There were 7 of us partaking in a golf trip and this happened to be Taco Tuesday. One of the guys was familiar with the Fresh Fields area and suggested Cantina 76. We arrived and were seated quickly as we were there in off-season and it wasn't too crowded. Our waitress was very friendly and slightly sassy, but did a great job providing suggestions and bringing us beers. I ordered the Buffalo Blue Shrimp as well as pulled pork tacos which were pretty good. Parking is whereever you can find a spot in the area. There was plenty of parking, but we ended up in a lot about 100 yards away which seemed longer when walking in the rain. We visited during the weekend of the Kiawah Marathon, so the restaurant was understandably very busy and we fully expected a wait for a table. After waiting for some time, we were able to find seats at the bar. Unfortunately, we had to help ourselves to menus, and when service finally came, we weren't given the opportunity to place our full order. It took a while, and we were never able to order all of our drinks and entrées. The margaritas were mediocre, and unfortunately the tacos were as well. This is one of the better restaurant options at Freshfields! I've dined here twice, and on our most recent trip, the food was decent and the service was fast. Our group of four wandered in on a Saturday night, and we were surprised to find no wait for a table! All of the TV's were tuned into different college football games, and it seemed that several of the other patrons were there for that very reason. Unlike many Mexican restaurants, chips and salsa are not complimentary. We ordered the "Tres Hombres" Sampler, which is $15 for salsa, guac, and queso. The queso is served warm, and had a nice consistency for dipping. I ordered a Chimichanga, and it hit the table less than 10 minutes after we ordered! It was piping hot, and topped with more queso. The chicken and beans inside had a nice texture, and it was served on top of Mexican rice. It wasn't the best chimi I've ever had, but it hit the spot on a cold night and that's really all I could ask for. I'm sure we'll be back the next time we're staying on Seabrook Island! read more

Even after we placed drink orders, we still had to explicitly request water which then took another 10 minutes. The food was a solid 1/5 imo. First we had to order chips and salsa (but every authentic Mexican restaurant I've ever been to always brings chips and salsa for free). I don't mind paying $5 for it if it tasted good. The chips were thin and stale and seems store bought and not even the good kind. Next, we ordered various tacos and I failed to take a picture of the food, but they were probably the saddest tacos I've ever seen. And definitely not authentic Mexican. I ordered shrimp tacos and fish tacos. Both were horrible. Just a couple small pieces of fried seafood thrown into a flour tortilla and no slaw, no pico, no cilantro. Waitress not at fault. The chips were bland, the queso meh, would you like any avocado at all with the mostly onions meant to be guacamole? But they were all we had while we waited 75 minutes for our food. When they finally did arrive the tacos were below average with grocery store bought tortillas, no flavor since there was no seasoning on the beef, and downright yuck on the fried chicken. My sister got ground beef tacos and found the meat to be chewy yet had hard bone-like particles in it (most likely bone). She couldn't eat/finish them. Awesome tacos! We really enjoyed our meal here. All the tacos we ordered were delicious. I love that the have a variety of flavors (and not all Mexican flavors). It was nice to not have to order three of the same flavor and be able to mix and match them. The gluten free options were clearly marked and they had corn tortillas. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the Strawberry Basil Margarita which was extremely tart and unpleasant. Everything else was great however and the staff were attentive and friendly. *Review was a 4 star until recently as food quality/portions seem to have declined a bit* I love this location - however, feel the quality of food and portion sizes could improve dramatically. The size of the tacos are very, very small as it relates to actual contents of what's filling them up. Fortunately the time we went when these photos were taken, they were a little more full than normal - but most times the tacos will not be "big and full" tacos. The sampler is always a staple, and I like to add the habanero purée to the red salsa (and on top of my tacos.) We really enjoy sitting outside at this location if weather permits. Great to enjoy the weather or people watch! As for service - nothing to complain about or write home about. Consistently good service, with no bad experiences thus far. We stopped in for dinner on our first night in Kiawah--admittedly because there was no wait--and were so impressed that we came back for lunch a few days later. Both times, we were served by Blake, who was absolutely fantastic: attentive, warm, and a true Southern gentleman. The hostess was equally gracious, letting us choose a table outside during our second visit. The menu here is simpler than what you might expect from a Mexican-style restaurant, but that actually works in its favor. It's focused, approachable, and everything we tried was spot-on. Between the two visits, we sampled around ten different tacos, and each one was excellent. The Peruvian taco--with its perfectly cooked, tender fried shrimp--was a standout. We also tried three margaritas (because, research) and each was delicious, especially The Divine, which absolutely lived up to its name. Prices are very reasonable, especially given the quality and portion sizes. If I had to nitpick, the steak in the surf 'n turf taco was a touch salty for my taste--but even that didn't detract from an otherwise outstanding experience. At the time of writing, I noticed many recent reviews of three stars or less. Maybe there were some recent changes in management, kitchen, or service, but our experience was nothing short of excellent. If you're in the area, don't let the low-star reviews deter you--Cantina 76 is absolutely worth a visit. read more

A consistent disappointment. Poor service. Very spotty food. stale chips. Skimpy tacos. The real shame is that with a little effort (pro tips: servers shouldn't bicker in front of the customer; warming those chips brings them to life; doughy tortillas heated in a skillet disguises the fact that they're bagged; eye contact from the bartender makes customers more patient, etc.) the experience could be so much better. However, it's plain to us that the staff at Cantina isn't willing to make the effort. We won't be back. read more

Decent vibes - we took our 2 small kids for an early dinner. Waitress forgot our chips and salsa until we asked again. Expensive beers ($7 for imports). We tried the blackened shrimp, surf & turf and roasted chicken tacos. The roasted chicken was the best. Would not recommend the surf & turf taco. Super salty. We had a great visit and service during our visit. Our server was sweet, down to earth and attentive, the hostess was likewise a delightful human being. We went later in the evening so we did not have much of a wait and we're delighted to find street parking right by the restaurant. Admittedly as a lover of tacos, the extensive variety was almost overwhelming but the 3 I selected (BBQ, chicken pesto & a traditional) were amazing and I look forward to doing back and trying more. Food isn't the best but also, isn't the worst. Server was rude and we felt more like an inconvenience than anything else. This place was dead. The wood on the walls is literally peeling off. Wanted to love this place since our vacation had been amazing so far. Unfortunately, the waitress we had treated us more like an inconvenience than anything else. She put the order in wrong, no biggie at all, but then seemed annoyed that we weren't going to keep the plate that "touched the table".
