I do like this group and I do like my doctor. But I have some concerns, as I've been warned that they will 'dismiss' you if they feel a need. For whatever reason. Which I guess is their right, but I'm pretty nervous. I mean, I have a terminal cancer diagnosis. And I need care. Which I am getting and I'm grateful for. But I believe I'd be better served by a change to another of their doctors. As my issue is I need a doctor there who has more insight into my specific situation. And some good connections regarding clinical trials. I've been offered a clinical trial at the Mayo Clinic for a first line treatment. I've had no treatment to date. My cancer is being watched. So: I heard that they don't like you switching doctors. Which led me to query the internet and up popped some text from their website that said changing doctors was allowed and was not a problem. But I don't think this is true, as others have experienced denials to have a different doctor and even have been dismissed from the practice for being pro-active in finding a good fit. Beyond comments in this forum, I have been cautioned by other doctors in the larger medical community that I would need to demand the new doctor because they "don't like you to switch". ?? But if I demand, then I'll be in hot water. It's stressful to take this in. I'm afraid to get my needs met by asking for a different more specific carer to my situation. In my opinion, which is 'evidence based' in reference to the experience and expertise of the doctor I'd like to switch to. In the past, I've had some questions for my doctor where I have felt communicating was fraught. More recently I was offered a clinical trial at the Mayo Clinic. Of course I wanted to discuss this with my Doctor here locally. I did not feel there was much interest --and I got the impression I would be booted out if I chose to begin therapy with the trial. I was told by Mayo that I would start the treatment at Mayo, but after a couple of months I could finish the protocol locally. So that was great, right? Well my doctor here did not offer that I could continue with the treatment locally. There was no enthusiasm. I was left hanging in trying to read the room. What my doctor said is "let me know what you decide" which came across as you either 1) do the clinical trial there, or 2) you stay here and don't do the clinical trial. Basically it was tough to feel heard. I was truly perplexed as the Mayo folks were clear with me that my cancer was --not becoming aggressive. But my doctor here was telling me I was --about to need chemotherapy as my cancer looked to be becoming aggressive. which is why I went to Mayo to get some clarity. They did a PETCT that painted an entirely different portrait of my disease status. Here locally my doc was telling me that I could have no treatment without verifying exactly what my cancer was doing, which would require open surgery just to try to get the tiny tumor area for pathology. The tumor being in a place that would risk my health to a very large degree. This was so confusing to then learn that I could avoid chemotherapy with a drug protocol that was not chemotherapy with no need to biopsy further. My doctor here seemed to think this was a possibility. But we just couldn't seem to connect to arrive at discussing this well. I do like my doctor. I think she cares and is capable. I wonder if my doctor has lost sight of my particular situation. The other local doctor works well with the Mayo Clinic and with Mayo trials, I think, given his connections there with Mayo. I have been referred to this other doctor verbally. And warned that getting switched could be a minefield I'll try to discuss this further with my present doctor. But I scared I will make this doctor will find me troublesome. Once it was suggested that I was wasting this doctor's time and this doctor became exasperated with me. Not kidding. So, you see. Where do I begin? There are some commendable people who work here - one or two at the front desk (others are snooty and a pain the rear), almost every nurse I've seen is great, and the large majority of the nurses in the infusion center are wonderful. Others are easily offended if you dare to ask questions or disagree with any little thing. The problems: The phone system makes me want to NEVER call them. The first sign its a huge corporation is you have to call a dang call center, recite your information every time, and then leave your message. They then call the center you're seen at and the appropriate person will call you whenever they feel like they can. If you are unfortunate to miss the call, you will get a generic message to call them back and the whole things starts all over again, even though they could have left you a message about what you specifically ,called about. I'm old school, and I despise all this runaround. They employ enough staff - have someone actually answer your phones at the office! This problem of making a (often sick) cancer patient come in a day before their treatment to have their blood drawn - EVERY