So happy to see a new Italian spot on the north end of Colorado Springs! We were pleasantly greeted and seated immediately and service was perfect and attentive throughout the evening. The dining room is well appointed and allows diners to feel like you can have private conversation and space. The meatballs are terrific and the sauce that accompanies is delicious! This paired with the truffle garlic cheese bread makes a match made in heaven if you dip the bread in the ample sauce that is leftover from the meatballs! The little gem Caesar is beautifully plated and expertly dressed though I felt they were a little heavy handed with the figs, but who can complain about too many figs?! My husband ordered the rigatoni bolognese but wanted to sub out the pasta and the kitchen obliged which is kind. My bucatini was fabulous, a rich cheesy sauce with a peppery bite and chicken added and the portion was massive. Since it was my birthday they brought out a complimentary chocolate hazelnut mousse cake that was both lovely and tasty! Cansano is an okay Italian restaurant priced like a great one. We started with the bread service which was the highlight of the meal. There were 3 different types of bread, each one very different from one another and worked well with the butter or olive oil. The tagliatelle with mushrooms was good but was fairly basic. I would have expected a bit more umami flavor from a mushroom ragu but it just wasn't there. I tried a bite of the 10 layer lasagna which I quite liked the pomodoro sauce but the short rib wasn't very flavorful as well as being a bit too chewy. Would have expected the short rib to melt in my mouth but it really just tasted like any other basic shredded beef. The Margherita pizza was very strange to me as it isn't what you normally expect from a Margherita pizza. There was so much cheese on this pizza as there is a layer of cheese across the entire pizza with giant clumps of mozzarella on top. It was way too cheesy and you can barely taste anything else. The basil is cut into small slivers that you can't taste at all, but this is also a byproduct by the amount of cheese on there. This was essentially just a cheese pizza with the Margherita name. We were seated outside and the weather was nice so it felt great. The music though was very strange and didn't fit the vibe of the restaurant. While the food wasn't terrible, $27 for an average pasta dish isn't worth it. Even for bread service at $8 is a bit pricey but is at least delicious. I wouldn't come back. read more

When we were looking up reviews for Cansano, we thought why not try some place new on this side of town. For the prices we saw we had somewhat high expectations. However Cansano is mediocre for us. I ordered the clam linguine, and the base sauce didn't have much love in it. It was just bland. I also opted to add a protein and asked for scallops. However when I got my plate, only one scallop was on my dish. $12 for one scallop is pretty crazy. I was definitely expecting 2-3. My husband ordered the chicken Alfredo and you get about two servings of chicken. He definitely enjoyed it. I did really like the appetizer we got, but had to send back our first order of bread service. It was pretty burnt. Overall, I'd be willing to try it again but ordering a different dish, and not adding any additional proteins. Restaurant is well lit, great ambiance, staff was extremely friendly. Please save yourself hassle and avoid for now. Had reservation at 8:00 pm. Showed up at 7:55. No one at host stand- waited 4-5 minutes for hostess to show up. Told her I had a reservation for 8:00. She didn't look surprised, but rather kind of an "uh-oh". Went to computer, did something then walked past me and said something to the effect of "It will be just a minute". Went and talked to kitchen through the pass. Came back a minute or two later and said "just a few minutes more". Disappeared for 5+ minutes. Got to watch an annoying drunk guy from the bar loudly try and be funny with the life size santa. Finally, another woman comes up and tells me, sorry they weren't busy enough and had closed the kitchen. I went to leave, decided I'd let her know this wasn't good, finally got her attention to tell her. Started telling her I had a reservation and they should have at least let me know. She started to argue. I was a little abrupt and told her they'd made a very bad first impression. Ended up at parrys pizzeria. Probably not as good food (but who knows, with this level of respect to customers why assume Cansano's cares about ingredients or quality) but immediate service, great wait staff, attentive, friendly. Almost like they gave a damn about me as a customer. Went to leave a review around 8:35, couldn't because open table thought I was there. Guess what? Cansano's was still taking reservations for 8:45. I'm pretty sure it's not hard to stop taking reservations. Covid's over guys, you don't get a pass now. You want to be a business? Be open. Treat