This review is just for the day tubing. My husband and I spent the 4 days prior doing long hikes and needed a rest day. We did the 3.5 hours float and loved it. It was very relaxing and the trip has great views the whole way. The water was crisp and cold. We had to slather with sunscreen as they say the only danger in the river is the sun. I feel as if this is a perfect half day choice for families with children. Also, the staff is amazing and helpful, and the prices in the gift shop are incredible. read more

The company boat and its captain, Mike, took me along with four companions, about 80 miles downriver to Spanish Bottom to begin a fantastic backpacking trip into The Maze area of Canyonlands National Park. After our hiking was done, Mike and his boat were there, right on schedule, to pick us up and take us back upriver to Moab. The boat trip itself was a major highlight of our whole adventure. Canyonlands by Night is amazing! We participated in a guided UTV tour and were pleasantly surprised at how kind and accommodating the staff was from booking to finish. Our trip was last minute and we had a large group. We utilized the catering services and I give the food and service 10/10! Reviewing the Sound and Light Show with Dinner. Let's start with dinner - slow cooked meats slathered in bbq sauce does not equate to tasty bbq fare. Iceberg lettuce and canned corn doesn't give you any other appetizing options during dinner. Think of all-you-can-eat school lunch for dinner. The boat ride down the Colorado River - started out nicely when we set out at dusk. Our guide Harleigh was engaging and informational. Once the sun set however the "light show" began. Did not expect a truck with a spotlight shining a light on the cliffs towering over the Colorado to be the "light show". No laser show, no animation, no finger puppets, just a oversized flashlight shining a light on the cliff side. It was quite disappointing. Not to mention the recorded narration with strong religious overtones intermixed with stories about Native Americans killing a white man and a white child apparently for no reason . It was quite cringy. Save your hard earned money read more

This was a great tour. Anyone who talks about how "Mormon" it is hasn't been recently, because literally all they did was tell the history of Utah. The food was fine but the boat ride was fun and unique!!! Unlike anything I've been apart of! It was worth the money, although SLIGHTLY expensive. The guide was knowledgeable and fun and the story was interesting. The only recommendations I would make would be to make sure you bring a jacket if you get cold easily and remember that you're in Utah and this tour is likely slightly Mormon slanted. Their website does mention how this tour will talk about God and the Mormons and suggests alternatives. All in all, this was enjoyable and unique, would book with them again!! read more

Great Boat Captain, he knew the river so well thanks to being an OG from Moab! Our suggestion is is to go to the top of dead hourse the evening before you go on the boat ride and look at the sunset that way you have the ultimate experience and see both perspectives from top to bottom! Take the morning boat ‍ It's much cooler. Down side... Be prepared it's a three hour boat ride with one bathroom stop on the way up and on the way back! You'll probably puke before you even have a chance to use the bathroom from the smell of the outhouse that's provided in the middle of nowhere!!! read more

We did the dinner and boat tour by night. We are still in the COVID pandemic and there was no attempt to socially distance groups of people and the buffet salad bar had everyone touching the same serving spoons. There were hand sanitizers available and luckily my group was fully vaccinated, but it's very unlikely that everyone was vaccinated so beware! The food was very average. Canned corn, boring salad bar, and several types of BBQ meats. The food was in a dining hall, not on the boat, so I'd recommend skipping the meal and finding a better meal elsewhere. When I booked it, I really thought we were eating on a boat so this wasn't made clear. The boat was great, very smooth and Captain Ron was a good driver. However, the tour guide Preston apparently has problems with the "government", making many snide comments about having to sign your names on a ship psssenger list, the need for a personal flotation device on board etc. which I found totally unnecessary. I'm absolutely on board (no pun intended) with having safety measures in place! The first half of the boat tour was Preston pointing out geological features of the canyon, explaining how arches are formed, and showing us wildlife on the banks. He used a laser pointer to show "images" within the rock walls and explained how different areas got their names. This was pretty interesting. Then when it was dark, a truck with a very powerful light drove alongside the river, strategically shining a spotlight on various portions of the canyon in sync with a prerecorded narrative and music show. Here's where things really went downhill. They incorporated the history of Brigham Young's settlement of Utah including ridiculous stories such a young boy getting shot twice by local Indians and his mother praying and miraculously he survived. There was no attempt to be culturally sensitive and share the Native American's side of the story and I found their version quite offensive. I felt like we were being force fed the LDS alternative history and all I wanted was a peaceful boat tour. The music and narration was extremely loud and I couldn't help but think the campers and kayakers must be annoyed by the interruption of their peaceful evening. Overall, I'm glad I went on the tour as it's the only way I had to be on the river. However I'd recommend skipping the dinner and be willing to stomach anti-government and culturally insensitive comment about the Native American history. read more

