Super tasty Mexican place N of Central Park on Kingsway. Still remember when this place used to be Greek (Minoas). Parking is available in the lot behind the building, as well on the side streets. The venue looks like it used to be someone's house. There's even what looks like a living room downstairs. Definitely a strange layout. Not sure what goes on there, but the regular dining room seems to be upstairs. There is a nice large S facing patio and large bar area. The place is brightly coloured, with yellow and orange walls. Staff are friendly. No complaints. I had the alambra carnivoro. This thing is pretty epic. Basically a pile of fajita fillings (meat, peppers, onions, peppers, cheese, and more meat bits) in a pile, served with soft tortillas and a pile of sides (rice, refried beans, salsa,and guacamole). I just sat and stared at the big beautiful dish. Maybe I was super hungry, but it was very delicious. I left satisfied and happy. Definitely worth checking out if one needs a Mexican fix in the area. Came here during the "Bite of Burnaby" promotion. 3 course meal for $35. Good pricing and value. I got this instead of the Taco Tuesdays special - 3 tacos for $12 - because the BoB menu had enchiladas for the main. I love enchilada and that's always my go to order. For the starter I ordered the Esquites. It was nice but too liquidy after a while. The chicken enchilada with red sauce was ok. The refried beans and rice were not the best I had and that was usually my favorite part. The dessert was Passionfruit cheesecake. Initially they said it was out of stock and would replace with tres leches cake (yay my fave). But they somehow managed to find the Passionfruit cheesecake and served that. It was not good at all. It didn't taste like cheesecake. Good thing that's usually not on the menu. R had the tacos instead. I tried some of that. He got the Birria, asada and pastor. Of those, I prefer the pastor. Very tender and flavorful. The horchata was pretty good but at $7, I thought that was a bit on the high side. We may come back for taco Tuesday ($4 each with min 3 purchased) or burrito Wednesday ($14) in future. I'm glad this place is being used again after the Greek restaurant closed when the owners retired. The layout is still the same. It can get really loud at any of the tables by the speakers. Just okay tacos. I ordered 3 tacos, $7-8/ea. They did offer free chips for the table though! Lengua, Arrachera and Compechano and it took 40min minutes...ordered at 6:50PM and food arrived a bit after 7:30PM. It was pretty busy on a Friday night, the table next to us was also waiting a long time. Saw two birthdays, and they brought out a sombrero hat and cheer, which was fun. I came here with B for dinner and was quite impressed. I got a Horchata and a three tacos (asada, birria and chicharron). The taco was really filling. The Horchata was very delicious and creamy. It is probably because they added vanilla ice cream to it. B got a Modelo and a tortas. He said the sauce on the tortas was really good. For dessert, we shared a churro. That was very delicious as well. The decor of the place is very Mexican decorated or themed. I really like the atmosphere. The outside is decorated or painted in a way that it reminded me of the colorful houses in Mexico. Service was good as well. There is plenty of free parking at the back of the restaurant. Second time at Cantarito and it's such a gem! Love that it's in a beautiful heritage house -- gives it such a cozy, charming vibe! We tried the quessa birria tacos, a cantarito, tamarindo and chimichanga, and piña colada. The birria and cantarito were amazing -- super flavorful and satisfying. The chimichanga felt a bit underwhelming though, and the piña colada was just okay. Service has definitely improved -- much quicker and more attentive this time around. One thing I wish they had: homemade salsa roja and salsa verde. The salsa served tasted more store-bought, and it didn't quite match the rest of the authentic vibe. This location is ideal easy to access, had parking and the outside of the building and inside decor is beautiful . The server was nice but the actual service was verrrry slow. We waited too long in between our drinks and appetizers. The food was okay. When I got my enchiladas the cheese that had melted was now hardened again so I know it was sitting there for a while before coming to our table. They were busy so I thought it might be an indication of the quality of food but I wasn't wowed! The nachos were good. The Tres leches cake was awful. The garnish was old and browning. The tacos were almost $8 each and were very plain, with no lime or sauce. The birria taco was not authentic, it did not have double tortillas, and it broke apart after one bite. The tacos were also dry. When I asked for the consommé with the birria tacos, I didn't receive it until after I had already finished eating. Loved the interior of the restaurant and it reminded me of being in Mexico! Tried out the Chile rellenos and they were super cheesy and tasty! Love every bite and it even came with 4 tortillas for an even more filling meal. The service was slow and lackluster though unfortunately as they got my friend's order wrong 3 times. I went to this amazing Mexican vibe restaurant. It's built outside like a house and inside very colorful. You would totally be transported to Mexico once you enter. They have a bit loud sometime Mexican music playing in background , many rooms with restaurant tables. We ordered veg burrito which was really nice, fresh filling and flavourful. It had lot of cheese in it. The salsa by the side was yummy as well. It's a really big sized burrito and heavy too. The cheesy quesadillas is just an entree but can be good choice if you are not that hungry. It's quite on the bland side. The chiles rellenos queso is something totally new to me but it was good to try. The flavours were good and portion size was huge. Nachos on side I really liked they are very fresh and crisp. The service is great and we meet local Mexican people here. All in all good restaurant to try and I shall be a regular customer there. They also got really cool drinks menu with some authentic Mexican cocktails that many people around me were trying. The vibes are very lively and you can go with friends or family both. Prices are decent for the portion size you get. I felt like it's one of those hidden house restaurants for Mexican food in Burnaby which you can go again and again. read more

