Carne Burrito, tacos, street corn

Great little stop. We enjoyed our asado tacos, a shrimp taco, street corn, and a steak burrito. The owner was fun, and said he had been there 10 years. He had reasonable prices. it is cash only

Gallina Loca is a hidden gem on Johns Island, just off of Maybank Highway. This place has outstanding, affordable food and the owner is always very friendly. Where else can you get tacos for $3. Everything on the menu is excellent. I grab burritos and quesadillas from this food truck weekly. I usually go with chicken or pork for the meat. This is a cash business so remember to stop at the bank machine. I would recommend this place.

I will be DREAMING of this watermelon margarita forever. Truly the best marg I've ever had. The…read moreserver and bartender were even nice enough to tell us fresh squeezed watermelon simple syrup is the secret! The salsa sampler was a generous size with the salsa verde being my favorite because of its freshness. The queso was on the thin side but flavorful and the street corn was delicious. The famous cheese crusted burrito was yummy, though didn't completely blow me out of the water like the marg did - could have maybe used some more seasoning overall. The portion however was gigantic and more than enough for 2 to split. The patio is such a fun and bright area with TVs and music. Definitely worth a trip!

Google maps sent me to a side corner where I saw cars parked on dirt so I parked there as well…read moresince it was late night and I couldn't really see but Minero actually has a normal parking lot right next to the restaurant. The restaurant itself is very cute and would be a perfect place for a date or a fancier mexican restaurant. Although, it felt like more like an American styled restaurant with Mexican food. The servers were extremely sweet but they did not have a good habit of checking our drinks which I would expect from a restaurant in Charleston. They were able to check on my food preferences and were able to adjust the food accordingly. I enjoyed the dips but at the same time usually the chips and dips are free at the Mexican restaurants in charleston. I did order the tres amigo which gave guacamole, salsa and queso which I would not expect for free except for the salsa. The main dish I had I did not enjoy but it was my fault for choosing a Mexican styled hamburger. The meat was a bit too chewy and although it had flavor I was unable to balance it out even with the fries they gave me. The fries were okay although a bit too salty for my taste. I had to wash it down with soda and luckily they were able to refill my drink. I also tried the chicken burrito bowl and I wasn't really a fan of how the chicken tasted. The best part of the meal was the banana pudding tres leches cake. It melted in my mouth and it was one of the better tres leches cakes I've had. I think next time I should definitely try the fajitas or tacos to give a more fair review but at the same time the menu should have everything the restaurant is proud of. Overall, it was a bit more expensive than a normal mexican restaurant but the value was mainly placed into the setting and vibes. If I had to choose a place just for Mexican food I would stick to the local Mexican restaurants, but I would have to say the tres leches is one of the better cakes I've had in the charleston area.

It's not my favorite type of Mexican restaurant, as it's a little more upscale than I *personally* prefer, but if upscale Mexican is your vibe, then this'll be the perfect restaurant for you! They had an alright selection of beers, to include a couple of IPAs, but my friends and I didn't really enjoy their cocktails. They were expensive, but lacking in much flavor or zest. Besides looking cool, the taste didn't really match the aesthetic. Furthermore, the food was solid, but not that much better than your basic Mexican restaurant. As for the service, our waiter was nice enough, but he always seemed to be in a hurry, and was walking away while we were still trying to give our order. All-in-all, I'm probably making Matador sound worse than it was, but it was merely a slightly above-average Mexican experience, not a transcendental dining experience that I'll never forget. I'll give it 3/5 stars, and would recommend it based on your personal preference.

The host was a guy with a pad and pencil, and he was getting it DONE! We were seated after about 10 minutes, which is seriously impressive for the amount of people there. We got a margarita pitcher which is perfect for a group of 3-4 people. We got about a margarita and a half each out of it. And they were everything you could want in a margarita. I usually get a few steak tacos, but the quesadilla caught my eye on the à la carte menu, because it was chorizo. I got 2 steak tacos and the chorizo quesadilla, and they were fabulous. We had a great time vibing to the music and when we were driving home I thought, that meal was so satisfying. :)

Prices are affordable for all budgets (yep even if you're tight!). The tacos (flour and corn) are fantastic. I recommend their margaritas as well. There is plenty of seating indoors and out. There are limited bar seats indoor and out as well.