TIME. When you're receiving chemo, this is a lot. Please organize yourselves better to take the blood of the patient you're seeing that day. Lately, I've also been charged by Renown, so they don't run all their own blood anymore. Quit making life difficult rather than easier for cancer patients. There are many other things I could mention, but this would be novel instead of a review. You have to be your own advocate here or they will walk all over you, your wishes be damned. You will not be given many, if any, solutions to the problems and pain that arise with treatment. Finally, the doctor. Ahhh, well, one example: I asked a question about severe pain I was having, and she replied "Oh, if it was that you'd already be dead." This describes in a nutshell her bedside manner. If you're looking for more than a "by the book, this is how you treat this type of cancer," you're out of luck here. If you refuse a particular treatment, you're almost treated like a child who has been bad. I think they forget just whose body this is you've been paid quite well to treat. I don't expect you to work miracles, but if a treatment has caused a reaction, yes, I expect you to treat it, not send me to urgent care. My hell. My prognosis isn't good, but I'm still alive, and I have choices, and I'm doing my best. Now, do yours, CCS. You know you're not. read more

How the patient is treated from the first visit. Don't let a Nurse Practitioner tell you on a first time visit that they have Stage 4 cancer without knowing what kind of cancer they had. Tests not done in a timely manner, no follow-up. Testing not finished, but told it "didn't appear" to be cancer, but maybe Autoimmune. Literally just sent us on our way without follow-up or referrals. Not ALL tests were even done. We had to seek a second opinion on our own, and my husband is now in Hospice. Treatment is not an option, and many months were wasted waiting for tests or follow-up from the Oncologist at Cancer Care. I'd like an explanation on our experience with Cancer Care going from Stage 4 to Autoimmune to a second opinion with Renown's Dr Sampat having the specific test done to show a Sarcoma. Dr. Sampat was upfront and very candid with dealing with us. Cannot say the same for Cancer Care Specialists or Dr Ambeka (sp). Angry and disappointed with Cancer Care, we were treated very poorly. read more

Doctor Aaron Bowman is phenomenal! My family and I will forever go to Doctor Bowman for any oncology needs! He helped keep my dad alive for 5 years when originally he gave my dad about 2 years. With the help and encouragement of Doctor Bowman and his Nurse Laura my dad beat that timeframe and fought for a total of 5 years. Joe Pierson (my dad) passed away on 08/08/2023 at home with my sister and I and he always referred to Doctor Bowman as the "Boss" for everything regarding his cancer/heath. This is simply because people, families and individuals like my father, Robert Jr. Romo deserve to know what they are truly in for. As you know, or at least as you should know if you are any good at your jobs- My father was in the transitory period from Dr.Singh to Dr. Pullman just a week within his time of death. I only wish this transfer happened months earlier. And I am sure you are aware as to why. If not, then you are exemplifying the same clueless patterns as before. I am disgusted and ashamed that my Father was put in the care of this office and practice. It wasn't just the ineffective responses, shameful response times or the disgusting overall lack of informatization- It was the manner in which this communication was portrayed. The sheer amount of unprofessional and insensitive interactions that took place between my father and your office should be shameful to you. You were disrespectful and demeaning in every sense of the word and I do have recordings as proof of this. I only write this to remind you that if you have decided to become a healthcare professional, you have a lot of real work to do. I am positive I interacted with a sizable portion of your office and I was not impressed and continue to not be impressed. My father died after a needed surgery and died in front of myself- his eldest daughter; and his family and you did not even attempt to call any contact of my fathers ( like Myself) or once visit him while in the hospital while he was there receiving care before that surgery. This only shows me that you are careless and devoid of any real empathy or professionalism. I hope you lose all of your "business" and maybe walk away from this particular experience feeling lesser than as a healthcare professional and also in general, as a human being. I truly direct this to the office staff, phone operators ( nurses maybe, I don't actually know your role at all?) and finally and most ardently; Dr. Singh. YOU out of everyone in the entire building, should be absolutely ashamed, my family is horrified that my dad had to work with you, talk to you and deal with you at all in the final months and weeks of his life and I will never have anything