What else can I say about this amazing team! I needed extensive dental work and spent a lot of 2023 in this office. They were caring and patient; their follow up was impeccable. Dr. Cai and his team fixed my smile and changed my life. I now have a beautiful smile for the first time in my life and I couldn't be more grateful. Due to my experience with this dental office and Dr. Cai, I cannot recommend him. Like some of the other prior patients who have written reviews, there was pressure to agree to treatments which were unnecessary and not covered under my insurance. While my insurance covered periodic cleanings and deep cleanings, there was a reluctance on the part of Dr. Cai to perform these treatments or to set appointments for them. I can understand if a dental provider feels a certain type of insurance is not worthwhile, but then why accept patients with that type of insurance and try to 'upsell' them into unnecessary out-of-pocket treatments. Dr Kai performed deep cleaning for $602 on May 7, 2021. My insurance Delta allowed amount $55 per quadrant. I should have been charged $220 for the 4 quadrant. I was way over charged. I have to share my experience as I got a second opinion and Dr Cai was not only very expensive but tried to get my approval for work not needed. First Ii was told cleaning and X-rays were 200.00. When I sat down and asked again was told 280.00. Ok I'm paying cash, no insurance so I'm here let's go. Next I was told by hygienist I needed deep cleaning for 500.00 and my tooth is infected. I told her just do regular cleaning I am not feeling comfortable with this. she begrudgingly does regular cleaning and X-rays. Then Dr Cai tells me at exam I need a crown so make an appointment. at this point I didn't trust anyone in the office so I paid my 280.00 and left. Went to second dentist for another opinion. Asked Dr Kim do I need deep cleaning. he says no. He takes X-rays and cleaning for 200.00 which is reasonable. Do I need a crown? He says no not at all. Nothing wrong with my teeth. Do I have to tell all my fellow helpers to stay away from Dr Cai? You betcha. Stay far away! read more

This was my second cleaning appoint today at Blackhawk Plaza Dental. The first visit was fine. My second appointment today was a disaster. I checked in on time with the receptionist who told me to take a seat, and that it would be a few minutes. I then waited for about 25 minutes. After about 25 minutes, I asked how much longer it would be for my cleaning. I was finally told that my hygienist had to leave unexpectedly that day, and that the dentist was now doing the cleanings and would take me after he was done with another patient. I am reasonable and understand that things come up, but I don't understand why I wasn't called and given the opportunity to move my appointment out/change the time. I waited 40 minutes to finally be seen. I expressed my concern to the dentist about the less than stellar logistics, and he seemed nonplussed. He then proceeded to clean my teeth in a rush (as there were other patients backed up) and was done in about 15 minutes. The hasty cleaning concluded with no consult from the dentist about the state of my teeth/oral health. I had to quickly ask the assistant about a follow up question, which she said she would ask the dentist and get back to me. When checking out, the receptionist said that the hygienist had a family emergency during lunch and had to leave. Again, I totally understand that things happen, but my appointment was at 3:00. Also, why wasn't I informed at check in instead of figuring it out myself after waiting way too long? Needless to say, I will not be going back. read more

These people are scam artist. Go in for a routine cleaning. Claimed I need a deep cleaning. Estimated $400. That is ok. But ended up paying $511 on the spot. And then a week later I found out that they are also charging $1374 to my dental insurance. A total of $1774 for a cleaning. It is good that my dental insurance notified me that some dentist is trying to charge everything I have left in my dental reserve. On top of that I was told about several cavities that a second dentist disputed and that the $1774 cleaning was a poor job. Been awhile since I went here, but my experience involved 2 different appointments being rescheduled with only 2 days notice, twice consecutively for one of them, for 3 incidents total. She sounds like the manager after speaking with her. Got to my appt. mind you I haven't been to a dentist for years because I was scared, have broken jaw and do NOT like people in my mouth, however... when I walked in my whole body got relaxed because of the ambiance, it looked welcoming, the staff was AWSOME. I actually see Dr. Cai in Danville, CA at Blackhawk Dental and I must say, he and his staff are absolutely amazing. Very easy going and professional atmosphere with just the right amount of humor. (I mean, how funny can talking