your customers decently- maybe even well. Don't be rude. If they are still open in 6 months maybe I'll come back and try again and see if they have righted the ship. But probably not, there are plenty of other options. Seriously the best Italian food in springs - and I'm part Italian & super picky! It's sad that maybe old reviews taint this place - which is why we were hesitant to try it. But we came for our anniversary and everything from the service (Rod!!) to the food, wine, and ambiance were impeccable. They brought us a complementary champagne AND dessert for our anniversary, which was so kind. But hands down, this was the best food from the appetizer to the dessert! Loved the ambiance and service we received at Cansano. Our waiter, Rod, was helpful, inviting and made us feel comfortable immediately. In addition to great service this food was divine. Excellent quality steak, pasta, and pizzas where you have a little something for everyone. Not only was the food so good I didn't get pictures of it, the desserts of tiramisu and chocolate cake both melted in our mouths and were a perfect way to end our meal. The old fashioned, for drinks, was reportedly one of the best our party had had - extra smokey with a nice little hint of sweetness. It was a birthday celebration for a party of 11 on a Tuesday and the service was spot on. The food came out in a timely manner as well as the drinks. I really like the ambiance because it is low lit with background music. I prefer this rather than brightly lit industrial spots for dinner. We had calamari and garlic cheese bread for appetizers that I would definitely order again. I ordered the chicken piccata and the reason I am taking time out to write this review. There is a scallop dish to avoid - unless you really appreciate a jar and a half of capers. I have never seen that many capers in a dish in my entire life and was overwhelming to the two who ordered it. Fortunately, my chicken piccata was the best I have even had. I hesitate to order it in a restaurant because the breast meat is often ropey and dry but this was so not the case. If they remain consistent it will absolutely be my "go to." The shrimp Fra Diavolo was very, very spicy and was a challenge to the person who likes spice. It is not for the faint of heart. Other dishes were good too according to the other patrons. The martinis were a disappointment because they were room temperature, and the blue cheese olives broke apart which gave rise to a lot of floaties. I order this all the time and have never experienced that before. I know not every bartender can please everyone all the time, so I won't be ordering them again from Cansano. A bit of a rarity for northern Colorado Springs, Cansanos is an incredible bright spot for moderately priced high-end Italian fair. This was our first experience in what feels like a mix of an old school east coast Italian place with some more modern touches. The homemade pasta was outstanding - I had the Linguine with clam sauce and my wife had the tagliatelle but the real star was the mussels - which was prepared in a way we'd never seen before. Service was paced well - we weren't in a rush and never felt like we needed to be even though we were some of the last out. Bar service was good and provided interesting twists on some classics. I visited this restaurant for the first time yesterday with my 12-year-old son. I want to be clear: the hostesses were kind, friendly, and accommodating both on the phone and when we arrived. Unfortunately, everything went downhill once we were seated. Our waiter (name unknown) was rude, dismissive, and visibly irritated from the moment he approached the table. When I politely asked if the lights could be dimmed slightly, he reacted as if I had asked for something outrageous. His tone and body language made it immediately uncomfortable. He brought us warm water without asking. Odd, but I let it go. I ordered a dirty martini, which was honestly awful. I didn't finish it and didn't complain. When he asked if it was okay, I said "it's fine" simply to avoid further interaction. He never offered a replacement, never checked back about drinks, and never asked if I wanted anything else. My son wanted shrimp scampi, which they don't offer. I asked if they could do shrimp pasta with red sauce since shrimp and pasta are already on the menu. He said yes, but then gave a strange, condescending explanation about how they "couldn't accommodate the specific dish," despite agreeing to modify an existing one. The entire exchange felt unnecessarily hostile. Given the vibe and the menu, I ordered a pizza for myself just to be safe. I asked if chicken could be added. Again, I was met with an irritated look and tone, as if I had asked for a custom, off-menu production. When the food arrived, my son's pasta was completely drowned in marinara sauce to the point it was inedible. I calmly called the waiter over and showed him. He looked annoyed. When I began