We are very very upset with this hotel. We booked this room last year in October 2025 -very advance. And our rooms not ready and not available. They had to sent someone to check which rooms were booked so insane like don't they have a computer system that determines who has what room???? Very very strange and unprofessional. We ran a 5k today at 7:30 pm and tomorrow a 10k and it's 10 pm and we need a room and they are still looking for a room or rooms for us or a suite as we requested. They didn't have the any room we requested upon our arrival. And it it now 11 pm and they haven't been able to accommodate us. They are also trying to resolve another persons room but he's trying to cancel and leave and get his money back so he can go to another hotel. We are running a marathon tomorrow and it is now 11:20 pm and it's 4 of us and apparently the new employee made a mistake and gave our room to someone else. We are now at the lounge area and waiting to see what they can give us and we hope we get something good bc we need to rest. We need beds to sleep and rest for early wake up. After 35 minutes we finally got two separate rooms and so we took it because we are tired. We get to one room and that one is busy with other people stuff in it. While the other room was actually available and some had to be in one room while we waited for another room to be available so it has been a nightmare bc now the other employee arrived and has no idea what's going on so my sisters go down to explain. It's insane. They still had to go to several rooms to see I which ones were busy and free. So bad. We will now wait more for my sister to get a room to rest. Last resort we might have to squeeze 4 of us ourselves in a king bed bc this is ridiculous. read more

I am posting this publicly because IHG has failed at every stage of handling this issue -- first during the stay itself, and then again in the way the complaint has been handled afterward. Case #: 10593683943 During my stay at Candlewood Suites Champaign, I was in room 219. The guests in room 217 were loud, disruptive, and smoking cigarettes throughout the night. I finally had to contact the front desk at approximately 2:30 AM. The disturbance briefly stopped, then started again around 5:00 AM. This resulted in a night of severely interrupted sleep in what should have been a quiet, safe, and smoke-free hotel environment -- the bare minimum any guest should expect -- and I still had to pay $150 for this stay. What makes this even worse is the hotel's response. The front desk acknowledged the problem and said they were "really sorry," but claimed they had no power to do anything for me other than charge the offending room a $250 smoking fee. So to be clear: IHG was apparently able to penalize the guests who violated policy, but was not willing or able to offer any compensation to the guest whose stay was ruined by it. IHG found a way to collect money from the problem, but not a way to make things right for the customer who suffered the consequences. And the failure did not stop at the hotel level. On 5/14/26 at 11:25 AM, I followed up through the Diamond Elite line and was told my case was under review. I was also told that a live IHG Customer Relations representative would call me back. That callback never happened. Instead, what I have received is the same empty response over and over: "Your case is under review." No meaningful update. No urgency. No ownership. No follow-through on the callback that was promised. As a long-standing Diamond Elite member, this is more than disappointing -- it is a clear example of a company failing both in service delivery and in accountability after the fact. At this point, this is no longer just about one bad hotel stay. It is about IHG's apparent inability or unwillingness to resolve a legitimate complaint with professionalism, urgency, and basic fairness. Here are the facts: I was subjected to an overnight disturbance caused by another room. Smoking was taking place despite the expectation of a smoke-free environment. I had to involve the front desk in the middle of the night. The disturbance resumed again hours later. The hotel acknowledged the violation strongly enough to impose a $250 smoking fee on the offending room. · Yet I was offered nothing for the ruined stay and still had to pay $150. IHG then promised a live Customer Relations callback. IHG failed to deliver that callback. Since then, I have largely been met with bots, scripted replies, and vague reassurances. That is not customer care. That is not accountability. And it is certainly not what a Diamond Elite member should have to deal with after a stay like this. IHG still barely has an opportunity to correct this, but the continued lack of direct contact and broken follow-through only reinforce how poorly this has been handled. read more

