Walkable to restaurants and bars, including many coffee shops - and just a few blocks from the Guthrie theatre, making this a terrific location to just park the car and walk. Rooms were appropriate in size, elevators were efficient and staff were present and helpful. Our meeting enjoyed breakfast on-site, which was delicious. A really beautiful hotel with a lot to like. I try to change it up when traveling for work but it'll be hard to not book this one again. It was located right where I needed to be (bonus points for being damn near attached to a Trader Joe's!). It's by the water, by Gold Medal Park, by the football stadium, by a transit line, by great coffee, and some good restaurants to boot. Oh, and you can even run or walk by the river paths and trails if that's your thing. The main floor and entry areas are stunning. Coincidentally at work that week we had a "work from a beautiful hotel" and I have to say this was the easiest assignment ever. Staff is friendly, both with check-in, handling DoorDash deliveries, and even a few extra packets of toothpaste when mine ran out. The room itself was very comfortable all around. It is a little odd when you have the "atrium view" as you're just looking out at the hallway/open space, and people can see in if the blinds aren't drawn. Bed, shower, and WiFi are all A+, and while I can never get the Chromecast to work on hotel TVs, it's at least an option for those who can. I put together a "staycation" for myself and my boyfriend and this hotel was great!! I will say this hotel definitely has a "trendy" "younger crowd vibe" to it. My boyfriend and I are both in our thirties. This hotel played live music on a Saturday in the lobby area from 7pm-10pm and I could see someone older may be not appreciating that as much as we did!! There is a parking ramp in this building but the parking ramp across the street charges the same (just no in or out privileges). If the ramp is connected to "Moxy" you are in the ramp that DOES NOT have in or out privileges. Coming from 3rd street, there are doors that say "Canopy" and "Umbria" walk through those. It will look like you are walking only into a restaurant, but the check in desk is straight back to the left. With that being said, there is a bar and restaurant right here!! (We did not try this place but it did look good) The staff were very friendly and quick with check in! Our room was clean and very spacious! The shower was a decent size and included nice smelling products for body wash, shampoo and conditioner. This hotel was awesome! Definitely different looking than your standard holiday inn. Layout, numerous hooks, very cool decor was relaxing. Low lighting in the room. *Love the gift socks! *A logical shower setup!! The shower was awesome. So many hotels have bad shower setup. This one is perfection. They thought of everything. Extra hooks, faucet away from the shower head, both rain and hand held shower head, area to put your own products, etc. and lots of hot water. *Near a Starbucks *The clock by the bed was big and not bright *Vanity kit upon request *Makeup mirror *Front desk always cheery and helpful *called from gym to report they were out of sanitary swipes. She said it was too early for housekeeping to refill the floor standing container but immediately had a small canister delivered to the gym! Cons *When I put the heat up it made a white noise which made it hard to work and not nap! *The woven chair at the desk area was not comfortable. Ultimately I used a folded towel to make it more comfortable. *The gym had no recumbent bike. *The gym had no ab board (but it did have a ball). *The gym had 3 treadmills; one was broken, one the screen was broken. *Hated the location of the gym. I have grown very fond of this place, including getting used to a certain room which makes me feel like I have my own place. This is a really cute boutique hotel. I love the brick that intertwines throughout the whole place giving it a rustic feeling. I normally see Mya or Dan at the front desk and they are always smiling and happy to check me in. They also try to accommodate my request for a certain room as I have grown to really love it and am a creature of habit. Again, I am there enough I feel like I have an apartment. Once checked in, I meander up to the room. If you pop out of the elevator, and peer over the rail, you can see all the way down to the first floor and all the beam work that went into the hotel. Once inside my room, I am greeted with an closet area for my clothes, a refreshment bar and bathroom. further in the room, I then see the high vaulted ceilings and the very comfortable bed. I love the decor in the place, it is really very cool! Item to note, there are no microwaves in the rooms, however they do have one at the lobby they can roll out. The other, they participate in a sustainable water program so you can fill up the bottles at the filtration units on each floor. They also have a limited drawer sized fridge so for those folks who like to pack water and meals may find it hard to store. Overall, you will enjoy your stay here! There are two restaurants attached to the hotel for your enjoyment so plenty of food options. read more