positive to say about you or your strategy on "helping" my father. I've been seeing CCS since 2017. Unlike a previous comment I saw that someone said it's like a cancer treatment puppy mill, I am baffled. (Some people just can't be grateful, I guess.) These people dedicate their lives for ours. It is SO unfortunate that cancer is prevalent and yes, there are going to be times that the facility is much busier than others. That being said, the response time and follow-up to make sure I receive my blood transfusions off-site or in-hospital, iron infusions on-site and follow up appointments for my blood disorder has always been handled quickly and efficiently. I feel like these doctors, nurses and support staff are the best safety net. They provide great relief from what can be a very stressful situation, regardless of what the interaction is for. I was given a new Doctor since my Doctor move to a new office in Carson city Doctor Arekapudi is a very knowledgeable, professional and friendly, so I am giving him a try for a few month, my concern is that I think I should be seeing a Hematologist since my cancer is in the blood, I have been going to Cancer care since 2013 and the Clinic it is convenient for us to drive. I have been a patient of cancer care specialists for going on five years. I liked my doctor, and she's the only reason I stay. The staff in their office and their chief operating officer Wesley Falconer is sub par. If you bring a complaint to Wesley, he is condescending, rude, and leads you to believe that no matter how he behaves nothing will done about his behavior because he only reports to the owner and the board (he says with a smirk), and he also threatens that you won't have a doctor and won't be a patient at Cancer Care Specialists after you've just been informed that your cancer is back, and that you have to do radiation for the fourth time. I just got out of the hospital Wednesday morning. I was finally able to speak to my doctor Wednesday night. I have been previously told that if I was hospitalized I would see a cancer care doctor at Renown, which never happened. There was no continuity of care as they claim. We came up with a plan together on the phone (because the office couldn't squeeze me in) then the next day I get a call from one of her nurses that's she changing the plan without consulting me. I have the right to be involved in the care I receive, and my doctor doesn't have my permission to change things without consulting me. If she was changing something she should have called and went over it with me. The nurse that called to tell me about the change didn't have answers to the question I had. The call was disconnected , and she unprofessionally didn't call back. Knowing full well I couldn't call back and reach her because of the way their phone system is set up. I got in my car, and drove down there to get the answers to my questions. I asked to talk to the office manager. It took Wesley about 25 minutes to come talk to me. Wesley and most of his staff that I have encountered are rude, condescending, Unprofessional, and they lack common sense, empathy, and lack any resemblance of professionalism. It's also damn near impossible to get through to anybody in the office. The way they have the phone systems set up only benefits the office, and not the patients. It appears to me that they forget they are there to care for us during the most difficult times of our lives. I told Wesley that I have an attorney and I will be speaking with her, and that I would be reviewing Ccs and him specifically on every platform available. He said I was threatening him because I told him I am going to leave a review. Wesley should know that if he had provided good service it would be a good review and since he provided piss poor service, it would be a bad review. Telling someone you're going to leave a review isn't a threat it's recourse for good and bad service. Wesley also told me to be careful what I write, and that I should run it by my lawyer first. Sounds threatening, doesn't it? I truly believe that this office is most unprofessional medical facility I have ever encountered. I believe you lead by example and the reason he has the rudest staff in town is because they follow Wesley's example. Cancer Care Specialists would thrive with proper leadership. Jasmine was professional and follwed up with several phone calls to get me scheduled with the proper referral. She was kind and patient. The office staff at the desk were very kind and pleasant! I wish I knew their names, to give all credit deserved. As I sat in the waiting room, I noticed a medical assistant or nurse come out and hug two different patients! The office was warm and friendly. I'm baffled by the negative reviews on this site. I am an experienced healthcare provider who worked in critical care, oncology, and had advanced certification in infusion therapies. This clinic is extremely well run, with a helpful front desk, pleasant support staff, and solid systems in place to move patients through efficiently