A friend and I came through here looking for breakfast on a long cross-country cycling trip. The night before, we camped about a mile out of town and a lot of folks told us to come try out this diner. We didn't regret it! Our server was super warm and friendly, and she kept our coffee and tea cups full and hot. The place was busy but they helped us get a table fairly quickly. We might have been the only folks wearing masks while not eating, but nobody sneered at us about it - we were a little worried about that to be honest. The food was solid down-the-street-diner breakfast food in great portions. My friend for a "fry pile," and it was such a monstrous size that it was all the food he needed for the 4-hour, 45 mile cycling day we had ahead of us! But please, please try the "2 Greek Girls" menu items, they are AWESOME. I got a Greek style omelet with spinach and feta cheese that blew my mind. My wife and I have walked and biked the towpath trails for quite a few years. It has been awhile since we have been in this diner. Everything was very good for my wife and I. The only area for improvement was with my Greek chicken. My two sides were the baked potato and green beans. I do like them all at the same time. Unfortunately, they all arrived as three different courses of a meal . Stepping onto Canal street, you could see the potential. An old strip of mom and pop shops, lots of blood sweat and tears. This place holds true with those age old values. Inside it's small, lots of charm, not a lot of seats. I saddled up to the counter and was immediately greeted by smiles and greetings. My waitress Layla was tremendous. Between helping with coffee refills to navigating the delightful menu, we decided that the Reuben was the target. I had some strategy planned. I overheard Layla discussing some specials of the day, as well as describing the homemade dessert she brought. Yes, you read that right. My waitress was slaving away making a phenomenal cake to bring in that she thought people would love. I executed my plan to a T. After eating half of my lunch I then requested some of Layla's Banana Cake with Cinnamon cream cheese icing. It was a grand slam. Flawlessly moist with the richest most addictive icing ever. Thank god I saved room. You better save room too. From their breakfast to their lunch, the menu is on point. Went here today with my family after spending some time in the area. The place is a classic charming small town diner and it really gives a nostalgic feeling. The staff was friendly and attentive making sure we were taken care of and enjoying our meal. The food was very good as well. We got some of hair canal boat potato skins as an appetizer which were delicious. Cooked well with good portions of cheese, bacon, And green onions. My main meal was the 2 piece cod with fries and Mac and cheese. The fish was cooked well and had a flavorful and crunchy batter and the fries were well seasoned and they gave me a lot. The mac and cheese was also nice and cheesy. My mom enjoyed her chicken Parmesan melt she said the chicken was nice and crispy and the potato chips that came with it were well cooked and delicious. FIVE STARS!!! I know this place is 5-star rated and i now know why! Every small town could have a great little diner like this. A solid menu, great service, and a good location are the start, but, it takes some serious hard work to make it a success. You can tell the owners care and the staff cares. I had the 3-piece haddock dinner with fries and onion rings. Man, was it delicious!!! My wife had the Carribean vegetables and she raved about how good it was!! Wow. What a wonderful place! We'd been driving for hours and picked this spot randomly. It was like winning the lottery. I got the roast beef sandwich on their in-house white bread. Amazing flavor! Great stop on the towpath bike trail. It is 11 south of the John Glenn trailhead in city center of Bolivar. We sat outside on one of the ~5 outdoor seating tables. Reallly really great service Get the fries. Yes the fries. They are like carnival fries but better. We also had onion rings which were super big hand dipped greatness Ice cream had the salted Carmel truffle. Just fantastic. Did not get a meal as we were eating light . House salad was good better than I expected for a diner like this. Chilli was acceptable with a nice amount of cheese and raw onion chips on top. Yet I would not get the chilli again. Did I say the service was great? Yes it took a bit to make our food as there was only two gals working but all and all we really enjoyed our lunch read more

This is my first review and I'm so happy that it's for Canal Street!! We've been a few times and have never been disappointed. Everything is homemade-- tonight was Swiss steak for my husband, and I tried the pesto chicken. The Swiss steak was seasoned perfectly and hubby nearly licked the plate clean of the gravy & mash. My chicken was tender and flavorful. We love the homemade ranch dressing for the fresh salads. Breakfasts are always great--pancakes the size of the plate! The best part though is the way the staff make you feel. They seamlessly work together as a team and everyone always has a smile to greet you. You're taken care of from the moment you enter. The Reuben was disappointing but the pie and fries were delicious. The sauerkraut was totally bland. The corned beef was nicely cooked but under seasoned. The sandwich was just OK. Nothing to get excited about. The fries were a different story. I got the Two greek girl fries and they were wonderful! Tossed in butter garlic sauce and topped with feta cheese and olives. The strawberry rhubarb pie was fantastic! Tasted very fresh. Fruit had a good texture - not just mush. The place is well worn but clean. If the employees weren't serving they were cleaning. When driving along I77 resist the temptation to pull off and get the same food you can find anywhere and stop here! The food is all Greek inspired and very authentic. I had the lamb gyro which was good but they are famous for the fries and have a varied and creative assortment from which to choose. A little cafe with a huge taste! Breakfast: fluffy pancakes, delicious scrambled eggs, and perfect bacon. Lunch: sandwiches were good-sized (chicken BBQ, lamb gyro, and roast beef and cheddar) and the fry piles, oh the fry piles (two Greek girls and the loaded potato) probably enough for a meal. And delicious! The staff were friendly and competent. As an example, usually I need to ask multiple times for hot sauce at other restaurants, but these folks brought it just in case I wanted it even though I had not yet asked for it. When one of our party didn't finish something (being quite full) they asked specifically to make sure everything was acceptable. This amazing small-town diner is WELL WORTH a little detour. After a long Tuesday in Canton, we decided to grab some relaxing dinner on the way back to New Philadelphia. We had three people and had three very diverse orders. The atmosphere is friendly fun diner and we had a great server. The food ordered included a chicken salad croissant, the lamb gyros with feta and a 1/2 pound smash burger special. All three were really delicious. We chose the warm homemade potato chips and some onion rings as the sides and they really are well made and tasted great. They have a very large selection of desserts, including various Hershey Ice Cream flavors, but we decided to choose from a long list of homemade pies (made locally by one of their servers!). We opted for Key Lime Pie and Rhubarb Pie... Both were super tasty and you could tell they were freshly made! One of the best burgers in the area, friendly people (including the other patrons) and great pies for dessert will bring us back again soon! Limited seating so get there early! read more

The Canal Street Diner delivered. I ordered the two eggs, two pancakes and meat breakfast. Husband got the early riser, which is hash browns scrambled with onions and mushrooms with eggs and cheese on top. Pancakes might have been the best I've ever had - light and fluffy, and humung-o. Early riser was also delicious, which came with homemade white bread for the toast. The star was definitely the homemade sausage patties that came with my meal - unreal. Coffee wasn't anything to write home about, but I don't expect a barista when I visit a diner. The menu was far more expansive than we explored - lots of omelet options, specialty pancakes and French toasts and more. I just couldn't get past the pancakes and I'm so glad I didn't. read more
