PLEASE read reviews before booking her!! She canceled my bridal shower makeup the day before causing me to call everyone I know to find a makeup artist. She also cancelled my trial makeup twice and when she finally did it, the worst lashes were used that looked like they were from the dollar tree and I looked beyond orange. I noticed an orange look on her instagram but this was excessive. She also was extremely unwelcoming, she had to play music during the trial because how awkward it was. If you are meeting new people regularly, it would help to be more friendly and welcoming. My dad walked in and she didn't even acknowledge him. Honestly her work was pretty good , but I had the worst experience with her as a bride . I will say she really ruined my morning the day of my wedding . I had booked a bridal trail and wedding make . A month before my trial I was contacted by her assistant that she would no longer be able to take me as she had double booked . I was wrong ; day of my wedding we were supposed to start makeup at 5:30 , 3 bridesmaids 2 mother of the brides and myself. She also was so in patient she had one of my other bridesmaids go in her chair that hadn't booked with her because she wanted to hurry up and be done because she was already there .Then bumped the bridesmaids that was supposed to get her makeup done with her out of her spot because she got there at 6:30am. I regret to write a one star review but my hope is that it provide insight for other brides to make an informed decision about who to hire for their wedding day. I hired Candice for my wedding day makeup. Part of the agreement was Candice would perform a trial on me to make sure I liked the look for the big day day. Unfortunately I had many communication issues with Candice. I tried to text her, email her and call her for months leading up to my trial and didn't hear back until the day of the trial. When Candice finally did arrive she was an hour late and barely spoke a word to me I wasn't sure why she was mad at me when she was the one who was late. My makeup was so orange that it didn't match my neck or body. Candice said it would look better on the wedding day. We never signed any sort of contract and this should have been a huge red flag. Every other vendor I hired for my wedding had a written contract I had to sign in order to book their services. The week of the wedding rolls around and I texted Candice to confirm the time she would arrive. I didn't hear from her at all again after this point. Also just want you guys to keep in mind I've already paid my deposit for the wedding day as well as all my bridesmaids. Candice never arrived and never responded. All my bridesmaids, my mom and family members were calling and texting her. Once we realized she was ghosting us and probably wouldn't show up we all resorted to plan B and started desperately calling and texting every makeup artist we knew to see if anyone was available. From the beginning she was rude, I asked questions and she has the snarkiest answers. This is my first time getting married and first time hiring a makeup artist, so I wasn't sure how things worked. I booked a trial and makeup for my mom, sister and I the day of the wedding. The day of trial she calls me a hour before she's supposed to show up saying she's here already, I wasn't even ready yet but I was like it's ok whatever. She had no personality whatsoever but I just thought to myself maybe she's having an off day. I did like my makeup. Her prices aren't bad, it's the travel that she doesn't even mention that gets you in the end. I ended up paying almost $200 more then I originally planned. But I was like whatever it's fine at least it looks good. Fast forward to a week or 2 before my wedding she calls with her assistant and was supposed to send over the remaining balance. They never did. Then I had to text her asking again, she finally sent it. Prices aren't bad, but travel was almost $300. But again I'm like whatever, because she does do good work. Now the day of she texts me what's the latest we can all be ready by because she's running behind, I tell her. She ended up not liking it but stuck it through because she knew we didn't have time. Her face was ghostly because of how white she made her look. She then declined my mom because she had a cold sore, we were shocked but understood. She didn't offer a refund or anything just straight up said she's not doing it. I don't know how or why I didn't come across her Yelp prior to booking her for one of the most important days of my and my daughters' lives. Candice portrays amazing work and devotion to her work on her Instagram, however it unfortunately does not reflect an accurate description of services she provides. Like the other reviewers, I provided date, time and location MONTHS before the event. How she was an HOUR AND A HALF LATE the day of because she didn't realize that it was "way further than she thought" is beyond me! I paid the deposit and then didn't hear from her for months. I would text her, DM her and email her and would not hear anything back, yet her IG stories showed her out and about partying and living her life. She talked about an "assistant reaching out to me". No one ever did. I was getting so worried about not hearing back from her, I started to message other makeup artists. I finally heard back from her and confirmed her start time. Candice was the first vendor on our list for our event. Her being so late set a domino effect for the itinerary that we had planned for that day. How did she make up for her tardiness? By RUSHING through our makeup of course. She was very rude and was literally hitting my face with the makeup brushes when doing my makeup. So rough and unnecessary. My makeup came out so cakey and my eyelashes were not even (see pictures). My daughter (the quinceanera) eyelashes were coming off before the event even started (see pictures). I paid $444 for makeup that was rushes, sub-par and definitely not what she advertises on social media (is it because we are average people and not celebrity clients???). The last minute travel fee was also never mentioned in any of her correspondence to me and price breakdown. She was in and out in an hour and a half with no apology or anything. Like a lot of others have said, I was hesitant to post this review at first. However, now seeing how this has become almost a battle of people trying to prove different perspectives and sides of the coin, I feel that my review may be particularly helpful, as I have somewhat of a complex experience. I don't believe in bashing anyone or attacking anyone's character, this is simply what happened to me and if it is helpful for someone else out there, I think it's worth it to share. I am a music artist and about 3 years ago, I hired Candice as a referral from a mutual friend. The first few times I worked with her (mostly for music videos/photoshoots), we did not have any problems. I felt that she charged me fairly, showed up on time and I was usually very satisfied with the way my makeup looked. However, fast-forward to after I got engaged, I first hired Candice to do my makeup for my fiancé and I's engagement photos. (P.S. I am an extremely proactive person, so I always gave Candice ATLEAST 3 weeks to a month notice.) The day before my engagement photoshoot, Candice texted me to tell me that she could no longer do my makeup due to a personal family