Ended up at this place for first date and truly took my breath away. The ambience is super nice and it was pretty quiet to be able to have a conversation. I would love to shout out our waitress, however, I don't know her name. But she was the perfect balance of attentiveness and understanding that we were probably on a first date with how much we kept talking. She was really sweet on taking our orders, and checking in on us. For drinks my day got an old old-fashioned, which I ended up trying- and it was pretty good. I personally got the Cosmo and it was decent. I'm generally more of a gin and tonic, but it was still delicious. For food, we got the fried mac & cheese, balls, and crab stuffed mushrooms. Both had such a great flavor. And I think our favorite was dipping the bread from the crab, stuffed mushrooms in the garlic mixture at the. For entrée, my date got the halibut. And honestly, the sauce was amazing. For my lobster rolls they were both very fresh and delicious. But honestly, I could not eat both. My sister and I stopped here on our last night in CO Springs to fulfill her seafood cravings and we had a great time! We got two apps, the Prince Edward Island mussels and the black garlic fries. The fries came in a massive bowl for like $10 which was a nice deal especially with the housemade aioli. I got the catch of the day which, I believe, was a blackened red snapper with a creole sauce, potatoes, and asparagus. My sister got a tower and was very pleased with the freshness of the oysters. Our server was Doug and he was awesome! He gave us some extra hollandaise and aioli to go with our leftovers. From the cocktails and oysters to the entrees, everything was exceptional. The filet was perfectly tender, and the sauce complemented the dish beautifully. The pasta exceeded our expectations-the sauce truly took it to the next level. Service was outstanding, with no wait time and quick seating. I mean for the prices you think the wait staff would wear more than T-shirts and some short shorts. lol i'm not even kidding. They are charging $50-$100 for a steak or $40 for a small piece of fish and the waitresses wear pirate T-shirts. I had the oysters à la carte which I did enjoy they really do prepare them nicely. If I come back, it'll be specifically for their oysters. As far as my dates Alaskan halibut it was not seasoned at all, literally just smothered in hollandaise sauce... I ordered the roasted beet salad thinking that it was going to be the size of a normal salad. However, it was very fluffed up and pretty hard to eat to be honest considering the field greens weren't cut properly. Also, I assume that the roasted beets were going to be the main part of the salad since that's how the menu has it listed. We decided to check out Bonny and Read happy hour. Happy hour can be served in the restaurant not just the bar area. It's Sunday- Thurs 3-5. We tried raw oysters (on the small side), Blue crab dip, Crab stuffed mushrooms, & Beer batter Alaskan Halibut (so good). All the appetizer were great! They also give amazing customer service. We celebrated my husband's 44th birthday tonight and had a really nice dinner. Our server was Wesley and he did a good job with accommodating us to get lighter because I brought candles for dessert. He was attentive yet not overwhelming which I love in a server. We had the crème brûlée for dessert which was really really good and executed well. My husband had the scallop dish which was the best dish of the night. The scallops were seared really well and seasoned nicely. The mussels weren't our cup of tea because they were a little fishy, we each tried one and our server promptly addressed the situation and we got a dozen more raw oysters from Maryland and all the oysters were awesome. Their mignonette had a lot of flavor as well. I had the ahi which was executed well but I am just not a crispy rice fan which is entirely my own preference but I would just double down on scallops next time. I liked the music too which was reggae however there are a lot of flickering lights which was not my favorite. read more

Came here for a late night dinner with some old friends on a recent trip back to Colorado Springs. Having grown up in Colorado Springs I've pretty much tried every restaurant downtown, so it was nice trying something I haven't had before. Came in with no expectations and left happily satisfied. Service was great throughout the meal and the server continued to provide great service even as we were the last table. I don't recall what everyone else got, but I ordered the prime rib and really enjoyed it. We also enjoyed several of their cocktails which were all great. Spicy - so I especially liked it. And so much I ate it with my fork. My husband got the scallops with polenta. The scallops very good; the polenta quite bland as polenta usually is. I ordered the salmon - tender and flaky. Served with rice and broccolini it tasted good and healthy. My husband loved the snickers pie. I had to tell him it wouldn't be polite to lick the plate. Bonny and Read was introduced to me by my brother's friend. This is his favorite restaurant in the Springs and I can see why. Their menu is all so mouth watering! The staff here all seem so helpful and attentive. This place got packed pretty quickly so I can only imagine how much stressful this night was for them but they all seem to be unfazed. We started with a round of drinks: Old Fashion was my my poison and it was delicious! For appetizers we all shared the blue crab dip and the shrimp and scallops ceviche. Both were pretty, but I was a little confused why there was a snow crab claw in the blue crab dip.. I know the claw was mainly for decorations but I found it odd. The shrimp and scallops ceviche had the small cocktail shrimps in the ceviche which I didn't like too much. For $18 I would think that chunks of good shrimp should be used over the cheap version. For my entree I ordered the special that evening which was the sirloin steak with crab stuffed mushrooms. My steak was perfectly cooked medium rare and the stuffed mushrooms were very flavorful. The customer service was great, everyone was friendly and our server checked on us often. The clam chowder is a must try. The rib eye had a garlic butter on top which was an added plus. All seating are well spaced booths which is so nice because you can have a little privacy. Our server was very attentive and nice. She also worked the bar so she was busy. Quality concerns here. For the exorbitant prices, this was unacceptable. We ordered a single round of oysters. They were quite tasty, but on the small side at $3-$3.50/each. Served with horseradish, sauce, and vinegar with onion. We tried the crab dip, which was tasty, but the dipping items were sub-par. The crackers were quite stale. The bread was decent and the red pepper was fine as were the carrots, but the celery and the broccoli were both brown at the ends