I go to Candice exclusively (and my own mother's a stylist.) She's not only highly skilled but has raw, natural talent and good taste. She's confident, practiced and offers unparalleled attention to detail. Oh and the shampooing is so relaxing. I'd pay just for that. The atmosphere in her new space at Lazuli is coming together quite nicely. It's pleasant, tasteful and has good natural light. The mirror is awesome - you'll see what I mean. Candice is great. She first cut my hair while she was at Hairspray. In spite of Hairspray's off-putting ambience, I continued to go to Hairspray because Candice was THAT good. My hair got all long and sad when she left. It was a dark period. But then I found out that she started renting a space at Lazuli, and my hair is all happy again. She's located in this cute hair stylist psuedo-co-op salon on Ives. She does awesome work and my hair always grows out great. She's super meticulous and always bangs out a great haircut (pun unintended, but i'll take it). You could tell her exactly what you want or leave it all up to her. I've been a Candice customer for at least a year now, and I recently visited her at her new salon on Ives street. It is a beautiful, stylish and relaxing space that immediately puts one at ease. She is, without question, the best stylist I've known. And I know, because I have a head full of ridiculous cowlicks that she manages to tame like no other. In addition to the precision, attentiveness, and pride she takes to her craft, Candice is excellent at knowing what I want. This is an impressive feat, since I do not have the vocabulary to describe the look I'm after, per se. Somehow, she interprets my vague requests and grunts and always delivers. Candice does an AMAZING job. I went in not really knowing what to do with my hair, but she was able to figure out exactly what would fit my style. Her place is located in a beautiful little neighborhood on the East Side of Providence, and when you walk in you get this really cool and relaxing vibe. Her place is really clean, laid back, and unlike any place I've ever been to before. She took me in almost immediately as I walked in the door and got started right away on my hair. The whole process only took about 45 minutes from the time I walked in the door to the time I left. She was super friendly the entire time, and when I left I felt like a whole new person. She did such a fantastic job on my hair, and the price to get it done was really reasonable. Candice is the best hairstylist ever! I discovered her at Hairspray, and I'm so glad I did, because I will follow her wherever she goes. My hair has never looked and felt so good, I have adorable bangs for the first time ever, I get complimented all the time, and I love it so much that I send my husband to her too! The way she cuts his hair looks incredible, and it grows out so subtly that he doesn't need it cut as often as he did before. There is nothing more exciting that watching someone do something they LOVE, and Candice loves hair more than anyone I've ever met. She knows the language of hair and I love talking to her about it. I have followed Candice through various formal and informal salon configurations for the better part of the decade because she is worth the effort. Hands down, she is the most skillful, attentive, and creative stylist I have ever encountered in my life. I have lived in places ranging from Minneapolis to Portland to France, but I keep coming back to Candice for her innovative approach to hair and customer care. Candice begins every appointment with a thorough and thoughtful discussion of your expectations and her ideas. If you give her the creative freedom to work her magic (which I highly recommend doing!) she will give you a style that will exceed your wildest expectations. I have gone to her for everything from a basic trim to elaborate, exotic coloring projects to a beautiful style for my wedding. I have never been remotely disappointed. Best of all, you never get the impression that she is trying to shake you down. She has great product and color recommendations if you want them, but she does not make you feel guilty for walking away with simply what you came in for. She also doesn't shame you for not coming in for several months. She still greets you by name, remembers your preferences, and goes well above and beyond the call of duty every time you step into her chair. Candice was fantastic. She not only cut my hair and blow dried it to perfection but gave me good tips on simple achievable styles to do at home myself. She doesn't push products she doesn't believe in and seems like a genuine person. I would recommend to anyone in Providence. Candice is the most talented hairstylist I've ever had. I came in with overwhelmingly long, thick, hard-to-manage hair, and I walked out with a beautifully layered cut that made me feel like a million bucks! I went to Candice for the first time last week. She's a little pricier than the men's barbershops nearby, but also a little better (though honestly I probably can't tell that well). I felt like she did a great job with my hair and gave me some advice about taking care of it. Candice doesn't take credit cards so make sure to bring cash. She said she was moving to a location on Angell and Gano in the coming weeks, which is actually a plus for me, but make sure you head to the right place after the new year. read more

Pros: great location Friendly staff Nice interior Parking Cons: Not what I expected. I brought a picture in and I left without it looking like anything. I have tricky hair to cut . The fade got messed up the fade and to fix it she kept going higher to try to blend. A 45 min hair cut ended up being 2 hours trying to fix her mistakes. I wouldn't recommend going here. I like the effort of trying to fix it but I would have preferred the haircut I wanted. read more

I did a lot of research after I discovered that Elaine had left Hairspray, and the stylist business - found Candice who had worked with Elaine and who has a similar thoughtful and attentive way of working. At Chat Noir there is music but it is not loud and pulsating. The space is beautiful - Candice did all the work, starting with a gutted basement space. I had an appointment with Candice months ago and booked with her because of her raving reviews on yelp. It was my first time cutting my hair short and because of her amazing reviews I put my trust in her to chop off about 5 inches. In terms of the actual haircut I received she was wonderful! She truly knows how to take direction and leave you with your desired result. Because my hair was so damaged she cut off a little bit more than I had wanted initially, but it came out great and has grow out into a fabulous cut. She also uses many different products and gives recommendations based on your hair type and needs. The only negative about my appointment was that she was about an hour late and had a lot of personal issues going on that day and I feel that as a professional you leave those things at the door when you're at work.
