This is the first candle store I've been to that provides a listing of burn times based on the candle size. Some candles last 20 to 25 hours whereas some last 155 to 175 hours. That's helpful information for avid candle burners. Beyond just regular candles, they have candles with layers and chunks. Customers can also bring back candle jars purchased at Fayette Candle Factory to get refills for a lower price. That's great incentive considering the regular prices are very inexpensive. Nope, one peek and I quickly grabbed my phone (& holy oil.) It's a small store with the scent of incense wafting through the air. A stern looking lady (who was not my Grandma) stood watch over everyone. The first thing that struck me were the handwritten signs barking orders like, "Don't write numbers in these books. This isn't a library, books are for sale! No refunds. No mixing oils except Myrrh and Frankincense" etc. Ok... The candles clearly aren't being purchased for their beauty or fragrance. I was fascinated and a little scared. You can put roots on people and make them fall in love with you by burning a 'Come Back to Me' candle. 'Break Up' has the opposite effect. You can cast spells, get a miracle, rid your house of evil (Run Devil Run & Exorcist) and get Quick Money rich! There's also a Jinx Removing soap and Court Case shampoo. Prices range from $8 to $15. I asked the sales lady 1) if they were all the same candles in different bottles, 2) if "Grandma" made them and 3) if this was a voodoo/black magic shop. I mean the skull and cat shaped candles were a dead giveaway. The answer was no... And she clearly didn't know what the Pull Out candle was for. But she said she burned her Libra Zodiac and money candles. And you're still working??? She said they get a lot of African and Caribbean customers but it was empty. Probably because there were no Christmas specials (sad face.) There were gift sets. I left after I was caught snapping pics... In short, Grandma's is no Yankee Candle but if you're a witch or know what the High John Conqueror or Dragon Blood is for, it just might be your jam!

I walked into this store quite by accident, because I didn't look through the many clear windows or…read moreeven at the store sign before I walked in. The many scents that hit my nose as soon I opened the door hit me hard, but in a good way! I, at first, thought I was in a soap store, Candlefish is at the north end of Ponce City Market close to the parking lot. It's a nice, open, bright space, with welcoming and friendly employees. After I realized that it was multiple various candle scents that I was smelling at the same time, a smiling employee came to me, and told me to let her know if I needed any help and if she could help me find anything. I told her that I was just looking. After picking up a variety of candles, such as mimosa, pina colada, Bloody Mary, and others, and smelling each of them, the candles started smelling similar. Not that they actually did smell similar, it's just that the scents throughout the store were just overwhelming me. This was my queue to leave. I will most likely be back to take a closer look at what Candlefish has. The store smelled really nice.

Went in and was greeted by the two ladies on staff, even though the register is located near the rear of the store, and both ladies seemed engrossed in an inventory projects, they both acknowledged my presence and made me feel welcome. Upon checking out, I was informed of a Saturday sale on their candles. Too bad, I will be back in Atlanta on Saturday. Personally, I beginning to think that candles are like fingernail polish...they are coming up with the same fragrances but attempting to fool the consumer with different names and labels, but the $20 off a $40 purchase coupon can go far if you know how to spread it around. Also, the owners of the store adjacent to this store children were running around, being noisy, bumping into me, loud. If you have children in a business at least have them trained especially if they are going to be around customers. The book section: if you have never been to an Ollie's their book section, selection, and prices are phenomenal. I find great kids books, I find great sticker books, they have a great choice of superhero books which I've bought several times for birthday and Christmas presents. They have a great variety of adult coloring books, a decent craft book variety and if you're a cookbook aficionado, Ollie's is your place for variety and great prices. Let's talk about office supplies now. Ollie is got a great selection of scissors, stapler, pens, erasers, etc. Also in and around the office supplies are all the craft supplies they're getting from stores going out of business like Joann's. I can always find namebrand quality items from scissors to journals to non-acidic glue sticks to Cricut metal rulers. The toy section in Ollie is hit and miss. It is usually more misses than hits, but if you go down the aisles with all the hanging toys, you can usually find one or two bangers at a great price. My only complaint about toys at Ollie's. Is that their prices tend to be higher than one would expect. For your kitchen, they always have great prices on acrylic storage containers for your pantry or your fridge . They have a phenomenal knife, spatula gadget selection. I just picked up some phenomenal chef knives for $3.98 that cut as good as many German knives as I already own. If I'm close to an Ollie's, I never miss a chance to stroll through the kitchen section for specialty and closeout items that are usually even cheaper than Marshalls or TJ Maxx. If you need a rug, a lot of them have a great variety. But the pricing on the rugs is not any better than Walmart or any of your big box stores like Lowe's or Home Depot. The biggest advantage to Ollie's and rugs is its variety of patterns and sizes. Lastly, I want to talk about seasonal decorations and sunglasses. Seasonal decorations for Christmas and Halloween are usually very pretty and cute and priced at a great price point. Sunglasses: you can get name brand sunglasses like Panama Jack, foster Grant and many other great brands for $2.99 to $3.99. All sunglass brands in the United States are all owned and made by the same company which is Luxotica. It is based in Italy and it's bought up all the namebrand American sunglasses like Ray-Ban and foster Grant. The variety styles vary from store to store and visit to visit. But you will never find a better pair of sunglasses for a better price than Ollie's. The stores are always well organized, clean and fairly well staffed. The bathrooms that I have been in and the different Ollies have always been clean. The employees at Ollie's on the floor have always been helpful and the employees at the registers are just nice. They probably need more cashiers at certain times, but often for me these bargain prices come at only one price to me. That is the extra time you wait in line to pay for your bargains. And we all know this is true from other bargain stores like Ross, TJ Maxx, etc.. The price of your bargain is a time investment. Be sure and not sleep on signing up for Ollie's discount card. When you shop your points and periodically your app will give you 10 to 15% off a whole order that you buy. Sign up for Ollie's discount program. It is worth a little bit of time. It takes to do it.