explaining that I wanted to replace it with a pizza, he cut me off mid-sentence and walked away from the table. At that point, a manager came over and said my son's replacement pizza was already in the oven and apologized for the wait. She seemed willing to listen, but the situation clearly had already been framed as a complaint *about me*, rather than a service failure. The pasta was removed from the bill, which was appropriate, but it didn't address the bigger issue. The waiter later attempted to push dessert on us despite the obvious tension. We declined and just wanted to leave. Even my 12-year-old commented on how rude the waiter had been and how fake his smile was as he walked away. The final and most concerning part: I spent the entire night with a severe stomachache after eating only two slices of the pizza. Whether it was the cheese, the pesto, or something else, the food did not sit right and absolutely raises concerns about quality and handling. This was not just "an off night." This was poor service, poor attitude, uncomfortable interactions, and food that made me sick. I will not be returning, and I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Management seriously needs to address staff behavior, food quality, and basic hospitality standards before this happens to someone else. With nothing marked gluten-free on the menu, I had serious doubts about dining here. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the gluten-free options. Most pasta entrees can be made GF but not the chicken specialties. Most salads are also GF, as well as most sides. No GF bread, and the only GF dessert was the spumoni ice cream. The waiter noted that the scallop dish wouldn't be as good with the GF pasta because the sauce is light, so I opted for the red bolognese. The sauce was rich and delicious and the GF pasta held up well and was perfectly cooked. When the dish was delivered they confirmed that it was GF and mentioned avoidance of CC. We had a really nice experience here. The restaurant is contemporary yet inviting. Upon arrival, a thoughtful birthday card was waiting on the table signed by the staff- a nice touch. We started with a Manhattan cocktail and it was made perfectly. I don't know why, but it has been difficult to find a well-made Manhattan these days and at Cansano, the bartender knew what they were doing. We started with the Steamed Mussels and Mama's Meatballs. Both were so delicious I would come back every day just for these menu items. Very flavorful and satisfying. Both were served with artisan crostini to soak up all the wonderful flavors in the mussel broth and meatball sauce. For entrees we had the Dry-Aged Ribeye and the Akaushi Filet mignon with an add-on of scallops. Sides are ordered separately and we chose to have the Roasted Yukon Potatoes and the Asparagus with parmesan and lemon. Each side was enough to share amongst two people. The asparagus was delectable and the potatoes were flavorful but a few were overcooked. The steaks were under-seasoned and not exactly cooked to order. The temperatures of the steak were different from side to side (well done to medium to rare then to medium rare). The scallops were over-salted but perfectly seared. They have an excellent wine list that I feel complements their menu. We ordered the Flowers Vineyard and Winery Pinot Noir and it paired with our meal beautifully. We were so full but I didn't want to miss out on dessert so I ordered the Tiramisu to go. I ate it the next day and honestly, one of the best Tiramisu's I've had. Service was absolutely lovely. Our server, Brooklyn, was so sweet and very attentive. The manager, Julie, assisted to make sure our meals were delivered in a timely manner so they didn't sit on the pass. Service truly was excellent. We are certainly going to try Cansano again. I do feel they need a little work on steak preparation, especially given their steak prices; however, overall- we had such a nice experience and we thoroughly enjoyed some other excellent menu items. If your paying $58 for a steak you would expect it to be cooked to perfection. We'll not so much. It was well done and the texture was tough on the outer portion. The mussels needed to be cleaned more. Grit is never appreciated, and all the mussels on the plate should be opened. I'm sure the meatballs served as the appetizers are the same that are used on the pizza, and in the spaghetti. They are very good. Try making them bigger for a appetizers to make it feel like an appetizers, not an afterthought for another dish. The chicken parm is very East coast tasting. Taste deep fried and heavy. Cansano represents themselves as a swanky steakhouse, but in reality the experience is one step above an Outback Steakhouse. The atmosphere is missing something, I just wasn't buying it, if that makes sense. Maybe the lighting was too bright, maybe the view into the kitchen, on the walk in lowered my expectations of what was to come, or maybe it was the cloudy