I had a new ac system installed in my house in January along with a new furnace. A friend came over yesterday and he looked at a repair I need in the back bedroom. It was stifling hot in the room. I told him this is our canfield central AC. We went to the kitchen and he said this is the way it should work in the bedroom. I have had them back twice to fix it and it still isn't working. We have a window unit in our bedroom just so we can sleep. My friend said that Greg Canfield would never have allowed that kind of work to be done. He said get them back out here and have them make it right. Unfortunately Greg Canfield is no longer the owner. Buyer beware, find a company who will fix their work until it is right. Don't use them - they left a voicemail at 4:59 canceling my appointment for the morning. I went with them because they said they could come out next day. Error on my part trusting this company - don't make the same mistake I made, they are not trustworthy. Electrical work quoting Seems with so many licensed electrician to choose, getting charged for an estimate if you don't use them is ridiculous. i've had quotes ftom many contractors for different things and n4ver had to pay for estimating. It should be a cost of doing business. Its simply says you're not worth our time go with someone else. read more

Canfield has been servicing my condo association for some time. They seen to be getting worse. They did not let our building know, that the water was being shut off. My wife was washing dishes and the water shut down, and the toilet would not flush. Later they told us, that it was back on, but no hot water. They promised to return early, the next day but came later. We still have little hot water. Poor quality and horrible service. read more

The best customer service ever. Very polite, knowledgeable, and friendly employees. However, under new owners, their prices and focus has shifted from customer service to making as much money as possible. If this persists, may need to look elsewhere. And that is extremely sad. Loved the former owner, Mr. Canfield, the 5 stars are for the quality of their work and the service employees. For the new management. 1 star, at least the business is still there. These folks are very quick and efficient. I had an issue with a slow drain , not an emergency but they were out the next day and got me going . John was very professional and helpful . Suggested an upgrade to my system that would help keep the drains open . Very reasonable cost and again did the work in a very timely basis . We have used Canfield a number of times, always with good results - but this weekend has put them over the top. Much of northeast Grand Rapids was out of power (for several days in sub-feezing temps). My wife called Canfield (since we have hot water heat and were worried about our pipes bursting in the cold). Greg Canfield put us on the schedule for the next day to blow the air out of our system. We called back early the next day to say we'd found a generator and an electrician was coming in the afternoon to install. Greg offered to my wife a temporary solution that we could do (to plug in the generator) and also offered that someone from his team could come over AT NO CHARGE that morning to help us with it (as he was concerned about waiting too long in cold weather). I appreciate him going above and beyond - you have earned a loyal customer! In non-emergency times we have always found them to be helpful, competent and fairly priced too. ; ) read more

We recently had a grinder/lift kit break on a very busy day. We had guests over and were leaving for an evening event so the timing was critical. I called early in the day and spoke with two staff members about coming out. The staff members were extremely professional and took the time to explain pricing and how things worked. I appreciated the extra time they took to talk about the job. As it turned out, Canfield was completely booked that day. They told me that there was a small chance that they might be able to fit me in late in the afternoon if everything went right. I was pleasantly surprised when my phone rang at 4:30 pm. Canfield was sending someone out asap to do the work. Again, a professional member of their team explained who was coming out and made sure we were happy. The work ended up being wrapped up in about an hour. The employee kept me updated and was also very professional. I can't say enough positive things about this outfit. They did not force me to buy a new system while the old one could still be reasonably repaired and when the unit finally needed replaced Greg came out and gave us a fair price. I had Canfield replace a 29 year old Water Furnace with a Hydron Module system 2 weeks ago. The furnace is much quieter than the Water Furnace ever was. I really like the soft start that the Hydron has, no blast of air when it starts it just comes on gently. Canfield Plumbing and Heating arrived on time, brought an electric space heater that kept my wife warm while they replaced the furnace. They explained the system to me and showed me the things I need to do, filter changes, operating leds, water heater hook-up. I'm very satisfied with Canfield and the Hydron Module Furnace. read more

I had a water issue where I had no water at all and called Canfields. An employee arrived the next day. After about a half hr here he informed me that I had a well issue and had to contact a well company. I gave him a ck for his service call as I expected to do. Services rendered. Two days later the owner Gregg called me and said he had voided my ck as they were unable to help me out. How nice was that. I didn't expect that at all.very nice gesture for sure. Disappointed with Godwin Plumbing tech's inability to clear my stubbornly plugged kitchen drain I was thoroughly impressed when referred to and my problem was corrected by Brian at Canfield Plumbing. Brian, a 19 year veteran, arrived within the quoted time window, quickly assessed the problem, engaged the task, used multiple devices to clear the drain to the septic, cleaned up, explained obstacles encountered and made recommendations on how to keep the drain free flowing. Entering my house, Brian immediately put footies over his shoes. I believe the price charged was fair. I am thoroughly impressed and wanted all potential customers to learn of my positive experience and know they could be confident dealing with Canfield and Brian, an experienced professional. read more

First time Canfield customer. I had them install a new water heater. Installation was well done. When I called to schedule it they said they would take the old water heater with them. I removed the old one and had it sitting outside in front of the garage. When the installation was done, the plumber didn't want to take the old water heater. He said they only get about $5 for it and he didn't want to haul it back to the shop. So now I have to figure out what to do with it. It appeared to be laziness on the part of the plumber to me. Unfortunate because based on the other reviews and the number of their trucks I see on the road I suspect they are actually a good company. I will try a different company next time. Less than 24hrs after posting this review I received a call from Greg Canfield. He apologized and said that's not the way they do business. He stopped by and picked up the old water heater. I appreciate the quick resolution to the problem. A good indicator of the quality of a business is how they respond to a situation like this. He made it right - quickly. read more

Every time I drive through Lowell and see this business I am reminded of about 9 years ago when our water heater was not working. Being the sort of handy girl that I am I immediately took a trip to the local hardware and picked up a thermal couple since I knew how to change those out and it can be as simple as something like that when your water heater or oven break down. Well it didn't fix the problem. I called on Canfield for a check up and Greg himself showed up at my door-step. Within 15 minutes he had an estimate for me for a new water heater, plus all the changes that will have to happen (of course), a whopping $700+. Well beings that my husband had just got the pink slip at his workplace this was unaffordable at the time, so I told Greg that we would have to go without hot water for awhile, bless his heart for not charging me a service call. A friend stopped by later on and had mentioned that sometimes those brand new thermal couples can be faulty and suggested we try another one, and so we did and I am here today to say that after 9 years that same water heater is putting out some great hot water. So either this business has incompetent service workers or they like to gain a few unwarranted bucks. read more

I needed a heat exchanger replaced and it was under warranty. I was told it would be 5-8 days. After 10 days I was told it would be in 3 days. I then received a call that said it wouldn't be done when I was told, and they had no idea when it might happen. The next day Greg Canfield called to yell at me because I had been crabby the day before. It was 59 degrees in our house, and I had been putting up with this for 2 weeks! When I expressed concern about my electric bill because I had been running the space heaters nonstop for all that time, he told me to shut them off and freeze. When I asked when it might be fixed he asked if I wanted to pay him $100 an hour to drive across the country for the part! Unbelievably rude and unprofessional! When the tech did come to fix it, he was perfectly wonderful. He took the time to explain what had happened. All of this could have been avoided if i would have been informed about the situation. I will never use or recommend their services. Greg Canfield was an unprofessional jerk! read more
