I was really looking forward to visiting this place with 4.5star on yelp. My husband and I had a bit of hard time to find as we got lost on our scooter and the entrance of Can Cisa had a different name on it for some reason. I believe it said "Bar Brutal" and so did the menu. So I wasn't even sure if it was Can Cisa until I looked at the pictures on yelp. The food is great. No doubt about it. However the service was questionable. It took really long time until we were able to order for one. Then we were waiting another 20 min to get our bill....we finally decided to get up from our table and went up to the waitress to pay. Then she told us to wait at our table. One minus star.... I accidentally left my purse and walked out of the restaurant. But fortunately I noticed a minute later and walked back into the restaurant. The waitress we had saw me, took out my purse behind the bar counter and handed to me. I know it is my fault to leave my personal belongings, however I was standing right in front of the restaurant so she could have just followed me and gave it back to me. Instead she hoped that I wouldn't come back and she could keep my cash and credit cards??? I know it is Spain and all but this place is not cheap and has 4.5 star....something like this shouldn't happen. So for that, another star has to be taken off. read more

You cannot get a table here without a reservation. Unfortunately, the food and wine were underwhelming and overpriced. This is a millennial hipster trap. You can get so much good food and wine in Barcelona for a much better deal. We ordered three dishes, one featuring crab, one lamb, and a veggie dish. The ingredients were certainly fresh, but very lackluster and simply prepared. Felt like they lacked a maturity of depth and preparation. For instance the veggie dish was just a medium-sized piece of grilled broccoli, some kale leaves, and a green sauce. The lamb was tender, but bland. Crab -- bland. There was no caramelization, not enough textures/flavors. Bread cost an extra 2.20 Euro. read more

Amazing & extensive wine variety. We had a table of 9 in the wine room and it was an amazing experience. We tried everything from Cava, Pinot, Cabs, to so much more I can't remember ...Which is a great testament to our delight in the variety and suggestions. I cannot recommend this place enough. We wandered in on the advice of our hotel at 11pm on a Saturday night, and it was absolutely packed. We had made the mistake of not making a reservation, but we got very lucky and a waiter squeezed us in in the corner after 20 mins, but first making sure we got some wine while we waited. Despite the place being absolutely hectic, our waiter made sure we had all the time we needed with him, checking to see how we were getting on with each glass of wine, would we like the same again or to try a different one and explained the flavours in each bottle. Everything sounded so good on the menu that we decided to let him choose some tapas for us, and were delighted we did so. The sardines with apple salsa was amazing, and I think our favourite was the salmon with a creamy italian cheese, I can't remember the exact. And order the cheesecake, you won't regret it! The bill came to 60 euro for 4 decent sized tapas, 5 glasses of wine, olives, bread and a slice of cheesecake for 2 people, which was very much worth it. read more

This is a copy of my review of Bar Brutal, at the same location. Fantastic place with a short selection of simple yet very tasty food. From dried meats and tuna, smoked sardines, cheese selection and a daily special (bacalao with mashed potatoes the day we were there), the food is great! They also have an extensive wine collection. The large communal table in the front is surrounded by wine bottles. They have 2 bars and the first one looks fantastic. The only issue from my perspective, was the limited selection which made it more difficult to satisfy my children's "fragile" palate. A place to go! read more

A-mazing!!!! Hands down the best place in town! It was so good that we had to come a second time! The staff is so nice and they really take the time to describe each bottle of wine. But even more impressive than their natural wine - which is apparently a step up from organic - is the food! We had smoked tuna, olives, autumn salad, smoked sardines, roasted pumpkin, steamed mussels and clams, and burrata cheese with tomatoes and basil. Everything was divine!!!! Interestingly the vegetarian dishes were my favorites. If you have to pick one thing on the menu, I recommend the buratta! It melts in your mouth! We ate it so fast that I forgot to take a photo. A close second was the roasted pumpkin. The place itself is very casual and has a hip atmosphere. But you must make a reservation if you want to have dinner there. You won't need one for lunch. Don't get the appeal as it's just full of tourists who are willing to pay these crazy expensive prices. Staff are uber annoying, disorganized, and arrogant. I guess this just keeps getting written up because they probably pay for advertising and everything else has already been covered to death in Barcelona. Found this small hole in the wall by luck. So we didn't have reservations l waitress let us sit at the Bar. We didn't know what to order. Our server Borja was awesome told him the kind of Wine we wanted. Picked out a nice white. We ordered a few tapas and he had them for us within 5minutes. We weren't planning on ordering Desert but Borja started telling us and they sounded great. When we return to Barcelona. We are totally coming back here. Came here for their wine selection which is amazing. Found it more expensive than other natural wine bars and restaurants in Barcelona. Food was really disappointing. We ordered sweetbreads which were soaked in fish sauce and heavily seasoned, still probabaly the best of all the dishes Mushroom with bottarga was terrible. Whole button mushrooms uncooked nothing with a brown goopy sauce and a little bit of bottarga. 16 euros Worst of all was the plate of the day. The waiter told us the plate of the day was razor clams for 24 euros. We ordered this thinking it would be fresh razor clams. It was a canned razor clam dish. Strange for a special of the day. I love conservas but these were of poor quality and doesn't make any sense for a special. 4/5 for wine 0/5 for food read more