and with little fuss. Dr Arekuputi is warm, friendly, and very efficient in zeroing in on the problem at hand, spells out the problem and solutions and is not distracted by non relevant details. He does not sugar coat, but gives all the information necessary for the patient to make their own decisions based on science and facts, while offering additional support if needed. While discussing it with my husband he explained that these doctors have helped thousands of patients but only the ones with bad experiences leave reviews. Well, after 4.5 years of treatment with Reganti she still didn't call me by the right name during my last and final appointment. My legal, government name. Not a nickname or something not on my chart. I tried to change doctors and was denied. She told me I couldn't have neuropathy now because it "doesn't just start this long after chemo". No, it probably doesn't, and that's why you decreased my dose during chemo, because of the neuropathy. You are just a number and their priority is making money. do not go here! they do not care about you, or if your dying from cancer. the board of directors run everything there, and they seem to have no souls. my mother had stage five breast cancer, and was referred there stat. they were a provider for for her insurances, but still refused to see her as there panel for medicaid was closed. she was a qualified medicare beneficiary, and by law its illegal to deny someone based on income when you are a qmb. so folks because she was low income for her secondary insurance she died 4 months later. she could not find treatment in reno or sparks nevada had to go all the way to carson. our health system is so broken! read more

I got established with Dr. Ambika in March 2023 for breast cancer. I truly liked him and felt he was very reasonable and willing to listen to my concerns/issues. I had been going in for Zoladex injections monthly along with getting my Anastrozole pills and had my appointment for this last Weds. Anyway, I recently started a new job and now have new insurance. Apparently, there is a $650 copay for the injections that I was never asked to pay previously. The man in billing stated they could offer me a "credit" for the injection but they still needed $390 up front. When I asked to pay a portion of the copay and then have them bill me for the rest as I did not have all of funds, they refused stating "we don't do payment plans here, you need to pay up front or we can't treat you". Needless to say an argument ensued and I asked them how they can treat a cancer patient like this?? They then stated that they could have the injection given at another infusion center in Carson City but could not guarantee how long it would take to set this up. I demanded to speak to the nurse for Dr. Ambika who was not much more help as far as trying to work something out, then she informs me that "we have turned this over to our leadership for a decision" I told her I needed a call back immediately in which she said she could not guarantee that. I am dumbfounded at the lack of quality of medical care in Northern Nevada. I had previously sought treatment at OHSU in Portland, Oregon because there was ZERO sense of urgency from the doctors in this area as I was unlucky enough to be diagnosed during the holidays. I transferred care back down here as I did not want to keep going to Portland, but now I am thinking twice. I can recommend Dr. Ambika, but not the medical group that runs this office--it seems they are only out for money and if you can't pay them right now, you are out. I understand that no one works for free and of course they need to be paid, but in my opinion, this is inexcusable. I will not be going back CCS. read more

My mom was under the care of reganti from 2017 to 2021. After her one year treatment she was cleared of cancer only to have it spread to her brain a month later. She was never told this could happen but it turns out it is very common with the type of breast cancer she had. This doctor was very neglectful and not kind or thorough. My mom had brain surgery and was on oral cancer meds to extend her life. Those drugs destroyed her body. She had constant pain in her hands and feet to the point where she couldn't walk or use her hands. This doctor did nothing for her. At the end my mom was in the hospital for one week under regantis instruction. It took my dad a week to get her out of there and reganti did nothing to help. My mom needed to be at home in the care of hospice. She was never prescribed any kind of pain medication. I think reganti likes seeing people suffer. Horrible experience. My mom died at home in the arms of my dad and surrounded by me and my husband , her cat and my dog. Reganti never even checked in to see what was going on or how she was doing. I am attaching a photo of a text to me from my mom about two weeks before she passed. It says she spoke with reganti and she confirmed the symptoms she was having didn't have anything to do with the cancer. When she had a brain scan about of week later her brain was covered in tumors. The cancerous kind. Be very careful if you get this doctor. Be your own advocate and do not end up like my mom. This woman is not to be trusted. read more

