(See my review of NV Orthopedics and Paul Shonnard). Dr. CINELLI was FIRED BY HIS PRIMARY!! And he is a physician for Western Surg! A cutter! Who does that??!! Also, a lady here in the waiting room with me 'felt like' she was fired by her oncologist. Like, go have cancer somewhere else and try not to die while you are at it. Seriously right now. So. Doctor Larrs Webb Doctor Webb is a general Surgeon working with Western Surgical, in Reno Nevada who specializes in bariatric surgery, minimally invasive surgery and general surgery. I was referred to Dr Webb to repair an issue with a previous surgical incision. I have EDS and am new to the Reno area, so finding someone who understands this disease, was great! Dr. Webb is a kind and knowledgeable surgeon. He is through, listens well, very attentive and will respond when you have questions or issues. Dr. Thomas is offensive, abrasive and abrupt. Never have I experienced a doctor like this. I paid a copayment and the insurance company paid for me to be abused by him and give me no info that helped me or give pertinent info of my condition. I tried to soften the moment by saying he should understand that I have been suffering for many years. His response was that the person in the next room could be dying! I walked out as I could tell nothing else could be said. I obviously asked questions that bothered him and rubbed him wrong. I am of the belief that doctors should rise above this. I have had many doctors since an appendix rupture in 2015. All have been special, helpful and wonderful. I don't know why Dr. Thomas had to be so abusive. I have read on the internet that my condition is extremely rare. Dr. Thomas stated it is not rare or even an issue. He was wrong, last Friday I went to the ER with an intestinal obstruction. Dr. Harris is probably one of the best surgeons on the planet. Once I had my mammo and ultrasound done he was ready to remove the mass. No insurance and no funding to help with something that "may or may not" be cancerous. They directed me to access to health and I paid about 20% of what I would have had to pay otherwise. The office staff is very organised, the office is clean and Dr. Harris himself called to tell me the final results were benign!! I have no clue how they have any negative reviews. Been trying to make an appointment for 3 weeks, they don't answer their phone or return calls. Very lazy and uncaring.

Came in for pain, bleeding, and a lump. Was paired with Dr. Thomas. He did a physical/visual inspection, and told me his diagnosis, and that surgery would be the treatment. I had never heard of the diagnosis that he was given, and surgery is serious, and there are a lot of things up in the air in my life that could affect when I could get the surgery and if I would still be living in Reno to get the second part of the surgery with him, so I asked a lot of questions. At first, he seemed patient and listened to my questions, but then he clearly got annoyed and instead of answering my last question, said something along the lines of "I don't understand why we are disagreeing". I was caught off guard. I said, I'm not disagreeing, I'm asking questions to try and understand. I have ADHD, a lot of other health problems, and am on the spectrum, plus I was just trying to get as many details as possible so that I could decide whether I wanted to get the surgery or not. Whether it was worth it or not. He even said he thought I should see the other doctor in his practice instead of him. I shut down, stopped asking questions, stopped trying to understand, started to cry and just wanted to get out of the office. I am allowed to ask as many questions as I flipping want when it comes to my body and possibly getting surgery on my body. It might not come across in my writing, but I was in the room, and I interacted him. It was clearly brushing me off and made me feel bad for asking him questions. Like I didnt just drive 35 minutes to get this serious issue checked out. It was basically a total waste because now I'm going back to get the exact same examination from another doctor, if I have money for gas then. I barely had gas for this trip. And im obviously going to feel less comfortable asking questions the next time I am here, since it was met with rudeness and disdain this time. So perhaps I'll just have to deal with pain, bleeding, and bumps for the rest of my life. I just had a man I don't know stick his finger up my butt for nothing, and I've left in a foul mood with a sore butthole, when I showed up in a very positive mood. His staff and the front desk staff were all very friendly and helpful. Here's hoping I can afford to make this trip AGAIN. And have it not be a waste, or upset like this time. read more

