DISAPPOINTED This place came highly recommended by several people. When we got here, it took 45 minutes just to get drinks. Then when we received them, they were not what we had expected. And the quesadilla was burnt. Just was not pleased.

This place is consistent. I don't think the food is exceptional or anything but the drinks are good and they have a huge space both indoor and outdoor. I hate that they don't do a lot of specials for things like national margarita day or cinco but they advertise to come in.

Bohemian island feel with unique taco combos. Everyone on the table loved what they ate .. tacos, guacamole, rice bowl, hot dog. I lived the crispy avocado taco even if the fillings were a little skimpy. The service was friendly.

We loved the guacamole & chips (delicious and too many-you should probably share if you're not sure), and the tacos were yum! The ambience was the best-super cute & great service, too!

came in for chips and tacos and a nice drink. bartender was alone, and swamped. had a continuous stream of tickets for the well, and basically a full bar the entire time we dined. management finally decided to come help behind the bar, but left a set of dishes from a previous customer on the bar. a new couple came in and sat at the pile of dishes (the only seats left at the bar) for over five minutes while these two never came over to greet or clean. the bartender was kind and stressed. very professional. i've never seen management neglect customer or staff like this in person. honestly, it's the 250th anniversary of the fucking country. leaving ONE bartender to fend for themselves on Any night this week shows weakness in planning, strategy, and professionalism. disappointed as fuck.

Had mixed feelings about taco boy. I really liked their decor, and service was super friendly. The food didn't wow me, but it wasn't particularly bad either. Just somewhere in the middle, average. There were a few misses though, like being brought the wrong taco, or them not being made with the right tortilla. Additionally, the margarita pitcher not really having 6 drinks as advertised (closer to 5). The hot sauce was good, had a nice heat that built and then persisted through the end of the meal. Overall would give 3 stars for a fairly average experience.

Taco Boy is a large indoor-outdoor restaurant close to the beach. It can accommodate a large party, though you may have a wait. While the live music and general ambiance is nice, the service was very slow and the food sub-par. The chips and dips were tasty, but the tacos are generally very small, dry, and have little protein. The side of black beans we all received tasted burnt and unpleasant. Staff was very nice and accommodating to our group and we loved the live music, but the food was so-so.

Lots of vegetarian options. The taco salad with vegetarian chorizo was delicious. Also the street corn was excellent. Beautiful outdoor environment.

This taco boy is huge compared to the one downtown. Our bartender Colin was so friendly and down to earth. We got a couple margarita and a small snack - their trio chip dip hit the spot with salsa, queso and house-made guacamole! We sat at the main bar downstairs and it was a nice atmosphere. A bit pricy but expected since you're right on folly beach but it's a good vibe.

Love that this place is close tot he beach. They have multiple bars. Rooftop was closed during the day on a Friday but sat at the bar instead. The bartender was great and conversational. The chips and guac were just average, as well as the margaritas. The tacos were delicious. I tried a crispy avocado and firecracker shrimp taco which were both delicious. I would definitely come back for a quick bite off the beach but would likely just stick to tacos.

Carnitas, kimchi, shrimp & pulled pork on corn with a pitcher of Cadillac margarita. Chips & salsa appetizer.

Was there Sunday afternoon/ early evening for a snack. I always have to get my taco boy fix when on folly. We sat at the bar downstairs because the upstairs bar was closed & the seating outside is super tiny. It can hold maybe 15 people facing the ocean & all chairs were taken. There was a dj spinning tunes on the lower deck, which was nice, however, the music was way too loud! The bar tender had a hard time understanding what my boyfriend & I were saying & vice versa. The food was good as usual but the kimchi was a little spicier than I remembered. I never thought I'd say this, but the margarita was too big for us two Maybe if we were there just for drinks we could have finished it but we were pretty full from the food.

The crowds were behaving themselves, the breeze was cooperative, and the smiles behind the bar were as steady as the tide. Service? Quick. Attitude? Cheerful. Decor? Pure beach--with just enough kitsch to remind you that you're exactly where you're supposed to be. I especially loved the AI-generated "Old Folly Beach" photos. They had that sepia-toned, barefoot-in-the-sand charm that makes you nostalgic for a time you probably never lived through. Clever. Fun. Conversation starters. The food came out hot and well prepared--no excuses, no shortcuts, no "it's beach food, what did you expect?" nonsense. Just solid plates done right. Sometimes the best meals aren't about linen napkins or complicated sauces. Sometimes it's quick service, honest cooking, a few laughs, and the Atlantic doing background vocals.