Had an amazing experience here. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The tapas were divine - we had the cured beef, porchetta and eggplant. The cured beef just melts in your mouth. The porchetta was served with fig jam and 2 slices of bread underneath, soaking up the sweet and salty juices from the porchetta and the fig jam. The eggplant was paired with a mint purée, which made it very refreshing. The olive bread was delicious as well. This place is tucked away in a small alley near Picasso museum. read more

The other reviews are spot on..I don't know much about wine, especially Spanish wine, and the owner was really, really helpful, explained everything to us, where the wines came from, what you should drink them with, how they compared to other wines in the same price range, etc. She even travel wrapped them in cardboard for us. Great service, A-MAZING tapas, and a fantastic wine sommelier. Over the few times we came we always saw lots of hugging and cheek-kissing between patrons and staff. The servers KNOW their customers which only means this is a great place. First stop, just for wine after a late night out. It was packed, but the server found us a small spot at the bar. A very funny, high-spirited Italian lady (who we later found out was the wine sommelier) asked us what we liked. The boyfriend & I are a bit snob-ish about wine, but with just a few descriptors she produced 2 absolutely *perfect* wines for both of us. Second stop, we brought our chef friend for dinner. Again, the place was packed and we were initially told to wait. But very quickly a server found a few places for us at the bar. There the bartender(?) gave us fantastic personal service and brought out some of the best tapas we had in our 2 week trip. The fatty tuna was mind-blowing and the razor clams were only beat by Cal Pep. We also had great wine (again from the resident sommelier) and got a fantastic recommendation for a paella place on the beach. Third stop, dinner on our last night. As always, the place was packed, but magically the servers were able to get us a table. We ordered a few different tapas that were equally as good and again, another wine that was perfect. Food and presentation is below average and it was very pricey. Maillet Chautagne: taste like apple juice with alka seltzer and soda water. This is their sparkling cava? Horrible! $5.5€ P Crues vino tinto: this is their best red wine by the glass and it taste like vinegar! $5.9€ Escoda wine 2007: good for its vintage $24.60€ Burratta Huerta: I could've bought this back home at whole foods market. It's just burratta and tomatoes seasoned with salt. $10.50€ Emperador Ahumado: Thinly sliced salted fish with pomegranate and grapefruit. It was not satisfying. $16€ Zamburinas: 6 itsy bitsy scallops the size of the nail bed of my thumb. Salty and sandy! $8.50€ Cogollos: grilled romaine lettuce... Tasty? Nope! You should pass on this. $5.50€ And of course, Pan. 6 slices of baguette $2€ Overall experience, we left hungry and upset. The following day I had a big rash on my arm! Excellent wine list, and great decor. Unluckily for us, we came at that odd time of day - 5pm, when the kitchen was closed and all we could order were a few appetizers. If the appetizers are any indication of the quality of the real food, then this place is truly fantastic. I totally devoured the duck rillette (sp?), and the choices of wine by the glass were of excellent quality, and under 5euros a glass. My friend had the porchetta sandwich, which he loved, but thought was rather pricey at about 13 euros. I would gladly return for dinner one day, because I was eyeing a couple of main dishes on the menu. The duck sounded great. I have a thing for duck lately. Can Cisa - Brutal bar is located in the most central area of Barcelona, in the streets which makes the link between El Born area and Barri Gotic area, in Carer de la Princessa (Princess street). If you don't know the place, you won't probably guess the treasures you can find inside if you judge the book by the cover, the front door. But believe me, if you are a wine lover that's the place you must pay a visit during your Barcelona trip. Brutal Bar is a tapas and wine bars and proposes also wome tasty cooked meals but hit the charts in my heart for two main reasons : The owner, Nuria, is a wine lover. And when I mean lover the word is not too strong. She travels around the world to visit producers when she hears about a really good wine made with love. She knows each of the wines she sells and most time has personally met the wine producer. She'll be able to provide you extensive information about the wine she will propose you, and to choose the good wine by the hundreds in the wine menu, you should definitely trust her advices. The second reason is that in this place you will drink only natural wines. It means no sulfites added, no chemical and minimum technological intervetnion. For people used to drink non biological wines, it may be disconcerting at the first smell and first sip, but a biological wine needs time to breath. Wait few minutes before drinking it and give the tasty beverage some fresh air. Some of natural wines will have a very typical smell which will disappear few minutes after opening and some of them may tend to be a little sparkling too because natural wines have a more active life once they are in the bottle. In Brutal Bar we are far from the polemics criticizing natural wines and saying they can be disgusting. You'll only find amazing wines in this place... And to be sure I've checked personally many of them. Excepted natural wines you'll probably want to add few meals or tapas to your order. Sure you'll find some yummy inescapable spanish finest ham, but the menu is huge and you'll find as well cooked dishes and sweet desserts. If you can find a seat during day weeks quite easily if it's not summer, you'll have to book if you want to have a chance to have a table on week-ends days. NB : if you want to have a chat with Nuria and take advantage of her extensive wine knowledge, then you'll have to choose thursday, friday or saturday evening. read more