Our pediatrician referred us to pediatric surgeon Dr. Frieda Hulka regarding a lump on my two year old daughter's back. We arrived on time (not early) for our appointment and there were very few people in the waiting room. Chairs had been taped off because COVID. We waited 75 minutes before being called back to an exam room. If you have or have ever had a toddler, you know why this is annoying. During that time, the waiting room filled up to pretty much 100% capacity; people were sitting in chairs that had originally been taped off. Now we are in the exam room. Med assistant comes in and does her thing, and then tells me the doctor will be in soon. I don't know how long we waited exactly, but I would say the doctor was in "soon." Dr. Hulka comes in and she's all business. Nice, very knowledgeable and thorough, but for a "pediatric" surgeon she didn't really engage my child. Not a big deal. Prognosis: likely a slow growing fatty tumor that needs to be removed. Dr. Hulka advises us to return to the waiting room and wait for Whitney to call us back for scheduling. Now the waiting room is standing room only, my child has been at this doctors office for nearly 2 hours and she's freaking out. I waited 5 minutes before deciding we couldn't wait for Whitney any longer. I asked the receptionist to have Whitney call me. Well, she didn't. I ended up calling the office myself and scheduling. Surgery day comes! Not much to say here really. Dr. Hulka performed a perfect removal. It was remarkably fast with no issues. Our follow up appointment was one week post op. A couple days before our appointment, the office called asking if we would be willing to do a virtual appointment. I thought, oh yeah! Maybe I won't have to wait so long with my toddler. This appointment wasn't super eventful, but I will say that my appointment was at 3:15pm and we didn't "see" Dr. Hulka until like 3:45pm. A vast improvement and less annoying being at home. Overall I give my experience with WSG and Dr. Hulka 4 stars. Sure, the office/virtual visits were less than ideal but what truly matters is the quality of the surgery, so I'm only docking one star. read more

My husband was told to arrive for his surgery today at 5:30pm and the hospital calls at 6 am where are you? They don't even know what they are doing! My husband did bowel prep and took a CoVid test and they couldn't even have the dr get him in later today since they are the ones at fault for telling us to be there at 5;30pm. Now my husband has to go through all the prep again thanks to their inconsiderate and unorganized office. This was Dr. Thomas by the way he refused to do my husbands surgery today knowing he did all the pre surgical prep. You are a file on a desktop, a poorly managed file, not a real person with immediate surgical needs. Made appointment to see doctor about my hernias. When you pull up they "corral you like a farm animal" into numbered slots. You are not allowed to go inside until they call you - just sit in your car. Went inside and the check-in woman nearly wouldn't let me see the doctor because she didn't have my Health Savings Account Credit Card on file - was that my fault? Saw the doctor who was a nice guy. He told me that they would contact me to arrange next steps to diagnose the hiatal hernia. That was the last I heard from them over a month ago. read more

In June 2021, I went to the Hawthorne ER with abdominal pain. I was soon after, careflighted to Renown. As I had been medicated for my pain with Morphine I hadn't been thinking quite clearly. I had a previous gastric bypass and realized I shouldn't have allowed the blind NG stick that had been performed before the flight. During the flight I remembered this and was set to discuss removal of the NG tube with the physician I was to meet in the ER. Dr. Crapko walked in and I started to explain why I believed the tube should be removed and that it should never have been placed to begin with. He disagreed with every point I attempted to discuss. I started crying but continued to plead with him to remove the tube. Patients have the right to refuse treatment. However, he started to grow frustrated with my crying and ordered me to be chemically restrained with Versed. I had not been rude or belligerent. I was simply pleading for what could easily have been my life. I was medicated against my will and due to the medication effects don't remember what exactly happened after that. I do remember the tube coming out although I don't remember pulling it but I was sedated so who knows. When I regained consciousness, I was in a hospital room. Dr. Crapko entered the room and informed me that the tube would have to be replaced. "You have no choice", we're his exact words. Again he denied me of my right to refuse care. Not wanting to be restrained and medicated again, I agreed and the tube was placed, this time thick red blood was coming from my nose and draining into the suction cannister. Later, another provider came to see me and asked about my pain. I informed her I was only using it to deal with the pain from the tube. She discontinued the tube. I left the hospital against medical advice as I didn't feel safe after that. I cry everyday when I think about how Dr. Crapko treated me. As a retired RN myself, I know that Dr. Crapko had violated my rights as well as the law in his highly unethical treatment of me. I pray no one else ever has to suffer at his hands as I did. read more

I unfortunately got diagnosed with stomach cancer in November of 2020. I was immediately referred to a oncologist who then referred me to Dr. Penner. I was a bit nervous considering i haven't read the best reviews but I'm so glad i didn't switch doctors. This man is god send!! He saved my life and not only that he's very professional, and his surgeon skills are just impeccable. I had to have my whole stomach removed and while no one wants a huge scar on their stomach i can officially say this is the best it could have looked. Just remember people rarely leave comments when they are happy with service but usually always when unhappy. I say if you have Dr. Penner that you give him a chance because he truly is one amazing doctor. read more

