I've ordered from Hancock Gourmet Lobster a couple times... most recently the Lobster Corn Chowder (this order arrived on time) and an 18 pack of the Mini Lobster Grilled Cheeses (an order which was delivered late). The mini grilled cheeses were prepared as expected and packaged well... but the plastic packaging of the lobster corn chowder wasn't as easy to deal with and too much of the chowder got stuck in nooks and crannies of the plastic pack, making it quite messy to deal with. There's GOT to be a better way to ship chowder product. Besides the issues with the packaging for the chowder, I found the chowder itself to be runnier than expected - and also contain less than expected of both the corn and lobster components. Given the cost of purchase for this chowder ($48), I was expecting much more. I love a good treat while I'm continuing to work from home during this pandemic, but I'm not in a rush to order from Hancock Gourmet Lobster again. There are plenty of other places I can order lobster-related deliciousness from. read more

I ordered the LOBSTER MAC & CHEESE via GOLDBELLY as a special treat for my husband and I for a Friendsgiving event this year. Since we couldn't get together with friends in person, we wanted to treat ourselves to some extra tasty food. We live in the Bay Area, CA and had successful Goldbelly deliveries of other items from the East Coast. We were excited to try another lobster eatery in Maine. We scheduled our order about 2 weeks ahead of time with no issue. At that time Goldbelly had a $20 off coupon so we wanted to take advantage of that deal as well. At first I was nervous when I saw the shipment go out two days ahead of our delivery date instead of overnight shipping. However, upon arrival the food seemed to remain cold and frozen due to the ample ice packs in the box. We were planning on eat things the next day so we did not have to worry about putting the box in the freezer, we just kept things in the fridge to thaw overnight. The instructions were easy to follow on the label of the box. However, I did have to transfer the mac & cheese into my own bake dish because a few pieces of the original box broke off in transit (I think the ice packs kept chipping away the box edges). The original box also seemed to be made of plastic and I was hesitant to put that into the oven. Nevertheless the mac & cheese baked beautifully and was delicious! We were impressed by the ample lobster chunks provided. The meat stayed tender even after baking. The cheese was rich and gooey and didn't feel overly heavy. I think portion-wise it was a bit pricey, but I'd still order again for a special occasion. I hope they improve on their packaging soon. read more

Ordered the Maine Shore Dinner for 2 from Goldbelly. Goldbelly did a great job delivering. They can't help what's inside. This was for our anniversary dinner. We prepared everything per directions. The little bit of meat in the lobster was decent, the scallops were salvaged by searing them in butter, the shrimp was OK, a little soggy like the corn (couldn't eat...we make corn a lot and usually make it on the BBQ). The mussels were tasteless. As for the chowder, we're big fans of Boston Sail Loft...true chowder (wouldn't be delivered on time so we took a chance...Ooops!). This soup was a poor excuse...thin (runny) a few bits of chopped clam and very bland. No where near what I expect of a chowder. Wasn't worth eating high calorie broth. Other than that, the packaging was great! This was a total miss, based our order on the reviews. read more

Got a package of Lobster risotto on a seashell, two servings, via the goldbelly service. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. The substance of the risotto was much too gooey, way way way too much butter, and overall just too rich. It wasn't clear whether or not there was actually any Lobster in the dish. But mainly when you bite into the dish one mainly tastes butter. I ended up mixing it with some leftover fish I had in order to make the dish more palatable. read more

