While some of the aesthetics are outdated, I can't help but love this theatre. I find that the old carpets and signage add to the charm. The staff here are very kind and make you feel welcomed. The seats are updated and very spacious, with some reclining capacity. You can't bet the prices for tickets and concessions. Very affordable compared to big chain theaters in the area. We had the theater to ourselves which was a nice bonus! The popcorn was delicious. You could smell it as soon as you enter the lobby. I don't make it out to Canandaigua Theatres often but when I do it's a great experience. Glad they are still going strong and happy to support an independent theatre. read more

Love this movie theater , its old school theater so if your one of those pampered people who want a foot massage while watching a movie stay home or go to a AMC which by the way is becoming second rate theater . So if you just want to watch a movie out have a great time this place is just great . read more

Much better experience during this outing than our last experience. Staff were super friendly and helpful with concessions order. Ordering tickets online was super easy. My son wanted to see the FNAF sequel and it's been a long 2 week school break so it was good to get out of the house. Theater was much cleaner this time and the floors were not sticky which is always a plus. Theater was busy on Jan 2- evening. Great to see for a small local business. read more

To me it is a small town theater from the 80s/90s trying to hold on. Small theaters with only center aisle. Doors do not block out sound for the theaters that are close to lobby. Chairs have been upgraded at some point but are not true recline and kind of uncomfortable if you sit up straight. Bathrooms are in major need of maintenance and upgrade-See pic for air vents in bathroom. Staff is nice and picture and audio quality are decent. read more

Very nice theater, good price, but the soundtrack's volume during the 3/31/26 6:30pm showing of Project Hail Mary in theater 10 was incredibly low and seemed like it might be in mono and not multiple audio tracks. Explosions on the screen looked great, but they were as quiet as all the rest of the movie's audio. When I let a concession stand staff member know of the problem, her response was "OK". The sound volume and mix were never corrected. The movie itself was great and worth watching even though the people in the lobby were sometimes as easy to hear as the movie itself. The audience was terrific and all seemed to make an effort to not move around or even whisper so that we were able to mostly hear the quiet movie dialog. I recommend that someone on the theater staff be tasked with walking into each theater near the start of each showing and check to make sure the sound mix and volume are appropriate. read more

I have to completely disagree with the negative reviews here. I grew up going to movies here and I was thrilled to see that it has still retained some classic character and hadn't morphed into some mutant theater. We decided to go see Coco today and this theater was the closest offering a good time. When we arrived there was a small, somewhat crowded lobby leading to the ticket sales. The woman selling tickets was courteous and welcoming. The whole scene was very informal... yet charming. Ticket prices were printed on legal-sized paper slipped into a plastic display. Here's the best part - two adults and a senior coat $20!!! Yes, $20... in the Bronx we can't get one ticket for $20. Once we received our tickets we entered the lobby which was small and unassuming. Some video arcade games. The large popcorn machine was the centerpiece to concessions, inviting me to indulge. A kids popcorn and drink combo and a large drink and large popcorn and box of Reese's Pieces cost $16. Unheard of. And as with the ticket line, the woman at concessions was friendly and welcoming. Before the film I used the restrooms. They were tired and not appealing, but they were clean. Period. That's all that mattered to me. The theater seats were fine. Just enough room to sit and slouch if need be. Cup holders. Great sound and picture quality. Floors clean and definitely NOT sticky. Bottom line if you're looking for living room recliners, craft beers, moody moms, attitudes and $30 movie tickets this isn't your place. It's a nostalgic, respectful theater with a few cosmetic issues, but deserves much more here than others have given. read more

I agree, the movie theater in Canandaigua is so poorly kept we quit going there almost a year ago. They have not updated the place since it opened. Half of the seats are broken and worn so badly you can feel the metal bottom when you sit down. The screens are either too small or torn and the sound quality is poor. Do yourself a favor and drive to Victor, although they raised their prices significantly this past year to over $12 or better yet drive to Geneva, the theater there is much better in comparison and you get free popcorn on Tuesdays and new releases are in the stadium style theater. read more