It was our first road trip with two kids (1 and 3). I booked a room here specifically because it was advertised as having a door closing the bed area off from the couch. This seemed ideal so the adults could stay up later than 7pm. When we checked in we were told we we upgraded to a double queen room at the same rate. We accepted this because a larger room? Cool. Great. We get up to the room and it's a completely open style with two beds. It smelled artificially scented and damp. My husband tried to call down to the front desk from the room. One phone didn't work for anything, the other kept cutting out. My husband went down to the desk to ask and was told "what's on our website doesn't always accurately reflect what we have available. The kind of room you booked books up months in advance and we don't have any other options. " We were extremely frustrated by this. Our kids were not going to be able to sleep like this. So we packed up our things and drove the 2 hours home instead of trying to make this work. I tried to call on Sunday to talk to a manager but they aren't back until Monday. Today, the hotel was called but we were told there was nothing they could do because we "accepted the room". Ok... how were we to know what it was going to look like?? We were in Champaign-Urbana area returning from a dog trip to Florida. We had puppies with us on the trip south, but were dogless on the way home. Our goal when we travel is to find pet friendly options whether the dogs are with us or not. The hotel decor is classic and the color scheme was mainly tans and browns. There were a variety of art prints displayed on the walls and those had the same flavor and coloring as the overall theme. The hotel offers coffee and tea in a pantry area where you may purchase additional items if desired. The rooms have kitchens so the need for breakfast would be reduced, and the price per room reflects that. Our room was located on the main floor and had 2 Queen sized beds. Plenty of room for people and if you have dogs along, there is space to set up crates and still have room for the dogs to play and interact. The bathroom was good sized and there was plenty of counter space for travel kits. The shower/tun combo was large and the shampoo/conditioner/body wash was wall mounted and contained Watkins products. If you bring dogs, there are plenty of spaces to walk dogs around the hotel and surrounding areas. We really like travelling and staying in places that offer kitchens so we are able to eat healthier on the road. Edit: Day 2 I went downstairs first thing this morning and voiced my complaints about room 311. I had the worst night sleep. AC wasn't working. Microwave didn't work. Every cord on the TV was disconnected and once I could get behind the dresser to plug literally every cord back into the TV and DVD, there was no signal. I asked for another room and the front desk lady was apologetic and able to get us into another room just down the hall. Awwww AC. TV. Working appliances. Great. My only complaint about this room, 319, is that they have obvious water damage in the ceiling. Nothing was dropping but it is moist, so it lakes recently and all I can do is hope there is no rain in the next 3 nights. The bed is comfortable. The towels are plush and soft and and they have nice bathroom amenities. I'll update a final review after our stay. Day 1: Not starting off on a good start. Got in late, August 17,2020 and our room 311 had no working TV and AC is not getting cold. I have young babies with us and they immediately went to sleep so nothing I can really do until tomorrow. I called the front desk and spoke with Cindy about the TV. She didn't really have a fix and I said tomorrow will be fine, but I'm going to need it working. There's a sign on AC saying it knows when we leaveso wait 15 minutes for thermostat to work. Well it's been an hour and it's still humid. And whatever the scent in the room is making me choke. Do not stay here, I repeat do not stay here unless you want Cockroaches coming home with you, this place is so dirty. Exercise machines are broken, theres a bucket of water in workout room from leaking ceiling that looks like its been there for a month. Staff that works there is very friendly and kind, and understood why we had to check out after one night, I didn't see all the roaches in the room till morning. read more

If it was possible to give negative stars, I would. Check in was awkward, with the receptionist telling me they were out of tissue, while some people waited around the lobby in pajamas for a manager. I got keys and waited at the door closest to parking for my husband to bring in our bag. The handle said to push the lever and pull on the handle- it was hard to open but we managed. On the way through the lobby toward the elevator, we overheard the lobby people were checking out because there were roaches in their room. Eek! I asked if they saw a single bug or more, and she gestured MANY. Ok, it was late and I was tired- how bad could it be? Oh, it can be bad. Got to our room and instantly saw a cockroach. I went to step on it and my husband pointed out I was stepping on 3! More were on the door and scurrying everywhere- at least 15-20 of them. We closed the door and left in disgust! Tried to tell the receptionist about our issue and she acted surprised. I gave her my keys and said I better not be charged. DO NOT stay here unless you like infested rooms. read more

My issue with the Candlewood had nothing to do with the quality of the room which was average. My problem is with the management here which is horrible! I booked my stay here online via a third party, yet when I gave my credit card to the front desk agent upon check-in as an authorization for "incidentals", she used it to pay for the room instead . This means I was charged for the same room twice! When I brought this to the attention of the manager, instead of simply giving me a refund which any other hotel would do, they said they would "look into it"with the third party . After several weeks of call after call to their management reminding them about it , they explained to me I should contact them myself because they couldn't get a hold of anyone at that company willing to help them out. I asked them why since it was their error in the first place couldn't I simply get a refund ? They explained they needed to "get their money first" I ended up calling SSG Hotels, their parent company and Neel Patel their owner told me he was not willing to do a refund but would comp me two nights in the future . I agreed to this because I was so frustrated and wanted to at least get something other than the run-around. I will never stay at an SSG property again because the owners and managers have absolutely no idea about guest service ! Instead of recognizing their mistake which I proved with multiple receipts beyond a shadow of a doubt, they delayed and stonewalled me to the point of exhaustion instead of just doing the right thing and giving me my refund! read more

When we arrived we were warmly welcomed by the receptionist. The hotel was also pet friendly which was a plus. The receptionist even offered a doggie treat.The room was right for the price, however it wasn't as clean as I hoped. It looked like it hadn't been swept, vacuumed, or dusted for awhile. There were still popcorn kernels and items in the fridge from the last guests. It was in a nice business area, and a very quiet stay. We had a hard time adjusting the temp in the room...it was either too hot, cold, or humid. The beds were 2 queens and they looked like a full. A little firm for my liking, but tolerable. The worst thing about the entire stay....we didn't get our rooms cleaned daily. So we had a pile of towels and garbage stacked up. I have never been to a hotel that had this policy. I think it's rather unsanitary. Which also leads me to believe they barely clean their rooms. I did give another star for the free laundromat. Oh yeah..almost forgot...there is NO pool and NO complimentary breakfast! That sucked! But you do get a free paper! read more