and dirty with actual black gunk (pictured) which says to me they were not rinsed or prepped. GROSS! We also ordered a bowl of chowder, which was good but needed salt. None at the tables, which was unfortunate. The chowder was served with more of the stale crackers. As usual, I need half star reviews to be an option. I'd give this 3 1/2. We decided to try a new restaurant and this is the one we settled on. I did make reservations ahead of time, but I think that it is very likely you may have been able to walk in. It was the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, so I am thinking that could by why it was not super busy. We were seated right away. I do like that all of the booths have high backs, so there is a bit of privacy for every table. It took some time for our waitress to come over with water and to take our drink order. None of the apps appealed enough to me to order. So we stuck with filet bonny style (blue crab and hollandaise) and my husband had the filet with blue cheese crust. They were both cooked as ordered (rare) and the steak itself had great flavor and was a nice cut of meat. The hollandaise was not that great and I would not recommend that addition. My husband's blue cheese crust, wasn't really crust. It was a lot of blue cheese and really good, strong blue cheese, but almost overpowered the steak and just needed to be melted more. That blue cheese would be so good on a burger! The side for both was mashed potatoes and broccolini. Both okay. My husband ordered a glass of the Malbec. I don't know if the bottle had been open for too long. or if it was just a bad wine but the flavor was almost vinegary on the finish. It is the first time in our lives, that we were tempted to send a glass of wine back. There is no bread that comes with the meal. As an FYI, for anyone that may be wanting that. Multiple times we were left without water and our waitress having said, I'll bring you water and then just forgetting. It wasn't extremely busy, so felt that she would have been a bit more on top of that. Especially when she verbalized that she was going to bring it, as she noticed walking by that we needed more So the food was good, but we've had better locally so that would be the reason that I don't think that we would return. read more

Six of us had dinner on a Monday night. I found this place on Yelp and was happy they could accommodate us. Four of us went with the rib eye and two got the lobster Cobb salad. One guy who was happy with his steak had ordered it rare but likes it medium rare. He said it was perfect. But he had to scrape off the blue cheese he did not order. One guy who ordered it medium rare it came out perfect. The two who ordered the lobster salad had to ask for the lobster. They forgot it. They both loved their salad once the lobster arrived. One said it was very tasty and especially with the dressing. My steak was over cooked. I ate very little of it. I ate the few broccolini and some mashed potatoes. But I didn't say anything because we had waited almost an hour for our food. We did not order appetizers, only the main meal. Bonny and Read is a gem in downtown Colorado Springs! This place is the package deal, great food, great service, and a great ambiance! Our server, Bri was fantastic! She was so intuitive and attentive. We had barely even sat down before she arrived with water and menus and a friendly smile. She took great care of us and we were so impressed with her professionalism and her outstanding customer service. The ambiance is incredible. I love all the high backed booths. It lends itself to be a romantic setting or the type of setting where you know you can have a private business conversation. There are also larger booths for groups. It happened to be snowing on the night that we dined here, and looking out the window, I felt like I was in Manhattan. People were walking on the streets, there were lights in the trees, and it was just such a beautiful snowfall. It's such a great setting inside and out. Appetizer: Blue Crab Dip The base of this dip is creamy and dairy-based and super rich. It was fantastic, but I will say that it was lacking in that hearty crab flavor. I tasted more of the sauce than I did the seafood. The baguettes that were served with it were fantastic. Salad: Roasted Beet Salad Beet salads all tend to be pretty comparable from restaurant to restaurant, but I must say the pomegranate vinaigrette on this salad was to die for good. It was so citrusy and acidic and was the perfect blend of flavors. It's what makes Bonny and Reads roasted beet salad stand apart from other restaurants. Entrées: Wild-Caught Alaskan Cod Oh my, this was insanely good. The lobster was the cherry on top. It was so perfectly cooked and you could just taste the absolute sweetness of it. The hollandaise sauce was so light and creamy and the chef added the perfect amount. The cod was so flaky and fresh. The grilled asparagus was a nice touch for a fresh vegetable that paired well with the cod. And who doesn't love asparagus with hollandaise sauce! I can't wait to come back to this restaurant and have this entrée again and again and again, it was that good! Alaskan Halibut Although this was the dish my husband ordered not me, I was able to try it and it was also insanely good. I loved the pairing with the red potatoes which just added to the flavor of the fish. It was perfectly prepared and tasted incredibly fresh! Dessert: Key Lime Tart The presentation was so pretty with this beautiful little tart. I will say I was a little disappointed with the crust. Although I was kind of expecting a graham cracker crust, I should have paid more attention to the desserts description, because it really was a tart. The tart crust was just a little flavorless and chewy to me. The key lime filling was fantastic and had that zippy lime flavor that you would expect with any Keylime dessert. I'm so impressed with this restaurant and will definitely be back and I have complete confidence in recommending it to anyone who's interested in fantastic seafood, a beautiful setting, and incredible staff. Kitchen was very slow, waited an hour for our food. The plywood dividers are pathetic, they move and people are constantly hitting them. The bathrooms are in dire need of repair. The floors are a mess going in and out of the kitchen. For a restaurant that's supposed to be upscale and is expensive it should be in great condition. I think it needs an inspection. WOW...I've been in Colorado Springs for 4 years and just found this place. My husband and I thought we'd try a new place. This will now be a part of our rotation of nice restaurants. We wanted to get a taste of a variety of things, so we did appetizers: fresh Maryland oysters, amazing New England clam chowder, crab stuffed mushrooms, tuna tartare and no room for much more than off the menu ice cream with chocolate and caramel syrup and some fresh strawberries.