Only near by movie theater without a drive but this place is second rate at best. Needs some TLC and updating, a bit rundown but movie prices are reasonable. A little work and updates could greatly improve the only movie theater in town. read more

A GREAT theatre. It's convenient for locals who don't want to spend the time and money to travel to a larger market. Pricing is reasonable. I'd rather spend under $20 for a ticket and refreshments than the fortune it costs me see a movie in Victor! Maybe if more people patronned this theatre the management would have more revenue to make the improvement some people seem to need. They have replaced the old seats with comfortable seating. Website says reclining chairs. They don't recline. They "recline" like airplane seats. Popcorn was burnt and stale. Ordered a jumbo and they wouldn't give me cups since they don't have trays. I had a family of five that kept passing the bag during the movie. read more

Close and convenient for those of us who live in the area. Admission prices are decent. The food prices are excessive but then again all movie theaters are. This place is outdated. Chairs are squeaky, old, and heavily stained. The floors are sticky and really could use a face lift on the inside. read more

Chairs are kinda sucky... Some theaters are better than others but overall not very good for the price of admission. Just watched "The Dark Knight Rises" in Dolby 7.1 but that was kinda ruined by the sound of the ac blasting over the sound of the movie, and other than being very loud and crisp it didn't really have a surround sound feel. read more

This theater is small but what I expect and hope for in a small town. It is clean and has never been too crowded by my standard. The employees have always been courteous and kind. I just really appreciate the size, proximity of parking lot to main entry, easy access to the concessions and overall experience. There are a lot of negative reviews on here with people complaining that they don't have all the perks and luxuries that newer and larger theaters are offering- but that is exactly why I prefer this theater. read more

We went last night for the last showing of Hanna. The screen in our theater was torn and dirty and interfered with the overall experience. I can't understand how this theater can charge eight dollars for a ticket and be such low quality. I went to use the restroom after the movie and there were paper towels and toilet paper all over the floor and it was filthy. This place stinks. It's the only place in town. The theater is part of what you pay for.. Why does it have to be so nasty? I've been to much nicer places and paid less. Canandaigua should really have a place to brag about. read more

For the last few years we have been going to Regal at Eastview. I would rather drive and pay more money, then to have to sit uncomfortably through a movie that I am paying to watch. Which was always the case at Canandaigua theatre- uncomfortable seats and sticky floors. After reading that Canandaigua had upgraded there seating, we figured that we would give it a go. Last night took our teenagers to see End Game at 8pm. The seats were not comfortable at all. Every time anyone moved, there was annoying rubber sound- much like running your hand over a wet balloon. There are no foot rests when in the "reclined" position and I use that term loosely as it was hardly a recline position. Overall, HORRIBLE!!! We will not be giving them our money again and will be returning to Regal. If I'm going to sit through at three hour movie, it better be comfortable!! read more

Better than a 19 inch Black and White TV from 1969! I was 14 back then. Cash only and small screens but better than nothing. It really is not so bad. You can drive to Victor which is 25 minutes away if you need a big modern screen. I rather be close to home. read more

I drive to Victor, or even Webster to avoid this theater and I live a mile away. They started a long time ago to re do it then quit before it's half done. The chairs are awful and many are broken which are covered with garbage bags. Several of the screens have scratches and tares. It's just very dumpy and it's obvious the owner has no intentions of fixing the place up. read more

Took 6 of us to Canandaigua last night to see 3 different movies, unfortunately the theater that my son and his friend were in was absolutely horrific, the seats were so filthy and nasty with stains all over them and the arm rests were NASTY, I really did not want them to sit in those seats at all but they had no choice. I will NEVER EVER bring my children back to Canandaigua to the movies ever again, I will drive to Newark, Geneva or Victor. I have NO Idea how the Canandaigua Theater stays in business, it's just THAT nasty! BRING LOTS OF HAND SANITIZER IF YOU DECIDE TO TAKE THE CHANCE! It was theater 9 that was the worst!