Stayed here and couldn't use the spa because it was overbooked and when asked after speaking to the manager Jeremy for the ability to pay to use the spa at a different day - he said no I'd have to book another stay. They didn't honor the amenities and wouldn't help me - I will not be staying here again and I made it clear that I'd be writing this review and they don't care. Customer service walking in was honestly some of the best ever, Mya was a sweetheart and helped us quickly. We booked through Super.com so we were super scared we got scammed but everything was actually perfect. It's a gorgeous big hotel in an old historic building. Room is a 8/10 we are on the second floor 205 room it's big but it's an atrium view so it looks inside the hotel and that is the only window it has so it can get a bit depressing for long periods of time but for quick 3 day stay it's fine. Clean and nice decor to make it feel homey. A very nice bar downstairs and a restaurant called Umbro I have heard good things about but haven't been too yet. I had a wonderful experience at Canopy. The hotel is conveniently located at downtown Minneapolis. I was able to go to different buildings very easily and comfortably utilizing the skyways. I heard the hotel's interior design was based on the Washburn A Mill which was the largest mill in the world. It is located two blocks away from the hotel and I definitely recommend you to visit that museum. Next to the hotel is also the bank of Mississippi River. I had a great time walking along the river at dusk. Even though the hotel has a rustic interior design the amenities are modernized and functioning well which made my stay very comfortable. The hotel has a kickass restaurant that offers one of the best Italian cuisine that I have ever had. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and I highly recommend this hotel. read more

The hotel and room were absolutely beautiful, but unfortunately, anything good stopped there. Let me start by saying my expectations were high based on the price and the great reviews I had read. First, I found this hotel through a TikTok recommendation. My boyfriend and I wanted a special spot to celebrate our anniversary, and what better place than one with a rooftop spa (tub and sauna)? Wrong. It's actually located in a completely different building, which is bad enough already but to add on, it's an extra cost on top of the already expensive room and parking. Second, for the price you're paying, you'd expect at least a few basic amenities in the room. Not even so much as a bottle of water. It's also the first hotel I've stayed at in a long time that didn't provide something as simple as a little packet of makeup wipes to prevent staining towels. Finally, the bed was one of the most uncomfortable I've ever slept on. You know those worn-out memory foam mattresses where you can feel the permanent sink in the middle? That's exactly what you get here for over $300 a night. And don't even get me started on the bar. It took forever to get a drink while the bartenders stood around the corner talking, and when I finally did, I was handed an $18 tab for one cocktail with zero customer service, not even a smile. I would have given this place one star, but the beauty of the hotel saved it. If you're looking for a similar vibe but with far better service, comfort, and attention to detail, book at the Hewing instead. Booked this with points to see a show at the Gutherie. It is a really nice-looking hotel, and we were upgraded to the king loft ceiling room. (7th floor facing 3rd st) The ceilings are really high.... like absurdly high. The room was nice and modern. The towels had some long dark hairs on them that were not ours, so it was kind of gross. The room reeked of weed every so often. The front desk messenger app said it was from outside not from another room. I really don't believe this based on the strength of the smell and the closed windows on the 7th floor. Based on the design of the hotel, we could hear the band playing at the bar in our room. I was just a bit let down based on how nice this place looked. read more

Nice property. New and trendy warehouse conversion. The few staff I encountered were trying hard and doing good job with limited resources they have during pandemic. Exceedingly clean even by Hilton standards. Good "pandemic" rate and you pay for what you get. Didn't pay much so didn't expect much in way of service. Typical of almost all hotels, very limited service 13 months after start of pandemic. Arrived at 9pm and neither of the two full service restaurants were still serving. No dinner. Neither restaurant open for breakfast either. No breakfast. Front desk did give me an apple and some water because I travel a lot and have Diamond status. In normal times I would give the stay three stars. Considering what the owners and staff are having to do just to stay in business they should get 10 stars and I am grateful. read more

Cool look. Gorgeous lobby. Woodsy appeal. Cleanliness issues. I hadn't heard of the Canopy brand by Hilton but after walking into this downtown Minneapolis location, I started to think that I'd been missing out. The lobby was spacious and the high ceilings and wood beams looks was carried through to the rooms. It all felt very outdoorsy but in a chic, modern way. My room was a nice size but quite dark. With the wood and black furniture, it could've benefitted from much more light. The walls were thin so I could hear everything that was happening in the adjacent rooms. The bed was large and comfortable but I was surprised to see a hole in the top sheet. In addition to that, there was hair all over the bathroom which wasn't mine. I called the desk to request that the room, specifically the bathroom, be cleaned the following morning. Despite talking to two desk staff, nothing got done. Since they just opened in February 2019, I'm sure they still have a few kinks to work out. So, my issue wasn't the room or the hotel in general, which is beautiful and perfectly situated in the city, but rather the customer service. Saying you're going to do something and not getting it done does not suggest that the focus is on the customer. After receiving communication from Hilton Customer Service, I added a star for effort. read more

