BAD COVID PROTECTIONS and Poor massage technique. I used to love this place, but I think ownership changed. The masseuses were previously the best I had, but I think they've filled open roles with the first available people and not skilled masseuses. My masseuse gave the type of massage I'd expect at a $20 massage place - based on her massage style, I'd assume she used to work at one of those places. My spouse's masseuse was coughing and grumped when asked to wear a mask. If you're coughing, you should NOT be providing a service. I was irritated when I found this out, and told my spouse we should have left. I had to schedule a massage elsewhere since no knots were worked out. Total waste of money. read more

I decided to take a staycation an hour from home just to decompress. While in Dana Point, I found Bodycentre Spa. I booked a 2 hour full body massage and a body scrub and wrap. Wow!! This place was amazing!!! My technician Dasha made me feel so comfortable throughout both services. She took her time, had such a relaxing vibe to her and was easy to talk to. The services were wonderful!! I highly recommend Bodycentre if you're looking for a spa day. Sherri at the front desk is so welcoming and helpful. I am very impressed with the service I received from the front office and Emily (Ortho-Bionomy Technician, Reiki Practitioner). I called for a same day appointment hoping they would have an appointment available, with the short notice they accommodated my needs and went above my expectations by making it work. Emily is very professional and it shows she knows what she is doing when it comes to knowing people's body's and needs. I didn't give her any special instructions of what I wanted in a massage and she somehow knew exactly what my body needed. I left feeling super relaxed and can't wait for my next appointment. My wife, then girl friend, introduced me to Sherry, who works as a massage therapist at the Dana Point Bodycentre. I was never big on massages before getting one from Sherry. I got them a couple of times before going to Sherry, but my expectation was that the massage feels pretty good, and I feel a little refreshed afterward. Boy was I wrong. After getting a massage from Sherry, I realized that the "massages" I was getting were just rub downs with oil; not too useful if you really have muscle/skeletal problems. Everyone should get a massage from Sherry at least once. She will be able to help you deal with problems that you may have never attributed to muscle problems. If you go once, you will see what I mean, and you will not go to anybody else after that for massages. Sherry's massages are truly therapeutic, in that she pin points trouble spots, and she knows exactly what to do to cure them. I have had back problems, shoulder stiffness, neck stiffness, arm stiffness, sore legs, etc. I even had a rib that was displaced, which she detected and told me to go to the chiropractor to get it popped back in. Sherry's knowledge of muscle/bone relationships in the human body just blows me away. She doesn't waste time rubbing you down with oil. That's for tourists. Everything she does to you or have you do has a purpose that leads to a cure. You can literally feel the muscles starting to melt away where there was total stiffness before. Another thing to note is that after my first session with Sherry, I had the best sleep in a very long while. I was told that this is due to better blood circulation as a result of the massage. I am pretty sure that after the massage, I had blood flow in parts of the body that hadn't had blood flow in years, maybe even over ten years. Again, I think this result is attributed to Sherry's skill and knowledge. She really knows what she's doing. Sherry is also very patient and helpful, and she takes time to ask questions to diagnose cause, and fixes them. She also takes time to explain how you can avoid having the same problem pop up in the future. I worry about the day that Sherry will no longer be giving massages, for whatever reason. I am pretty sure I will not be able to find anyone that is going to be able to fill her shoes. There are plenty of places that play soft music and give you a rub down with scented oil, but there is only one Sherry, and seriously, there is no one that can replace her. Needless to say, Sherry is highly recommended. Be sure you call in to make an appointment because she gets booked up pretty fast. read more

Exactly what N.S. said ! I've been going to Bodycentre in other OC locations for over 10 years and I've always loved what they are about . I always experienced skilled therapists who were trained and certified for deep tissue massages . I came to this location expecting the same standard but was highly disappointed. After telling the receptionist that I wanted a 90 minute deep tissue massage , the gal raved about Anne. I received nothing more than the same type of massage that I could have gotten for $20 in Westminster --which I'm a fan of bc being of Asian descent , I know their methodology and love paying what it is worth . After thoroughly expressing to my masseuse,Anne , that I did not want the entire massage done with elbows and forearms, and prefer the true method of deep tissue which takes someone skilled in physiology and the anatomy using hand manipulation . She did not listen to my request --as everyone is different-- but she insisted her way. I've never experienced that before ! Most skilled therapists listen to the needs of their client and customize as such . I then shorten massage to 60 mins bc I just did not enjoy it. I expressed my concerns w the front desk and she just dismissed it as "Anne uses her own method". Deep tissue massage is a science and takes a skilled therapist . I was super disappointed and unhappy that I had to pay $79. Most professional establishments would have offered something to unhappy customers to rectify the situation. Not a penny was offered and there was no acknowledgement of this customer's concern. Too bad . One customer lost for sure. read more