An outstanding tour company. Our family (children ages 8 and 10 plus 2 grandparents) booked the morning river rafting tour. It was fantastic. Our guide, Grant, was personable and skilled. We loved every minute, from the rapids that delighted the kids, animals sightings, and swimming in the Colorado. An absolute must for families. We completed our evening with the sights and sounds dinner tour. Dinner was delicious. The evening boat tour down the river is a once in a lifetime opportunity. What a spectacular sight!! We were playing in the Colorado River when the jet boat went by, it looked fun, so we called and booked a ride that afternoon! Captain Rory was a great guide and my boys had so much fun getting splashed in the back. It was a great way to see some sights of Moab and stay cool while doing it. read more

Sunset jet boat tour plus dinner for $89 plus tip/pp. The run on the Colorado River was just okay. Boat sucked up a stick and it took a good 15 min to clear it. A couple things to look at but no biggie. Turned around and went back to dock about 1.5 hrs. Very nice pilot mike. We bought the whole package, not knowing what to expect, including dinner before the cruise up the Colorado River. Yummy buffet, all you can eat and very well organized and paced nicely. The boat ride was awesome with Tammy doing the chatting about the history of the area, business, etc. She was funny and kept our interest while we floated along. She pointed out many "faces" on the canyon walls which were spot on and we could see the faces in the sandstone walls also. Oh, we were blessed with a full moon also, beyond amazing and beautiful! Then at dark they had a truck with powerful lights driving along the road near the river shining these lights into the canyon walls, with a recording of the history of this area from millions of years ago, to today. It was choreographed perfectly and I was fascinated. This business has been going for generations and you could tell the pride in all the employees. This exceeded all my expectations! We took the Hell's Revenge Trail UTV tour with Ian and it was awesome. We got to drive our own UTV, being led by a guide. It was crazy. I was content to hold on, but the other 3 in my car got to drive and loved it. Breathtaking views and a great experience. Ian is the best. read more

We had one night and day and Moab and this was the perfect way to explore canyonlands through their 4 x 4 tours. Our tour guide was amazing, Mark. He was extremely knowledgeable and we learned more than we anticipated going into the tour. Very personable and willing to take pictures. If you have the opportunity to choose, I would definitely pick him. Another couple was with us and they learned far more than they learned on their previous book tour the night before. They are accommodating for all ages, provide cold water, and snacks. read more

I am a very positive and optimistic person typically, but unfortunately I cannot apply that to this experience. After spending a ridiculous amount of money, my expectations were HIGH. I was expecting dinner on a cruise ship as seen in the parent trap (watch movie if you haven't.) alas, the unimpressive cafeteria style dinner took place on LAND. They should call it dinner COMMA cruise. After an underwhelming dinner, my friends and I decided to buy alcoholic drinks from the bar, and thank goodness we did. It was the saving grace of this tour. We were able to see the humor in this trying time. We were then escorted onto the "boat." We were placed directly behind the toilet, which provided repulsive aromas throughout the tour. Dee was our tour guide for the boat ride, and he proceeded to point out the funny shaped rocks that looked like various animals and characters. It was slightly enjoyable! Then, the "light show" started! ALAS, it was an outdated audio book with some disturbing imagery, such as children getting shot. The lights consisted of two dudes on a truck shining a flood light against the rocks...cool light show? The tour lasted for a total of MANY hours. As others mentioned, I contemplated jumping off the boat and swimming to shore. The main issue about this tour is that they charged much more money than any of this was worth...they should be charging a quarter of the price for such an experience... read more

Went on the sunset cruise last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was expecting mosquitoes (there were none) and was told by someone in town to take a sweater for after dark (it was warm all evening). Also was expecting a crowded boat and there was lots of room for us to spread out which made for a great experience. Our guide was funny, friendly, and very well versed on every element of Moab and the river! He gave us a fun ride with just enough fast, slow, and stops and did not disappoint! read more

