Visited Duluth back in August and ended up down in the Canal Park area looking for food. We really wanted seafood - but when the only option we came across was Red Lobster (meh) and it was packed. . . we decided that good beer would make us feel better. The place was hopping but not too busy. Got seated inside right away and the place looked very nice. Cool Brew-Pub looking atmosphere but with some trendy touches like the lights made out of beer barrels. Started out with beer - I tried a flight and got a Foggy Jack Porter, Nut Hatchet, some triple-bock beer who's name I don't remember and the wetsuit Malfunction. All were pretty decent beers. I think I was most impressed with the triple-bock since it was both light in color and had an easy taste - and it packed a punch! The Nut Hatchet was my second favorite. I usually like Porters, but the Foggy Jack was a bit bitter for me. We then ordered the Southern-Style Deviled Eggs from their menu. This was probably the only negative of the place - they were not very good. The egg white was hard and tasted old or not cooked right. The filling was supposed to be "tangy mix of mustard, pickle and gorgonzola cheese" which we thought sounded cool and different. It wasn't - I didn't taste the gorgonzola at all and it was far from tangy. For the price it was a huge flop. For dinner I had the fish tacos - I can't recall what my wife had - must have been the triple-bock! The food was good. A little different with some of the spices and rubs. Very decent and served fast and hot. Service was great too. Our waitress was very nice and going beyond the polite conversation to really give her opinions on things. By the looks of the people outside - this place was pretty well liked. We will be sure to come back again when we in Duluth again. read more

The food good until I bit into a rock hard object and had a tooth break in half. Not only was there no apology or refund, but their insurance company didn't help with the dental bills. Canal Park Brewery has chosen to exclude medical payments from their coverage wich is a small limit set aside for a business to take care of their customers who become injured on their premises. The insurance company stated that although they did not dispute the fact that there was a object in the food that caused my tooth to break, it was not the restaurants fault. I guess it was my fault for patronizing their establishment. Lesson learned. read more

Yummy brews with creative names and flavors! The food portions are large and I love that the chips and fries are handmade. The smoked tomato mayo is fantastic, as are the apps. I wish we'd had room for dessert because they sound delectable, but our tasty entrees were so large and I had no self-control so that it wasn't possible. My review for CPBC will be simple and for the staff if they visit Yelp. Tip: Went on a Sunday for Bloody Mary. After reading some amazing reviews on another site I said why not try it out. Upon arrival I searched for the bloody bar. Once found seeing store bought mix made me shake my head. (CPBC Staff: pour it into a water pitcher so people don't know you don't make it from scratch) Interior design is great. Designer did a great job. Loved the cut growlers for lights above the bar. Not really a fan of the keg lights but why not. Beer was great. Keep up the good brewing. read more

Why does this place suck so bad? Let me tell you. I'm from good ole North Dakota and my wife loves a trip to Duluth once in awhile. This brewery doesn't care about their beer nor their food. The food is overpriced and the staff is not only rude, but very irresponsible. I asked for side sauces that should've already come with the meal, 20 min later, nothing and not even an apology. Addison apparently the manager told my wife who was heading to the bathroom that she was allowed to ask for sauces from the hostess???? Not sure why. We wanted to sit out by the fire and it wasn't pleasant. The gas was way too strong and the chairs were cracking as we were moving around trying to get comfortable. The curds were freezer burned. The onion rings tasted like rubber. The bread tasted stale. Mold oh my goodness everything had mold. Nobody in retail. We wanted to get a hat ohhh and not to mention no growlers and no crowlers. Is this even a brewery or just an overpriced moldy restaurant with horrible lousy staff? Will not be returning and will be advertising this review locally and around Duluth as we eat at more high end efficient breweries. Do better or close down. read more

I recently stopped by Duluth for the weekend and was pleasantly surprised with this new brewery right on Canal Park. It had a very young, hip vibe. We only had the mussels appetizer, but it was amazing. It was a coconut milk curry sauce and delicious. (I hate paying for bread at restaurants, but the sauce was so dope we ordered an extra loaf for dollar.) The beer samplers were amazing (approximately $1.75 for a little shot glass sampler), and our waitstaff had great customer service. Overall, a really fun experience. We'll be back. read more

I think this place really met my expectations for what a brewery/restaurant should be! I had the mac and cheese with bacon, the selling point being that it was made with beer. This is a good location in Canal Park with a fair amount of its own parking. It's an easy walk from the hotels in the neighborhood, particularly the Hampton. Service here was solid, the beer selection was good, and the menu looked great, but most of the food was good though not that memorable. The Beer Cheese Soup, though, was all star! It was rich, thick, tangy, sharp, steaming with just the right amount of crunchy popcorn. Go here, if only for that soup and to try the beer. read more

