As I got on the tour boat with my $79 ticket, I had high hopes. Our guide was friendly and funny, and the folks on the phone had been really nice. I was a little concerned about the backhoe dumping boulders in the parking lot on the way in, but hey, I figured, you've gotta get the work done sometime. Just because I'm on vacation doesn't mean they are. But still, it seemed that a few more safety precautions could have been taken to protect visitors. We waited for our boat along with the rest of the crowd. It was a little frustrating when a large family arrived late and cut in front of all of us who had been waiting since the 5:45 arrival time. They also took the very best seats, then proceeded to commandeer more inside seats when we encountered a minor rain shower. Not a huge deal, but more organization would have been helpful. The ride itself was very nice, but way too short and understaffed for the price. The guide/captain had to spend way too much time stopping the boat, walking to the front and pointing out landmarks. He also served sodas and picked up trash. For a $79 ticket, the boat should have had at least two people, one to drive and one to talk. Though the guide/driver was very nice and funny, the value we received on the tour was not equivalent to the price. We didn't learn enough and didn't get very far down the river. And the boat itself was not that clean, food wrappers in the cup holders - not what I expected for my $79. Then we returned to the "Canyonlands Resort" for dinner. The "delicious BBQ dinner" advertised was actually a giant tour bus buffet. As we elbowed our way past the throngs of people - at least 150-200 - I wondered even more why I thought a "sunset cruise" would be a good idea. After all, we didn't even watch the sunset. Green salad, rolls, corn, beans, potatoes and random BBQ meats. The staff were all very friendly and hospitable, just not the experience I was expecting. Added to this, the person on the phone had told me that "vegetarians love the food." I am the kind of vegetarian who can find something anywhere, but for $79 there should have been a vegetarian option that was more than beans. And alcoholic beverages were not included with my ticket. Adding insult to injury, the person on the phone hadn't told me that dinner didn't have to be included. As I sat down at the Costco 8' banquet table in my plastic folding Lifetime chair (also from Costco), I couldn't help but feel I'd been had. For $79, I'd gotten a $20 boat ride and a $10.95 buffet. In short, if you like the tour bus experience, Canyonlands is for you. They're super nice and friendly, even though you may die in the parking lot due to the lack of signage. But don't expect a $79 experience because it just isn't going to happen. read more

THIS COMPANY IS PACKING PEOPLE ON THE RIVER TO MAXIMIZE PROFITS! We were looking for a magical quiet tour on the river and wanted to avoid a crowd. When we booked our tour we let them know and we chose the smaller boat to avoid crowds and were told there would be a maximum of 16 people on the boat. They did not honor this and changed it to 25 people, I'm sure this was to maximize their profits. Whats worse is the managers tone was quite rude. She argued with me and she said, management reserves the right increase the size of the tour at any time. Don't book with this company. They have a lot to learn about hospitality and honoring the spirit of the great outdoors! read more

We did the dinner and night light show. Dinner was delicious although I thought it would be on the boat. They provided blankets for the night light show which was good because it got pretty cold. They shined lights on the mountain walls and had an audio narrated story about the history of Moab and the natives, which I thought was informative. The staff was very friendly. read more

Super nice nice staff and boat guide. The buffet dinner before the boat ride was just OK. The light effects on shore against the steep cliffs as the boat made its way a short distance up river were simple but created unique and surreal moving shadows against the cliffs (very cool). The real problem for me was the 1 hour prerecorded program of music and narration on the boat that was synchronous with the lights... It was a thinly veiled LDS (Latter-day Saints) church sermon. Additionally, the story line was offensive to Native Americans (the savages) as well. If creationist theory is your thing and you feel like a dose of it in combination with a unique hour and a half boat ride at night... go for it. We thought we were going to experience an informative and rational explanation of the beautiful canyons surrounding us but instead were treated to a fire and brimstone story line. read more

My husband and I did the night tour - we loved it! The weather was perfect and our tour guide was great. Gazing at the stars from the CO river was awesome! I would only say that the soundtrack they play has got to be updated. We couldn't help but laugh at some of the songs that came on. Also, we felt terrible because we never carry cash on us, and we were encouraged to tip at the end. If they could have mentioned that in their confirmation e-mail or website, that would have been helpful. Next time we are out that way I think we will try a day tour! read more

Fun, fun, fun!! It's a spectacular scene- flying down the Colorado River with prehistoric rocks jutting up on all sides! You will see stuff you can't see on land- beavers, crazy rock climbers, arches, mile long vistas and an animated and hilarious tour guide! You will learn more in an hour and a half than you will all week. The dinner is great- a lot of choices- cash bar and all the soda you want. We have been to a few Moab restaurants- lousy food, lousy service. The dinner is buffet, but attentive service and PLENTY to eat. Check it out, you will not be disappointed. read more