situation. Although I was upset that the notice was given so last minute, I understood because I strongly believe family comes first. I ended up doing my own makeup for my engagement shoot, because I did not have time to find a replacement MUA. To be honest, I just felt fortunate that I feel confident doing my own makeup, atleast in SOME capacity, because I know some people do not and that would be extremely disappointing for someone who does not know how to do their own makeup. Regardless of this mishap, I had already told Candice I wanted her to do my makeup for my wedding, which at the time was scheduled just a little less than a year away, which she confirmed. At this point, I felt that we had more than just a professional relationship, I considered her a friend. I then booked her to do a trial for my maid of honor and I, about 6 months before my wedding date. I had paid her the deposit, and she ended up showing up to my house for the trial 2 and a half hours late. She said this was because her appointment before my trial had gone unexpectedly long, and that the bride for that appointment had added two bridesmaids last minute. I am not a professional MUA, but I would assume that the professional thing to do would be to stick to your original schedule, regardless of last minute changes a client of yours TRIES to make. I do not think it's fair that I, a paying client, had to suffer because of someone else's mistakes/attempted adjustments the day of. However, my journey with Candice did not end here. Like I said before, I am a music artist and I proceeded to book her for an upcoming music video shoot, and I did consider Candice and I to have a friendship - so I maintained my loyalty to her and wanted to hire her for this video. Candice was supposed to come to my house to do my makeup at 8 AM. I woke up that morning around 7 AM to a text from her telling me that she no longer could make it, due to the fact that her appointment before mine was so far away and that by the time she got back, it would be too late. This was the last straw for me. I told Candice how disappointed I was in her and how not only as a client, but as a friend, I felt extremely let down by her. Her response to me was cold, unapologetic and very matter of fact. Needless to say, I ended up having to do my own makeup for my video shoot and I never booked her or heard from her again. Along with maintaining loyalty to her for so long, I also referred her to many people. She also did my friend's makeup for HER wedding - which she was apparently an hour late to, as well. The ironic part of all of this is that any time I was with Candice, she would speak often about how important it is to be professional and build relationships. Terrible experience. Lacks communication skills. Fails to acknowledge her lack of professionalism. I booked Candice for my anniversary photos, and she never once mentioned the $275 travel fee in the booking process, even when I *specifically* asked what her travel cost would be. She told me she "missed my message" and that it was my fault, that I need to read her packages more carefully. There was no invoice, no contract, no documentation. She also texted me 4 different times asking me "what time I needed to be ready." If she just scrolled up in her texts she'd see she had already asked me literally 3 times prior. Felt very disorganized and bizarre. Thankfully she did issue a refund on my deposit, and I am very grateful for that. Consider this - along with all of the reviews that came in since I made this Yelp and posted my first review: In just two short months, there were multiple women who came forward sharing the exact same experience as I had. It wasn't until Candice became aware of her reviews here that she had any semblance of a positive review. She even had the audacity to text my friend, the bride from my original post (who had her post removed by Yelp - along with many others who were probably reported by Candice and her friends), and essentially threaten her with legal action for leaving an honest and true review. This woman should be avoided at all costs and Candice should refund anyone that she ghosted or otherwise screwed over with her unfortunate work product. The worst decision you can ever make as a client and especially a bride is to book Candice Renae. She is unprofessional, rude, unorganized and snotty. No makeup artist should treat any bride or client the way she treated me. I booked Candice on February 2021 and sent her my deposit immediately after she made her "calculations" about what the overall cost would be. I also specifically asked her if she would travel to Madera/Fresno area and let her know I would pay traveling fees. She then proceeded to say yes she traveled to the Fresno/Madera area and gave me my deposit amount. In this transaction, she instructed me to put my address plus the date and so on. I did so. I put specifically the address and the date. I text her to confirm she received my Venmo and she said yes. Fast forward TO THE DAY BEFORE MY WEDDING, she calls my planner Erika saying she did not realize my wedding was in Madera, CA and would not know if she would be able to make it. I was in tears and so stressed. So basically Candice looked at her calendar or whatever she does her "planning" on the day before my wedding when she has known 4 months prior, was asked if she traveled, was sent my address on Venmo and proceeds to act as if she was just given this information. She never calls me until I called her. She is defensive over the phone, she spoke over me, she said that I would need to pay her a ridiculous additional amount and also canceled twice prior to this for a makeup trial while she was in Jamaica and traveling. Trust me. Save yourself your money and stress over a snotty, disrespectful makeup artist that acts like she doesn't deserve doing her due diligence but will surely take clients deposits without ensuring she is available, organizes her time and doesn't plan the day before a wedding. My wife was amazed with her work on Instagram, but we should've done our research to find this yelp page. We have text screenshots that have proof of an agreed price. However a week before the wedding, her "assistant" reached out about an increase in prices. After deliberation, we decided to cancel her due to the very high possibility of her being late, or even showing up! Read the previous reviews! We believe them because she was late to the trial! We also will have to eat the loss of deposits due to her not responding to requests for returns even though she's the one that raised process when she previously said the quoted price will be honored. This exact same thing just happened to me and it was devastating! I ended up having to pay $200 over the quoted price and she said it was her "travel fee" but this fee was never communicated. She was trying to scramble and texted me the night before the wedding saying our wedding location was too far for her to travel, yet I had told her the location almost two years ago PRIOR to booking her. She had said she had other appointments that day (in a text message the night BEFORE my wedding), knowing that I needed her to do 6 bridesmaids makeup for a 5 pm wedding. She said I needed to pay an additional $80 for an assistants travel fee because she didn't have time to do everyone. The alternative was 1 of us in the bridal party not getting our makeup done?