I was with Cancer Care or its predecessors for over 10 years. Most of the time was with Dr. Shields until he retired. I then got assigned to Dr. Guerard. After a couple of visits she said I needed to start treatments which cost $15,000 a month and which I needed to remain on for the rest of my life. I told her that I didn't want to undertake this course of action. She offered no alternative and told me if I didn't do as she wanted she could no longer treat me, and followed up with a letter terminating me from their pratice. I then went to UC Davis Cancer Center. It was like a different world. The doctor I saw knew more about my case before I met him than Dr. Guerard and was a wonderful doctor. He told me that I should probably get treatment although it wasn't critical at this time. He then carefully explained 6 different treatments I could opt for. He put them in the order he thought would be most effective. I might note that Dr. Guerards' treatment was LAST on his list. read more

This state of the art facility is trying their best to accommodate all patients who are fighting their toughest battle in life-CANCER! I have a sister who battles cancer and yes, chemotherapy is the way to go. There may be some "wholistic" approach as what some reviewers had mentioned, but that is totally up to the patient's choice of treatment. Our choice of treatment is to go with chemotherapy and these doctors are great with what they do. They are indeed the experts in this field with years of education and experience. Zero stars actually but have to mark one. I would not go to CCS. I got a referral 48 days ago. It was marked urgent. CCS had my referral for 3 days when I called to see if they had it at the insistence of my doctor. I was told that my file was going directly to the doctors desk. No word so I called two days later. No, doctor didn't have my file but they were short handed and I was next in line from two files that are being processed now. We will call you in next day or so to get you appointment with doctor. On the first call I had a bad feeling about this place because of their two star rating. I contacted my doctor to get a referral over to Renown Hematology. Same day they got the referral they called me for appoint in TWO DAYS. I left my referral over at CCS to see how long it was going to take them to get back to me. After seeing Renown Hematology I was scheduled for a bone marrow extraction in 8 days. I received notice yesterday that I was indeed cancer free. Today, 48 days since getting my referral, CCS called to make my first appointment with doctor. 48 days after getting a referral from Renown Hemotoloty to be told cancer free; testing and cancer free diagnosis. Wow. Urgent is not a word in SSC vocabulary apparently. Shorthanded was in their vocabulary which should not have been told to me and 48 days later if I did have an aggressive cancer I still wouldn't know it because I would only have had a doctors appointment in who knows how many days. I know I don't write reviews but in this instance our life could depend on these doctors I feel compelled to write this review. In 2020 I had breast cancer and was referred to Dr. Reganti, I have been that person who has had Severe reactions to my cancer medication. I felt not heard, dismissed and talked over. I can't understand that the fact that if you as a patient don't feel comfortable with your referred doctor Cancer Care Specialists holds you almost hostage to transfer care to another doctor in their practice. I recieved a new referral from my primary care physician in mid September. I called after 2 weeks to see the status of this transfer referral and was told I would need to WAIT UNTIL THE BOARD APPROVED THE TRANSFER TO A NEW DOCTOR which would not take place until reviewed the end of OCTOBER. How utterly crazy is that, to think I have to wait for a board approval to change doctors. On Monday I had a call.....and was told the board approved my transfer and that my next appoint would be in December ( which would have been my followup appointment with Dr. Reganti) with Dr Bowman. I immediately called to confirm what was going on and was given to a voice mail for Christie, I left a message relaying the information I just received and asked for a call back. Today I called once again... spoke to the operator who spoke to Christie and now was told that I have to wait until a Dr. Sighn signed off on the paperwork he was out the entire week at the hospital. I have not been on any medication since beginning of September. I am anxious and concerned my quality of life is caught up in red tape, egos, and at this point dismissal. Awful! No respect for your time doctor talks to you like you're a moron.... Twice they scolded my mom for not getting labs done before her cancer injection. They call to schedule your appointments but don't inform you of what you need to do prior until the doctor scolds you for not being prepared. I have worked in a medical office and I would prepare my charts to make sure every patient had everything they and the doctor needed before bringing in a patient and wasting everyone's time. My mom only speaks Spanish and they have staff there who speak Spanish and still do not explain anything at all. They're rude with no compassion.... You can't leave a message for an MA you have to leave it with the operator... no calls back.... My Dogs have better care than what this office has to offer.... read more