First, the food was absolutely delicious. My sister told the cook the food tasted like our grandma's on her trip up for seconds. He said he was glad because his grandma taught him to cook. The staff went around during dinner and talked to everybody. They were all so nice. They even have veggie riblets for the vegetarians! The boat tour was so much fun. Our tour guide was an old cowboy and made the funniest, adorable old man jokes. It was beautiful to be out on the water while the sun set and after dark with the stars above us. We took the Sunset cruise without dinner and really enjoyed it. It was a great way to beat the heat. 18 miles up (or is it down) the Colorado River and back. You get to see wildlife, petroglyphs, rock climbers, arches and most importantly the best views of the rocks at sunset. The driver was hilarious and very knowledgeable. Took the dinner and cruise package. I think it was pricey for what it was. Dinner: guests are seated at long tables at one end of a large room and seats in the dining room are assigned. So much space, why not let people sit at tables of their own choosing? The food is surprisingly good, served to you buffet style, but nothing is spectacular and only one choice of dessert - apple pie with a dollop of whipped cream - but ice cream is for sale outside. If you don't like pie or apples, too bad so sad for you. No background music with dinner, which ends well before the cruise starts so you are stuck there with nothing to do but head to the gift $hop. Cruise: Comfortable, assigned seating. No need to pay an extra $10 to sit in the front row. On the way up the folksy narrator uses a laser to point out interesting shapes in the rocks of the canyons and provides interesting information with simple jokes. On the way down, music and narrative blare from speakers as a vehicle on the land shines a spotlight on the rocks - BOOR -RING! Locals along the river occasionally express their frustrations with the disruption caused by this "sound and light show" and unfamiliar drivers stopped to see what was going on. Very disappointing. Once docked, we were reminded of where to leave a tip and that the gift $hop was still open. Fool me once..... read more

Entered the boat a non practicing catholic and left a converted Mormon. Beware and don't drink the koolaid. I don't mind the mention of God and the creation story, a Christian spin on a history lesson is usually not offensive to me. This however, was a heavily biased Mormon story told to what basically was a flood light along the canyon walls. I thought they were going to stop the boat mid cruise and baptize us all right there in the Colorado river. Anyone with knowledge of the true history of native Americans will be offended by the narrative. As far as the dinner before hand, call it a picnic. The food was mediocre at best, not worth a fraction of the $65 price tag. The concept of lighting up the canyon walls was pretty, but PLEASE change the narrative. I would have enjoyed myself much more if the very friendly informative host, Dee, continued with interesting Moab & Desert information, or we listened to music as the walls of the canyon were lit. read more

We had a family of 15, and they did everything they could to accommodate us for the two-hour hummer ride. It was the thrill of a lifetime. We had 9 kids ages 4-14, and from the youngest to the oldest, and each one had the time of their life. The tour guides, Ian and JP were incredible! Highly recommend them. read more

My friends and I booked the sound and light show during our most recent stay in Moab. We have taken other river tours with this group during previous trips to the area, and thoroughly enjoyed the downstream daytime tour. This tour, however, left me feeling torn. The dinner was great. Delicious food... and lots of it. All-you-can-eat garden salad, pasta salad, coleslaw, rolls, and a variety of barbecued meats left us satisfied and excited to get out on the river. Once we were on the boat, however, we realized we had booked a much more low-key tour than we had expected. The boat began its slow journey upstream about an hour before sunset. Our guide (an older gentleman... I can't remember his name) told stories and explained some of the history of the area as we floated SLOWLY upstream. I enjoyed listening to him, however it felt as though he was trying to kill time before we got to the point of the river where the show began. The dinner and tour could have easily started 30 - 45 minutes later than it did and still allowed ample time for a quicker ride up the river. Once the light show portion of the tour began, I was immediately disappointed with the pre-recorded narration. Being a Utah native, I've grown tired of hearing the Mormon narrative everywhere I go. I realize that it is part of the state's history, though, and was probably more interesting to others... so it didn't bother me. However, the narration and "acting" was dated and overly cheesy. The lights on the canyon wall were breathtaking, however, and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the canyon lit up. I would have enjoyed the show much more had it just included music and lights, rather than a narration. Like I mentioned, I'm torn. The dinner was delicious and the tour guide was great. For the price, this is quite a bargain! The tour/show itself, however, was cheesy, religious, and longer than I felt it needed to be (two and a half hours is a long time to sit in a slow-moving boat... especially during mosquito season). Consider this tour if you're looking for a VERY slow-paced evening with a strong religious theme and cheesy narration. If the timing were adjusted and the show accompanied only by music, this would be a perfect way to relax and unwind on the river. Otherwise, consider another Canyonlands by Night tour... they have other appealing options. read more

We enjoyed inner tube ride on the Colorado River. This was so awesome! Very relaxing and super calm waters. Very fun! My only recommendation is to add some ropes at the dock to exit the tube. There is nothing to grab onto and pull yourself up except the low ladder. But I had my hubby to pull me out so we made it. Just thought if I was there with the girls it would be tough! But the rafting was so fun and relaxing and beautiful sights!!!! read more

The River water was low so we didn't get to ride up river as far as we would of liked but Canyonlands did an excellent job of keeping us entertained. Very friendly and had a fun river experience. The only thing that I was thrown off by was when they used a map referencing "Negro Bill Canyon" as the starting point for our tubing adventure. It's my understanding that the canyon has since been renamed as Grandstaff Canyon precisely because of the racist origins of the original name, which was worse than "negro" by the way. I would hope that they update their maps accordingly to welcome all of their customers. read more