If I had gobs of money, my place would totally look like the Canopy by Hilton. I would totally have a penthouse in downtown Minneapolis and it would be built in an old warehouse and make use of the old brick and wooden beams. It would also be decorated in trendy but rustic notes with lots of fireplaces. Yep, this place is truly beautiful and a wonderful revival of the old space. Great location downtown, close to US Bank Stadium, downtown restaurants, and the Mill District riverfront. Rooms are new and fresh and comfy. The public spaces are large and spacious, a very different trend from many locations I have been to where there is maybe a couch and you are lucky. Very chill, trendy, and relaxing place to stay. We have not stayed at the hotel yet but live close and love the lounge ambience. Dogs are welcome and the front desk gives out huge milk bones! The front desk staff are so welcoming and personable, especially Mia who went out of her way to be friendly, tell stories, and pet our dog, and give him two treats! We have eaten at Umbra numerous times, and the bar area is welcoming. The live music is fun and entertaining. What a great vibe! We look forward a staycation soon! read more

Had pizza delivered to the bar late at night after a work event since there are limited options nearby. Check out was easy, nothing special. Definitely not a 4 or 5 star hotel, so if the prices are reflective of that, I'd go to a hotel with actual amenities (pool, gym, lounge,etc). A gorgeous hotel! It's got a unique design and feel. It's kinda modern rustic. It reminds me a lot of the hotels I've stayed at in Portland, OR. The lobby is spacious with plenty of seating. The staff are extremely polite and friendly. The rooms are nice with a large shower. And the rooms themselves are pretty spacious. We stayed here while attending a family wedding over the summer and absolutely LOVED IT! It was honestly one of the coolest hotels that i've ever stayed in. Our room was on the top floor so we had SUPER high, exposed brick ceilings and I fell in love. The decor is so cool, and it is neat how they bring city culture and history into the artwork, despite being owned by a big brand like Hilton. Definitely has a local feel! They had a great bar with tasty cocktails, the restaurant was good but also had just opened so probably had some work to do still, and the breakfast buffet was tasty! There was a Trader Joe's right below (WAY TO MY HEART) and it is walking distance to an adorable farmer's market on weekends and so many fun things in Downtown Minneapolis. I have now stayed at the Canopy a few times and it is now my hotel of choice whenever I come to the Twin Cities. Not only do I love how they restored a former factory to it's present glorious self, but they did it with an eye to use and purpose. Beautiful exposed brick wall rooms, high ceilings, a huge and welcoming lobby (tons of soft seating) with bar and restaurant, it is a perfect spot to spend a weekend. Cheap (for a hotel) underground parking is connected to the hotel with in and out privilege. The Mill District neighborhood, where it's located, is also a great launching point to other locales in the cities. read more

This place is great!! Husband and I booked a staycation here for his birthday, and we loved every minute! The rooms are so unique and cozy, with rustic industrial decor, high ceilings, soft lighting, exposed brick and wood beams, and yes, a "canopy" type headboard on the bed. Speaking of which, that was the comfiest bed/pillow I've slept on in a long, long time. The location is perfect, within walking distance of mill ruins, the farmers market, the Guthrie, gold medal park, and one of our favorite restaurants (Zen Box). There are 2 restaurants downstairs in the hotel, which is convenient if you don't want to brave the cold or deal with parking. The TV also has a chrome cast, which means you can watch anything you want from your phone. Unfortunately, while we were watching ghost videos on YouTube via chrome cast, the comfy bed put us to sleep before we had a chance to go downstairs to the bar for a nightcap. We will definitely come back and make sure to check that out, because it looks great. This place is significantly less expensive than Hewing (another hotel we had considered), and honestly our stay was perfect so we recommend saving money and staying here instead. read more

Average review for a few reasons. Hotel bar stopped serving at 9:45 on a Thursday night. Room aircon does not chill - it's winter outside, but the ambient is 73 internally and all the aircon does is blow air, not chill - hotel desk said this was how it was. Decor is nice, but dual elevator stacks for east and west was sure confusing when checking in and not well explain by the front desk. Will try somewhere else next time. read more