"Always late specialists" that's what they should be called. They are never on time. The MA's are curt and I have no trust in their competency skills. Patients are doubled booked and have to wait outside in the heat to be seen or sit in the over crowded waiting room. Oncologists and nurses over worked, so it seems like your appointment is rushed. At least the nurses who administer the drugs make your treatment a little bit better. I Don't have confidence in all decisions at this facility but this is the only place my insurance will cover. If you can seek treatment elsewhere. read more

Don't go here. Go somewhere else. I feel like Dr Juan Cattoni is trying to get me back to my primary care as fast as possible. He's not engaged in my treatment and he talks so fast I can't understand whats going on, he makes my head spin. He said that a PET could be warranted but that Insurance would probably deny so he wasn't going to request it. At this point I feel it's not up to him, if he feels something is necessary he should request it and give insurance an opportunity to deny treatment. I went to the ER and tried to send the center an email and no one got back to me. No one from their office called about another procedure that he requested and was denied by insurance. This office is running on autopilot and if your blood work doesn't indicate an immediate action they don't know what to do. I've attempted to call Wes after he left a voicemail and he's avoiding me. State of the art facility with caring and educated medical staff. Very busy, fast paced environment but the office does their best to remain friendly including the administrative staff, who are always willing to go above and beyond to help and accommodate patient needs and requests. It is located in a growing area with access to other doctor's offices as well. read more

Avoid this Oncology practice. They are not in the patient care business. I have seen 2 physicians there and have quickly determined that their only goal is to turn around the rooms as quickly as possible. No continuity of care, no followup, extremely poor scheduling practices, dismissive demeanor, high staff turnover etc. I would imagine the "5 star" reviews here are either fake or paid reviewers. read more

These Doctors are very well trained and are current on the latest developments in cancer management. The staff are friendly, compassionate and make my visits for treatment tolerable. I am so appreciative that I found these guys. I especially like the fact that the Doctors collaborate and discuss treatment options and share ideas on each others patients with each other and university treatment centers so you end up with the best care possible. I can't even begin to explain how awful this place is. 2 1/2 months ago we had a visit here with Dr. Ambika, where he gave my mothers diagnosis of stage 3 esophageal cancer. First off, he didn't look at my mom once during the entire visit. He could have at least acknowledged that she was in the room. Then after giving us this awful news he gives us a time line (1 week) to get all of these appointments scheduled with other doctors before he goes on vacation (which he was happy to tell us at least 5 times). I'm sorry but I didn't really care about his vacation timeline. Of course we had questions about everything, which I am sure can be overwhelming for an oncologist but he literally backed out of the room in the midst of our questions and says, "You can just speak with my assistant." He was a completely heartless doctor and the fact that he couldn't even look my mom in the face was complete disrespect to her and my family. My sister asked the front office to file some FMLA paperwork on the way out for her which they said they would get done "right away." After calling about it multiple times we never heard a word about it. Here we are 2 1/2 months later, my mother unfortunately passed away and I called the office this morning to inform them of her passing. They said that they would make a note in the chart for me. About an hour ago I heard from my sister saying that Dr. Ambika's office had called stating that her FMLA paperwork was ready for her to pick up. I can't say anything about the other doctors who work for Cancer Care Specialists, but if you hear that your doctor is going to be Ambika, ask to be reassigned to someone else. People who have cancer should be cared for better than that. I wish I could give this place zero stars. read more
