The family that owns this wonderful tiki bars has put some serious work into adorning the place with amazing tiki decor. And this has to have taken YEARS to do. The outside of the building does not say, "Hey!! I'm an awesome tiki bars!!" But step inside and you are transported to tiki land extraordinaire. And then there is the staff there. They are so friendly, attentive, and helpful, and just very authentic and genuine. I CANNOT WAIT to return to Kahala Koa Tiki Bar the next time I'm in the Chicago area. The place totally rocks!!

Bigger than the average bar. It's located next to Poplar Creek Bowling and there's a passageway between these. There's supposed to be no alcohol consumption over by the lanes but whatever. Has lots of great specials going on. It's got U Call It at happy hour, which is basically like choosing whatever liquor one wants. Has a few more great specials on food. It's $5 to get Pretzel Bites at happy hour. The rest of the menu has nachos and other things. Also they can host banquets. They have catering if having large groups or parties. DO NOT GO HERE. I bought a Restaurant.com and went here last night. The waitress said I couldn't use the certificate because it was Cinco De Mayo. No mention of this on the site or certificate. When I politely said it was mentioned, the waitress said they had a special menu and it says specials aren't included. OK, that makes a little sense. She then said, "we can accept it but it can only be for $15 not 25." I understand not being able to use it on a special menu but if we pay normal prices how can you arbitrarily decide to cut the value of what I have??? Btw, it was 8:30 and the restaurant was half full. There wwas no one waiting to be seated. read more

I will NEVER, EVER eat there again, and neither should you after seeing a skinny, tall guy with shaved head dumping greasewater outside against the back fence and ground, 2x tonight at 8:00 P.M. Just a few months ago I saw a lady dumping greasewater down the street drain in the parking lot. This is against the Health Department and a violation of the environment, They have to have a greasetrap inside or outside. NEVER EAT THERE read more

This place is phenomenal. Flávio is charming, courteous, and adorable. It's tony, minimally decorated, and charming. When we walked in, we knew we had found one of those special secret gems; and we weren't wrong. Do yourself a favor and get the Al Pastor anything and enjoy. It is fruity, sweet, and also makes for a good take home cocktail mixer! Now not everything is on point. Some of the menu items are hit and miss. The ceviche is trash. Looks and tastes like it came out of a can. The worse thing I have had from the menu. I don't know who checked off on this item but it should be removed immediately. The enchilada bowl wasn't the best and was served lukewarm. I enjoyed my burrito but it could have been a little warmer. The nachos were filling and the only thing I would want to add is a little more zest and flavor to the cheese sauce. I love coming to taco lama despite the misses and I know what to stay away from.
