Definitely don't recommend this place on the weekends. The prices go way up because you don't have the regular lunch options. I'm not paying 20-25 bucks for lunch on a Saturday at 1:00 pm. It's pretty decent. My main complaint is that the chicken or steak does not have a lot of flavor, like they don't marinate or season it before cooking it. This is a very "American" Mexican restaurant. I've never been impressed with their food or their service. We went last week and they were watching soccer and drinking alcohol while they made themselves look busy by wiping down menus and rolling up silverware. They also messed up our order, twice. And my husband was drinking Mountain Dew but the server refilled it with sprite. And that was after we asked for refills. Then on top of it they messed up our check. My rice was cold when I received it, but my husband had no problems with his food. So I guess it's ok if your patient, but I'd rather go somewhere else for Mexican. read more

It's the best Mexican restaurant in Eau Claire. The price can compete with Taco Bell or Taco John's, very low prices on the food. I wouldn't get a taco anywhere in Eau Claire, but here. Why go to a fast food restaurant where they make a burrito by using a caulk gun to fill it, when you can get a homemade-fresh taco for the same price? I had the Carne Asada, it was cooked well, seasoned and very flavorful. Free drink refills (very necessary with the spicy food). Great salsa, though the ranch dressing dip they bring out with the chips needs to get 86'd, just serve the salsa. That stuff is gross. Perfect size portions, not huge and not small. Beans and rice were very tasty. One suggestion I have is concerning the tortillas; I would suggest making them fresh, like the chips. The Carne Asada, of course, comes with a side of three flour tortillas but they were served rolled up in aluminum foil and were not fresh. They stuck together and weren't warm enough. I have ate Mexican food from Boston to San Antonio on my travels, I would say this was above average compared to what I have seen. This is the third time I have ordered pick up from Cancun and it will be the last. The previous 2 times I had ordered cheese sauce and was charged for it but I didn't notice until we opened the bag at home to see that they forgot the cheese sauce in the order again! The distance to go back and get it was too far so that was that! Today we ordered 4 meals to pick up and when I got there I added the cheese and salsa then I was for sure to get it. Thought this would be great. I was wrong, the meals we were given were not what I have had at Cancun before. They were horrible. And you know how you would get chips and salsa and white sauce with your meal like you are served in the Restaurant. Well, you are given a bag of chips which is great and quite a few chips but the 2 containers of salsa and white sauce I would say are about 1 ounce each. Really!!!!!! The salsa and white sauce were about enough for 5 chips. The burrito de la Mesa comes with sour cream but I guess if you order it as take out it doesn't. I have never been so disappointed. A Regular, Dime-A-Dozen, Mexican Restaurant popular with the Locals. After hearing all the locals rave about the 'Amazing Mexican Food' here, I had to check it out. I was not impressed. I was satisfied and not wholly disappointed but this is comparable with the thousands of Mexican restaurants that exist all over the united states. The decor is nice, clean, and casual. We stopped in for desserts (specifically, the cheesecake chimichanga). We said we just wanted them to go, but they invited us to sit, and promptly brought chips. We ordered 5 different desserts (cheesecake, fried ice cream encased in corn flakes, carrot cake, flan, and the aforementioned dish). Was offered large dinner menu to look at and decided not to order food When ready to cash out he started lecturing me about $5.99 food minimum to get margarita special. First of all I aked for a margarita and my wife wanted a beer special ... we could only see that wed n thurs had specials so we asked him which ones he rattled off the beers she choose one and then when ordering. .. minutes later we get 2- 22 ounce beers placed In front of us!!! Well when I get it I notice nope it its ground beef ....then while sitting waiting because it was really busy a man came around and gave my wife a new beer, as we held out and waited and obviously being a bit annoyed at that point, I just got the bill and thoughthe let's go... well I look on bill and we were charged 16.00 for 3 beers when we thought they were 2.99 a piece ... we said to a gentleman what we noticedo and there was a mistake. .. he said OK hang on... then an older man says that is for domestic only, we replied the waiter named the beer when we asked what came with the special ... he reluctantly said fine I will take 1 off... at this point I'm mad because I didn't want a beer to begin with and would have paid that much for my margaritas I originally ordered... then going up to pay bill I had a coupon I found on Internet earlier that day that expired 06/01/2017 ... the young man looks at me with a smirk and says that expired may first!! We recently moved to the west side of Eau Claire and are becoming newly acquainted with our local dinner options. We are huge fans of Mexican food so we decided to run get Cancun tonight. I ordered the chicken Chimichanga dinner. The chimichanga was less than crispy, it had very little filling, and everything was bland. If I was blindfolded I wouldn't have been able to tell what I was eating. This includes the beans and rice, no flavor. I did not like the overly tomato tasting salsa either, and I love salsas. It's bad when the chips are the best thing about your meal, and your daughter's chicken strips look better than what you ordered. I might have to travel farther, but there is much better Mexican in the Chippewa Valley. read more

Make sure you verify your order when ordering carry out. I ordered a chicken chimichanga dinner which was 10.99, nachos fajitas which was 10.99 and a small cheese sauce which was $3.00. They said my total was $33.80. She said they attach a carry out fee of 60 cents but even then with tax it was still $7 heavy. She said she took off the carry out fee which brought it to $27.60 then she said my total was $29 and some change. It sounds pretty shady to me. Math just doesn't lie. First time at this location. My wife ordered loved her chicken fajitas and I ordered fish tacos. Drinks were served promptly and food was delivered fast. Fish tacos were good but not great. Biggest complaint of entire visit was lack of attention paid to our table by the wait staff. Not once were our waters refilled or was I asked if I wanted another beer. OK. So they were busy. That looked like a good thing. It took three requests to get water. I asked for a special margarita but got a HOUSE cheap margarita. The chips were hard and tasteless. My food came 3 minutes after the other person I ate with. Seemed odd. Then when it did come the chimichanga was not fried! It was rolled up but never deep fried or golden brown or warm. Apparently they forgot to make it and fry it! At that point it was not worth trying to get it corrected. The server should have realized the error. It was not covered with anything.