Buddy and I went for an early dinner on Monday. The house is beautiful, bright and homey. The server was attentive. We ordered three mains: the chille rejeno, the enchiladas, and a big meat platter (I forgot the name). All were HUGE portions. They were way bigger than I expected. I should have clued in when our server asked if someone would be joining us. lol. We quite like the food. My only quibble was that we found it a little salty. There was salt available on the table as well. I would like he salt at the cooking stage cut back about 50% and folks who like salty food can always add it at the table. (Note: I like my food a little on the salty side, but this was a tad too much, even for me). I ordered the strawberry margarita (half price on Mondays) - it was delicious. I would definately ho again. I'd love to try the tacos on Tuesday, when they are on special for $4 each when at least three are ordered. Yum! read more

I have been back 2 or 3 times now several months after they opened and I do have to agree with some of the earlier reviews. I really really like the taco Tuesday deal and love the tacos here, however from my experience there are a few things they need to work on, mostly operations. I already messaged them directly and my feedback included: service is too slow, once we ordered a churro for dessert and it took 40 min to arrive, once everyone got their food at the same time except one person had to wait 25 min extra for their meal, we wanted dessert but didn't want to wait because of the first experience so we didn't order. Their response was very positive and grateful for feedback and they know they have some things to smooth out! I love the ambiance and decorations here, I am really hoping they only improve from here as they continue to grow! read more

The early reviews for this new place haven't been good, and when we went a couple of Sundays ago, July 14th, things don't appear to have improved. We arrived just after 3pm, and our orders were finally taken at 3.30pm. Our order for two were six tacos, and there was a delay in the food arriving as well. There wasn't any checking in either. The food was good, not outstanding, and certainly not justifying the delay. The place wasn't full but there were several tables for late in the afternoon. It wasn't like they were short staffed either, as there were many members of the staff milling about. We were seated on the west side of the restaurant at a window, and there was this large table that seats about ten that was unbussed despite staff walking by, taking a chair for another group for example. Food: taste...AMAZING! Portion size...very generous! Service...adequate. Had to wait 20+ minutes for our 2 margaritas....but they were delicious when they arrived. Had to ask for another pitcher of water. The restaurant was busy, but not crazy busy. Our server was friendly and polite, but I think she was new to serving tables....not overly attentive. Ambiance: Being the first time there, I highly, highly, highly recommend you do not go on a hot day. Unfortunately, the restaurant does not have air conditioning and it was boarderline unbearable.....especially if you are seated upstairs. I saw an advertisement few tables where people had small handheld fans to keep them cool. They had a few windows open, but it didn't make a difference. I have visited Cantarito's restaurant on april 25 2025 with LatinoAmerican choir Canto Vivo.Very pleasant enviorement excellent food and excellent service.They served me a lot of food,i had to take some home in a container.The plastic container is free which is also a bonus.We were a group of choir singers so we had a karaoke to ourselves,there was a lot of singing and dancing.The place is quite spacious downstairs an upstairs.Excellent for birthday parties.I will visit them again with my friends.I just can not forget that yammy food. All I will say is that they need help!!!! And fast! Because first impressions are key and the impression it gave me last night is DON'T GO AGAIN!! Which is not how you want people to feel about your new restaurant!! I've had bad experiences in restaurants before but that one is near the top of the worst ones ever!!! Poor service! Chaotic atmosphere! Ok tasting food but very poorly and sloppy plated and unappetizing! And dirty dishes! I hope they get their act together because it'll never survive and I felt really bad for them because they were trying really hard but even their best wasn't near good enough. The worst experience! Horrendous...a 2.5 hr wait to get food that came cold and inedible - but were still charged for it. It's not unheard of to have an off night, but this was something special 7-8 servers not even a full house and we had to flag someone down to get any kind of service. When food was brought out the inside was cold and when brought to the attention of the server a slight giggle and lame apology was supposed to be suffice. When asked for the manager we were told there wasn't one to speak to- no surprise with the way the place was running . I'm not looking for free anything but acknowledgment that the service and food were sub par should have been reflected in the bill over $180.00 for 3 people and one meal couldn't even be eaten is absurd. I had been waiting for this place for months! There is not much else in walking distance in this neighbourhood. The food was tasty, but the experience disappointing. We waited quite awhile to get served by a person that didn't even speak to us during our meal, it was strange. I have a small appetite so I ordered a tostada as my main, asking for it to be my main, but they brought it as an appetizer anyway so it sat on the table in front of me for nearly 30 minutes while my friends waited for their food to arrive. The bartender made good margaritas, but one at a time is very slow : a shaker can fit more liquid, to do two at once! There's a really annoying door alarm installed, when a customer walks in downstairs it dings really loudly. When someone holds the door open or it becomes propped open the dinging goes on endlessly. It ruined the ambiance. I would like to give this spot another try: I LOVE a margarita and would like to sit at the bar, however they have stools that are about 18" too short so you can't actually sit there. I'll try one more time. It's also very expensive for where it is, and what it is. $22 for a double margarita, and $8 for a bottled beer is just a bit too much. read more