Stopped in to buy wine from their shop. Nuria went through several different wines - they specialize in 'natural' wines here that you won't find anywhere else. From her recommendations we bought 5 bottles. One was excellent and over the top as she suggested. One other was OK - just different from our normal tastes - all were good and provided an interesting wine tasting for us. Stopped in again later for drinks at the bar - Nuria came by to make sure we were well taken care of. We really enjoyed this place and highly recommend it. read more

What a great place! I was in Bcn during the off-week with a group of friends, and as we had not idea where to have dinner that first night, of course I checked Yelp and try to find something pretty close from the place we were staying at. Can Cesa appeared to be the One: 2min walking in the Born area, let's go. Annnd...we were not disappointed at all! I loved the place at first sight: large wooden tables, visible wine cellar, and cosy and friendly atmosphere. We ordered different tapas and mains to be able to share and taste the maximum. I cannot remember something I wouldn't like! Everything was tasty and delicious. Tapas are qualitative and uncommon. Just one remark about the quantities...they could have been a bit more generous. Especially for the men at the table, who were still a bit hungry at the end. But maybe it is also because we were literally starving :-) Anyway, definitely a place I keep in mind for my next trip in Barcelona! read more

Exceptional tapas with Italian flair. Besides deliciously creative food they have an impressive wine selection, specializing in natural and organically grown wine. At first this place doesn't look anything special and certainly doesn't stand out from the rest. Oh, but wait till you get your food!! You must go here. Sit at the bar, order ANY of their wines (all natural no chemicals) and enjoy. They have a menu in english and spanish to make it easy. Not too touristy and tucked away (but not too far off the main road). We had the baby scallops, cured beef with parm and avocado, seared tuna toro and sausage sandwiches. I have to say that I am not gonna give the fifth star because I have found it a bit too expensive. It is a tapas place with italian roots. The quality of the food is very, very, very high, and they have an incredible wine selection (all ecological). Service is slow and sometimes you need to fight to get noticed by the busy waiters..but, overall, a place worth to try at least once. Here you can find some dishes hard to find outside Italy. The burrata was good but it lacked a touch of seasoning, and maybe some good olive oil or an aged balsamic. The foie gras terrine tasted a bit like store-bough. Its okay - food is so so. Service is okay...we are being highly picky though coming from the basque country with Michelin rated chefs. Every dish we had was very well thought out from a culinary perspective, and the ingredients worked together very nicely -- not just as an amalgamation of flavors but as a good presentation of a concept. Service was also excellent; we started with my broken Spanish, but after a few sentences, the server graciously transitioned to English and was able to hold a rather detailed conversation about the wine list in English.
