I was certain I'd have nothing but a stellar experience - so much so that I booked a 90 min deep tissue massage for my first time (normally I book 60 min when first trying out someplace as a precautionary measure). Taralai is no doubt on the "pricier" side for a no frills Thai massage ($140 for 90 min), but I was happy to pay a fair price for an exceptional massage. I don't want to name shame my masseuse but I booked with a gal that is repeatedly mentioned in reviews. Super sweet but has no intuition and flow. My massage felt mechanical and awkward - cracking my fingers and toes for example to fill time. She also took an unusually long bathroom break mid massage and I was already not enjoying it so I almost cut it off early. I also asked for no stretching yet she proceeds to put me in uncomfortable positions I eventually had to stop her. Also, I was flabbergasted at the end when paying that the suggested tip is in the range of 40%-60% of the massage. Perhaps if "happy endings" are offered this would only then make sense. I always tip 20% on a standard priced massage so I had to create a custom tip to do so. I have had many massages and this has to be one of the worst experiences I've ever had.

I noted what the time was on the little clock on the table. As I waited for the Therapist to come back into the room, the phone was ringing and conversations were loud. The walls were thin! I was not able to tune out the noise. I kept waiting and waiting for for the therapist to return to start my massage. I looked at the clock again. 15 minutes had gone by and I was still waiting. She finally came into the room and told me she had made an energy drink. Didn't know what I was supposed to say.......My massage started 20 minutes late!!! I thought to myself, no worries, she'll add the time lost onto the back end. We didn't get off to a good start.......another 15 minutes went by and I was starting to finally relax but realized the therapist was working on me with one hand/one arm because she was drinking her energy drink with the other had. And, the phone rang again and again. I could hear the man's voice that answered the calls. He was not quiet. I was getting more frustrated and angry. I stopped the massage and asked for another room. The therapist left the room and asked if another room was available and it was! So, I got up from the table, wrapped the sheet around me and was led to another room to continue my massage. Finally, it was quiet and I got back into the massage. But, the therapist intermittently started to drink her drink and didn't use both hands/arms again. When she finally did, her hand was ice cold from holding her drink in her hand. I guess she finished her drink because for the remainder of the massage, she did a good job. However, she ended the massage at 70 minutes (according to the clock in the room) when I paid for 90 minutes. This was a very bad experience! I won't return! Plus they should have disclosed a 4% credit card fee on their website. If you choose to have a massage at Taralai, make sure they don't put you in the room next to the reception area and make sure you get the massage time you pay for! Word of mouth is everything and I will not recommend this business. I've been a customer for many years in the old and new locations. Shame on them!!

Very disappointing experience…read more I was really looking forward to this appointment, especially as a busy mom who does not get much time to carve out for myself, but unfortunately this was one of the worst massage experiences I have ever had. My massage therapist walked in through the front door five minutes after my appointment start time, already putting things off on the wrong foot. During the massage, she asked if I wanted more pressure and I said yes, but the massage remained extremely weak and half-hearted, often using only one hand. I began to suspect she was distracted or not fully present. Eventually, I could not ignore the feeling anymore. I told her I needed to use the restroom, got up, and when I checked, she was on her phone actively watching something and she tried hiding her phone under the sheet. At that point, I walked out without finishing the service. I was so uncomfortable and unhappy that I could not take another minute. While the front desk receptionist was kind, she was having an open conversation with another massage therapist, loudly discussing her neighbor and calling him a redneck, which felt highly unprofessional and inappropriate for a spa environment. To make matters worse, the bathroom felt neglected. The faucet handle did not work properly, and there was a half used open water bottle with no cap sitting on the shelf, which was unsettling and unsanitary. As I was leaving, she told me that management would call me to follow up, but I never received a call. Overall, the space did not feel relaxing, calming, or professional. I left feeling frustrated and upset that my time and money were wasted. It is incredibly disappointing when you finally make time for self care and are met with such poor service and lack of respect for the client experience. I truly hope management addresses these issues, because this was not acceptable.

One day I was in unusual pain and I did a quick search for masseurs in my area. It was 5pm and I was able to book my appointment for a 6pm appointment that same day. Amazing! Sea Breeze Massage is located inside Salon Suites , near FedEx in RSM. When you walk in, you'll see a bunch of singular offices. Just walk straight and she's on the right side. Her door will be open and there will be a sign as well. Free parking is available in the shared lot. I told Kanlaya that I wanted medium pressure, and for the entire hour, the pressure was absolutely perfect. I got the Swedish massage for 1 hour and it cost $95, which is on par with other masseurs. Kanlaya is small, but mighty! She knows how to get into every nook and cranny and smooth out all of my knots. I felt so much better and completely relaxed after my session. Not only is Kanlaya an experienced masseur, but she is also very calm, sweet and kind. She welcomed me with her warm smile and only spoke when I asked her questions. Many masseurs talk to you throughout the session, but she created a very calm and relaxing environment. I can't tell you how excited I am to have found her. She will be my go-to masseur moving forward!

I told her where I had issues, one being my neck which wasn't focused on at all, and the little work I did get my neck now feels worse. For context, I'm not a whimp, I love a deep tissue massage and have had 100's of Thai massages...this was just painful with no form of relaxation at all. One thing I really appreciate is that when you book a 90-minute massage, you actually receive the full 90 minutes, which isn't always the case elsewhere. The therapists are highly skilled, and my therapist, Paris, is outstanding. They also maintain a professional environment and make it clear that inappropriate behavior is not tolerated. His skill, attention to detail and professionalism allowed me to relax and benefit from his massage and techniques. He does side line, a technique, which no therapist had ever done on me, which allows him to target the neck to shoulder area. He quickly adapts his Massage to focus on areas that really need attention. Needless to say he quickly became quite popular and would book out a month in advance at the spa.
