RACHEL IS A GENIUS!!!! First of all, I live in Austin, TX. My son was getting married in Charleston, and I hadn't been to a salon since the beginning of the pandemic. I made an appointment with Rachel for hair and makeup on Saturday, the day of the wedding, as well as an appointment for the prior Wednesday because I desperately needed a haircut as well as color. I was pretty nervous, as this was a leap of faith that I'm not used to taking. I explained the situation to Rachel, and she immediately put me at ease. We discussed the style (up-do) that I wanted for the wedding, as she assessed what would be the best course to get the results that I wanted. I had been coloring my own hair and it needed a serious amount of correction. She took a few "before" pics and then she got started. She began by blunt cutting the dead ends off, and removing some of the length, about 4 inches give or take. She began a very long correction and coloring process that lifted some of the awful color that I had ended up with and blended several beautiful colors in a balayage process. She then proceeded with a real haircut, and style. The total process took a fair amount of time, and I was in a hurry to get to the hotel and meet up with my sister, so I rushed out, and hurried through a few pictures that her assistant wanted to take. She showed them to me, and I asked to see the "befores". OMG!! The change was nothing short of epic! She hadn't changed the color in a drastic way, but the layering of beautiful tones as well as the best haircut I've had in many years was simply amazing. The confidence she gave me as I started a four day wedding weekend with people I had yet to meet was off the charts, and meant more to me than she could possibly know. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to afford flying to Charleston every six weeks or so because I don't want anyone else touching my hair! Oh, did I mention that on Saturday my up-do and makeup were everything I had hoped for and then some? Don't hesitate. Treat yourself to a little pampering at Pinkhouse. I went from brown to Gwen Stephanie white. It was done in stages and smartly. The stylist I have is Jackie she explained everything to me. Like how long it would take and what to expect. I LOVE my hair. Now she keeps it up. It looks fantastic. I absolutely love it. I would recommend this salon to anyone who wants great results. I went back to Salon Vari after a few months off I had surgery. So needless to say my hIr wasn't kept up. I went back today and got my hair done. Jackie is the perfect stylist. She blended my hair. When traveling away from home for months, happiness is . . . an expert colorist who can match your color! Bonus points for an awesome blow out at no extra charge! I highly recommend Salon Vari and especially Vivienne! I was anxious about getting my color done by a new colorist. I gave Vivienne my color formula for Toco Magico, and she went to lengths to match it with their Wella products. I could not be happier with the outcome! Vivienne took the time to blow my hair out - which is a project, even though it was the end of the day on a Friday. Overall, I was impressed with Salon Vari. I had left a voicemail after hours the previous day and the receptionist who returned my call shortly after opening was very pleasant and courteous. I had to wait a few minutes for my appointment, but that isn't unusual at a hair salon. The salon was attractive and I was offered water, juice or wine. Everyone was pleasant. I love this place and the bonus is they have parking behind the building! A big plus for a downtown salon. Salon Vari is located at 101 Spring Street and it appears as if they only have a small driveway but that would be a false assumption because the lot behind the building is quite large by downtown standards. The interior of the building is very elegant and sophisticated so I was happy to relax and enjoy my coffee. I decided to take my daughter to Jackie Guingona at Salon Vari to have her hair cut and glossed because she had styled her hair for an event and it turned out so gorgeous that we thought we should try her out. Both of us are very picky about hair stylists as we have both been burned with a stylist that just says yes and cuts it any old way or uneven and then charges a fortune for the privilege. Jackie listened very patiently, discussed a few options and then suggested a cut. Her cut looked great and Jackie even suggested a few different hairstyles that would complement my daughter's face shape (rather than pulling it back in a ponytail). Went in as a new client for a cut and balayage today and must say that I wasn't super impressed. The cut is fine, but the balayage was a bit sloppy. It didn't turn out bad enough that I needed it to be redone, though I did voice my concern for there not being enough strands being treated before we were through. Stylist and everyone there was nice but the work just wasn't the level I expected for 5 star reviews that I have been reading here. The finished product looks okay from afar but up close, you can still see there is still a clear demarcation of my prior balayage - does not look like I just got my hair done. My previous stylist in Philadelphia took a painstaking amount of time dividing and coloring each strand and foiling those away, layering them throughout so the finished product looked silky and flawless throughout with subtle variations strand to strand. The balayage here was literally painting random blocks of hair and letting them all fall down into one pile on my shoulders. I will not be going back to this salon and can't say that I would recommend it to others. read more