about your teeth really be?) From my initial appointment (cleaning/x-rays/whitening) through my replacement crown and filling, I was treated with respect and experienced superior customer service. The office is very clean and tidy and the staff is friendly and there to help. My insurance options were clearly explained before any procedures were completed so I could make an educated decision and form my "treatment plan" WITH Dr. Cai. (I've always been told what to do. I've never had the opportunity to create my plan/help decide the next course of action.) Overall, every experience I've had with Dr. Cai and crew has been great. I strongly recommend Blackhawk Dental to anyone who wants to enjoy going to the dentist! (I'm a needle-phobe too. Dr. Cai is skilled in this area. I didn't even feel it!) Love this dentist! My kids and I have been coming here for a few years. Everyone is incredibly nice and caring. They never push you to do cosmetic dentistry. They always inform you of what you could do, so you know your options but NEVER push you to do anything you're not comfortable with. And they do a amazing job with my kids. Quite simply the best dental experience I've ever had! I was referred to Dr. Chi by several friends. I was really impressed with him and his entire staff! Dr. Chi was very kind and gentle. I didn't even feel the shot! My last dentist said that I would need a root canal on a tooth. But Dr. Chi was able to save it without the need for a root canal! I now wonder if some of the dental work at my last dentist was even necessary! I don't have very good dental insurance. But the office manager "Ann" was able to let me know what the insurance would cover, and what I would need to pay PRIOR to any treatment. (Unlike my last dentist.) I rarely give anyone 5 stars! This place is very dishonest. They made me pay cash on two occasions telling me that their credit card machine was down. It turns out later my insurance actually pays for 80% of the cost instead of just 60%. It's been months and they still haven't credited me back for the difference that amounted to about $200. The secretary has been telling me she'll get the check out to me, but she hasn't still. They've ignored my last few phone call over the course of the last couple of weeks. On top of being dishonest, i think the dentist messed up on my tooth. On my last visit, the dentist said that I needed a crown on one of my molars. It turns out it's the same molar that they had replaced my fillings the previous year. I'm pretty upset wondering if the molar got messed up because of the work they had done or just wondering why they didn't give me a crown in the first place instead of double charging for the fillings and now for the crown. Dr. Cai is an amazing dentist! The office is state of the art. And the staff is professional and friendly and courteous! Ann, at the front desk made everything easy to understand took care of all my insurance needs and questions. I must admit that I was a bit skeptical about Dr. Usinger leaving this practice. But when it was time to visit again, I was very pleasantly surprised that the office is still the same and that Jennifer decided to stay. She is a gem and made me feel right at home with her professional and friendly manner. I felt right at home. I have had several treatments from the new Dentist, Dr. Debra Staudhammer, who took over the practice in 2009. She is very competent and all of my procedures that have ranged from cleanings to whitenings (my teeth are dazzling) to crowns were pain free and I am very happy with the results. Jennifer and Dr. Staudhammer have a wonderful chair-side manner and work well together. I have been to see Dr. Staudhammer on two different occasions. I usually hate going to the dentist but I found that she and her assistant are very welcoming and made me feel extremely comfortable. I highly recommend the new "sensational smiles" treatment that they provide for teeth whitening. There is no discomfort and I was extremely pleased with the results! Warning: The dentist here will try to jack you up for Gum Disease and will recommend you use Arestin (Not Covered by your insurance) Luckily I was smart, I had been scammed at another Dental office before in a different location in the past and ended up paying $2000.00 out of my pocket. I have another dentist saying that alot of Dental Offices are cash strap. They will push this antibiotics onto their customers to get more revenue. I was told by another dentist that I DO NOT NEED Arestin. This place will try to get much money out of you as possible out of your insurance plus more. The dentist told me I needed a deep cleaning, funny thing is, I had a deep cleaning done earlier 1 year ago. I requested for a normal dental cleaning. The dentist did an absolute horrible job, it was so quick and fast, shipped me out the door ASAP. The dental tools they use to clean was just a single metal pick?