The bar opened at 10am. Ordered drinks... our bar drinks arrived just before our food did. No, not very busy at this time of morning. We sat outside before the heat of the day forced us all inside. 2 other tables, one leaving moments after we arrived. The view was amazing though. My eggs were ordered as over medium- they were fried hard. I like a little seepage of yolk. No rock solid, but the wait... I was afraid to send my order back.

The menu looked innovative and delicious. It's very much like a Chipotle or Moe's in that you can custom build your order but they also have standard dishes. It was a little confusing on how to do an order so I decided to just go for the standard dish of a chicken Caesar. It was advertised as blackened chicken with lettuce, cheese, tomato.and black beans. You could choose plain white Mexican rice or a quino with a free black beans & peppers mixed in as a base. I ordered it as a bowl thinking it might be sort of like a salad or like a taco salad. I asked for more lettuce than quinoa. What I got was about even amounts, but even then the lettuce was in one little pile on the side of the plate. To me it should have been the base. Put the Quinoa on the bottom and then cover it with lettuce when you're doing a bowl. That's how Chipotle does it and Moe's. They build their bowls very similar to the bowls you get at a grocery store that has small amounts of different ingredients around the bowl, but then you're supposed to mix up to make your salad or not depending on your preference. This had about as much tomatoes and black beans as lettuce. For some reason they needed to make the chicken in the back. Since I was expecting blackened chicken I thought it was just getting it from the back since they had a different kind of chicken up front on the buffet. What I got instead was a complete surprise because it was just plain ass fried chunks of chicken. Absolutely no flavor and dry and chewy. I think it must have been thier older already cooked chicken that they decided to recook fried in a batter. It made no sense. As I was waiting and telling the girl what to put on my salad and asking for more lettuce, she globbed a giant scoop of dressing on that was as much or more than any other ingredient. I don't even know what she was thinking... she even looked at me like I wanted another scoop....had I had any idea she was going to 1/4 cup of dressing on top of the little bit of lettuce, I would have stopped that shit right off. Turned it did help with dry chewy bland chicken to swoop a glob of ranch dressing to go with it. But when it came to trying to eat the rest of the stuff it just became a blob of white white dressing with a little bit of lettuce and beans and a this or a that mixed in. I rarely throw away black beans and any form of protein but simply couldn't finish it and it's really quite amazing for me to actually say this since I try to elevate people and thwir small businesses. The place is clean and neat and everybody was very nice with their service. It was just our first time being there. We didn't really know what to order or how to order it effectively. Most of the ingredients on their buffet look like they've been sitting there for a while. It was empty so it might have been a restock after the lunch crowd. Husband got the beef burrito because the chicken that was out look like it had been heated up for a, and the beef was in a bit of aujus. He didn't get the black beans because the black beans were completely filled up with liquid, served with a slotted spoon and he thought of they didn't properly drain them or since they weren't just beans they were more of a soup that would make his burrito to to soggy so he opted not... And he said it was pretty good anyhow.

Had a slight kick to it (spice wise) but very little evidence of actual seafood in it. After much debate about what to get for a main course (and after seeing what other patrons got at the bar where I sat), I decided to get the Moroccan salad with salmon. Again...it was good...not great. I cook way better salmon at home on a cedar plank over real charcoal, so maybe I'm being unfair here? I dunno. The salad itself was heavy on arugula, which I'm not a huge fan of. Which is odd, because I love the flavor of pepper! Anyway, the menu made it sound like it was more fennel-oriented, so... Ended up capping off the meal with the blackberry key lime pie. It was quite tasty. Not the best key lime pie I've ever had, but good. As to the atmosphere, it's nice. My girlfriend has actually convinced me several times that we shouldn't come here because we weren't dressed well enough. Well, let me just say: I saw several guys here wearing jeans, fishing shirts, and ball caps and they fit right in. So: not stuffy at all! Bottom line, it's a good, not great place to grab a meal. I love that it's off the beaten path (i.e., not close to Folly Road). Will def come back with my girlfriend next time. Might try the swordfish or maybe the meatballs next time.
