You can tell you're in a decent Mexican restaurant when you walk in and many of the clientele are speaking Spanish. This wasn't our first time visiting this restaurant, and it won't be our last. They have an extensive menu that includes Mexican or Tex-Mex items, as well as American food. We walked in and chose our booth, and our drink orders were taken soon after. Warm chips and mild salsa arrived soon after. We took our time with the menu, eventually deciding on a fried shrimp plate ($12.99) and a meat quesadilla plate. Recommend that you skip this restaurant. Reason that we were the only people in a very large restaurant at 4pm. Food just wasn't good. Salsa tasted like it came out of a jar and chips were not homemade either. Iced tea tasted like water. Ordered 3 crispy tacos and a Pastor Plate. The chicken Taco was all right but the beef tacos were terrible - flavorless. Needed seasoning for both. Shells were prepackaged. There was enough lettuce and tomato for all 3 tacos provided. No rice or beans. The Pastor plate came with a soup bowl of pinto beans and some flour tortillas that had been reheated on a grill. The pastor meat was very stringy and looked unappetizing. The pinto beans were the star of this meal. Not sure if they were from a can and enhanced a bit or made from scratch. Service was also terrible and we were the only ones there. A few employees were standing around a bar type area talking since there wasn't any business. Waitress never came back after delivering the order. No check delivered. My husband left and nobody brought a bill even then. Not my style to dine and dash but was tempted. Called over several times to check out. Dropped in for lunch while running an errand in Port A. Place was packed, but I found an empty booth. Service was prompt and friendly. They were still serving breakfast tacos, but not plates. I got bean egg cheese as well as a pastor. The pastor was great, hit, plenty of meat, and hit just right with cilantro and onions. The breakfast Taquito left something to be desired. I was hoping to get some to go breakfast from à spot not far from this restaurant then was told they didn't do to go orders so I called Cancun Mexican restaurant and I'm so glad I did! My family and I loved every bit of the food and not to mention the service while calling and picking up my food was great! I wish we would have eaten breakfast here when we got into town but will definitely be back when we're back in port a! So the food here is pretty good but the service is spotty. Went through the drive through and pretty sure they lost my order. Took my money and was asked to pull up. Ended up waiting in the heat as 4 cars behind me got my food. Not like it was a big order...4 tacos. This has happened before. Not sure the food is much better than the other restaurant in town who gets you in and out quick. Local customer who probably won't be back. I don't normally leave reviews, but it's worth noting that the food and service here were pretty bad. In the past, we've just gotten fairly reliable breakfast tacos. I'm hoping this time I don't get food poisoning. I ordered the shrimp enchiladas over the phone and the server I spoke to was pretty short with me and basically hung up after getting my name. The man at the takeout window was nice enough, but I regret leaving a tip. The enchiladas came with the wrong sauce, the shrimp were rubbery and still had bits of their tails on, and the tortillas in the enchiladas were exceptionally dry. The service and the food have left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I suspect they survive due to how over-packed other restaurants get during the tourist seasons. read more

In Port A for a family trip. Wanted to check out a breakfast spot and wanted to try this place since I saw SOME good reviews. I won't be coming back again. The eggs were dry in my plate with migas. Tortillas are homemade which is cool but if the food isn't good then it doesn't matter. My husband also had a breakfast plate (chilaquiles) and he said his eggs were way overcooked and dry and crumbly too. The potatoes were also sad looking. Also, when we walked in, we were confused if we were supposed to just sit ourselves down or wait for a hostess or waitress to seat us. Everyone just looks at you like you're dumb if you're not a local. Maybe find a hostess or put a sign up saying "SEAT YOURSELF." My suggestion atleast. read more

Love this place. My husband and I shared a large shrimp cocktail and had their sweet tea the first day were arrived at port a. Everything was so good!!!! We were in port a for 4 days and we ended up going back another day. I had a taco & enchilada plate and my husband had a beef fajita plate. Once again everything was delicious. Worst service we have ever had. First, there isn't a hostess to seat you. You have to fight for a table to seat yourself. We were a party of 10. Took forever to get a waitress to take our drink order and food. Once we ordered, food never came. We waited over 45 minutes for our food. As it happens, they packaged our food to go. So it sat at the counter for over 30 minutes. My son is diabetic. We had to chase down the waitress to find his food and that's when she discovered It had been packaged to go. Then she asked if we could eat it out of the to go containers or if we wanted the food plated. Never received an apology for the mix up. We had to chase.her down for drink re-fills. Sat ourselves at a clean booth, within 2 minutes time, Javier came and took our drink order and dropped menus, someone dropped chips and salsa off and another person came and dropped off two more salsas. There are essentially two Mexican places on the island. This is the one you want. The chips are really tasty (as is the "hot" hot sauce), the service is fine, there's free refills on sodas, and you can order breakfast tacos well into the afternoon. No, it's not the best Mexican or tex-mex you'll have in your life (or even week since this is South Texas after all) but it's better than average and certainly lightyears ahead of your other Mexican dining option in Port A. read more

We stopped in for dinner one evening and we came back for breakfast the next morning because we enjoyed the food and service. My wife got a shrimp on the grill plate with bell pepper, onions, tomatoes and rice, beans and guacamole. I enjoyed a beef fajita burrito. We sampled each other's and thought they were tasty, mine was slightly better. Breakfast consisted of a couple western omelets, ham, mushrooms, bell pepper, onions, and monterrey cheese. Went for breakfast and loved everything. Casual and comfortable vibe. The servers are friendly and helpful, my coffee was always full. The prices are the best on the island and the food does not disappoint. Menudo was prepared perfectly and not greasy. The Migas plate had large portions and so good.
