    Outside of the store!

In February, my partner and I decided we would adopt a new family member. We found PetMac on Yelp and I'm so glad we did. We did a little looking around the store and we weren't really set on any one cat. So Lori, one of the owners of Petmac, came over and explained that all cats have different personalities at the shelter vs. when they get home. Lori recommend Addie, our 5 y/o Tuexdo. She was so shy and nervous. But we've had her for 5 1/2 months now and she is the best thing to happen to us. Haha. After we got her papers together, Lori recommended all the essentials + a variety of food! It was really convenient that the store had a huge selection of cat food, toys and litters. This is definitely the place to go to for all your pet necessities - cat and dog.

For all cat lovers and pet owners, this is the coolest store in DC. They have fluffy cats roaming the establishment waiting to be adopted. It's a surprise they don't eat all the treats and play with all the toys. There is a good supply of healthy and grain free cat/dog food. Unfortunately, the store is quite small and products are slightly overpriced but the staff members are super friendly. It is a good place to splurge on your cat, dog or other loving pets. Overall, this place is worth a visit since DC is lacking in quality pet stores. Five stars for the adoptable cats, four stars for the service and three stars for the prices.

I can't say enough good things about this place. Not only is this locally owned, the owners are also skilled in all things pet-related!! I can go in and buy any cat toy and know with 100% certainty that it has been vet reviewed & approved. You would think that they would have higher prices since they have to compete with other large chains in the area, but it's quite the opposite. I'm getting boutique level food, toys, and litter at cheaper prices than your typical brands you find at the grocery store. Amazing! Grain-free food that doesn't kill my bank account. Street parking is usually very easy to find & they're great about returns! Extra perk: they host cat adoptions here! They work closely with Pets Bring Joy (PBJ) who made adopting my bundles of fluff super easy. Plus they happily allow you to bring your (well-behaved) pet with you into the store. Extremely knowledgeable staff willing to help answer questions and provide recommendations. So lucky to have found this gem!

Janice is my go to advisor for my picky cats. My cats are never disappointed with her recommendations.

The missing time for my cat and the one they posted online matches and the very detailed stripes pattern matches. It's questionable that one employee said she from North Carolina, another one said she from West Virginia. I have my cat since she was born, I can recognize this cat from eye contact. I will show how my cat look like and how sick she is now in their foster home. I'm deeply saddened and worried about her. She is territorial as a cat does. She has been a happy cat in her own home, wtf they think this is a rescue. Now I have to either kiss their ass or be assertive to fight against this negativity just to get her rescued from these horrible ppl. F that! If they don't practice as ethical as it should be, this is a big big issue! I put the photos of how my cat looked before and how she looks now in their foster homes(one with name caption) I am seriously furious and frustrated about this. If they couldn't give me an explanation why they made it so difficult to meet the cat. I have to say I will use my popularity and influence to the extreme to make things right!!!

When I visited the first time, a lap cat who was just spayed, locked her eyes on me....I thought a match! The large man working at the facility said the cat was not up for adoption. He also did not tell me ANYTHING about the process and need to file an "application" online. He only said, after much prodding, it would be a few weeks before the cat would be up for adoption, and I should check back on the website in a few weeks. I will say he was very "STAND-OFF-ISH" to me for an unknown reason. I came back the next week, and the cat was not there. I was told from a more friendly man, that the cat was having its stiches removed and another week or so before the cat would be ready for adoption. But unfortunately, he too did not tell me about the adoption process and need for an online application. Why would people whom are trying to get animals adopted, not tell them about the application process? WHAT ELSE ARE THEY HIDDING?

She suggested I…read moreapply online before the adoption event, and I'm glad I started the process before arriving so that I was pre-registered, so to speak. The event was well attended so I recommend arriving early and checking in with a volunteer (green tent) so you get instructions for navigating, selecting, and adopting. You want to be first on the list to adopt your dream pet. Due to the great turnout, and the number of foster parents there with the dogs, I couldn't find the dog I originally arrived to adopt. Keep an eye on the LDAR website for the most up to date list of dogs and cats. I found out the day before the event that another wonderful pup had be transferred to VA, and so I inquired about him as soon as I arrived, which gave me priority. The whole adoption process took about four (4) hours - about half of that was due to shopping for my new bestie. The lines can get extremely long during adoption events because the store is open to the public and a hundred or so adoption guests the day I visited. There was a small wait (30 minutes) to have my application reviewed, and for the pre-interview. Then about 30 minutes before I found out I was approved to adopt the puppy. There's another wait to go through adoption counseling (30 minutes - where you should shop for appropriate items such as a martingale collar, leash, name tag) and the counseling took about 30 minutes (I had questions). The process was seamless and LDAR has been great about following up with me since the adoption. I also received a number of online resources that helped me acclimate my new little guy, and house train him within a week! The volunteers are transparent about the fine print, so it's important to know what you are responsible for. LDAR, thus you, might not have all the details on the pet's health and temperament. No take backs! With that said, an adopter will be on the hook for vet bills to ensure the safety of the animal. After our first vet visit, a few days after adoption, I did learn that my pup had a few things we needed to take care of, but this comes with pet ownership. I would recommend LDAR to anyone who is looking to adopt a pet. Visit an event and ask questions to see what it's like.

The first two were an appointment canceled 1 hour before it was supposed to begin. The other was the worst haircut a puppy had ever received. But both of those things happen. Someone has a bad day or emergency circumstances. Today's interaction was entirely unacceptable and unprofessional. We arrived for a bath and brush after we had spent the weekend at the shore and the dog was playing in the water and dirt. My dog was visibly shaking as she is fearful of this place from previous grooming appointments. When we check in, we see a groomer who is shaving a small dog. The dog is audibly crying and the groomer is making fun of the dog to their coworkers. Just my luck, it is that same groomer who comes to take my dog. She touches my dogs ear and then the back of her legs and says "nope we can't wash her today. She needs a cut. You must reschedule." Turns around and walks back behind the counter......that was it. No explanation, no discussion, no working with us to figure out how we could get her washed today. This worker was incredibly rude and I hope other dogs don't have the misfortune of being groomed by her. We will not be back to this Petsmart. If you need grooming, I'd search elsewhere. Rather than offering a brief professional recommendation, they engaged in an unnecessarily contentious exchange that transformed a routine check-in into an unpleasant interaction marked by remarkably poor customer service.
