Very disappointed. I reserved three lobsters three days before Father's Day and provided my name, phone number, and pickup time. I was assured the reservation was noted and my lobsters would be held. When I arrived, I was told they had sold out and my reserved lobsters were not available. The young man behind the counter was surprisingly flippant and showed little concern for the inconvenience caused. Because my reservation was not honored, I had to drive an additional hour and spend about $40 more to purchase comparable lobsters from another vendor. placed an order in person followed up by an email and two phone calls including day of. Went to pick up our order for steamed lobsters for our family July 4th celebration. When I arrived to pick up the order they did not have it and said they could not steam them. So much for trying to support a local business. We won't be back. read more

This is my first experience here after hearing lots of good reviews of this place. I purchased lobster which was sweet and delicious and at a very competitive price. I also got some steamers which needed a bit more purging than other places I frequent but were still fantastic. The young lady who waited on us was adequate, but seemed to care less that we were there. Basically, an excellent product at a good price. The service could use a little attention though. read more

We've bought fish here a couple of times and it was good quality. They sold my wife two pieces of salmon today that I would say is not safe for anyone to eat and I'm not even comfortable cooking it for my dog. I was a chef for almost two decades in Portland and I know fish. This was either reckless because they aren't keeping track of what they have in the case or greedy because they will sell anything instead of eating the cost that comes with selling seafood. read more

Ordered two years in a row for a birthday bash and both times the lobsters never made it. After filing a complaint...the owner is now harassing my family. Order ANYWHERE ELSE. This guy is a nightmare. Not only will they mess up your order and ruin your event...when you have an issue with that you get harassed. read more

I've gotten seafood at Cantrell's in Topsham a few times now. I've never had a bad experience. On Saturday I shopped around for lobsters and Cantrell's had the best price at $7.99/lb so I stopped in and got a half dozen chicks, while there I saw that they had fresh haddock at $9.99/lb, so I asked the nice girl for a fillet. She was very attentive. I liked that she drained the lobsters before putting them on the scale and then she picked out a nice thick fillet of haddock for me. I brought everything home and the lobsters were fresh and full of that sweet soft shell goodness. I broiled the haddock the next night and it came out fantastic, just a great fresh slice of heaven. I am very grateful for Cantrell's. When the young man has waited on me in the past he was attentive and knowledgeable and the young women was the same, very nice and helpful. I do live in the area so I see activity around the seafood market and the fishermen always seem pleasant dropping off their catch, the service is great and the selection is pretty good as well. The prices are decent but certain things can fluctuate, like the crabmeat is at $19.99 where you might find it for a buck or two less if you shop around, but where I've seen lobster meat at $65/lb, Cantrells has it around $55/lb so as a general rule the prices are quite competitive and you can't beat the freshness of the seafood. I will say that I have never been disappointed by anything that I have purchased at Cantrell Seafood and they are my first place to check out. Really good selection for lobster. It is a little hidden to get there but such a good drive. Sweet lobster meat on a cold rainy day was a great choice. It is a little smaller for a market but it has all the stuff you'll need for a nice dinner. read more

Unfortunately. I cant give the actual store any rating, they don't even deserve one star. The trucks are awesome, but unfortunately are not in my area anymore so we went to the physical store on Saturday. Going by what they're weekly add said they had on sale I had a few things I wanted and guess what none of them were available. The staff was horrible, I mean really, really bad. Absolutely no customer service, they don't help you and wont even really communicate with you. Before you think I am one of those people who bitch about anything know this...this is the very first time (I'm 62) in my life I have ever written a bad review about anything. I have never experienced such horrible service, ever, anywhere in my life. So I wasted an hour round trip to go there and not get one thing that was supposedly in stock and be treated like that. I just polished off a 3 pound batch and they were some of the best I've ever had....sweet and no grit...and they were only $1.99 lb. While I can find better prices (sometimes), or more selection (sometimes), this business is conveniently located, their products are fresh, and the service is excellent. My family has been purchasing hard shell lobsters for pick up at the Oxford Maine location for many, many years. We call the office number to place an order, a few days prior. There have been quite a few instances where the driver did not have our order, blaming it on the office not "putting it on the board". We arrive at the truck first thing so that if this happens, we can be first served and hopefully get the hard shell lobsters we wanted. This happened again this weekend however, even at the start of the day, there were no hard shell lobsters to be had. After verifying with the office that the order was "on the board", the office apologized and offered to give a couple extra soft shell lobsters to compensate. However, when I approached the driver he was verbally abusive (swearing at me)! He denied my order being taken and very begrudgingly gave the extra lobsters. After that treatment I will NOT be using Cantrell Seafood again. read more
