A wide variety of mexicana dishes. The food was fresh and made to order. Some of the flavours were lacking some seasoning but it was still good. The portions were great. The ambience was breezy and casual. The service was a a little lacking as we needed to ask twice for certain twice but meh.... Worth a try

Came during happy hour and it was quite busy. Tried the enchiladas (smaller portion 1 enchilada + beans + rice) for $10 chips + pico de gallo , this was $10 taste was good but seemed pricy for the portion size. Wings + beer combo. Enchilada was tasty , cheesy and they had two types of hot sauce on the table. Service was lacking a little - ours forgot our drink order and took quite awhile to come back to us but the other server was better + friendly once we could flag them down. Food came out really fast once we ordered.

The decor has changed and it is not as over bearing as it was before. Looks alit better. The patio was full and so was the inside. A very popular place. I found the service a bit slow and our waitress had to have someone finish for her. She explained something happened and couldn't speak. However she did come back when she got sorted out. Food was very good but not the greatest. I've had better in Mexico and other Mexican restaurants. Still the food was very good. Enchiladas were good. I found the chicken a bit dry. It was unusual to have the rice and refied beans in a little cast iron pan. It is a nice touch. There were three and covered with cheese and sauce was on the plate that you scoop up instead of being on the enchiladas. Very nice. Another dish was the shrimp fajitas. There was lots of salsa and condiments to make them. The comment was great. Chips and salsa were brought to the table. The chips were not warm but served regularly, the salsa was good but not a lot, they could have added more. The last one had three tacos filled with your choice of meats. Verdict was ok. Dessert was churros with ice cream and caramel sauce. These were more original than others I have had. Certainly not as good as ones from a vendor in Mexico but still good.

I wanted to like this place as I know it's been there a long time. I ordered a birria taco and steak taco. The birria taco in particular was a bit disappointing. Flavor was one dimensional and the dip was not made well. I drank a bit on its own out of curiosity and to confirm my suspicion-- it was just a barely flavored broth/consomme. Patio is nice for the summer sun.

Flour Tortillas & Sides for the Fajitas

Visiting Richmond from the Kitsap Peninsula in WA state, we came here for dinner on our last night to get something other than Asian food. We love Chinese cuisine and came to Richmond to try the outstanding Dim Sum choices (among other reasons). But we needed a break and I'll tell you, it's tough finding decent restaurants with more diverse cuisine in a city that's about 75% Chinese. This restaurant was one of only two Mexican restaurants that we could find. It's in a great location in a small neighborhood and close to the fishing port for Richmond. This tiny place strikes me as half Mexican restaurant and half local sports bar. Service was fine and our food arrived fairly quickly. We were quickly served homemade corn chips and rather non-descript and non-spicy rather bland salsa. We ordered the house Margaritas ($10 each); not bad...and chicken fajitas for two ($29). The fajitas were pretty tasty and served with flour tortillas and sauteed peppers and onions in a not quite hot enough cast iron pan. A selection of sour cream, tomatoes, guacamole and cheese was served on the side. I've had much better fajitas, but these were tasty enough and a great break from Dim Sum. All prices here are Canadian; we actually paid $45 total, including 20% tip.

Best Margaritas ever! If you are craving for made-from-scratch margaritas, this neighbourhood cantina offers a plethora of flavours from mezcal, jalapeno, to piña. They also serve authentic Birria tacos, the most delish chicken wings (according to the boyfie), plus homemade chips and salsa -what are you waiting for, come to this place!! :) A hole in a wall restaurant, this place is a bit of a walk from the busy Steveston pier but has ample free parking. They also have one of my favourite happy hour menus in the lower mainland (2-5pm daily). Service can be a hit or miss but their food pretty much makes up for it (in my opinion). Love this place.