I love seafood. And this was the best Mother's Day gift I have ever received. I was a little worried because it seemed impossible that a simple heavy foil bag on a grill for 40 minutes would be this good. It did not disappoint at all. It was a dinner for 4 and my husband and I consumed the entire thing. If you eat seafood, you know that eating 25 mussels isn't a lot, however the taste was spectacular. So if it were for 4 people they would need maybe a salad and garlic bread to complete meal. It's the first excellent meal I didn't plan, shop, pay or cook for since I left my moms house. Hancock Gourmet Lobster was just amazing!! We received the lobster tails, lobster mac and cheese, and the lobster rolls as a gift! And then the feasting began (lol). Every item was perfectly prepared with simple, easy to understand directions on how to serve each item. The tails were succulent, not rubbery, and just delicious (and of course we doused them in a tub of butter). At the same meal we also ate the lobster mac and cheese. It was to die for! I followed the directions to cook it in the oven and it turned out perfect. Large chunks (and a lot of them!) of lobster swimming in a delicious cheese sauce. The pasta was perfectly cooked (not mushy) and the cheese sauce was creamy and mild enough that it did not overwhelm the lobster. The next day we had the lobster rolls. Large flavorful pieces of lobster that came with the actual rolls! I toasted the rolls and just put the lobster in the rolls (nothing else was needed or necessary). There was enough mac and cheese left for a second meal. So the amount of food worked out perfect. The package arrived at just the right time to allow for it to be prepared for dinner. It was well packaged, but not over done with unnecessary wrappings. All in all it was one of the best lobster dinners we have ever had. My first order with this company was not so stellar. I struggle to get a food gift for the holidays that my elderly family members would enjoy I had ordered the lobster pot pies as a change from the holiday ham or steaks. Excited to try something different! Lucky for me my relatives don't "beat around the bush" when it comes to reviewing their gift They said that the presentation of the pies were pretty, but the pies are actually filled with water consume and a tablespoon of lobster. To be honest everything looked fantastic I was about to indulge in a pricey shopping spree when I thought "I should try those first! SO GLAD I did. First $66 dollars for two pot pies? Okay a gourmet pot pie from Maine how can you lose? After shipping it came to $89.75! When it arrived I kind of just stared into the box, I quickly grabbed my iPad to review the website to see if I accidentally ordered the appetizer portion but alas no it definitely said ENTREE, but picture a pot pie in a creme brûlée cup. I would say about a half a cup of ingredients in a pastry shell, four bites and it was gone (that's about $10.00 per bite) they claim 7oz on their site.....I mean it takes me a while to eat a 6oz filet and we were literally finished in four bites (I have exquisite table manners haha I don't shove half of it in my mouth) was it fresh? YES, was it homemade YES did it taste good YES. Do you know how many large crab cakes I can order at Mastro's for $90 dollars? I'll forgo the pastry shell and lobster insignia on top. read more

Received an order from Hancock's as a gift. It was delivered overnight and arrived in a styrofoam cooler with multiple gel ice packs - it definitely stayed cold. It was a one pound container sealed so tight I grew impatient trying to get it open and wound up using scissors to get the top off. There was also a box of 6 split-top rolls - with flat sides - the best kind of roll! There were huge chunks of delicious meat and multiple, multiple claws - it had a hint of mayo so that the lobster was the starring flavor.. Being that the holidays are upon us I shared with my parents and my sister and still had enough left over for a roll the second day. There was technically enough for all six rolls but since it was day two.... I have no idea how much it cost but I am sure it is not cheap so this would be more of a special occasion order say for celebrating your birthday - hint, hint. read more

I have sent people different things from Hancock the last two years at Christmas and both times everything was surprisingly great. The price is steep but if you shop early enough they are on Living Social and they do have coupon codes that can take off almost the whole cost of shipping. Everything was shipped in dry ice when I asked for it and it was well packaged which is important when shipping anything during the holiday season with those knuckle-draggers at UPS. Overall Hancock to me is a winner because they deliver exactly what they advertise. read more

I have received 2 gifts from this company and have not been overly impressed with either one. My first gift was the lobster rolls. They were ok but I questioned if all the meat in the mixture was all lobster. It was rubbery and did not have a great flavor. Was also not impressed with the rolls or the flavoring of the "salad" mixture. Tonight I made my lobster pot pie. It was a 2 pack and I could not believe how small the pot pies are! Plus, I followed the directions for preparing one of these and it burned the top of my pot pie. As a Home Economist I thought they were asking for this to be heated at too high of a temperature and I was right. The sauce is more like a broth of a soup, not a thick type of sauce that you find in a pot pie so it makes the pot pie soggy. It is like eating soup in a pot pie crust. There are plenty of big chunks of lobster in the pot pie. Both dishes were extremely pricy for the quantity of food that you receive. I would NEVER pay for these! Definitely not worth it! Did Hancock get purchased by another company? I don't know, but this isn't the company I've treasured for over a decade. The experience I just had on the phone with them will make it unlikely that I will continue ordering from them or recommending them, as I have been for years. There is just no way this woman is associated with the original Hancock group. I don't know who Goldbelly is as this is the first year that has come up when I ordered, but I am sad to say that it seems to be one of those wonderful treasures that has been ruined by whomever took it over. I ordered from here one time and it was a great experience!! I only got the lobster grilled cheese appetizer with hatch chili's... my god SO GOOD!!! & easy to make witch is a plus. Definitely expensive but I found it to be good quality. I got 12 mini lobster melts and it cost me about $85 (shipping included) I tried to order again for my boyfriends birthday but they discontinued the hatch chili melts so I was going to order the original but shipping was MORE than the appetizer that starts at $62 wish they were a bit more affordable but over all I had a good experience! read more

