A great little bakery. As a New Jerseyan, I was craving a true Cuban coffee, and this place hit the bullseye.

I just waited 20 minutes for someone to take my order (1pm on Wednesday). The girl at the counter looked at me and walked to the back. No one ever came back. Mind you the place was empty. I tried to wave at them and nothing. I went to Pincho next door which was really good. The food here is fine and so is the layout but not great enough to wait that long. read more

Hi everyone and Happy Friday! Well I decided to check out CAO today as it is right across from The Spot (awesome barber by the way) as I was in a pastelito and coffee mood. Came to find out that this bakery is owned by the same owners as Vicky Bakery but this place has a totally different vibe. Seems a little higher quality from my perspective. Anyway, the staff were super nice and the baked goods, especially the pastelitos were amazing. Fresh, warm and delicious! Maybe it's just me but way better than some I have had in a long while. Pair it up with a latte aka "Cafe con Leche" and you have the makings of a winning combination! . Seriously it was very good and if you want to kick it up a notch have them prepare your Latte or Cortadito with evaporated milk instead of the usual stuff. Yea its more calories but hey live a little! Can't speak for the cakes and other goodies but man they all looked great and I suspect are just as good. Have not been to any other CAO locations yet but the one in Pinecrest was great. So if you find yourself having a Latin pastry craving, check them out as I don't think you will be disappointed. These guys have some of the best pastries that I've tried in the pinecrest area. I've tried a huge assortment of theirs and they are all surprisingly excellent. To name a few - guava cheese, fried meat empanada, meat pastelito, croquetta, etc. The meat pastelito is definitely their star item. Super flaky and delciious, the meat inside is great and the sweetness on the pastry is perfect. I would buy these in bulk. The guava and cheese pastry is my other favorite - also flaky and delicious. Growing up in Miami, you are used to getting cafecito and pastelito in any corner "cafeterias" located all over South Florida. I remember every time after school or after basketball practice, we would go get croquetas and café con leche (so obvious we were under age LOL). Vicky's Bakery is not just a name of a bakery, it became a trademark in Miami, the go-to place for birthday cakes and pastries that started back in the 70s, continued through the 80s and 90s and through the new century. Due to the massive USA immigration last 20 years or so and the thousands of foreigners (mostly Latinos) coming to the MIA, many new places started to open up, offering different flavors in a more creative and "hip" way to target millennials and stand out from the pioneers. This is how CAO Bakery came to its existence. CAO is the family name of the owners of Vicky's. The grandson decided to reboot some of the shops, made them more modern. Grandson was looking for the "next generation bakery" and his vision was accomplished and done correctly Revamped bakeries, name changed but most importantly they spiced up the menu and let me tell you, you will NOT be disappointed! I went to order a slice of Rum Cake. I received a slice of Carrot Cake. I asked the lady who served me the order if in the box there was a Rum Cake?! She acknowledged and said yes. When I arrived home, I open the box and there it was a carrot cake!!! Now you can imagine how upset I was. read more