Nobody wears masks here. I understand that there is a risk to be had when getting a massage- but I definitely expected more. The massage therapist asked if I felt more comfortable if she wore a mask, and after I said yes, she closed the door and continued to talk shit about it while I could hear loud and clear. The massage therapist told me to not live my life in fear and seemed annoyed to wear a mask during my massage. The massage itself was nice but it was hard to relax after her extreme rudeness and continued chit chat during the massage. read more

I just had a massage with Movita and she was a miracle. It's hard to find a masseuse who really understands the body and is willing to do the hard work. Movita is another story - a blessing. I went in on Sunday with major shoulder muscle pain thinking I've torn something or have rotator cuff issues and Movita has started my healing process. After explaining how I was sleeping with my arm over my head, she indicated my muscles are tight and causing the pain. I mean pain! She spent 1.5 hours working my shoulders, arms, forearms, and back and it's the first time in a good month, I am feeling better. Don't get me wrong - she pounded on me! This week after suffering with a flare up, my bestest sent (via email) a gift certificate for the Bodycentre. Honestly, I couldn't have used that thing any sooner, I got in right away. Nita gave me a 2-hour Thai Massage that popped and untied some nasty knots out of my back, shoulders, and neck. Don't let her size fool you, this little sparrow packs a powerful punch. Super intuitive, knowing when to increase the intensity and when to ease up. Seriously good medicine. I'll be going again next week because darnit, it took a long time for my back to get this bad and it's gonna take a long time to get it right. read more

This place is great! While it is not fancy - at all - actually it is very, very, very plain, BUT it is the best massage I've ever had. I always try to see Yan. She is amazing. Her fingers are like diving rods. She can sense where the pain is in your body, even if you didn't realize you had pain in that part of your body! And she has a way of using firm pressure that doesn't actually feel firm. She does this thing where she puts her elbow in my glute - same thing my chiropractor does - and I can tell she's using just as much pressure as my chiropractor does but somehow it doesn't hurt quite as badly as when my chiro does it : ) If I could afford to see Yan every week I would be there for sure. I've had massages by at least two of the other therapists there as well over the years (including Ken) and they were both really good as well. But my top choice is Yan. Do not expect a lush day spa in a beautiful building with, oxygen rich plants, soft mood lighting, comfortable sofas and chairs, a cozy fireplace, pristine locker rooms, hot Cabana Boy, etc. The ambiance is rather plain. Nonetheless, the therapists are creme de la creme - top notch! Yan Yin (a.k.a., Emily to clients) is the BEST masseuse ever to lay hands on my birthday suit. Her technique flows between Swedish, Shiatsu, Deep Tissue, Cranial Therapy, Thai massage and Ortho-Bionomy. While most body workers "save" their thumbs offering elbows and palms, Emily used deep thumb kneading in stiff knotted muscles of my tight back. In a gentle, circular motion - with the palm of her hand - she applied Ortho-Bionomy to my sacrum and L1 (lower back) area. Instantly I felt energy flow deep within the region, the whole area released tension and deep relaxation occurred. Fact: Body workers hired at Montage Resort, Burke Williams and the Ritz also work at the Body Centre - their technique is superb despite humble surroundings in the commercial center of Dana Point. I took my teenage daughter here last Friday afternoon for a massage after a very hectic week. My daughter's therapist told her she "was too muscular" and had "man shoulders". She said Jill, her therapist, talked the entire time throughout the 1.5 hour service. My daughter has been struggling with her weight for the past 2 years, and really didn't need a massage therapist criticizing her body while she was trying to relax and unwind. My husband & I have been clients here on and off for the past 8 years. We will not be returning-ever.