We so wanted to love this restaurant. The decor and ambiance is amazing, they really put forth the effort in branding and transformed it from the Greek family restaurant Minoas. The service was prompt and attentive but the food and warm beer was a HUGE letdown. Nothing tastes fresh or homemade. Canned refried beans, sauces, mixes. At least you'll get melted cheese, sour cream and guacamole at the mall. They need help from someone's Abuela, stat! read more

Terrible food. Food was not as advertised.... Lettuce and tomatoes missing. Also my huaraches order was lukewarm so I sent it back. When it arrived it was missing lettuce and Pico de Gallo. The asada meat was tough and not flavourful. The enchilada verdes was missing lettuce and tomato. The cloth napkin was damp and got my pants wet. Service was also poor, seemed disorganized. Myself and 2 friends dined at this fairly new restaurant last evening, for the first time. On the menu there was an entry - Taco Tuesday! We all decided that is what we would to try. Also Taco Tuesday states all Tacos $4.00, must order no less than three. This we did. When we received our bill we were charged the regular price for the individual tacos. Told the server there was a mistake and showed her the menu. She said that it wasn't right and it will have to be removed from the menu. When questioned if she was going to adjust our bills, she said "NO". Non of us will return, only because of this. Also word of mouth is the best advertising. So buyer be ware, the menu prices may not be what you are charged. The food was good, the service could be better. read more

My family and I were really looking forward to trying this new Mexican restaurant, being that my wife is from Mexico. Unfortunately, the restaurant definitely didn't meet our expectations. We got there and were seated fairly fast and ordered our food and drinks (a total of 7 tacos, a coke and 2 corona's) We waited about 20 minutes and our food came, but the drinks took another 15 minutes. We were almost finished the tacos when the drinks came. After finishing the food, we waited about 20 mins more before the server came and took our order for dessert. My wife and daughter ordered the cake and I ordered the churros. We waited again, and when the server brought the dessert, it was 2 orders of churros and 1 cake. I explained that she got the order wrong, and after confirming we still wanted the second cake she left. It took at least 15-20mins for the second cake to come, but which time we were ready to go. The bill came to 92.22 which I found overly pricy for what we got. Yes, the tacos were somewhat tasty, but overall, the meal had something to be desired. The service was mediocre at best. They seemed to have plenty of staff, I counted at least 8 people walking around, but they were very disoganized. The owner, if was there, needs to make sure that somebody is expediating the orders and keeping things running smoothly. As it stands, if you want a good Mexican meal, try La Playa Taqueria in New West. You get your monies worth for the food and the service is a hell of a lot faster. read more
