This is that it's very hit or miss. I've had some teachers that were super caring, understanding, compassionate and willing to answer any questions I may have had concerning the material. Unfortunately other teachers i've had were unreasonable not very patient and hard to talk to. I would also like to mention one of my old English teachers Mr.reguiro he was awesome and made his class very engaging. As far as the people in this school usually as long as you are doing your own thing and minding your business no one will bother you i've made some great relationships during my 4 years. The food:Personally the cafeteria food wasn't too good but I mean what do you really expect it's a public school... Staff and advisors: it was a little hard to reach my counselors at times but when I finally did get the chance to sit down and talk to them they were very attentive to my needs and listened to my concerns/gave suggestions.

Try outs were late in the summer. Causing payments for cheer to be due almost immediately. To this day cheerleaders have not received all outfits paid for. On top of that the nepotism is ridiculous. Coach Montiel has a daughter on the team as well as Coach Cecelia. The entitlement coach Cece daughter has is disgusting. Cheerleaders are punished for their mistakes but their DAUGHTERS will be excused for the same actions. The same mean girl attitude the daughters have is the same attitude the coaches give out. She is a 5th-grade student, Co-Captain of the GEMS cheer team, and was preparing to join the dance program. Over several months, our child experienced multiple safety and medical incidents on campus. These included being denied timely restroom access, an injury on the playground without staff intervention or parent notification, and a hand injury during PE where medical assistance was not provided when requested. Due to the school's no-phone policy, we were not informed of these incidents until after school. When we raised concerns, administration acknowledged staffing and supervision challenges and stated an investigation would occur. As of now, we have not received follow-up or resolution. Student safety, communication, and supervision are essential. Based on our experience, these areas require significant improvement.

I'm an ACHIEVER in Cheer and honors leadership and have fun doing both. If you are thinking of putting your child in this school you honestly should. The teachers here also care a lot about your education. If you are missing any work, they have office hours for you to stay after school and make up missing work. They teach us discipline and manners for our future life's. If we make a mistake, they give us reflections to fill out so we can reflect on our actions and learn a lesson for next time. Unlike some schools, we are taught respect for others. Here at Garvey ALLEN is honestly a great learning experience for everyone whether it's academically or manner wise. The enrollment process is very fast and the principal, Dr. Karwan creates a rapport with all the students that attend. I will say this campus gave me all the educational tools necessary to learn: free laptop (to take home and complete online studies), and a PUMA backpack with school emblem sewn on it.The teachers and counselors worked with me to create a schedule that allowed me to attend my college courses and care for my sibling at home. I will say you do have to put your foot down and remind counselors and teachers of your set contract and agreement of your graduation date, mine was pushed back for 2-3 months and that affected my college education. I learned subjects at my own pace and it furthered my understanding of what it meant to be college-ready and become an adult. In many ways the literature assigned to me broadened my views on society, the justice system, and financial management. While attending here I was being rewarded with awards during my short time here.After the school year ended students were allowed to purchase the out-dated laptops from the campus and I still use that laptop today! I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here as well as my education. Teachers try to create this bubble for seniors and juniors that have skipped grades since attending there to really focus on studying, getting higher grades and test scores. This school does not tolerate tardiness. They will contact your family on the 2nd day of tardiness and may go as far as taking administrative actions against students enrollment. I attended this school to have flexible hours to support my family while attending college. I graduated with 11 other seniors and received praise and encouragement while attending as a concurrent enrollment student. Keep in mind that the students studying here that transferred from a regular public school, may loose some of the things that come with that public school experience such as: playgrounds (limited age play), school dances, school sport games, (limited variety of...)any clubs/extracurricular activities, Prom with former school, senior night with former school, regular Senior yearbook photos. This school is truly one of a kind. There is a nursing school on campus, a program for young adults with Disabilities and Special Needs and a regular K-12 grade level system that you can move up the grade scale by taking college credit courses and graduate early. Plenty of other students I met as a senior here took care of their families, started careers/jobs, and ran small businesses. I will note that, some teachers have +20 years of teaching experience. I would love the opportunity to send my children to a school like this someday. Thank You Val Verde Academy
