Dr Cobb did an emergency call for us and was absolutely wonderful. Fairly priced and got here in less than 30 minutes.

Darbster Doggy - The photo from Darbster Doggy staff that caught my eye and made me fall in love with our future family member!

    Darbster Doggy

    (19 reviews)

I have been a long time customer of Darbster Doggy (almost 4 years at the time of this review)…read more In May of 2020, right after the start of the pandemic, my husband and I really wanted to adopt a dog. (We were dog owners before, and it took many years after she passed away for us to be ready). However, due to the pandemic, the wait lists for places and the process to adopt was quite lengthy. We stayed the course, and one of the places we applied to adopt from was Darbster since they actually let you MEET the dogs before adopting (almost all the places we'd been applying to were asking people to adopt sight unseen - based on photos only, which is crazy)! I met a few dogs, but once I met one I wanted to adopt, they told me I couldn't take the dog home with me unless my husband was also present. (Would have been good to know beforehand). We lost that dog to someone else who came in after me, however; they made it up to us by giving us a preview of the next new dogs available for adoption that might be a fit, and we also got first crack at meeting the dogs. The photo of our Mazzy was truly love at first sight.. she had such bright eyes and looked like such a lovebug. We met her and adopted her same day. She was overall healthy (was just ending a bout of kennel cough) and was spayed, etc. She was not housebroken or leash trained, and they did share that she had accidents in her kennel and that shouldn't wear a harness or collar while crated. Since adopting Mazzy over 3 years ago, we've also entrusted Darbster with boarding several times. In the fall when we went to Japan for 2 weeks, she did lose a bit of weight, but that's common for her. (She really doesn't eat much when we are gone, even if she's at home). We trust Darbster with Mazzy and we are so grateful that they rescued her and we got to adopt her!

I hate to give any Rescue a 1-star review, but in the case of Darbster, it feels like they prioritize speed of placement over the well-being of a pet. I was directly involved in rescuing Toby after he was found abandoned and chained to a tree in Miami. For five months, I ensured he received medical treatment, and spent months caring for him day-to-day, getting to know his personality, behavior, and needs--and loving him. When Toby was initially placed with a family, I believed it would be his forever home. Although I was somewhat reluctant, I supported the placement due to work travel I could not cancel. There was an understanding that if it didn't work out, I would be contacted and given the opportunity to adopt him. Unfortunately, that did not happen. When I learned he had been transferred to Darbster, I reached out within about an hour of him being listed and spoke with a member of the team same day. During that conversation, I offered to cover nightly boarding costs so I could travel and pick him up, and was told they would follow up with next steps. After not hearing back, I followed up within 24 hours confirming I was prepared to make a 24-hour round-trip drive to bring him home. Within three hours of that follow-up, I received an automated email that Toby had been adopted. I did not receive any direct communication or update beforehand and it was not until that evening that I received a brief email confirming the adoption, without explanation. At no point did I receive a follow-up regarding boarding, next steps, or any indication that they'd be showing him to other potential adopters. I had always believed rescues prioritize placing dogs in the most appropriate long-term homes, especially when there is an existing, known relationship. In this case, it felt like speed of placement was prioritized over familiarity and previously formed bonds. The lack of communication and failure to follow through--especially after I had expressed immediate commitment and prior involvement in Toby's care--was incredibly difficult, and the adoption notification with no prior update was heartbreaking. To whoever has adopted Toby: I truly hope you are giving him the loving, stable home he deserves. He is an incredibly special dog. If this message reaches Toby's new owner, I truly hope he is a perfect fit. However, if for any reason it doesn't work out, please reach out to me--I miss him so much.

One day at our vet he asked if they boarded cats, they gave us a pamphlet that was just dropped off and said The Whisker Haven had just opened up. We immediately called and asked to see the place. Trina was so great and understood why I would be nervous. Her place is strictly for cats so it is a nice and relaxing place for them. She showed us around and we even met her two cats that were there. Trina put so much thought and care into her place and it can be seen with all the little details I would never have thought of. I was so happy that we booked four days with her for the July 4th holiday. She asked if it was OK if she texted us updates, and of course, we were happy to get them! While we were away we received pictures and updates. Our Agnes was doing great and looked so happy and comfortable. When we showed up to pick her up, she didn't want to leave! She was walking around and enjoying the large cat tree that is near her large window in the back. She was so happy and enjoyed her time there. Trina also brushed her, which we were able to tell because she felt so nice and well taken care of. Surprisingly, we put her on the floor and she walked back into her "cat condo", ate, and went to sleep in the bed! This is truly the best place you could bring your cat. Trina cares for animals and is a true cat lover. She has thought of everything possible to make your cat's time there enjoyable. She even will give your cat their medication for a small fee, this was great because our cat needs a pill twice a day. We have already booked future dates because we feel she will be booked up once the word gets out! We highly recommended bringing your cat here. It is like an affordable spa vacation for your cat. You will be so happy with The Whisker Haven, Trina is the best!

Have been a long time client of Pet-Agree, for training classes with several dogs (even a foster…read moredog) and boarding/day care. We don't go as often as we used to, but the staff still remembers us; they've had some long-term people there for as long as we've been going, 11 years. Owner/Trainer Karen Smith is just a lovely lady. She's extremely good at what she does, and has a good sense of humour (definitely a plus when working with dogs). Though she's all about positive reinforcement, that doesn't mean a dog doesn't learn there's a consequence to a bad/unwanted behavior. She makes the classes interesting and fun and she educates herself, and her staff, on new training methods and things to try with the dogs. That's fabulous for those of us who have taken multiple dogs through the various levels of classes over time. It would get boring if we weren't as enthused as our dogs; they'd pick up on that negativity. We've done private lessons with a couple dogs who needed more than they could get in a group scenario; one who hadn't been socialized as a puppy and was afraid of a dust bunny never mind people. It took a year working with Karen, but it was glorious to see that dog blossom. Not only did we do basic obedience, behavior modification, lots of desensitizing, but Karen educated me back then on what makes a good dog food, and how some ingredients were thought to affect behavior. And she introduced me to herbal remedies as well. It was a complete, successful, program. She is a wonderful trouble shooter when you're having a particular issue with your dog. If one thing doesn't work to resolve, she'll suggest something else. And Karen or her assistants, are always available by phone when you have questions between sessions. They would write summary notes of your lesson so you didn't have to try and remember it all. I hope they still do that because those are handy to keep on file to refer back to over time. You just have to be willing to do the homework and then the results speak for themselves when you have a dog that is a pleasure to live with and for people to meet in public. It's been invaluable with our Rottweilers - they've been breed ambassadors and shown people the true nature of the breed - oversized lap dogs! Our dogs love going to daycare and they don't even mind boarding for a few nights. The staff get to know the dogs and will assess to determine which other dogs might be good playmates. Of course it varies depending on the dogs that come in day to day, but they know the regulars and who might be compatible with whom. They get regular rest periods, and are monitored for stress. Some people criticize the set up of the multiple play yards and what they feel is not enough staff to supervise, or leaving collars on. I understand those criticisms, and know that accidents can happen quickly, but in the time we've been using Pet-Agree, never heard of it happening there. They're doing something right. The place is looking a little less glossy the last few years, and they don't have webcam abilities, as some trendier places do, but it's always clean and full of lots of friendly smiles - human and canine. :)
