So one of my close friends referred me to vanessa's hair salon because I wanted to dye my whole head of hair purple. I naturally have really dark hair so this was a lot of work to do in one day. Jake was amazing!!! From the moment I walked in, I immediately felt comfortable and at ease. There was 3 things that I really liked, no LOVE about Vanessa's hair salon. 1. They are VERY CLEAR about wearing a mask which is such a big thing to me bc I have close family members I live with that have compromised immune systems so it was really nice to know that vanessa and jake made sure to take their customers safety into consideration. Everything was clean and spacious. 2. Jake knew how to take my dark hair (which was a mix of dark brown, black, reddish-orange hair that i attempted to bleach and dye myself) and lighten it using bleach without destroying my hair. My hair feels soft, strong, and healthy!! Plus it looks absolutely fabulous!!! I spent almost an entire day getting my hair done. Throughout the whole process, Jake and Vanessa made sure to check in with how I was doing. I had to bleach my whole head in order for the purple color to show up and Jake was able to lift and lighten my hair as much as possible without damaging my hair. This means so much to me bc a year and a half ago I let a different hair salon bleach my hair and it all fell out because it was bleached improperly. Jake knows the CORRECT way to bleach and dye someone's hair!!! 3. The third thing I really liked was that I immediately felt at ease and comfortable from the minute I walked in. I felt like I was hanging out with my best friends the entire time I was there. I dont plan on going to any other salon again. In fact, I cant wait to bring my mom and sister in so they can experience the amazing magical work of these hair magicians!! Plus they even do waxing. I got my eyebrows done and they look amazing!!! Vanessa's vibe makes u feel like youre a lifelong friend & Jake deff knows what he's doing to the point where he took me out of my comfort zone and I am in LOVE with the results. I have been coming here for years and they do a great job! Vanessa is always entertaining and the salon has a great vibe and energy to it. Hands down they do blonde and highlights better than any salon around. Have tried salons in Boston and Newport and however they do it, it comes out natural and looks beautiful - not the streaky lines like some salons do it. I have been going for about 2 months now since my 5 year long commitment to another place ended because my stylist left the business! Anyway I LOVE my new stylist. Her hair cuts are amazing. I hardly have to do anything to my hair now, just dry it! Which is great for me cuz I'm lazy! They do take alot of walk it's so it's def a 3-4 hour " appt" but I go on Saturdays and I have the time so it's cool with me! You will not be , in and out. Vanessa's What was supposed to be a FUN and SPECIAL day where a little girl was making her first trip to a 'real salon' turned into a baffling and uncomfortable encounter in a needlessly hostile environment. Why? My wife called Vanessa's salon to see if they had any appointments for our 7 year old girl. They said they did and were able to fit them in within the hour. When my wife arrived, she found that the salon was playing a very nasty sort of rap music, with plenty of F-bombs, N-words, and mean sounding guys describing in graphic detail what they were planning to do to the "Ho's". After consulting with another mom who was (uncomfortably) waiting nearby with her daughters, my wife discreetly asked the manager if they could change the music to something a little less rough. The salon owner responded to this reasonable request with a loud, long, dramatic, arm waving harangue about how the request was unreasonable, this was not a "family friendly place", and on and on... Well, if that's the case, why didn't you SAY SO when we called and told you we were bringing in a child? We would have gladly gone to one of the other area salons and saved ourselves a run-in with insanity. How hard is it to change the channel? Of course, there is no reasoning with a woman who thinks hard-core porn-rap is appropriate for a mixed audience (or any audience), but one might think that as proprietress she could have at least mustered a bit of professional grace to keep peace and create a welcoming environment for her new customers. Nope. I imagine she would reply to this comment that she, "does not need our business," but an EMPTY CHAIR on a Saturday afternoon two weeks before a holiday tells a different story. Whatever success her salon might have, it could certainly be MORE successful if she would respect the diversity of her customers and not treat them like enemies. She just lost a lifetime of cuts, colors, up-do's, blowouts, proms and weddings from this family and our friends. Over time, her tantrum will needlessly cost her a small fortune. The salon attempts to be "fun" and "hip" - but it wasn't "fun" for my family, and it is possible to be "hip" without being rude and nasty. It is amazing that such a vulgar place exists in the shadow of a school and two churches. Just a baffling and depressing encounter all the way around. Beware. Sorry. Zero stars. read more

I have been going to Vanessa for many, many years. The salon is always very clean and fun. Lots of laughter and camaraderie between the hairdressers. I always got a great haircut, no one ever does layering as perfectly as Vanessa. She strives for perfection and always makes you take the time to get a blow dry so she can see how well the color and the haircut have come out. The salon is always very festive on the holidays. No no no no no. Don't go here. First of all, as soon as I sat in a chair I was told I was a hot mess. I wanted to go ash blonde. I went to show the girl some pictures but only got to show her one and she said she couldn't go that light (which I understand, and had more pictures of darker blondes to show her but got cut off.) I had hair down to my bum and now it's all the way up to my shoulders. I knew I would have to cut some off but not THAT MUCH. And to make it worse she told me it was only like, half and inch to an inch that she cut. If she had been straightforward with me and told me beforehand how much had to be cut I would've been fine, but I ended up having a complete panic attack. I recently had a baby and have felt very self-conscious about the way I look. Which is why I saved up to get my hair professionally done for my birthday. I tried quietly asking my friend who was with me to get my anxiety meds and the stylist said "Yea get her a Xanax, she needs to be medicated." I got there around 2:00/2:30 pm and left around 8:30. I never got a bathroom break or a break to get something to eat so I ended up getting very dizzy and uncomfortable. She caught my hair in the back of the blow dryer and had to take a piece out, when I was under the big dryer the foil fell and was burning my forehead, and she kept splashing me in the face at the sink to the point where my eyes were getting irritated. She was so rough with me that I woke up the next day with bruises all around the back of my neck, and I was sore in my neck and back from her pulling my hair so rough (and let me remind you, I have a baby who LOVES hair, so I'm used to getting my hair pulled pretty hard) I had to hold on the chair handles because it was so rough. There's so much more I could go on about, but it's not even worth it. Definitely not coming here again. My hair came out yellow, and I can't stand yellow-blonde, I asked for dark roots so I don't have to get it done all the time but they bleached the roots too. Whatever, I already have an appointment with a family friend's salon to make a game plan to fix this mess. read more

I have been going here to get my hair cut and colored since they have been open. The salon is always more than just a place to get your hair done, it is just a fun place to be.
