Well judging from my Yelp list for 4-5 star restaurants this was the only Authentic Mexican place. It's in the back of a Mexican Grocer, so it was quite a surprise! They are a full-service dine-in restaurant, as opposed to a taqueria that we were expected based on the photos. But at the end of the day, it does amount to an insanely overpriced taqueria. $4 tacos when we're used to paying $2.50-3 in Minneapolis, and alambre for $14.99 when we're used to paying $8.99. A bottle of Jarritos is $2.50. Service is glacial, but very attentive and thorough. You do get free chips and salsa. We got Alambre with al Pastor (this choice was not on the menu, they were great. It's a different style than we're used to, skipping the pineapple and ham, but they were very good. The Al Pastor was very legit. This Alambre came with 4 tortillas, and being that we usually share Alambre, we order a pack of 4 extra for an extra $1.50. The kids quesadilla meal was an insane deal. The quesadilla was adult size, and it came with a full side of beans, a side salad, and a whole order of fries. Our total bill with tax and tip came to just under $30. All in all to find this place while being in Eau Claire was a win. If as in the Twin Cities I would have given four stars, losing a star for insane prices. But they seem to be the only authentic Mexican spot around. Due to the big portions, we had leftovers to boot. So if you're hankering for real Mexican and don't want the typical hamburger/pub joints, or the fake Mexican food, this is your stop. read more

After seeing a few posts from Nathan and Gemma, we decided to stop in today to check out what they have discovered. So glad we did! After walking through the market you enter a large dining area and seat yourself. Nothing special about the decor... it is all about the food here! And rightly so. I was pleasantly surprised to see lengua(beef tongue) in the menu and had to have that and Al Pastor(pork marinated in pineapple) in traditional tacos, cilantro, onions and lime... leave The dang lettuce and cheese off.. that's not for tacos. I want to try the barbacoa and other offerings of meat they have. They even an octopus dish! Kris ordered a chicken chimichanga with rice and beans. Chicken was moist and surprised well seasoned and tasty on the lengua! She surprised me by eating half the rice and beans, she ate half the beans which is not something she ever does and about half the rice. Take a chance and you will not be disappointed but pleasantly surprised. Continues to be our go to Mexican restaurant in the Chippewa Valley. read more

It is located in the back of the grocery, so if you walk in and think,what?, just keep walking to the back. Formerly the Taqueria Sandoval i have never been here. This place has the best authentic Mexican food around. Super simple place that you would find like in Chicago or even New Mexico where I lived for 10 years. The food was just amazing... !!! I cant wait to go back and try more items on the menu. Yum, yum, yum, YUM. I came across La Misma Luna when I noticed that the Mexican Supermarket I was looking for had a restaurant on the inside! I was very thankful for that, because they have some of the most authentic Mexican food in town! The prices are extremely fair, the staff are very courteous and helpful, and everything is super tasty. The best part? Came on a Wednesday night and had the place to ourselves. The service was good and food was relatively fast. I got the ancherro plate, it was good. Peppers weren't spicy and there wasn't much for spice on the meat, which was chewy. Husband got the steak ranchero and that had some spice but the steak was tough. Son got the steak chimmi and was ok with that too. I don't expect much from Mexican food in Eau Claire and thought this was as close to authentic as I've had but unfortunately there are more interesting places to go.