Dont know what the hype is about thus place, but at best, its only average. We stopped by for happy hour to sample and taste after a long bike ride. First stop, the customer service here is almost non-existent....someone in street clothes approached us and asked for how many. No smile or greeting....nothing! We were seated and someone approached and provided menus. When we asked that we wanted the happy hour one, we were met with a "oh, ok, i can get that!" But, its stll happy hour time, the least he could do is present all available menus. Anyhow, orderd a fish taco and a taco birra ( braised beef taco with a au jus dip) for those not familiar. We also sampled the wings combo ( 5 wings plus a glass of wine or beer). Of course i had to order a sleeve to cool down from the heat. First stop, presentation was nice. Thats what earned the 3rd star or else wouldve been a 2 star review. Wings came in a sizzling plate and tossed with a tangy bbq sauce. The tacos came on a wooden board and look really presentable. However, where the presentation was a plus, the taste was a minus. The wings were drowned in too much sauce. No longer crispy. The fish taco was bland and not seasoned well. Instead of a fish tempura approach, they used fresh fish which was watery bec of the juices and ruined the whole taco concept. The beef taco birra was awesome. The beef was braised properly. Tender and moist and juicy. The au jus dip however was a let down. Again, tasteless! A bit more beef seasoning would've enlightened the dish for sure. But at least, food arrived fast and hot. Now heres the part that caught me by surprise...a table next to us ordered the same tacos i did. Turns out, the happy hour portion is 1/2 the size of the regular order. Thats ok i guess, as they took $2 off the price. Ur whats the point of happy hr then. Majority of places use happy hr as an point of sales for future visits. Most places give you the same size at a reduced price. Lol. Moving on, asked for the bill and noticed we were charged a extra combo, we did not order. Told the waitress the issue and she rolled her eyes and said " that was my boss who took your order, and he screws up all the time!" She did apologize and said she'd fix it asap. Lol. I mean, if she thinks her boss is an idiot in-front of customers, just imagine what she thinks of her work when shes alone. Kind lacking in professionalism for me. Would i be back? I might give them another chance. I do see potential. Its in my hood and i do wanna support Local as best as i can. They did provide free chips and salsa. So, they deserve another shot! ;) Cheers! Happy eating!

To be honest, I was a little disappointed with the food. The restaurant currently has 15% off for take-out orders (not sure if it's due to COVID). Had we paid regular price, I would have probably given my review a 2-star. We ordered a number of items so I would think that I had a pretty good judgement of the food. The quesadilla tasted and looked 90% liked the enchilada. If it wasn't for the suiza sauce on the enchilada, I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference. Both of them, filled with chicken, felt pretty dry when I was chewing. Not sure why but I've had very delicious versions before. The tortilla soup was ok but the portion was so small. There wasn't a lot of ingredients in the soup itself. It came with 3 pieces of bread which were all burnt on the underside. We chose 3 grills for our tacos. The grilled meat tasted better than the other entrees but still on the meh side. The beef and the pork weren't tender at all. I also didn't like the tortilla. It was pretty "powdery" in texture when I chewed it. Overall, it was a disappointing meal and I totally regretted ordering that many dishes.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere, location food, and staff. It's located at the edge of Steveston in Richmond, and there's plenty of free parking within walking distance after 6pm. It's by the water too, so it's a great place to walk around after the meal. All the staff were super friendly (shoutout to our server Sam, who was super attentive and efficient, and kept checking in with us). HUGE portions for everything, I definitely ordered way too much as I didn't expect each item to be so generous in size and filling. Comes with free nachos and dip at the beginning of the meal, perfect to nibble on while looking at the menu. My order: Nachos (w/ Birria): CRAZY PORTIONS. I was definitely intimidated when this was served as a starter before our tacos arrived. I added birria for an extra cost, but it's very worth it because they definitely do not cheap out. Cheesy, meaty, just great overall. Their birria is top notch. Birria (Braised Beef): my favourite taco here! It's quite big for a taco, and super loaded with flavourful and juicy/saucy birria. Cheese, cilantro and onions inside too. Very nice texture as the outside is grilled or something, so it is served super hot. It was flavourful enough I didn't even use the consomme dip. Gobernador Tostada (Prawn): tied as my favourite with the Birria. Pretty unique as it is served on a crunchy nacho/tortilla shell. 3 juicy prawns on top (marinated/grilled/flavourful). Comes with grilled onions and peppers too and the chipotle mayo sauce is tasty too. A must have. Chorizo: ground chorizo, tad bit spicy. A bit mushy overall, but the flavours were quite good. Carne (Steak): a little tougher to chew, but it's super loaded with steak. Generous portions. Carnitas (Mexican Pork): tad bit dry, one of my least favourite, but lots of meat. Strawberry Tequila Sunrise (Peach Schnapps, strawberry purée, orange juice, grenadine): super strong drink that definitely packs a punch. Individual fruit flavours are quite subtle, and sort of blends together nicely. Beautiful gradient/ombre from a visual aspect too.