Excellent, excellent hospitality! From the minute we checked in, the front desk staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. You can tell that they take pride in their hotel and in providing a welcoming stay for their customers. The lobby area has games, movies, appliances, and more available to check out. The hotel has an updated fitness area, a cozy lobby, and some nice outdoor space. I do wish that they had a pool and a continental breakfast. They are also dog friendly and are welcoming to service animals! Our room itself was very nice. Everything was very clean and comfortable. We utilized the kitchenette area to cook a few meals! The suite style rooms work great for families and groups. I highly recommend this hotel. We will certainly be back! read more

Decent hotel for the price for extended stay purposes. Things they could improve: Floors not very clean, asked them to please come mop them and after they left there was still fingernails and dust build up (from the previous guests) and such in the corners that needed to be vacuumed or wiped up with rags by hand. Tub was clogged when I took my first shower which they did come right away to fix. Hallways and entryways are never very clean. Should be vacuumed daily since half the folks here don't ask for room service every day, makes for plenty of time to do other upkeep. Outside areas need picked up, trash laying everywhere in the grass, broken glass could be swept up in the parking areas. I have a dog with me and have to be very careful he doesn't step on the broken glass. Dog poo bins are not being cleaned out. Same bag has been in there since I got here 5 days ago. Dog poop everywhere from guests who didn't pick up. If they don't pick it up then the hotel needs to clean it up. Front desk didn't tell me the first day that I didn't get room service unless I ask for it. read more

We booked a room with a double bed four days in advance because we are driving home and this is a half way point. We called at 11 pm during our drive saying we won't be checking in until 1:30 am and wanted to make sure that was okay. They said "sure, drive safe". Ps. We pre-paid for the room. We get to the hotel at 1:30am AND they don't have our room. They apparently have a single bed room that someone checked out early from that they haven't had a chance to clean yet. So we waited for 35 minutes at this time of morning after driving 8 hours while she quickly cleans the room of a one bedroom. Don't stay here!!! This place is poorly run!! read more

DO NOT STAY HERE!! Charged $100 for a room. We had no hot water to shower in the morning. They said they were refunding me. Turns out they charged me again totaling $171. It's been 2 weeks and I still haven't received my refund. The manager never calls when she says she will. The front desk clerk Amanda has been the only one communicating or doing anything. The manager tried to tell me she sent my refund on the 2nd when I hadn't even called until the 5th to bring the overcharge to their attention. Awfully suspicious.... The manager is incompetent. Complained to corporate their excuse was banks will sometimes hold your refund to earn interest on it before they give you your money back. Stay somewhere else. Save yourself the trouble. Update: 3 weeks after the fact they finally reimbursed me for my overcharge and stay. read more

Have stayed twice now and would still give it four stars. There was one employee this time who didn't seem keen on being there, but that happens - everyone else was very friendly and helpful. This room also had that weird musty smell, so I kept the window open again - this time, unfortunately, it stormed all night. Was very disappointed in this hotel, a IHG hotel, which is unusual. As an elite member (frequent traveler reward system). When we arrived after a long day traveling during the holidays, the room smelled of SMOKE. We called the desk immediately and they state no other rooms available! Sold out in Champaign mmmmm? So we left for dinner requesting air fresher and turn up air conditioner to exchange air a little. Came back in 1.5 hours but only freshener sprayed. The next morning spoke to front desk about this issue as whenever we check-in at a hotel, we have to sign a non-smoking policy or pay for cleaning. So why wasn't the housekeeper aware of strong smoke odor from previous guests and resolve it. There response was refund 1K points for 15K required for this Candlewood. Not usual Candlewood response. I called IHG direct and they responded. Sad problem. Please retrain housekeeping and front desk staff. read more

We had a nice stay, however the ac in the suite we had did not work, we called the desk and the receptionist moved us to another suite. Unfortunately, I left a Guide Gear jacket on the back of a chair in the room at departure. Called the establishment back when we made it home, she was curt and brisk when I asked if anyone from housekeeping turned it in, she said no, I gave her the room number 4 times plus a call back number. I doubt she looked or asked anyone about it, daughter called the next day and asked why they charged an additional $20 Sir charge to her credit card. Again the woman was brisk, she asked again about the coat woman replied NO, No One turned anything in, are you sure it was left here? Daughter replied yes! I was at Candlewood Suites for a long while, clearly since it's an extended stay, but I just would like to point out that the front desk att; Travis... was VERY, very sweet, helpful and of course handsome:) I have never in my life of staying at hotels traveling all around the world met someone like him, he actually put his heart into his work. Any employer is glad to have him. The rooms were very nice, it was a bit noisy at times when there were other groups staying next to us but just kids so I wasn't complaining. It's very clean, housekeeping did a great job as well. Only thing I would have to say, is cigarette butts around the premises.... and the other front desk att... Ashley I think... seemed to not do much. Always preoccupied with something... never helpful whatsoever. But everyone's personality is different, some people are more for customer service than others.