Sadly, there is only one pediatric doctor that performs the procedure that my grandson needed and WSG was where she worked. I had issues from the second I received a referral to them. The scheduler, Whitney, has a very bad attitude. She should never been placed in a customer facing role. Filled out paper work online (nice touch) and arrived early for our appt. but had to wait an additional 45 mins to see the doctor for 3 mins. The Dr.'s MA acted like she was better than everyone as she walked ahead of us and spoke to us from 30 steps ahead. I have done the email survey and continue to receive it (do they really want me to keep telling them that I do t like them?) Given the opportunity to use them for another procedure I WOULD NOT! read more

I went in the ER this last week, after having several issues with my gallbladder over the years, it was such a relief when Dr. Crapko said it was time to remove it. Dr. Crapko was professional, courteous, and was great at explaining the procedure. I feel better the day after surgery than I have felt in years! I've tried to contact the office several times today, for a follow-up, with no return calls and the main lady who directs phone calls was a little grumpy with me for calling multiple times. This place is a scam. They'll tell you that if your body mass index is too high they won't do surgery. I'm a thick dude. I'm not fat. I'm not horribly out of shape. I ride dirt bikes and go for regular walks. They wanted to refer me to their bariatric surgeon to get my weight down so that I could have the other hernia surgery. Are you freaking kidding me?? I'm not some huge obese person that needs bariatric surgery. These people just want to make money by doing unnecessary surgeries because they know I'm suffering in pain everyday from my hernia. As I was heading to my appointment. I started feeling nauseous. I was having a gallbladder attack. The very reason that I was being seen (gallbladder surgery). I checked in, and while waiting for my appointment - I realized that I was going to be sick to my stomach. I asked the front desk staff if they had a bathroom. They indicated one down the hall. Both of those bathrooms were occupied. I REALLY did not want to throw up in the hallway (onto the floor). I went back into the office and asked if they had something that I could throw up into. After being stared at blankly by one woman. The man who checked me in handed me a shallow emesis 'kidney' basin with some paper towels. He did not offer me a "barf bag" (they have these available at this doctors office as a nurse handed me -- one well after the fact). I asked if he had somewhere private that I could go. He then asked me to step in the PUBLIC hallway. I made my way back to the bathroom -- realizing that there was no way the container he gave me would contain what was coming. Fortunately, The bathroom was now open. I proceeded to violently throw up in this public bathroom. After finishing this unfortunate and unsavory task. I walked back into the office where the gentleman asked if I had to rinsed out the basin so that I could return it to him. What?!?! Had I vomited into this basin- would they have REUSED IT?!? It was plastic. That seems terribly unsanitary to me. The lack of ability for the staff to handle my minor medical issue (vomit) in a competent and compassionate manner was all of the information that I needed to know...I did NOT have surgery with this group. Nor would I ever consider working with them again. Despite NOT having surgery with this group, I have been sent multiple surveys to rate the experience with my surgery with these people. Today, I received an online survey -- I as I filled out the survey, I thought hey! let's make this review public. Thanks for the platform, Yelp! Don't even get me started on the rudeness of the schedulers... TLDR: Do NOT use these folks with your medical needs. Terrible service all around. read more

I was actually happy about getting surgery to put an end to the last few years of a super painful issue I've been dealing with. After being referred by a specialist to this place, I got an appointment quickly and the person on the phone was friendly and efficient. I got there and everyone seemed a little cold, sarcastic and stuck up from the moment I walked in. I give it 1 star because the medical assistant that took me back at least attempted to be nice. The doctor walked in, crossed his arms asked me what was wrong. After starting into space for a long minute he looked at me like I was an idiot and told me if I had a flare up again to go to the hospital and they'd take out whatever needed to be done. Obviously they sent me to him for that reason. A complete waste of time and rude treatment. I'd never recommend this place to anyone. read more

DO NOT USE THIS GROUP. All about a paycheck. Insensitive, cold, do NOT give a rats ass about their patients. IF choose to go with this group, get everything in writing from the exact procedure, should need to stay in hospital-how many days minimum and what should be able to do prior to being able to go home, to exact meds - how many-how many mg per pill & exact aftercare directions. I was given a different operation than discussed, I was supposed to stay 3 days but was notified in recovery room I had to go home do to not enough staff. I vomited and passed out from pain in recovery but non English speaking travel nurses couldn't help cuz IV had been remove. I hadn't made arrangements for after surgery help until 3 more days, after my post op hospital stay. I was given 5 - 5mg Oxycodon for 5-3" incisions across my abdomen. Ridiculous. Only my second surgery but a simple meniscus repair a few months before gave me 15-- 25mg Oxycodon. Never had to fill cuz no pain. I was in recovery longer for my knee than major abdominal surgery. read more