Went here for dine-out and really enjoyed the experience. The food was hot and the ingredients taste fresh. The wings tasted so good. The enchiladas also were very good. The service could have been better, but otherwise the experience was great.

    Prawn fajitas

We've gone to Little Cantina a few times and it's always a great experience. The place has a good ambiance, a Mexican restaurant with a good bar :-). I like the decor, nice that one wall is all windows and the patio is a bonus, especially on a nice summer evening. The food tastes and looks authentic. Oh, don't let me forget to mention their very own made tortilla chips, made right there. Crispy, crunchy, delicious, especially with the sour creme and again, in-house made guacamole and salsa. Once I shared prawn fajitas and next time ... I didn't share, those were sooo delicious !! You make them yourself the way you like it, with all the ingredients on the side. Well, and now it's time for beer and margaritas. Great selection of beer, form tap to domestic to imports. And don't miss the "Steveston" margarita, we actually ordered the whole pitcher ! So to close, you could have a really fun and tasty meal there. It is not fast food as someone labelled it and yes, it costs more than fast food. Pick a night, bring a date and enjoy !!

This place is a gem and very energetic during the dinner hour. We loved how our food was served sizzling hot and quick. The 3 mix-and-match tacos for $18 deal are small in portion but surprisingly filling. The servers were polite throughout our dining experience. I will definitely come here again and bring some acquaintances because one visit is not enough! Great job!

Was so happy this place was opened. I remember not ever visiting the old Mexican restaurant that used to be here and regretting it when it closed its doors for good. But this place is now here and my wife and I jumped at the opportunity! We ordered 6 tacos and a seafood stew. Everything was super delicious. Tacos I ordered: Carne Carnitas Beef Chicken Shrimp Chorizo I also had a mango Jarrito soft drink and it was superb as well. We also got a free plate of chips and salsa upon sitting down, it was a nice treat! Muy delicioso !!

It was mentioned to me that over the last several years, there has been an increase in migrant workers and this is go to taqueria. I thought I had to try it. It must be good! Finally, this past Saturday was the day. We went in as a group of three and a baby. We were quickly greeted and provided a menu. The taqueria is clean and airy with a decent sized dining area. We ordered a chicken Tinga burrito, quesabirria tacos with consume, two fish tacos, a carnitas taco and a horchata. The order took a lil time to make but was all packed really well. Everything was amazing! The tacos all had great flavor. The red salsa had an amazing kick! And tje horchata was very tasty. One of the Better horchatas I've had. The food is up there! You can check out my pics! Everything was great and I am excited as this place grows in Ladner and hopefully more people find out. My only suggestions are to please add a salsa bar. It would be nice to pour your own chips, salsa, and peppers. I'm used to that in California. Also, some of the tacos were really hot and the to go containers can Make some of the items soggy. But if you eat at the taqueria this is not a problem. All in all Excellent experience and we will definitely be back!