cocktail ice in my old fashioned. My filet was tender, but under seasoned, juiceless, and overcooked because it was obviously taken out of the fridge and not brought to room temperature before cooking. The friendly staff was happy to return it to the kitchen for me, and report it was at proper temp in the center for medium rare despite the edges being medium well. Unlike any steakhouse I've ever been to, they don't offer a baked potato and instead pushed a $10 bowl of tasteless Yukon gold finger potatoes that just did nothing for me. The friendly staff brought us a free dessert for our anniversary, which was delicious and appreciated. All in all, I would not recommend when we have so many great independent steakhouses here in our little town that nail the ambiance and full steakhouse experience. read more

The first disappointment was the winelist, which we thought had a ridiculous number of very expensive bottles for the quality of the restaurant and food, should add more options under $50. We looked around and almost no table had a bottle of wine (seems a missed opportunity at an Italian restaurant). We ordered the mussels and they were strangely overly complicated (way too many things going on, spicy and lemony and olives and onions, overly salted, etc. etc.). Would suggest less is more in terms of number of ingredients in that dish. It was also served with the smallest portion of bread I have ever seen for a $24 mussels appetizer-- one super skinny piece of toasted, buttered, salted bread cut in two pieces. We asked for additional bread (to soak up the sauce) and found out our options were the "bread service" for $8 (why, just want a couple pieces of bread) or additional sourdough. We opted for the latter. What came (only after we had finished the mussels) was two pieces of the same salty skinny toast that was not great for soaking up the (already salty) sauce. (Found out later when we got the check that they charge per slice of bread, thus charged two portions, which was just weird). We then had an underwhelming chopped salad with our main course (a pizza). The salad was wilted (like it had been dressed hours before) with the saddest looking roasted peppers and cheese cubes with no flavor. My wife and I enjoyed our dinner at Cansano's. The ambiance and service was great. The greeter and waiter were on point and very helpful. Mixed reviews on the food. The drinks were very good. The salad, lasagna, and Yukon potatoes were excellent. My 18-oz. dry aged New York strip steak was undercooked, when they first brought it out. They warmed it up, but it was still a little more rare than I would like for a Medium steak, when I got it. The steak was not too flavorful, but the dipping sauce was very good. At the end of the dinner, I got a free dessert for my birthday. Total was about $185 (including cocktails and tip). The parking was a little odd. There's no lot in front of the restaurant, so we just parked on the street and walked across. It's kind of an odd location, right across from a gas station and fast food places. The patio looks nice, but there was nobody out there, despite the nice weather. Maybe it gets used more in the Summer. Overall, I want to like this place. It's got potential, but still needs a little work (e.g., to market itself better in a city filled with competing steak houses). read more

We wanted to love this place because it's new and Italian but we won't be coming back. Our experience began with a let down waitress who was clearly untrained - long time to greet, left menus on table during entire meal, didn't offer dessert and personably aloof for a restaurant of "this caliber." Our waitress called over an unusually quiet sommelier to pour our bottle. That was the last time we would see him to refill our flutes during the entire seating, to include our waitress. We started with calamari and artichoke hearts - the most disappointing part of our entire meal. The artichoke hearts were inedible. They were grilled so dry that we felt like we were eating leaves off the ground in October. The calamari was greasy, BLAND and full of peppers. The entrees were a slight improvement but overall on par with the disappointment. The noodles in the shrimp scampi were BLAND...comparable to a kids kids menu butter noodle entree, with what looked like boiled shrimp. The cook on the branzino was perfect; however, the salt missing from every other plate apparently ended up here. What a shame. The receipt was presented folded on the table, with no book, like we were eating at IHOP and hadn't just spent $42 on a plate of branzino. Ratchet. This was a loud, overpriced disappointment that I hope they fix before foodies catch on. We're now sitting next door enjoying drinks at a better restaurant. read more

The service and quality control is amazing. The general manager and owner are patrolling the floor helping out and asking about the dining experience. Best lasagna I had in years. Will be returning!!! read more