I ordered several frozen lobster items from this business via Goldbelly in September during a BOGO promotion. It was my first experience ordering from Hancock, and my second with Goldbelly. I paid for two-day shipping, but for unexplained reasons, it took three days to arrive. By the time the shipment got to me late on the third day, several of the items had partially thawed. I contacted Goldbelly to ask for a refund credit, my rationale being that the quality and perhaps also the safety of the food would have been affected by thawing and re-freezing (we had no plans to eat this food the day it arrived). I provided citations to several scientific studies and guidance from national trade organizations (such as the National Fisheries Institute) that were very clear in stating what really should be considered obvious: thawing and re-freezing seafood is detrimental to its quality. One trade organization website specifically said that if you order frozen seafood and it isn't frozen when it arrives, you should contact the vendor for a refund. I first contacted Goldbelly, and they put the blame on FedEx, but nevertheless refunded my shipping charges. However, they would not refund any of the purchase price of the food itself. I contested the charge with American Express (the card I used to pay for the order), and after more than a month of waiting, I found out that Goldbelly had quoted to them a line in their gigantic list of terms and conditions that said they are not responsible for the quality of the product received, so the charge on my card was reinstated. I then contacted Hancock's customer service directly to see if they might be willing to provide some restitution. They told me that so long as the food was still cool to the touch (even if thawed) it would not present a health risk, and further that "the quality should be fine" if re-frozen. I let them know about all the online guidance I had seen about not re-freezing seafood, but they insisted that (somehow, they didn't explain how) their product was special in that it would not be affected. I originally ordered from Hancock because, I reasoned, the quality of lobster products I could get by ordering directly from Maine would likely be higher than what I can get in my local grocery stores. For me, it was the presumed higher quality that justified the much higher price. In that context, anything that harmed the quality of my order made the whole expense a waste of money. In terms of the safety of the food, all I can say is that I spent the entire evening after I finally tried one of the twice-thawed dishes in the bathroom. I cannot prove a cause-and-effect connection, but the timing was very suspicious. It was bad enough that I threw out the rest of the order. I'm writing this review so that potential customers of Hancock understand that the company will not provide you with any recourse if, through no fault of your own, the food arrives thawed. Their items are expensive, and there is no guarantee you will receive the quality you're paying for or that you will be made whole if not. I gave this company ample opportunity to make the situation right, even telling them I would be compelled to write this review if they would not, but they refused. It may be that their food is great when it arrives on-schedule still frozen, but be aware that you'll be stuck with the charges even if it doesn't. It's too big a risk to justify the expense, in my opinion. read more

Ordered on Dec 23 for Dec 30 delivery - figured that was plenty of time to fill the order. On Dec 30 I was notified the lobster rolls had shipped that day at 4pm - they day I was supposed to received them. On Dec 31 I was notified I would received the lobster rolls on Jan 2 after 3pm. I paid $50 for shipping. The company had 6 days notice to fill the order. The lobster is expensive but very good. Just don't plan on serving it on time for your event. read more

these are some darn good lobster products indeed. my problem is i can't afford to try them that often. i have had many of the entrees several times and was floored by how great they were. when i went into a gourmet grocery store and saw them in the freezer section i was so sad when i saw the prices. sure lobster is pricey but i'm not going to pay almost $40 for a single serving of lobster mac and cheese. this is not your grandmother's mac & cheese! this is a remarkable dish with astounding richness and flavor. pasta in a creamy mascarpone-cheddar sauce with sweet chunks of lobster. all this topped with a crunchy mix of panko bread crumbs, herbed butter, lemon zest and parmesan cheese. i'm a really big fan of the mac & cheese but i hate the price. they have so much to offer like lobster stew, bisque, pot pies and even lobster rolls. if you really love lobster and can somehow afford to eat like a king i say go for it! if your like me and many i know you wont be getting of this great stuff any time soon. read more