So at first I had a good experience here. Met with Dr. Wright she explained the procedure to me and got me all scheduled. Had that surgery one Oct 19th and post on Oct 25th. I developed cellulitis on Saturday and went to ER Sunday. The ER dr gave me meds and one of of them my pharmacist told me to call to Dr. Wright to see if she even wanted me to take the diflucan cause of how it was written and dispensed along with my antibiotic. I had called the office to speak with her and was told by staff she was in surgery and said ok maybe you could give her a message to call me later so I can discuss this with her and told the girl what happened well the girl decided to page the dr in the middle of surgery (which was not needed this was not an urgent matter) and I got yelled at by Dr. Wright. I was just doing what I was told to by the pharmacist. So sorry I did what I was told. In the future I don't think I will come to her again if I even develop the same issue I had surgery for. I'll go elsewhere. I don't need to be yelled at by my dr for doing what I was told to do. And one would think when you call your surgeon and let know you have infection at the surgery site they would want you to come into their office and see it, at least that what my last drs. have done but not this one. Never got a call Monday morning when I called Sunday night and left message about this at all no concern what so ever. read more

Had multiple terrible experiences with this group and want to outline what happened: 1. A couple days before my hernia surgery I got a little frightened and wanted to ask my Dr. a few questions to calm my nerves. Well little did I know my Dr. was way to busy to answer his patients questions. I thought this was very unsettling that a Dr. wouldn't take the time to talk to his patient before a surgery so I cancelled my surgery. 2. Multiple scheduling errors occurred; A. The receptionist called to schedule my surgery after I already scheduled it. B. When I read over my paperwork from Renown Hospital I noticed my surgery was scheduled for 11am instead of 1pm. C. I received a post op appt. call after I cancelled my surgery. Needless to say all these errors made me extremely nervous thinking if they can't schedule my appt. correctly how on earth will they do when I'm under the knife. I was treated like a number with a checkbook and not a human being. read more

Was referred here, waited one week to be accepted and two weeks to get an appointment for a biopsy , filled out the paperwork required online, arrived on time to the scheduled time only to be told the doctor can't see me because he has a meeting and I should have arrived 30 minutes earlier. I rearranged my schedule and cancelled classes to make this appointment. I left feeling disappointed. Never got to see the doctor. read more

After being diagnosed with thyroid cancer by Dr. Sharon Wright, I was taken to surgery two months later to have my thyroid removed. I was told by Dr. Wright that when I woke up from surgery I would be told the extent of any cancer spread/etc. as well as how many lymph nodes had had to be taken out. Not only did she never even assess or see me after surgery, but it wasn't until 24 hours later that she sent her NP into the hospital to assess me. This NP wasn't present for my surgery and as such, couldn't even tell me how many lymph nodes were removed or answer any of my other questions. Dr. Wright also failed to inform me that She clearly nicked or altogether removed my parathyroid glands during surgery. I'm two years out from surgery now and still suffering with being unable to regulate my calcium, which causes constant muscle twitches and tingling in my face. No follow up ultrasounds/scans were provided or scheduled. Having cancer is bad enough without having a doctor that doesn't care. I highly recommend you either stick to another office or avoid Dr. Wright for your surgical needs. read more

The office staff was incompetent. Couldn't tell me if they had billed my insurance just kept demanding money. The woman on the phone actually talked childish babble talk to me when I tried to give her my insurance information. After the first attempt I tried calling back just to give them the money and then get reimbursed from my insurance company and they wont even answer the phone. This summer, I unfortunately had to have surgery. Come on who ever really wants to have surgery. Anyway, my experience was wonderful! I was tired and freaked out after being in hospitals for a week. I was transferred down to Renown for the purpose of surgery. I met my surgeon, Dr Uccelli, the night before and he explained the plan with all scenarios laid out...that's what freaked me out. Next morning he came and talked with me again, I cried, he spoke kind and comforting words and helped to ease my fear. Post surgery he came to see me after my daily chest X-rays. He let me know how things were looking, ask how I was feeling, let me know the game plan, etc. I don't think any of my other surgeons ever did that...this was my 4th type of surgery. My follow up appointments have been handled in the same pleasant manner. If I ever have to have surgery again, I will turn to this group again. If I ever have to recommend a surgeon or surgery center I will have no second thoughts about recommending Western Surgical Group and Dr. Uccelli. read more

I had a great expierence at Western Surgical. I was reffered for anti-reflux surgery about a month ago. Dr. Ganser answered all my questions (sometimes multiple times!) And gave me all the information I needed to make a decision. His PA, Curtis, really made the whole expierence top notch though. His bedside manner at the hospital and post op was outstanding. The staff was wonderful and always responded in a timely manner. I would absolutely recommend this practice for surgical needs. read more