The food was OK, the staff friendly, but the light show and recorded spiel was out of the '50s (very hoaky) and way too much of a Christian/Mormon viewpoint which has no business in this type of paid event unless it is advertised as such (and it was not). You end up captive on a boat hearing how the Ute Indians massacred 2 Mormon boys. This was supposed to be about the canyons, not the history of Mormon invasion in Utah. Do not recommend this trip at all !!! read more

Certain parts of this event are fun and entertaining, others not so much. The dinner was fine and I enjoyed talking to other guests. The employees were very nice and friendly! We had front row seats on the boat which helped the experience. As we traveled up the river, we really enjoyed Captains Dee's talk. He told interesting stories, explained the area, and answered questions. The light show and narration were not so hot. Parts were ok. Some stories and music were good. The best part was the end, listening to soothing movie scores and looking up at the stars. Suggestion: your basic concept has credit but it needs to be updated and modified to address a more diverse audience. read more

Lucked out in seeing David DaVinci's show right at the beginning. If karma's good, this guy will turn Moab into the Branson, Missouri of magic. Great show with real pathos and refreshing comedy. Ok. The boat is loud so sit in the front away from the engine. The sunset tour is a 1/2 hour too long. The guide was good.

We took the combo sunset boat ride and dinner package. The boat ride heads down river to just north of the "Potash Plant". Along the way the driver/guide stops to highlight some particular items on the shore, such as the climbing "wall" people try to kill themselves on. The boat turns completely around so both sides get to see the highlights. The trip takes an hour and a half. You may have some wildlife pointed out, as we did on the way back. Avoid the front row if you need leg room. Sit in the back if you want to talk to the guide. The dinner is served "picnic buffet style" in an air conditioned dining room. Everything but booze is included. The food is high quality, but basically lots of meats (5 of them) a few good veggies and rolls. A good salad bar is self serve. The staff is very friendly and they clear away plates quickly. It adds only $10 to the boat ticket; Its a steal in this pricey town. read more

We took the 3 hour trip in the morning it was AMAZING!!!! Andrew the guide was fun and knowledgeable I would recommend this to anyone!

To begin with, the staff were all very nice and did a good job. However, the experience was not worth the money and I was very disappointed! Religious narrative is usually not offensive to me, but it was this time and definitely not expected. What I did expect was a leisurely evening boat ride to cap off the last night in Moab and our wonderful family vacation. Instead it felt like an indoctrination into the Mormon religion. The food was cafeteria style and mediocre at best. The boat ride was a flood light from a truck following the boat on the adjacent road illuminating the canyon walls while the recorded Mormon history was blasted. Seriously, how is that even safe for traffic on that road?! I was glad I saw the show though so as to not book any of the campground sites along the river, as we'd have to put up with the story every night! Aside from the religious story, I found their version of the native Americans to also be highly offensive. Overall I think the whole event needs to be modernized, the food improved or cut out. Don't call it a dinner cruise...it's not. The recording should be changed to include only the history of the area. There is plenty of story in that alone. PLEASE cut out the religious narrative! The whole event would have been much more enjoyable without it. At the very very least it should be part of the description. read more

We have done the Sound and Light ride twice now. The dinner before hand is good. The ride up the Colorado river is great. Dee is a wonderful host. The ride back with the lights is very nice but the best part is the stars! The pre-recorded story could use some work but overall a nice ride. read more

The food was OK, not bad like you'd expect for a buffet. As others have mentioned, the staff was SUPER. Very nice people, they really made an effort to make you feel at home. The narrator on the boat was super sweet too, and made hokey jokes. We were pretty underwhelmed with the boat trip. The canyons are amazing, but I would have much rather seen them by day. Food was decent but the evening boat show is super cheesy and at times pretty offensive. Be prepared for lots of sexist jokes, a lot of religion (not just in recounting the history which would be one thing but throughout the narrative) and a pretty biased telling of history where the Indians are the only ones who ever did the murdering. The "show" is a truck with floodlights driving alongside the boat. A pretty expensive night of entertainment for what it is. read more