I ordered the MAINES LOBSTERMAN CATCH (for 4) for my son and his family because they are seafood fanatics For Christmas. I also ordered my husband and I the gluten-free mac & cheese. When I called to order I happen to call on a perfect day because they were offering free shipping and we live in Florida. I spoke to Bria and she was awesome, very knowledgeable, very accommodating, very sweet and was patient with my order because I was unsure what I wanted because everything looked so good. Not only did my order arrive earlier than anticipated but when my husband and I went to visit my son and his family they saved the meal for us to enjoy with them. There was so much food and it fed all 6 of us without a problem. It was so good that my grandsons were fighting over the last lobster. . I said don't worry, Nana will order more! Finding Lobster in South Dakota is not easy. We typically use Amazon, but for Lobster we go to Hancock. We have been buying from Hancock for years on holidays and special occasions. We frequently give as gifts, and we have ordered up to 12 lobsters and only once received a lethargic one which Hancock quickly replaced. We're from Maine and fairly picky about good seafood and Hancock is outstanding. I have seen questionable reviews about the customer service and I am very surprised. Pro: Nothing better than Maine lobsters, and Hancock is generous with the meat in the pies, bisque, etc. Con: This is REALLY rich food. We got the pac with lobster pie, smoked scallop/lobster bisque, lobster stew, lobster mac'n'cheese. Everything, and I mean everything was super-high butterfat heavy cream. We like cream - well, we love cream! - but everything at once was an overdose. We had to space it out over three meals, and even then I diluted the stew and bisque with some shrimp stock. I have used this companies service on many occasions and have been happy in the past. This time I am not so excited. Their customer service is in my opinion lacking. I ordered lobster sent as a gift to someone I had sent lobster on three other occasions successfully. This time I ordered with my smart phone. Their order forms need some work because it confirmed that my party had received lobster before, but no address appeared. I made the unhappy assumption that the address that had been used the last two times would be the same. I realize I have culpability in the matter as well, but the company was unwilling to work with me in any way to help remedy the situation. Horrible experience. I ordered a meal to be delivered on the 23rd for Christmas Eve lunch the next day. It never arrived for the lunch, so we were stuck scrambling to put something together at the last minute. I called Hancock and they were less than helpful. They gave me the 800 number for FedEx where I was told by an automated message that I couldn't speak to a customer representative. If you are planning on serving Hancock for a dinner/lunch party, I'd think twice as they are just not reliable. With the family gathering in Palm Springs, CA...what do you feed them the night before Thanksgiving? Well, we planned ahead and had 8 Pemaquid Point lobster pies flown-in. What a delightful treat! This year I called to order before Christmas and the service rep strongly advised me to get the delivery after Christmas. They were to arrive today, Friday the 28th. They did not arrive. I just called the company. It took many calls to get a rep on the line. The rep nonchalantly said due to a storm I would not receive the order until the 3rd. I can not believe after being a good customer for years they did not have the courtesy to call me to let me know or offer to ship them to arrive on the 31st. I had a very large order. Why one? Because you can't rate zero! Product was shipped with insufficient cooling. They use dry ice, which you are not really allowed to use. Soup was completely thawed, flatbreads were completely thawed. Received the product at 5 PM PDT on Friday, and disposed of the product (thawed out seafood, yuk), called Monday morning, and all they said was that I should not have disposed of the product. And said I should not have disposed, and they would not do anything. My mistake, should never have ordered mail order seafood products in the summer. BTW, have ordered many other things from other vendors, and this has only happened once before, and they reshipped the product, this time with plenty of the gel packs. read more

To be fair, I am not a huge fan of lobster... if you are, you will love these products as they are chock full of large chunks of it. I placed an order a while ago for our anniversary dinner tonight because I had a coupon and I knew that they had won lots of awards. Plus, since we have a toddler we can't go out to celebrate anymore so this was a way to have a nice dinner at home. We tried the Nubble LIght Lobster Wellington and the peach cobbler. I can appreciate that they don't cut corners here and everything seems to be homemade with love and care. The peaches were not canned and hand cut with a topping that included coconut and walnuts. But, the stuff is not cheap so I guess you get what you pay for. Personally, I found the food to be WAY too rich and salty. If another coupon rolls around, I might order a crab dish and another dessert for New Years... otherwise I think $100 was too much to spend for something I wasn't that crazy about. read more

We bought 2 lobster roll meals. It was shipped on time and had generous portions. The packaging is goid and the rolls and whoopie pies are nice..However, we are lobster eaters, and go to Cape Cod every summer, and we must say this lobster tasted like over salted,, briny lobster shells. Not worth the price tag, and would not recommend them at all. Some of the lobster was less briny, but overall a big waste of our money.