We had hair in multiple dishes of food that came, and staff did not seem to care or want to help with the issue. That was just one incident recently. Been there a handful of times and it's always something different that disappoints me, usually rude staff, or bad food. This restaurant is a tourist-trap. It's expensive food that is not always prepared very well, and if something does go wrong you have to go thru the hoops with the staff to get a meal remade or comped. Good not great. I made the mistake of ordering a lobster roll and forgot that I'm no where near the ocean. They did their best and it was good but spendy obviously for lobster in MN. Canal Park Brewery is located along the lake front in downtown Duluth. It has your typical brewery feel - the smell of in-house brewed beer, brick walls, and wooden tables (which I am ALWAYS a fan of!). There is also a large patio that looks out onto the water - gorgeous! There is a pay parking lot - $3 flat fee for 3 hours which was plenty of time of time to eat and then hang out a bit along the lake front. The service was both good and bad. The hostess wasn't very friendly. She walked us to our table and threw down our menus before walking away without saying a word to us. In addition, she placed us at three separate tables (which she didn't offer to push together) and they didn't even have enough seats to fit everyone in our group... Fortunately, the service only improved from there. Our initial waitress, Hal, was very, very nice! She helped move us to a table that accommodated us all even though it meant her losing out on tip. Our actual waiter Ben was also very friendly! Quick and efficient at first - he took our drink and food orders right away. However, service slowed throughout our meal but it did get busier so we'll cut him some slack :P WHAT WE ORDERED: - Chicken Strips with Buffalo Sauce (instead of honey mustard) - batter was good but too salty. The buffalo sauce helped balance that out. It was tangy but not spicy enough in my opinion - Brewery Fries with Truffle Oil - not bad but not as crispy as I would have liked it to be. Also, I could smell the truffle oil but couldn't quite taste it as the other dry seasoning on the fries overpowered it - Lemon Garlic Wings - my boyfriend ordered this. He liked them but said that there was too much garlic Overall, I thought the portion sizes were pretty big for being appetizers, but I'm not complaining! Good atmosphere and good service too! It's great what CPB has done with this old spring factory! Lovely building and it's in a great spot. I'm not super impressed with the food selection or preparation; it's standard American pub type fare. I had a hard time finding much of a vegetarian selection, but settled on Mac and Cheese. It had a bit if a fluorescent yellow #5 look to it, which was disappointing as I generally prefer food prepared from scratch from normal ingredients, not mixes. The burger and fries were by all accounts decent. Beer is pretty good, though nothing stood out as a favorite. Overall I think this place needs to get on its feet and find some more inspiration regarding its menu and brewing. read more

When we looked at the menu, we were immediately indecisive on what to get. We settled for two apps (crab cakes and wings), two entrees (lobster sandwich and sliders) and replaced one of the fries with beer cheese soup. The beer cheese soup was THE best we ever had, the sliders were amazing, the crab cakes were the meatiest and so flavorful, the wings were on the spicy side for the Siracha and honey but were so full of meat. Canal park brewing is just that a great pub right by the canal. With the decent amount of seating and having The bar area somewhat separated I think this place is great for families and people who want to grab a few drinks. I went on Saint Patrick's day and it wasn't busy when we arrived but shortly there after there was a wait. They offer flights of the beers on tap and each beer comes with a sticker in front of it so you know exactly what you're drinking. I highly recommend the loon juice! We didn't get anything to eat but all the dishes around us makes me want to come back for some food. They also have a gift shop where they sell merchandise and stickers. It looked like when the weather is nice they would offer outdoor seating. read more

We enjoyed the Thai curry mussels, chicken asparagus sandwich, beer soup and the stout cake. All of it was pretty good, and we enjoyed the beers. Stout was my favorite, but the Kölsch was nice and crisp. The chocolate stout cake was pretty, but unfortunately a bit dry... I enjoy the food here. Sometimes it's quite seasons, more than it really should be but it's not bad food. The service is very nice though with alcohol orders they can be a bit slow. Prices can also be a bit high considering what you're getting and out of a big menu there's nothing that is just simply: here's some steak or chicken breast. I know it's not the theme really the theme of the restaurant but it would be nice rather than just weirdly slightly vegan sections or a massive selection of apps and burgers. No one was at hostess stand to greet customers, i found an employee, I was directed to look at the menu and order at the bar as there are no servers. Placed order at bar and every drink(4) I ordered from their menu they were out of. My food came out within 3 minutes of placing order which tells me it's not freshly cooked. Tidehaus burger was Luke warm and over cooked. Staff did not seem to care how customer experience was so I ate my meal and escaped, never to return again. Wow! Can't make up your mind? Order a flight. The flight (for you non brew-pubbers) is typically 4-6 4oz beers of your choosing. I had the wheat ale, an IPA, a double IPA and a porter. All were great. The beer went well with The bacon/beer cheese soup, which is topped with fresh popped and salted popcorn. I could seriously bathe in this soup. Unfortunately, the cup was too deep for me to lick the bowl clean with my tongue. I continued cleansing my palate with beer while enjoying a Hot Cubano Sandwich.