Our guide Preston was the nicest person I've met. I would give him an A+. Very informative and funny. Although it rained on us most of the time we were on the boat, but it was fun. The rain and thunderstorm adds the greatness of the tour. We love it so much. The dinner was fabulous and tasty. We were told that the spicy pork and coleslaw combination were good, it was the bomb! The best part is, they hand out apple swan to my grandaughter. Overall, me, my wife and our little grandchild enjoyed it so much. I would recommend this tour package to anyone. The boat ride was very relaxing but the stories and light show was a bit cheesy. It's great for the older crowd and the host was enjoyable. The dinner was good with a variety of meats and the BBQ chicken and pork was delicious. The staff is very friendly and efficient and they get everyone through with plenty of time to board the boat. First of all this was our second time taking this dinner and night time cruise. Our first time was a 5 star rating but unfortunately this time I can only give it 3 stars. The dinner was excellent, very well prepared and served. Everyone working the dinner was friendly and helpful. The cruise started off rather rocky in that the boat could not get away from the dock because from what everyone was saying we were held up on a sandbar. Finally we got underway and the travel up the river was informative and enjoyable. However after we turned and began going down river we were 3/4 of the way back and we came to a complete stop because we hit a sandbar. This is when it became chaotic--one one seemed to be in charge. We waited a short time before another boat came and he began pushing us to no avail. Nothing was said as to what we were to do. Finally Dee started herding people from the back forward hoping to alleviate the problem of being stuck. When that didn't work he began getting people off the cruise boat onto the rescue boat. I'm sure it took several trips by the 3 rescue boats to transport all 158 people back to Moab. Three points I wish to make: 1) They asked for no flash photography but they didn't ask people to not use their cell phones and the screens were so bright it was a huge distraction. 2) No one seemed to take charge when we hit the sandbar. 3) I expected to have a representative of the company back at Canyonlands to greet us and apologize for the inconvenience. read more

We loved every part of our evening. The meal was tasty, dinner service great, we enjoyed visiting with those around us, facility clean and comfortable- -it met our expectations and then some. The boat ride was enjoyable and Preston did a fine job hosting us. Yes, his jokes were on the corny side but so what. He answered all of our questions completely and definitely knew his stuff. Even though it was party cloudy we saw a vast array of stars on the way back. We enjoyed the darkness and music portion a lot. Everyone was super friendly and truly seemed to enjoy their jobs. My husband will be back with our daughter and grandchildren next month when they're in town for the Jeep Jamboree. read more

We purchased a night jet boat tour that also consisted of a Dutch oven dinner. Everyone had finished their dinner and they cancelled the tour due to a large storm. They went to refund those of us that couldn't reschedule and all of a sudden my group discovered that we were still charged almost $100 dollars for dinner (4 person group). On the website it was advertised that just a boat tour was $59 while dinner and the boat tour was $69. So we went back and asked why we were charged $25 when the website suggests that dinner is $10 more. They then went into some bull crap explanation about how the prices on the website are considered a "deal" and that when you purchase the tour with dinner they sell the dinner for $10 but when you just purchase dinner it's about $19 (which turned out to be about $25 per person with tax). WHAT?! Most of the best dinners in town at the best restaurants are less than that! If I wanted to pay $25 for dinner I'd go to a nice restaurant and get a perfectly cooked steak. Not a Dutch oven buffet with subpar salads and dessert. We slightly understand where they're coming from because they have to cover their supplies and employee paychecks, but for them to take that much when the tour was cancelled was ridiculous. Especially since a "just dinner" price was not advertised and WE BOUGHT THE DINNER IN A DEAL. We paid the "deal price" they were talking about and then they took two times that amount from each of us. Not impressed and will likely never return. read more

Not sure where to start but I'll try. I'll start with the food! Save yourself some money and get some actual good food at a decent restaurant in Moab. The food was served in a big cafeteria style room and was served out of Dutch ovens. I love Dutch ovens and use them myself, but my food is actually hot. The food was cold and not heated through, and drowned in mediocre barbecue sauce. Just not good. I was excited for the boat ride but soon found that disappointing also. We did not go far up the river and stopped often to look at "faces" on the cliffs. Our guide was fun and quite funny and the light show was actually done nicely. The message during the whole ride was another story though. I was actually offended by the message. In essence, the message was "good thing we conquered those savage Indians and made America a good Christian and law abiding land! And it's all because of Mormons! This land is great because of Mormons! Oh my God!" It was full of overly religious white racist undertones... just bad! And lots of Mormon references! I really wish they would have actually focused on Native American folklore since this is actually how I appreciate this sacred land! read more

The jet boat ride was wonderful. Our pilot, Andrew, was humorous and knowledgeable making this a fun ride. He did a great job of navigating through the many shallow parts of the river. We loved our evening with Canyonlands by Night. We didn't know what to expect but were so, so happy we had the experience. The dinner was very good and the cruise was awesome....a full moon night and a magical boat ride up the river.
