything looked fine other than Chicos bone leg structure but he added that he does not know whether it is genetic or he developed overtime. He advised me that I should give Chico Gabapentin and an anti-inflammatory for two weeks and a follow up after the next. He suspected that it was something with his joints. I suspected as well only as Chico is very small and likes to jump off the furniture even after telling him now. But I can say now that Chico so far looks better than ever. He is back to the same old Chico I know always running around, playing around the house, being right at the door once someone comes in. I am so happy to see the kind of progress Chico has done thanks to the evaluation of Dr. Rao. I look forward to coming here from now on for Chicos medical needs :)! We were recommended by a neighbor to bring a stray cat into this clinic. Hoping she might get better and survive we did ask for blood work to be done. They also gave the cat a dewormer as well as flea meds and shaved her severely matted hair and gave her fluids subcutaneously (which was recommended). Unfortunately, she was just getting worse and two days later we had to put her down as she was obviously suffering. Our vet at advanced medical clinic told us to survive, she would need to stay in the hospital for at least five days but he could not guarantee that she would live. He said she only had about a 10% chance - since she was so malnourished and dehydrated. I really appreciated his understanding demeanor, and his honesty with us. Very upsetting - that the vet at Evergreen never mentioned kidney problem that showed in the bloodwork he said it "could just be anemia from the fleas". He should've just put her down to end her suffering, but instead she suffered for two more days - we were charged $500. I would not recommend this veterinary. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I took my dog there for a couple of years. This last visit was a total nightmare. I went back to this vet to see Dr. Rao 2 times in less than a week. First visit was because my dog has some back issues and was just "out of it". They just focused on her back pain and threw meds at it. She wasn't improving so I went back a couple days later. Still said she had back issues and that she needed iv fluids administered under her skin and an appetite inducer to help her eat. She did not improve. I ended up taking her to another vet for a second opinion, they took ONE X-ray and did their own blood panel to let me know that she had tumors on her spleen. Dr. Rao who did his own X-ray and blood panel never caught it, only said that there was a mass and to keep an eye on it. He also wanted me to make another appointment to come back in a month..... Unfortunately, my little girl did cross the rainbow bridge. However if I would have waited and not follow my gut, I would just be pumping her full of medicine with no relief and answers!!! There is a vet tech with curly hair that gives off a feeling that he would want to be anywhere else but there, no compassion, no empathy. Dr. Rao just pushes meds and takes your money. If you're looking for cheap vet, here's your answer. I'd only use this place for basic vaccines. If you're looking for quality care, professional staff and a vet that addresses your concerns- GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Dr. Rao (I think this is his name, was not polite enough to introduce himself) was dismissive over my concern about my dogs broken teeth and shoved his finger in her eye while grabbing her face to look at her them. She is extremely calm and gentle. There was NO need to grab her so aggressively. Charged $60 to be given an invoice and no other information about how they operate their dental procedures. Was denied my dog any pain medicine until the operation could be done because "she doesn't seem in pain." He was in the room maybe 2 minutes. She is a rescue that has always hid her discomfort. How would you even know? While you may save a few bucks, be CAUTIOUS OF people with such lack of concern. If he treats your dog like that when you're right there, I would NEVER trust this place to put her under anesthesia. BE WARNED! Many other vets that are caring, kind and affordable. I wish I hadn't wasted my time or money here. read more

I can't say enough good things about this clinic. From the staff at the front desk to the Dr. my German shepherd is very clumsy and is always getting injured . Shes very accident prone. Every time I take her , which is atleast twice a year LOL . This Monday I took her in because she was limping on one of her legs, we get to evergreen and right away they find the nail that was stuck deep in her paw. Visited this vet for 3rd time . 1st experience who good for my older dog. Then it went down hill. Took in a small puppy that really needed to be checked out and the vet doctor did not completely tell me what was going on with my pup. A few days later we ended up at Berkeley emergency and they told us that pup had ringworm which we just took him to evergreen vet. So they explained that he need to be seen by his regular vet to get ringworm medicine. So here we go again to evergreen and the vet didn't even remember us and I mentioned you just seen us a few days ago. All in all - I am never going back. They seem off and do t really k ow what there doing. Come to find out from another person who checked out the pup also has respiratory issue and a slight cold. I brought my dog in on time for our appointment and after sitting in the main lobby for 20 minutes was shown to an exam room. After another 20 minutes a tattooed young woman, I use this description rather than a name as the staff refused to provide any, came in and said put your dog on the table and was he neutered. Since this was the 4th time I'd been asked if he was neutered I asked why we this kept getting brought up. She appeared angry or flustered and said it was something they needed to know. She rapidly departed and said the doctor would be in, I'm not sure she even said hello. We waited for another 20 minutes, so an hour at this point, for the doctor to arrive. He walked in and without introducing himself or even saying hello directed me to put my dog on the table. After a 1-2 minute examination he left and said someone would be in to talk about the cost. The doctor spoke quickly and with an accent, and I was not able to understand most of what he said. I asked him to repeat himself and he was still too difficult to understand. The same woman returned and in a VERY loud voice started to detail the proposed costs. I did not want to proceed with anything at the clinic and said I would just pay for the exam and leave, but told her it seemed like the doctor didn't listen to me and it felt very impersonal. She told me I was rude and walked out. When I went to the main lobby to pay I mentioned to the front desk clerk that I was surprised that the doctor was so abrupt and almost rude, most veterinarians are much more personable. A different woman, who I previously had no interactions with, yelled from across the room that I wasn't allowed to criticize the doctor and that I was the rude one but that I should have a BLESSED DAY. Given my lack of interactions with her I'm left to surmise that the tattooed woman spent time detailing my interaction with her while I sat waiting rather than actually working. I continued with my transaction and she returned from the back and unprompted said again I HOPE YOU HAVE A BLESSED DAY. The way she said it made me sure she actually meant the exact opposite, and was remarkably unprofessional given the other customers in the lobby. She was loud enough to inturrupt their transactions. I'm not sure why both of them chose to manifest such a low standard of customer service, but given the doctor's demeanor and conduct it seems they are just following the example he's setting. In the strongest terms possible I would recommend to avoid this clinic, I left feeling very upset and confused as to why they were so unpleasant. I am also still in need of an actual examination for my dog. read more