My obsession with CAO Bakery house croquetas is no joke. They have a slight onion hint in them which I love! Also am a fan of their quesitos which are soooooo buttery and crispy and delicious with the granulated sugar on top. The coffee also never disappoints and the arroz con pollo balls are so yummy! I also tried their catering back in December and OMG that pork shoulder was so good. The skin was crispy and the meat was very well seasoned. As a puerto rican I love some adobo and sazon so when I had a piece I was jumping for joy. It was so good we had for lunch, dinner, breakfast and a snack the next day. Not one piece went to waste. I love Cuban bakeries! And, after a god awful meal at a Cuban restaurant, my mother and I needed to go somewhere to eat something that tasted good. We got some croquetas for immediately consumption. She also got a cafe con leche while i got a delicious Mexican Coke. We also took to take home some Cuban bread, more croquetas, pastelitos, cookies and other delicious items from this bakery. TLDR: great Cuban bakery tompick up some treats. ___ Visiting some friends in the area I wanted to bring some goodies since they just had a baby and are probably not cooking much. I got a medium box and stuffed it with a ton of stuff. They were very happy and grateful, and dove in to the box as soon as I arrived. I got the Croquetas as de casa. Thick and delicious. They flavor was so good. I got a bunch of pastelitos too. Coconut Guava Cheese Guava cheese I tried a few and they were all excellent. I spent about $25 and I'm sure those snacks will last then a few days. The staff was super friendly and prompt as well. I love this bakery!! The girls here are so nice even though I don't speak Spanish. Today I ordered a fresh squeezed orange juice, an iced coffee, a cortadito, 12 house ham croquettes, 2 spinach empanadas, 2 cheese pastelitos, 6 cheese tequenos and 1 guava and cheese pastelito (which was free with check in). Everything was delicious as always but I prefer the regular ham croquettes to the house one. I think I am used to the regular ones. The food is amazing, the service is terrible. They do not hire enough front desk staff on weekends during high demand. I usually order online, and since they changed the business name to CAO they have never had anything pre-prepared, so I usually have to wait for them to put together the order... as well, when they put the order together, it's usually in haste, and they get it wrong. When in Miami, you eat Cuban food. Or any sort of Latin American cuisine for that matter. That's just the thing to do. So of course, my Miami local expert took me to Vicky's. Unfortunately I was very limited on time, so she took me to this bakery to pick up a box of Cuban treats. Vicky's is fairly small. They've got a few tables inside and a few scattered out front, which makes up a nice little patio area. They also have a side window that you can order at if you didn't want to go inside. We had some time before my flight back home, so we went inside. Holy pastries! There were so many of them, sweet, savoury, you name it! My friend did most of the ordering - I simply stood next to her and admired all the different pastries. We took our little box of goodies outside and sat at one of the tables in the shade, since it was a fairly warm day. I can't even remember everything we ordered, but they were all SO good. My two faves? The empanadas and croquetas. To this day I'm still thinking of the croquetas. I also grabbed a glass of one of their house-made orange juices. Damn, it was pulpy. Good thing I'm into pulp. Just a heads up for those of you aren't on team pulp. Next time I'm in Miami, I definitely plan on devouring more Cuban cuisine. Vicky's Bakery within a five mile radius of me is either a dream come true or the devil in disguise, because I'm sure to gain five pounds. I remember four score and seven years ago when I had to drive to Hialeah for Vicky's Bakery. Those days are long gone! I've stopped in several times now and had the pastelitos, croquetas, bocaditos, and pan de bono. Every one of them was fresh and reminiscent of those "trek to Hialeah" days. Go to bakery for some cafe con leche, cortadito and some pasteries. I've had the ban de Bono. It's soft and delicious with coffee. The chicken croquetas are what we really go for. We don't eat pork and so finding an alternative in croquetas can be tough but the chicken ones they have are AMAZING. Crunchy on outside. Soft inside. Mmmmm I've had the cheese ones as well....they are not like cheese sticks. They have a cheese consistency similar to the meat in croquetas. Sounds weird but it's not. It's delicious as well! The flan I've tried (the single person size) was alright. Nothing special. Good...kind of strong taste and not as soft as others I've had. Over all it's a great quick place for some coffee and pastries to go. Oh !! Almost forgot the guava pastelito is sooooo good! This place went downhill after Vicky Bakery closed and became CAO. So far everything I've had from eating on-site to UberEats is subpar to absolutely horrible. Bout the only thing they haven't screwed up was the cafecito but the food from the pan con tortilla to the croquetas have been crap. Save your money, go to an actual Vicky Bakery, it Pinecrest Bakery....and if you're looking for something close by go over to Ricky Bakery down the street, those guys at least know how to cook and have plenty of seating. Typical Spanish bakery. Located in a small shopping center. Cool spot. Very clean, including bathrooms. Staff is very nice. Quiet place at night. They serve all the Spanish yummy pastelitos including empanadas, croquetas, Tequeno And so on. I've been to this location a few times and the pastelitos are always fresh tasting. They also sell sandwiches. They have a variety of different types. From healthy to fatty :) They also have so many desserts, it's so hard to choose just one. From single serving to small and large cakes. The only thing I don't like about Vicky's is the "Fresh Squeezed" Orange juice. It's not. Usually when you order fresh squeezed it's made to order. But they have a container with ice with several cups of pre-squeezed orange juice sitting there all day. Doesn't even look very good because all the pulp sinks to the bottom after sitting out for a while. But other then that, I like coming here for Croquetas and coladas from time to time. read more

Cold croquetas are never good, after asking if they had any hot... she looked at me as if I was being unreasonable. Asked for my café con leche to be dark with very little sugar, received super sweet and very light. Ordered my tostada to be very toasted, received a floppy bread that the paper was stuck to and couldn't get it off. Food is delicious. Prices are fair. I knock off 2 stars for service. These people try? I think they try hard but my goodness they're really not all there. The worst part is the guys in LV belts (obviously part of the empire) walk around pretending they don't see the problems. They have great technology and it's really not meshing well with their staff. It took me almost 20 mins to place my order.. Here's something else, came here and ordered 3 beef empanadas. I saw 2 in the case. She proceeds to put 2 in a box and never addresses there are only 2 in the box. When I ask her about it, she shrugs and tells me there aren't any more. Hello??! Seriously? Tell me so I can pick something else! There is one guy who works the mornings and he seems to have good control of his staff. He's always helpful and I always see him working with them.
